Don’t. As a loyal Necro player since GW1 and even more so in GW2, I really do fancy reading these kind of posts about people’s love for necromancy.
Especially since HoT it has become a fantastic class to play.

Sure, we’ve been a dogged class for a really long time, but if it works for you, why change? Because some meaningless individual online tells you to? No. You stand by your principles of enjoying and playing a game because YOU want to. They did not pay for your game so you have every right to play however you want to.

You can safely ignore the whole “meta” thing, it’s only an upstuck elitist guideline followed by many incompetent blind sheep with little to say.
A true gamer develops his or her own build and plays with what suits them, not others.
If you’re gifted with a sliver of altruism (not many are) you could roll support revenant and toy around with massive heals and condition cleanses (this is what I’ll be doing for raids).
If you like to get into the heat of battle and kill stuff, Condi Reaper or even Zerker Reaper will do just fine.

It’s a shame my guild’s only one nationality or I’d gladly take you in and ensure you’d have a great shot at getting raid rewards (assuming you’re not dutch).

My advice to you: care less what others have to say and enjoy the game the way you want to.

Is Necro subpar in PvE? Yes, though we’re getting a lot closer. Where does that matter? Pretty much only in specific group content. Random zerging in PvE or the big bosses Necromancer is just fine.

So that means that noone will bring me on raids…. because necro it’s subpar :/…

I wish there was an advice when I create that class: “Play it only if you want to be subpar to the rest”.

What is Toxic Chill? I’ve been a Necro main since head start and haven’t seen this ability on the class.

And yes, Reapers have a lot of ways to apply chill. It’s their main schtick! ANet said right off the bat that Reapers were designed to keep high Chill uptime.

So, if we’re complaining about something working exactly as it was designed to…

Chill up time renders any movement impairing duration reduction talents moot while increasing CD rate, reducing movement sped and causing a DOT.
i suppose i can see you’re point its not reaper… its chill that should be reviewed/balanced.

Or you could L2P. Only significant source of chills in the game right now is Reaper, which has very well defined strengths (which can be avoided) and weaknesses (which can be exploited).

And it’s apparent you’ve been trying to beat them by simply trading blows. This doesn’t work so well, since that’s attacking them where they’re strongest.

The chill attacks are LOS (line of sight). i think only two could be considered skill shots. its not about skill when you’re just ensuring there is no obstruction. so dodge can counter the chill attacks but not all of them.
you’re making it sound like i can just spam dodge and win. that is wholly a misrepresentation unless you’ve never really played and just don’t know (ad hominem sorry)

But your second point rings true. I’m not trying to remove the reapers abilities I’m interested in reviewing chill. maybe a new string is required.

It’s called “range.” Reapers don’t have good range ability and the majority of their abilities are 600 range or less. Of the “you should dodge this” skills they will have, you’re looking at only Grasping Darkness (if they run Greatsword, many don’t) or Ghastly Claws (if they run Axe) or Feast of Corruption (Scepter) that have longer than 600 range.

CCing them when they drop shroud is also a method of exploiting their weaknesses. Like all Necro builds, outside of shroud, defense is pretty close to non-existent.

If you know what to look for, beating Reapers is downright simple.

So, instead of coming here whining about how they’re good with Chill (like they were designed to be), try learning what they can’t do and use that information.

  • Deathly chill is the chill damage trait
  • Bitter chill causes vulnerability when you cause chill
  • Toxic chill….isnt even a thing?
  • Chilling nova requires the target already be chilled and you to crit before it will work. Its hardly passive since you need to chill to continue chilling as well as either a trait, stat or sigil investment to crit.
  • Shivers of dread means you have to fear your target, again unless you use a rune its all active play since all fear application is from active skills.
  • Cold shoulder doesnt cause chill at all..it makes it last longer, again you need to apply chill to see any benefit same as chilling nova.
  • Chilling dark means you have to blind someone. Again all blinds come from active skills.

There is no “passive” application. You’re saying that because you can trait something else you do to cause chill the chill is passive but by definition thats not passive at all because you still have to do something to get the chill just more things cause it.

