[PvX] Necromancer Anti-Synergy

in Profession Balance

Posted by: AngelicLoki.1625

AngelicLoki.1625

There have been a lot of thread about the necro already, but I really want to put this one out there because I feel it’s something that needs to be fixed before we can even start to look at traits that are underwhelming.

The necromancer, as a class, as a lot of different ways to survive:
- Some of the highest life leech in the game
- Death Shroud
- Easy access to Cripple, Chill, and Weakness
- Relatively easy access to protection (Spectral Wall/Armor, Adept trait plus wells)

In addition, some of the recent buffs to life force generation have made the necromancer very powerful in 1v1 situations. However, death shroud as a mechanic is hurting the necromancer. The loss of utility skills means we cannot use any of our protection skills while we are in death shroud. Since we are supposed to use it to mitigate burst damage, needing to leave it and incur a cooldown to use those skills is painful. The argument could be made that this is part of the skill of using death shroud, and I agree. However, there are other anti-synergy elements as well that don’t have a question of skill.

1.) Signets:
Why do all signets disappear when we enter deathshroud? I’m sure it’s because death shroud is treated as a transformation technically (and thus “locks” signets, which puts them on cooldown), but that’s not really an acceptable reason. Signets are supposed to give passive skills when they aren’t actively being used. Denying us potentially strong effects while we are in death shroud makes signets much less useful to necromancers, and makes signet builds almost worthless since we wouldn’t get our signet buffs a significant percent of the time.

2.)Life Leech and passive healing:
We have a whole trait line dedicated almost solely to regenerating life through leeching and regen. And yet, none of it works in death shroud. Why? Would it be too powerful to allow us to heal in Death Shroud? Why? People can heal while in transformations, and that’s much the same situation. It actually makes me less useful in groups too, since guardian healing, warrior shout healing and other passive effects actually count me as a target and give me zero healing. This could be fixed either by making healing count towards the necromancer’s health pool while in DS, or by making it regenerate life force.

3.)Finishers:
While most classes can employ their class mechanics to aid them in finishing or resurrecting an ally (Distortion, Aegis, Stealth, Elixer S, Pet abilities), the necromancer has no such options. While we can use wells and blinds to help us finish someone, we cannot “interact” while in death shroud. I suspect this is also a result of DS being treated as a “transformation”, but I’d prefer death shroud in a slightly different incarnation if we could prevent crippling ourselves while in death shroud.

4.)Life Force Gain
It seems odd to say that the act of gaining life force is an anti-synergy, but it’s worth noting you cannot gain life force while in death shroud other than through life transfer. Reaper’s Precision, for example, will not yield life force on crit while in death shroud. People dying nearby also do not yield life force. Why? It punishes us for remaining in death shroud, through removing one of our main sources of sustain. This is very similar to life force gain, but another area where death shroud could see welcome improvement.

An argument could be made that minions intentionally cripple themselves as well due to the fact that we have 12 traits to buff them. Why so many? Reduce the overall number of traits and then increase the strength of base minions. I understand we dont want them to be overpowered base, but it would be nice to have a reason to use a minion other than “well, nothing better to have in this slot” (Blood Fiend and Golem in PvE).

Once death shroud is fixed to not actively work against the class, then I think we’ll start seeing interesting blood and signet builds, and we can finally see what traits really need reworking, and which traits have simply been handicapped by the fact that death shroud makes them not work over half the time.

And then a friend of mine who has no interest in Legendary weapons got a very nice precursor (The Chosen) the other day just from using a tricolor key. He sold it immediately and bought one of his toons Tier 3 Cultural Armor as part of the celebration.

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Myth #(whatever): The more you throw in, the better your chance…

Many folks have a misconception of what RNG is an how it works. RNG is getting s a specific result out of (X) possible combinations. So, if one throws in the same exact ingredients, the result is going to be the exact same ratio for each attempt.

