@Orpheal
Would a deck system that unlocks unique profession specific appearance items by using the ‘deck’ to complete content fulfil your idea of the sub-class? This does not require the addition of sub classes per se but creates recommended builds that when a player selects the deck it will change their skill bar and spend their trait points as well as recommend the optimal stats/sigils/runes. By completing content with the Deck equipped your xp gained would work towards unlocking unique cosmetic items. A necromancer who uses the corruptor ‘deck’ would unlock armor that leaves behind poison pool footsteps while a lich deck causes the character to gain a spectral sheen. As new skills and weapons become available new decks would incentivize players to try the new skills/weapons with their characters.

Players don’t care about the lore?

I think if you looked through the threads in this forum you’d find yourself very wrong and that Malyck, the sylvari you speak of, is discussed quite frequently. Far more than any other sylvari-only storyline element.

And I don’t think it is that none of the NPCs care, but that it’s treated as best to keep the knowledge as secretive as possible because if the Nightmare Court learned of the other tree then they could seek to destroy, rather than corrupt, the Pale Tree and seek to “start anew” with the other tree – the entire point you kill off the Knight of Embers with Malyck. Plus Malyck promised to return himself, so there’s no need to seek out the tree yourself when your Wyld Hunt is to kill Zhaitan – who is an immediate threat, what with his invading Lion’s Arch (for the third or fourth time) and doing far better this time than ever before.

TBH though, it’s not the only storyline utterly forgotten in the later levels.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

A lot of suggestions here won’t work against a good MM. You will never just blanket AoE a decent MM’s minions down, you’ll need to target them. You won’t just free-cast all your abilities, they are going to chain CC you (which can easily breach 12s of constant hard CC rotation from condition-based to daze/knockdown with the same amount of chill following). You won’t just focus the MM through it all.

Its a balance act, a big game of push and pull, if you want to beat an MM. You take the easiest route, because there are multiple ways to win (depending on build). If the MM stacks all their minions up in melee and runs in with them, you AoE them all down. If the MM is standing right next to all the range minions, drop AoE on that. If the MM is positioning themselves correctly though, you mix between focus-firing the MM (to apply pressure) and kiting the melee minions, while trying to get the minions all stacked together, if possible. You also need to be sure to save your defensive and offensive CDs. Most MMs will want to chain as much CC as possible, break a link of the chain and then use a dodge to screw up their timing. Offensively, a lot of what they do to stay alive relies on a few key abilities, and then very high raw defense. But raw defense crumbles very quickly with no sustain.

Again, a lot of it has to deal with build. A power build will want to deal with things differently than a condi, and it depends on the utilities you have as well.

Dear bartmoss.5107,

You seem confused, so here’s a hint: Guild Wars 2 is supposed to be a game with a broad audience in mind, not just you.

Stop complaining when you don’t like a very specific part of the game.

Instead, please spend your energy enjoying the parts of the game that do appeal to you.

Thanks.

Any plan that involves dead quaggans is, by design, foolproof. I’m an unmitigated genius!

Sounds like someone is having a hard time with the Wintersday JP.

It is also a rather silly complaint seeing as the JP is just a very tiny part of Wintersday, while the vast majority of the release (and all releases for that matter) is not JPs.

Some people clearly like JPs, so let them have their fun. The game is not created specifically for you after all.

Studio Design Director

i remember you guys talking about endgame horizontal progression before maybe look at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIExN1GZK_Q
that lasted what 2 months? how long will anything from this cdi last? before you nerf it and promote gold farming for “economic reasons”

given the treatment of the vertical component of this discussion where inconvenient commonly discussed points were flat out ignored, and the most common dev posts were a variation of “im really busy with the holidays will read/reply later” its clear this will be marginalized with a token feature and “we listened to your feedback” when you introduce more unpopular changes.

many of the proposals in this thread have been discussed again and again over the last year
and you guys are always reading the forum’s right?, so its not like its new information, you have not taken action so far, we should believe you will now why exactly? your track record isn’t exactly good at this point, its not even average.

at this point i think this has degenerated into a PR exercise and you wont actually do anything substantial, so im no longer interested in taking you through game design basics you should already know.

Sadly this is how I see it at the moment. I do not feel this initiative is serious no matter how many times it is said to be taken serious. Simply because the actions do not reflect the words. Asking for a top 3 after 17 pages of ideas looks more like not wanting to go through it themselves and all that it accomplishes is rehashing the same old that has been talked about already without rhyme or reason.

Hi Shadow Blade and Conner,

The fruits of everyone’s hard work have already begun to show through, specifically in regard to the first CDI- Living World. The return on investment will take time to present itself due to the nature of game development.

However if you don’t feel like the initiative adds any value then you don’t need to partake in it.

Another Idea I would like to work on is the following:

  • You can SAVE A CLASS: sort of like a template item you can save being a level 80 class in for example, guardian.
  • Once achieving level 80 on a class, the game keeps track of it, and you are able to “activate” any class you leveled to 80 on any character you wish.
  • The template system keeps track of the skills you have unlocked on your account (not the cultural ones). Cultural skills can be purchased per race for the whole account.
  • Armour can be stored in an unlimited STAT DATABASE, where you can withdraw any amount of for example “Berserker_L80_HeavyHelm”. The armour will soulbound and not salvageable upon withdrawing.
  • Skins can be stored in an unlimited SKIN DATABASE, where you can withdraw any skin you want for example “Vigil_Helm”. As with stats these are soulbound and not salvageable upon withdrawing.

See here: the most alt-friendly and least grindy game ever seen (yes it’s basically the SPvP system we have in GW2 and the PvP system we had in GW1).