How very confusing. Passive is more like adaptive armour or guardian virtues passive effects, signets, etc etc

My point still stands the only real “passive” come from sigils that are available to everyone. 99% of application comes from active abilities. Silv summed it up well minus a few things.

further more, the lack of CC affects on the class IS annoying. Maybe Anet should review CC mechanics in earnest instead of just making them superfluous towards a specific class to sell HOT.
An lastly i see A LOT of contrived points premised around primed language to elicit an emotional response instead of pursuing the conversation rationally. Name calling and trolling proves to me that the player base exploiting these effects are aware of their power and don’t want to surrender their one hit I WIN button.

The scepter AA inflict poison but you need to reach the 3 chain of the AA to inflict it. Then you can inflict poison with staff skill 3, corrosive poison cloud, the signet and with RS skill 4 (in combo with poison cloud inflict a Lot of poison). Then there’s the sigil that when you swap weapon make your next attack inflict poison but more or less there’s not a single necro using it why the necro can still inflict a lot of poison without it (and if you think it’s Op you can use it by yourself, it’s an old sigili, totally free to use without spend a copper). Ten there can be other skills and utilities that active it. But, just say, it’s more or less all considerated an Active Game Play, not a passive. (to inflict poison vith the scepter AA you ant to inflict it, why there’s a lot of other skills you can use/active instead of wait for the AA chain, unles you’re really out of skills.
But about the RS, only the skill 4 inflict Poison and that’s called Active Game Play, why you need to active that skill.
Chill can be inflicted by weapon swap with the sigil (you can also take it if you think it’s OP), then it’s all related to Active Gameplay. Staff skill 3 (and 5 with fear), the utility shout that inflict chill and send a condition, elite shout, RS skill 5 (also in combo with RS4 for chill projectiles), fear with RS3 and Spectral Grasp. You can also use the sigil that inflict 2 sec of chill when hit qith a 30%chance (with 10 sec of CD).
Then there’s the boon corruption. Regen become poison (not totally shure) and resistence become chill.

More or less, excluding the sigil of poison and the 2 of chill (that you can obtain free if you think they’re strong), it’s all an Active Game Play if you want to stack poison and chill.

In RS AA there’s not a single skill to inflict poison or chill, only poisoning with the AA3 of scepter or chill with the AA3 of GS (that more or less no one is able to land if the enemy move a step away)

no, stealth thief/mes was not what i meant. back then you had dps classes with stuns and quickness, quickness was 100% then, and you basically 100-0 somebody if you got your combo off. it was most of the time 1 tank (bunker guardian, one of the oldest specs they just killed again) and 4 dps, s/p thief, bullscharge gs warrior, power necro etc etc.

full dps is very bad for the game and full bruiser is very bad for the game.

they removed minstrel, an amulet that opened up the possibilities to run 2 support 3 dps. now we can go back to 3-4 bruisers and 1-2 dps.
just because some people tried to run too many tanky builds doesn’t mean that this was the way to go. another thing people always forget is that, and you will laugh now, decap engi is the counter to a full tank/bruiser setup.

And decap engi was not fun either. I’m not advocating for full DPS, and that’s a straw man.

I’m advocating for shifting the meta back to be more DPS oriented. The zerker 100b warriors you said didn’t fit my “can’t burst people in 5s” tenet above either. I want a balanced, not an extreme burst or extreme bunker game. Shave the 2 extremes and PvP will be much more fun to play/watch.

The meta from the June patch was the most fun/fast pace meta ever. After the xpac, we descended to a boring/slow bunker meta where people poke each other with Minstrel amulet. I’m glad they removed it. ANet really need to shift the meta to be more DPS oriented.

Tenets for a fun/not boring to watch games:

  • A 1v1 should never last more than 3 minutes
  • A 1v2 should never last for more than 1 minute
  • A 1v3 should die as soon as invul/block wear off.
  • A burst should never kill another class in less than 5s.

To achieve that we need:

  • Sustain damage needs to be buff
  • Burst damage keeps the same, or shave a bit for high bursts
  • Sustain defense needs a nerf

That’s the general direction. How to work out the numbers is up to ANet. But I really wish they can shift PvP into a fun to play mode again.

A more DPS oriented meta will also place the focus higher on rotation and team movements, since you don’t want to be caught 1v2. Right now people don’t care much about rotation if they slap on a bunker build.

Frankly, if Anet decide to make maps that purposefully waste my time so badly that I need a mount to get around, I won’t be going there.

This is hilarious, as Anet has indeed made that type of map, and it needs a glider “mount” to get around.

