It’s not discrimination. It is rewarding those who’ve played wvw for years. Why should new players, who might leave wvw altogether when they have their rewards, get the same amount of pips as those loyal to the game mode?
I welcome everyone new to wvw, and hope you find it fun, but you have to earn your ranks and rewards like the rest of us. Wvw has been neglected for ages, so it is past time for those of us playing this game mode to get something from it.
Please remember, someone else’s rank doesn’t take away from your fun and rewards. Stick with wvw and you’ll get there soon enough yourself!

Giving you EXTRA rewards literally every 5 minute tick is too much. Rewarding extra for the content you enjoyed in the past is wrong. You have already had a head start on the achievement points and so giving you permanent boost in your pips is simply outlandish. .
Your logic is seriously flawed. Let me help: you didn’t invest in the wvw game mode and now you want instant gratification. Since you cant get that, no one should have it.
I’m going to pop into PVE now, I get insta raid armor, right? Insta map completion? Oh, I don’t? Well darn, guess I will have to put in some effort! The horror! Call the ACLU!

Hey i also dont like legendary armor in raids, fractal skins in fractals, that PvE players make more gold.
Also i hated when students studied before tests to get good grades when i just want good grades.
Also if your using the word discrimination like this wouldnt that mean that WvW players have been discriminated for like 5 years !!!!!!!!!
Good to see pve entitlement is alive and well.
Take away account wide gold find, and magic find by an extension of that logic. It discriminates against new players. Nodes in home instances? Also a no no. Unfair.

Heaven forbid you deserve any kind of reward for spending your time achieving high ranks in WvW.
I’ll be so disappointed if Anet caves and lowers the requirements. It will take away the value of it.
If the time to get other legendary backpacks were equal this wouldn’t be an issue. This really sets a bad precedent for future items in WvW because they’re essentially devaluing the game play by overhauling the item and its requirements.
Majority of wvw players are happy as it’s, just pvers complaining. old wvwers would like to see even rank limit you have to reach before entering main wvw maps.

Two things:
1) people vote with their actions. If nobody is happy with the update then why are there queues all over the place? This morning at 10 we had an EBG queue of 30! In the evening all bl’s and EBG have queues of 30 min – 2 hours.
2) people leaving WvW because some of the rewards take a long time to get? Just not happening. The Ultimate Dominator title is out of reach for almost everybody, and no one is comlaining about that.
Because a lot of people (and seemingly devs in particular) seem to confuse things people will put themselves through for a reward, with what they ENJOY doing. In a certain other game I did a whole lot of dungeon grinding every week to max out a currency to be able to boost my gear’s stats by 10 iLvls. Did I have to do it? No. Did my guild NEED me to do it? No, we already had everything on farm. Does doing it mean I enjoyed it? No. So why did I do it? Cuz “10 iLvls is shiny dude!” and not doing it would be equaled to “slacking”. People complained about this mechanic like crazy. It was still reintroduced in the next expansion cuz “people loved it last time!”.. No, people did it. They didn’t love doing it. There’s a difference.
Same thing for earning WvW Ranks now. I will get to rank 2000 if I have to, but being on a pretty toxic WvW server I most of the time will not enjoy doing it. I’ve already disabled Team chat cuz it’s so full of hate towards “newbies” and “PvE plebs” and “zomg PvE:ers go k*ll yourselves” nonsense..
And for anyone saying “Well WvW:ers want special things too, they deserve to be rewarded for all their work!”: Does that mean you agree that the next PvE “specific” item requires you to have 20k AP to obtain? You already have WvW specific titles etc.. Now you have some really awesome rewards too (otherwise us “PvE plebs” wouldn’t come into WvW to obtain them).. But you seem to confuse “unique to WvW” with “only super duper hardcore and have been for years should be allowed to have them”. This attitude doesn’t really exist in the other game modes, so I’m a bit confused as to why WvW:ers seems to think they’re such a special group.
So you want to grind 2 years for a ascended armor in a game mode you do not like?
Imho the point of these high rank requiremens is especially that it turns off grinders, and rewards players that like to play WvW. If you like it you will get the rewards eventually and it will not feel like a grind.
The idea of Pips was to get people playing WvW again in the long term, not so they could ktrain it in eotm.
The collection journeys are great, but slowed production down so much that ANet took a huge PR hit for not having all the new weapons available at HoT launch. So much that even with them dropping the journeys for the newest ones, they are still nowhere near completing the set even as the next expansion looms.
Plus there was a lot of grief due to the journeys requiring events to complete/not complete that other players wanted the opposite status on.
So ANet gave up and went back to the original just-get-massive-mat-piles method. Which is still better than having to do that -plus- be incredibly unlikely to get a precursor without paying tons of gold.
It’s very nice for all you K-trainers or Eotm abusers, but for scouts or non-zerglings it is far from ok.
I am rank 2956. 90% of my gameplay is solo or small group roaming; very little EOTM play. This armor is not out of your reach if you have regularly played WvW.
Some people are going to get their backpieces like a whole month before others due to timegates, for absolutely no reason