OPEN WORLD PLAYER BUILDING

  • Allow us to customize PvE zones:
    - Herboreal Mastery: Allow us to gather seeds from existing trees and plant new ones in areas where it’s possible for them to grow: variety! Special zones & climates > Special trees. Seeds will drop from specific trees, aka. Ancient Trees, that are permanent (not able to cut them down) and player-planted trees, that are not permanent. You’ll have to go out in the world and gather seeds yourself!
[Trees will sprout from the ground without players aswell, by chance]
    - Deadwood Mastery: Allow us to cut down player-planted trees on a limited scale (say 1 tree/account/day): trees should give a realistic and big mass of wood. If you cut down a tree planted by someone else, you have to pay that person with seeds from that tree. It is possible to scavenge, but there will be a prize on your head if you do, so be wary thieves!
    - Delving Mastery. Allow us to delve for ‘metals’ (not compared to the ore gathering we have now) in special spots per zone that are rich with ore. You can find spots that are able to be delved (destructible earth) with an ability.
    - Stonegrowth Mastery: Stimulate existing mines to produce more rich metals. This involves dwarven and alchemic rituals. [Ores will be produced by mines without players too, by natural processes]
    - Construction Mastery: Use materials you gather: different kinds of wood, different kinds of metal, rock and earthly materials to build something in the world, also in pre-restricted areas that have stable foundations etc etc.
  • All the materials for these masteries should be accountbound and gathered through exploring the world yourself. It is possible to build things in group.
  • The beauty of the idea: despite it being restricted to certain areas, everyone will have their shot at all these masteries. Constructions will decay from weather, atmosphere and occasionaly a storm or a monster invasion. They will be damage-able, but not by other players, UNLESS you decide to build in WvW… The need will always be there to explore and master your crafts. You might need a group of people in order to build one house, or be a very dedicated solo player. (it’s possible to build a guild house, or to gain dominance in a city as a guild).
  • Adding affiliation in the mix: npcs such as refugees (Frost & Flame) can be convinced to build their own homes around existing player structures, by helping them with heart quests and somesuch.
  • The world will become truly dynamic, with NPC’s on the move! This means existing settlements can be abandoned, take Fort Salma in Kessex Hills. NPC’s will migrate and hearts will too! Enemy NPC’s will be able to destroy those existing settlements and change zones with enermous expansion, if nobody stops them.

EDIT: To differ the general principle of these mechanics, it shouldn’t be like a generic ‘kill and gather’ sort of thing:

  • Woodcutting could mean… climbing, with risks involved (O_O)
  • Delving could mean… exploring underground (also climbing).
  • Different classes could also get different ways to gather these resources:
    - Would you like to shoot an arrow up to a tree branch, tug it and test it’s strength and pull yourself up at risk of breaking the branch or wrenching your hooked arrow loose, as a ranger?
    - Would you enjoy dropping a couple of bombs on top of the tree and time-racing to get out of the tree before it explodes, as an engineer?

This really opens up a LOT of possibilities for adventure, challenge and fun!

On the bottom level of Rata Sum, there is a stage where a group of asura gathered around a single asura who would dance and they would cheer him on. You can also hear techno music playing as you approach the stage.

Now, he is no longer dancing.

This is quite possibly the single most severe bug to have ever been in the game. It is completely game breaking. Please see to it that the dancer resumes dancing. The NPC asura in question is named Krewe Apprentice Jerr “The Golem”.

Thank you.

The fact that you can complete 80% (100% according to some) of the content in this game without the need of build diversity aka full berserker… is not broken ?

The fact that because of the above reason, in the current PvE diversity is not embraced but criticized… is not broken ?

The fact that 1 year into the game you can still do corner stacking (exploit ??) to favor the above two statements… is not broken ?

The fact that all of the above statements lead to people mindlessly doing only part of the overall content… over and over again… is not broken ?

The fact that in the current PvE being at range most of the time offers no benefit vs being in melee (that’s why they can go full berserker everywhere… ask spoj how he does fractals berserker melee necro… that’s what he said, so… if someone can do it, everyone can do it)… is not broken ?

The fact that in the current PvE system… tanking is not requied, neither is debuffing… or healing… which puts some classes that act as a debuffer at a heavy disadvantage (as in who would want a necromancer for chill, blind and weakness – those aren’t even considered group support, because they are not needed or equivalent to the warrior group support, which favors corner stacking full berserker steam roll)… this is not broken ?

Are we not playing the same game ? Or am i the only one that wants diversity… and content that demands diversity ?

Armour for charr (no tail clipping)

Naus the Gobbo.5172

Hello.

I thought I’d make a list of the armour that goes with charr, since a lot of armour doesn’t take the tail into concideration.

I will update this thread as more armour is added to the game, and I would really appreciate it if a dev could sticky this thread so people can get a little overview of gear that works well with the race, since the general impression is that everything clips with charr.

The armour either doesn’t clip at all with the tail, or doesn’t do it to an extent that you will really notice it.

The names are from the wardrobe in the Heart of the Mists, so the names may be different in PvE.

I’ve done a few of these in the beginning as well, when i had a PvP team… we brought a mesmer as well for time warp, everything melted.

The problem is… not only do you require a team with voice chat and perfect cooridnation, so SOLO Q is a nono…
As we could have observed throughout the videos, some of them just left the fight when you guys wen Lich Form… they went somewhere else and were useful there…

This can be the current meta for a while, until people remember how to counter it…
It is highly entertaining to do… requires little individual effort, huge team effort… and gets countered mostly only by the “Divide et impera” method… and then it gets countered really hard…

But until that time… great job…

Since necromancers are masters of death:

All skills and utilities work as they are, but necromancer then dies due to using said skills/utilities.

Since necromancers prefer death, resurrecting a necromancer is not a working game function. The necromancer, once dead, must stay in the spirit world and haunt the other players by spamming “OoooOooooo” on their screen.
