Fantastic orchestral music to "Pokemon"

Three things…

1.- We still don’t know whether the S2 script will be childish or not…

2.- Childish can be good sometimes (from a 38 years old that loves watching cartoons and animated movies… and I still consider The Iron Giant as my favorite movie so far)

3.- Who says that childish and orchestral don’t mix?

"Log in to unlock story content"?

If you read instead of overreacting…

No, you both can’t understand context and took a single word too literally, at the expense of the entire paragraph.
I know all you have to do is log in. The point is, if you miss the event you can’t go back to it. So why have the journal?
If you’ve logged in then you’ve very likely played it anyway. The typical Living Story update can be seen in its entirety after 1-2 hours. After that you’re just grinding out enemies or mini games for rewards.

So many people have been saying, “I wanted to play such and such update of season 1 but I was too busy to play for more than like 5 minutes in the last two weeks”. This is for them and it’s a very welcome addition. I am going on vacation on the 28th until the 16th of next month. I will have to pay gems and am 100% absolutely stoked that I will get to play this as opposed to Season One where I would have missed out entirely. That is who the Journal is for.

Who else is super excited about the LW format updates?

- Bridging the disconnect between the PS and the LW has been one of the most badly needed polish-pieces since the LW began last year. Goodbye immersion breaking cognitive dissonance!

- It’s a smart business model. It’s totally optional, but even if you miss it and want it it’s a meager $2.50, which is low enough that you’re not paying it grudgingly but substantial enough to provide Anet with more revenue for more new content. Plus, it incentivizes players to log on while content is current to get it for free.

- More story telling UI in the game for a more immersive gaming experience in general.

- The level 80 requirement is awesome. Anet can now focus on designing content around end-game appropriate levels of challenge. Plus, it helps conceptually line up the PS and the LW in a way that makes sense (i.e. the chronology is clear).

- Goodbye soul-destroying achievement grinds, hello fun goodies.

- PERMANENCE! Too much temporary content makes it too easy for people to lose interest in the game when they inevitably get behind in the story and miss things. It also makes it feel like the world isn’t properly growing, which is something every MMO needs.

Yeah, I’m happier than I’ve been regarding the direction of this game in quite some time.

er, is making a game more challenging a bad thing? Is encouraging people to play other content a bad thing?

Being heavily against the cash-shop focus that this game has and how it effects this game I am not that heavily against the idea of unlocking the previous episodes for gems. Thats also not very strange as I am in favor of moving to expansion sales to earn the money and strip the cash-shop down (putting all those things in the game) and you can see some similarities between unlocking previous episodes and selling expansions. It’s still far from the same but has more similarities that how the cash-shop worked so far.

However I do think the way it’s done is still not good. Use 200 gems to unlock a previous episode? How about use 200 gems to unlock the previous episodes (and the upcoming 5*). And yes then still 200, not suddenly going up in the price.

The thing is that it would likely not even mean much lose in gem-sales. If somebody is has been gone for a while, lets say half a year then he is not very likely to go and unlock every episode for 200 gems paying 2400 gems. Not only that, you will get a huge load of negative feedback over smaller episodes because people did pay money for it. No, at best (not counting exceptions) they unlock two or three episodes that many people still repeatedly do. However a big group will not unlock everything and might in fact not game back to the game for that reason. What they see is a huge pay-wall and not for expansion-like content (because if you guys are going to put that in the game it will be already available for them) but for a huge list of episodes including there events and rewards. So asking money for every single episode makes no sense.

Letting people unlock all previous episodes for 200 gems will be something people will do and are also more likely to do again when having missed a few while if it’s pay per episode they might simply not buy them. *Before I also said that when unlocking all previous episodes they should also unlock the upcoming 5 (or 4 or 6 something like that). Obviously I don’t mean they should be able to play upcoming episodes but I mean that whenever they become available they will be unlocked for them also if they do not log in. This prevents people from waiting with unlocking the previous. Someone might come back from a vacation and have missed 2 episodes but the upcoming 2 months he might also have less time to be online, so just to make sure he does not now spend 200 gems and the misses another episode 3 weeks for now he decides to wait 3 weeks and 3 weeks become 6 weeks eventually not bother with it at all anymore. This is easily prevented by also unlocking the upcoming x events.

Doing it like I say here will mean more people being willing to return or jump into the game at a later time and will likely not drops the total number of sales you will get for unlocking episodes. And because you would have more people playing the overall income will also increase.

I hope you ArenaNet learned something now seeing how what many people did say already a year ago content should not be temporary. You come to the conclusion we where right so also take this advice into consideration and don’t wait another half year to conclude that the episode selling did not worked out as you hoped it would.

BTW, I’m still in favor of an expansion-based model because the changes do not remove most of the cash-shop focus related problem. Just to be clear.

Hence 200 gems per episode? Have you ever had to pay for anything in your life? Goods and services cost money, they are never free no matter what anyone has told you. You have to pay for them. I don’t understand what is so difficult about this concept for you, you pay 200 gems to unlock previous episodes. You don’t know what the quality will be of them, you assume it to be good though. Let me give you an example. If you watched the series Breaking Bad. You buy Season 1, not knowing if you will like it, but let’s assume you do. So you buy season 2, ALSO not knowing if you like it, but again you assume you will. Please stop littering the forum with your incompetency because you cannot understand that you have to pay for things that cost money, it’s pretty simple. You don’t know what the quality of these episodes/seasons will be so you just deal with it and you will probably buy them anyways because this is a great direction for the game.

An End to the Queensdale Train

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CaptnRio.2705

CaptnRio.2705

I am openly against the train in Queensdale (QD). Not about trains in and of themselves, just the one currently in QD. I have admittedly started many disagreements in map chat about why the QD train is not healthy and have received nothing but ill thought out arguments that i wish to address here and hopefully raise awareness of the issue with Anet.