(Much Simplified) Example: If you roll a regular 6-sided die, you have the exact same chance (1 in 6) of getting a 4 every time you roll the die. The number you rolled is not removed from the rotation. You have the potential to roll a 4 every time you roll, or never. It’s the same chance on roll #1 as it is on roll #401.

If you extrapolate to the chances of making a precursor, you have the exact same chance of getting one on your first attempt as you do on your 9000th. the odds simply don’t get better the more you try.

Woops, yeah wrong link. Fail-copy paste. Accidently copied the link of where the ad leads to instead of the link of the video itself. This thread sure isn’t gonna run low on my airheadedness any time soon.

Tho when I said model, I meant new model file. As in 3D model. Not new series of Asura gates if there’s a misunderstanding here. :p

And yep, agreed – with all the foreshadowing about LA being attacked anyway and how devastating this is supposed to be, the gate hub is the first that comes to mind when seeing this shot. If the LA-thing wasn’t pushing it, an unknown Inquest-location might also have fit. But looks like LA’s once more evil’s pinata.

I know LA’s sky has more colors than the Dreamer can shoot. Tho still what bothers me about it (beside that its color is SCARLET. How punny) is the moon. It’s a little too much in focus. It could be for the sake of mystery or showing the gate is completely broken but…idk how to explain. Feels weird.

I’m very curious about and excited for the next release but in a way also afraid.

If the LS taught me one thing so far, it’s that the initial release of an arc never seems to make sense until the next one clears up on it. (And until now some things are still hard to swallow even with loads of benefits of doubts.)

She’s anti-establishment though, and said herself that she doesn’t want her destiny to be controlled by the Dream, the Nightmare, or the Dragons, thus making her a champion of a dragon highly improbable. Queen Jennah is more likely to be the new champion of Kralkatorrik than Scarlet is to be the champion of any dragon, IMO.

Dear pandora eight.

I have absolutely no reason to distrust you when it comes to what you say. In fact, I believe what you’re saying is true.

In your eyes that is.

I would also like to point out that the information you are providing is extremely unlikely. Also, you are simply shutting down helpful comments and plausible theories (I say theory because I do not know of the store you bought the game from, etc.) that it is the store that is denying you your returning of GW2. You claim that ANet failed to provide information regarding returning the game., which really is pretty darn rude and obstinate of you.

Here’s something I want to point out. If you have complete faith in the store, there is no reason why you cannot have complete faith in ANet. If you can blame ANet, you sure as hell can blame the store, unless of course you’re biased. In which case, the case you are presenting falls in credibility even more and we can conclude that what you have written is nothing more than trolling or as you put it “nonsense”. I’ve had shopkeepers lie to me in the face because they thought that whatever it was I was requesting was a hassle, or they were misinformed and couldn’t/wouldn’t back down to save face. People lie all the time, this is, sadly, a fact.

As you claim that it is unacceptable for ANet to hide information (Something of which I agree to), I would like to claim your stand on protecting your beloved store to be “unacceptable” as well, on the grounds that you lack proof apart from whatever your store told you.

Which could, for all we know, be a lie.

Have fun.

After I’m elected, bribing me will be considered a “gold sink” :)

I’m impressed. How did you manage to replicate her soo well?

I took two screenshots of her face and put them up on my 2nd monitor. This was done a couple of months after launch, so those makeover kits didn’t exist then—had to do it in the character creator. I could change it to be an exact match, but I kind of like there being a little variation. The biggest difference is her size: mine is max size and bulk while Almorra is a rather small Charr by comparison.

Haha the sneaky buggers equipped Heritage gauntlets on her though. Came close, would fool most people at first sight. Kudos.

Yep, in that shot I still had those gloves. These days I generally run her around in a combination of T3 and Vigil, though I do have the full set of Vigil now. Regardless, that’s still the funniest shot of her! XD

Almorra is probably my fav Major Charr NPC all around.
It’s kind of surprising how good some of the NPCs look if you pay attention in your travels. Another one I like is Crea Irontooth (CoF P1).