Getting around with a glider in a map with horizontal levels is not the same as needing a mount to cut travel time for vast expanses of desert nothingness. The only hilarious thing here is that you’re equating the two.

Seriously, go play witcher 3, its one of the best story telling and story progression in a game I’ve ever seen.

This is an MMORPG.

Most of the ppl didn’t buy it to play story mode…….

I certainly didn’t make this purchase and expected some amazing, grand story….CONTENT thats what makes and breaks MMORPG…..not story mode lol.

Stronghold is casual mode. Balance is done around conquest.

Wrong. Conquest is casual mode since launch, which barely has any viewers. I haven’t seen any tournament with more views than Minecraft streams or Goat Simulator streams, so I guess it has to be casual.

Also there aren’t any competitive teams. I may be wrong, but when I last time tracked CQ (before Stronghold was announced), then NA had only one winning team, which is proof that there is no competition at all.

Edit: I think its right time to Anet to abandon CQ and leave this fail mode which always has ‘not fun to play’ meta, because of its own horrible flaws.

So, during the beta weekend, they decided to give the Rev sword 3 an evade attached to it. Their reasoning was that when you used it, you’d get locked into this animation which would get you killed by a boss.

I immediately thought: It’s ok, this CAN’T stick. Ranger sword 1, Thief dagger 2, and many other skills in the game lock you into an animation creating the exact same issue, but instead of these classes getting evades it’s simply a “Learn to play” issue where using your abilities at the RIGHT time is more important then just using them when ever you feel like it.

However it has stuck. So now we see Rev’s with this ability that gives them straight up immunity giving the player ‘playing’ the class time to drink some coffee, and those not playing Rev have one way to counter this: Dodge. Twice.

You can’t fight back. You can’t CC them. You can only /sit and watch them float around in the air waiting for your turn to actually deal damage.

So unless im missing some thing, this skill has literally no counter play, it’s like if a thief’s pistol whip also teleported the thief to you the entire time the skill were active, allowing him to land all the damage of the skill.

I mean, it wouldn’t be so bad, if in full dps gear it did upwards of 1000 total damage, not 6k. Given how egregiously defensive this skill is, while still doing so much damage it need some sort of fix.

The fear one is a problem, yes, but not across the board. The way these forever stable mobs react is one of two ways:

-fear is applied, the condition does damage, but there is no CC at all
-fear is flat not applied at all, and no damage from it

the problem is this is inconsistent across these mob types.

please make both of these conditions apply and do their damage, and if the mob is CC-immune, just don’t apply the CC.

Self might, permanent 25 stacks of vulnerable by himself, high cleave damage shroud, boss killing GS2 (once boss hp <50%, your dps becomes 2nd, spamming the damage equivalent to 100B with no CD )

How can people not want this kind of dps class?

Because those are good traits only on unorganized pugs and those kind of pugs are doomed to wipe and fail.

I’ve just been in a more organized pug. I had perma 25 stacks of might and vulnerability without the need to lift a finger. I was explicitly told to not bother with might and vouln, they were right. Even at split it wasn’t an issue, you just need to survive long enough for them to clear one of the split bosses to then receive help.

Boon striping was needed but my reaper was laughable because you had to boon strip roughly every 10s so you burn trough your boon strips and fail your team <= reason why we wiped after we cleared the first split of the boss.

Necro’s siphons and heals were mostly useless, druid, ele, even warrior’s banner gave all the necessary heal to keep the zerkers alive. Same for protection on our wells, ONE herald pumped enough protection for 90% up-time.

Necro’s revive traits seem useless too, you either have enough heal spam to keep everyone alive and quickly ress who falls or you wipe anyway, blood magic traits or not.

The only useful party tools were well of blood and well +10% increased revive speed trait.

This was my experience thus far. It’s time to stop theory crafting and test things for real. I don’t want to hear "muh solo 25 stack might&vouln and revive port " anymore unless you have proven you can clear the kittening boss with your setup. (I’m not talking about you in particular Aomine)

I run a power scepter build and losing the additional damage per condition is just…dots…
I used to be able to crit 4-5k damage after Signet of spiting the enemy with FOC but now…I’ll be lucky with…I don’t know…2k damage?

the additional torment stacks got nothing to do with me.

please bring back the old scepter 3 Feast of corruption that gives 8% additional damage per condition