Firstly, my main argument for why the QD Train is a bad thing is because it is in a starting area. An area where players who are just starting out should be able to freely roam around and learn to play the game without a rampaging horde of higher level characters running around zerging everything in sight. Starter zones should be able to teach players how to control their character with their weapon abilities, utility skills and how to keep moving and dodging in order to survive.
Instead, what players get upon first arriving in QD is a massive blob of players who have grouped up for easy experience and non-challenging gameplay.

A majority of the arguments that i receive, is that i should not tell people how to play the game. This argument swings both ways as i have on numerous occasions when spawning the Champion Cave Troll by Vale WP and request assistance, that i should stop being a troll and wait for others in the train to come and kill it. This in itself is an example of people trying to tell me how to play the game which they seem very against when i say that the train should be stopped. A friend of mine once got so much offensive and unneeded harassment for killing a champion on the path of the QD train through Map chat and Whispers, that they did not log on for a few days. I can only imagine what this would be like to a player who logged on their first day and received this sort of abuse.

GW2 is the best B2P MMO on the market. No content updates? Then vote with your wallet and don’t put a penny/cent into the gem store.

I still don’t understand why people compare this to P2P games and whine about infrequent content updates.

For now, China launch was the focus. Now that that is done, we may see some content in the works. Again, vote with your wallet and don’t “pay” to play if you are not getting any content for your money. If gem buyers start to diminish, they will soon pump out content to bring people back.

So, I’ve considered posting this for a couple days now. I tend to lurk rather than posting. I realize this will likely fall on deaf ears, but after this weekend, I feel like it really needs to be said.

The attitude on the forums, and the response from the community over the past week (and even before that) is appalling. Every new thread is created to somehow belittle or bash the Anet dev team, or to negatively criticize every aspect of the game (whether part of the new update or not). And it isn’t just in General – it’s happening in PvP, in WvW, in the Profession forums, all of them. Is this criticism valid? Certainly – there are threads created for the exact purpose of collecting that information (and no, we don’t need to keep making 9 different threads on the same topic). But the tone of that criticism has reached an all-time low, and it’s turned the forum into a toxic mess. We’re no longer in the territory of constructive, positive discussion that a forum like this is here to encourage.

The general consensus of the community appears to be one where we expect the dev team to be chained to their desks 24/7, fixing every mistake and catering to every whim of any player who feels like our gameplay has somehow been diminished. I mean, just look around – you’ll find it in almost every new thread that’s been created this week. How does this kind of feedback – the whining, the complaining, the bashing, the lack of patience, the anger – actually help the game or promote any kind of meaningful discussion? Everyone seems to be shocked at the lack of responses from the dev team about issues – is it really any wonder why? If I were them, I wouldn’t respond to anything either, considering the community won’t be happy with whatever they have to say (or even if its what they want to hear).

Have there been problems this week? Certainly. Could things have been rolled out differently? Probably. But in no way does that excuse how this community has reacted. We dare say the Anet team can’t have a bloody holiday weekend to themselves? Of course they can! Who are you to say they don’t deserve one? (And there are threads where this exact statement is happening).

Lets use the Megaserver as an example. For those complaining about the megaservers, have you even considered that releasing this update this week, in this way, is intended? The Megaserver system is a BIG deal. And the devs have said repeatedly that its an ongoing system. I mean, the update isn’t even a week old! How do you expect the dev team to make any meaningful changes to the system to improve things, when they don’t even have enough data yet to determine what those changes should be? It’s called patience, and this community could use a huge dose of it.

Altogether, I know this thread isn’t going to deter the community’s reaction to the new content. I know it’s not going to correct anything. But I’m hoping that, if you support the dev team, their hard work, and their efforts to give us something great to play, you’ll post in here and let them know.

I love the new updates, and I know that I for one can’t wait to see what’s coming for us next

she did nothing in the battle for LA or the extended version of battle for LA we currently play.

B: She’s disabled and can’t walk much at all

WHY should she be in a major battleground where the enemy takes no prisoners and could disable her golem?

Living Story Has Killed the Game for me

in Living World

Posted by: Erukk.1408

Erukk.1408

How is this problem different than any other MMO? Once a player completes everything, the only thing really left to do until new content comes out is to make another character. Then another… Then another…

Once content does come out, it is usually all finished within a couple of weeks to maybe a month. Then after that, you are only logging in to level your alts, or you are just doing dailies or running a dungeon/raid for the “latest drop” (aka: new raid tier armor). The problem you are describing is in no way new at all, or just pertaining to GW.

I do agree that Anet does need to work on non-zerg content. While that does help with the feel of the story, as it helps convey the large scale destruction and battle feeling, not all players like to do zerg after zerg.

The story problem can be easily solved by just walking around and talking to npcs. The one’s around the LS area usually fill the player into what’s happening at the moment. Though, if you are missing any parts, and if you are feeling particularly lost about it, you can always go to the Lore forum and ask. They will usually point you to an easy place to get the cliff notes or explain anything you might ask about.

There is only one thing I’d totally disagree with though…

To finish it all off, the kill on Scarlet was totally rushed and didn’t explain anything! Why did she gather the molten alliance, etc.? No one knows. In fac,t no one knows why she did anything at all.

If you did the final instance, and you killed Scarlet, the final cinematic very much showed why she did everything she did. It didn’t show the finer details of everything, since the explanations for the various alliances were breadcrumbed through the LS. but it showed what her entire endgame was.

Why the hell would Braham tell Scarlet “it doesn’t matter now” when she was about to tell us why she did what she did?! I really wanted to know. I want questions answered!