Dagger mainhand would proc Vampiric Precision approximately 15 times during 30 seconds (2 seconds to complete the auto attack chain, 4 hits in the chain). That’s only 585 healing, which is less than a single mark of evasion. Using Life Siphon on cooldown would not change these numbers much.

So yeah, even on that front, Vampiric Precision just loses to other choices. This is even assuming you can land every single attack.

lol no one is complaining about it now. It’s been over 3 weeks, like I said. People found counters, and no one uses the trait because of how weak it is. Its almost too easy to counter.

You guys made such a big deal about this weeks ago. And I love getting to say ‘i told you so.’

The fact that it has counters and isn’t a very good trait in the grand scheme of thing does nothing to diminish how disconcerting it is that they would even try a trait like this that tries to passively destroy a particular build.

Damage Transfer from LF to Health: Bugged?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Cogbyrn.7283

Cogbyrn.7283

Alright, here’s the scoop I just found out testing with my girlfriend’s Thief in sPvP:

1. When the entire hit is absorbed by DS, only 50% of the damage is subtracted from your LF pool. At roughly 3000 life force, a 5200 Backstab took 2600 LF. I had roughly 400 remaining. So in short, that’s 1 LF per 2 damage.

2. When only part of the damage is absorbed by DS, the portion done to LF is calculated at 1 LF per 1 damage. A 5200 Backstab at 2000 life force removed 2000 life force and about 3200 health.

It sounds like if you take 100% falling damage, regardless of the fact that LF is additional “health”, it still just kills you. The more interesting part, though, is that if you take falling damage that is greater than your LF pool while in DS, you’ll still take all of that falling damage in health. If it’s less though, it just takes LF. Must be some weird interaction between the special case of falling damage and LF to health transitioning.

It does still seem like it’s a bit bugged, though how much that actually influences a fight can be determined by someone else. I can see it being a general bummer for the large numbers you can see in WvW, but not necessarily a fight-deciding bug against the majority of classes in the majority of situations.

Thanks for the input, folks.

Actually, I love the idea of bringing back conditional things. Especially as more weapons get added, having more niche utilities and more conditional skills (that semi rely on builds) are great.

For the Verata skill: I’m kind of confused, it sacrifices all your minions, and then heals the minions… that are dead? I don’t really see the point.

Some of them are far too strong in their current incarnation, but are great ideas. Besides some number tweaks and the Verata concern, +1 to the entire idea, absolutely love it.

Better theory!

Humanity was brought to Tyria by the “gods”. The Gods are hyper-advanced AI from a spaceship humans were on. Space ship crashlanded and people were de-frosted from cryo-sleep. Humans confuse the AI as gods and start worshipping them. Magic is really techno-magic. The Starfleet Charter says that without Warp Drive, they cannot involve themselves in the affairs of the planet. Starfleet is watching us and studying. Disappearance of the gods is the warp core running out of juice and no longer being able to project their forms.

TL;DR : Lost in Space x Star Trek x 2001: A Space Odyssey explains how humans came to be.

And just so everyone is clear, yes this is a joke.

I had also suggested that Order Missions might send you into those zones and included a few examples. I could dig up a link if anybody’s interested.

Subclass cosmetical trait line

What if you add 10 more points to each trait-line which are cosmetical only? You can’t use your trait points for it though, but c-trait points (cosmetical trait points).

Example:
Beast Master trait line (Ranger): 30 traitpoints (3 Major and 3 Minor traits) + 10 c-traitpoints (1 Minor and 1 Major c-trait).

Each c-trait slot (Major and Minor) has c-traits just like the normal traits, but those are only cosmetical.

Beast Master c-traits:

  • Minor: you now are able to equip Beastmaster-gear-skins.
  • Major I: your felines have a new fur-pattern
  • Major II: your beastmaster’s gloves get claws (cosmetical only of course)
  • Major III: your axes look 10% larger
  • Major IV: your pet is 10% larger
  • Major V: your drakes use new sound effects