Anet move the pip system to eotm. You are utterly ruining wvw even more than when you released HoT. Let the blobbers and ktrainers go to eotm and grind there. Real wvw isn’t a place for that. The only players that are having fun are the players that have 50+ man blobs on every map and are able to just run over everybody else and PPT.
But hey if you were trying to turn real wvw into eotm you did it, good job. Now you can shut down the eotm maps to save money for your dying game.
No…wvw will settle. EOTM is not wvw and doesn’t deserve wvw reward.

For what it’s worth:
- I’m currently rank ~500.
- I’ve played wvw every month since launch, sometimes hardly at all, sometimes daily.
- I’ve played all the ‘seasons’, participated in small- and large-guild WvW.
And I think the requirement is perfect.
This is a reward for those who have dedicated more of themselves to the game mode and been left out of most of the newer shinies. It’s also a great long term goal for me. If the requirement were 500, well, I’d be grinding it out over the shortest possible period and be done with it.

Then you didn’t spend that long in WvW or you didn’t spend your time in WvW very effectively. Capture objectives and kill players, easy to get WXP. My group runs 5 people for about 3 hours a night on raid nights and I usually get 5-10 ranks per run depending on who we’re fighting against.
So you are telling me that this wvw should be played only in big zergs trying to ppt all the time, forget the fights and do nothing besides that?
Well, i don’t think so. I play as a roamer and until last year i was on a big guilds.
There is no right or wrong. It is still an absurd require so much of a player for a game, it is not health at all and dissipate that idea only shows anet doesn’t care.And btw, what bothers me the most is not the rank requirement (still ridiculous for a upgrade of an ascended set) are the pips needed to get the rewards that is an absurd.
Reading comprehension skills need to be used here. I specifically said that I run in a group of 5 people. What part of that sounds like we play in a big zerg ppting all day?
I guess this is my fault that i used my time playing this game as a roamer and it is less valuable than someone blobing.
As a roamer, I again say that you were not doing a good job roaming if you aren’t getting good WXP in the process. I don’t run with blobs, I run in a group of 5 people who avoid the blobs and do our own thing for our own fights and we also cap objectives along the way. That is how you get to be a useful roamer to your server as well as get fights. If you’re just standing outside of the enemies spawn waiting to pick up bad players on a thief, you’re not a roamer, you’re just being a bad solo player.

Roaming is plenty rewarding if you’re doing it right. I run around looking for fights, but between fights, I’m taking sentries, camps, towers, some times even keeps. My group of kittens objectives frequently to bring fights to us. I even do this when I am solo roaming and take towers frequently solo.

That could be intentional though. All the focus on the update is on getting comms to tag up and getting ppl into squads and parties, so they seem to want to encourage more group play and less solo play in wvw, which does kind of make sense if you think about it lol . . .

Dodge, stunbreaks, stability and other defensive mechanisms protects you from CC. Personally I do not have any gripe with CC. Sure, it happens that you in some situations have used up all defence but that is my bad, not the games fault.

Im not sure how you are not getting much wexp from havok. Yaks, sentries, camps, towers, it adds up quickly. Until HoT sucked much of the fun out of it for me I mained theif and mostly did havok and was ahead of most other players on my server. I made sure I killed a guard at every structure I passed just incase the blobbed flipped it later, because you still get credit for it provided you havent logged out, but thats about the biggest nod to trying I ever made.
Pure roamers that never touch an npc I can understand having a hard time but certainly not havok.
Rank is much more effected by the sheer amount of hours you play in my experience. Despite doing small stuff for the majority of the game and rarely setting foot in EOTM, (I have literally no EOTM achieves done), I’m Diamond Legend No Life :/

To clarify further this is the first week we are using this new algorithm. So some of the complaints that are being brought up were problems with the old algorithm.
We use play hours to determine the size. Rank gains is tracked for comparison purposes since they usually follow a similar curve, but isn’t actually used to determine the world size.
We have simulated other algorithms to measure world size and ultimately found that player hours gave us more accurate results because we are mostly comparing active WvW play. The past algorithms weighed more heavily on individual players, so we ended up with situations where JQ was ‘Full’ because they had a lot of players, just not necessarily ones that played as much as Blackgate.
EotM does not count towards those metrics.
