I think there’s a disconnect between what content we get, and what content players feel they should be getting. If you’re asking the question “has there been content?” then the answer is, of course, yes.

If you’re asking “does the scope of the content we’ve received match what we received in GW1?” then the answer is very far from yes.

I don’t think anyone is really arguing that we haven’t been given content, but given that Anet is four times the size they were when they made GW1 and working on a larger budget game, they’ve introduced an incredibly tiny fraction of what we received in GW1 in the same time frame. That means skills, weapons, explorable areas, classes, dungeons, hard mode, etc. Living Story has, so far, failed to introduce this entirely, or on a scale that matches GW1. The game is also still missing features which should have been present at launch, like Guild Halls and GvG.

Nobody is really disputing that Anet has released content. It just doesn’t nearly match the scope of GW1.

Salient points. And respectfully put. Also, the hype that was coming out about GW2 from a GW1 player’s perspective was hard to ignore. In a year and half we got 3 stand alone GW games. So when the hype started coming out about GW2 in such an excited fashion, it was impossible as a fan of GW1 not to be really excited because of the precedent of the quantity of quality content in GW1.

Flytrap: It’s ok to be letdown because of this stuff. It’s not OK to be disrespectful though. In fact, if you are respectful in your comments and criticism you are more likely to be listened to rather than heard and ignored because how you are saying what you want to say is hurtful and disrespectful.

ANet promised a new type of game: no traditional trinity, pure open-world cooperative content, and an evolving world. They never promised the things that are associated with traditional expansions. They promised an amount of content that would be similar, but they have never said: new races, new professions, new dungeons, and 10-20 new zones all at once.

They did promise it wouldn’t cost us anything, if they had anything to say about it.

I must say, I love this system:

  • For those of us who logon daily, the world continues to change and there’s almost always something new and challenging.
  • For my friends who only logon every 1-3 months, it’s as if they are starting a new game.
  • Did I mention the “free” part? (Oh yeah, I guess I did.)

In contrast, the traditional expansion gets boring (for people such as myself) after 1-2 months because a lot of the content becomes obsolete (due to no down-leveling) or dull (due to lack of changes).

Of course, people have their preferences. If you are looking for the content & features of a traditional expansion, you are bound to be disappointed. You could try another game or you could try resetting those expectations. Or, you can get increasingly frustrated by ANet failing to deliver what you want.

The choice is yours.

Okay, some of you are getting ridiculous. How can you say they haven’t added content? They have added a lot of content, but most of it wasn’t permanent, and most of it isn’t content that is expected from traditional MMOs.

If you want to argue about content, then argue about those points. I can’t take someone seriously when this link shows they are wrong.

To put it simply, the WvW tourney is just a big joke to distract the people who actually WvW seriously and it’s become clear after two years that it’s not going to change for the better any time soon. An easy way to fix this would be to implement new abilities for each class so that the meta is forced to change, but they’ve teased new skills since 2013 and we’re still waiting so there’s no point in holding your breath.

Just on this part.

Even if/when new class abilities are added, it would only be a matter of time before a NEW meta is developed. The meta isn’t decided by Anet or the devs. It’s decided by the players. Of course you can argue that they way combat is, that the meta has been decided by Anet, because thats the most efficient way to play. But the devs made it so that almost any build/gear set can be used. People wanted to move back to a more traditional trinity so they came out with Nomad gear. But it loses almost all DPS, and people cried about it.

As far as the tournament being a joke, or a distraction? Again that is personal opinion, and, as you yourself said, an extreamly biased one at that. I feel that the tournament is to have a more competitive approach to WvW for those that play it, instead of a karma/champ train, that even the WvW forums agree that it’s becoming. Its a way to bring that game mode back to the original vision.

I won’t be playing then.

We’re not dismissing you because we want different things, we’re dismissing you because you’re using your turn at the microphone to say that the game is doomed rather than try to take the opportunity to steer things the way you want them to go.

I would like to see new skills too. I want to make sure it is addressed. I’m not going to insult people to try and get that done.

Maybe the devs can create a new thread to trick the haters into leaving us alone, maybe a thread called “What are we doing wrong?” and just every so often post a quick message just like the above so they feel like they’re still able to abuse the devs.

WvW tourney.

Spvp reward track and skyhammer

South sun cove and dry top

Balance updates all the time, namely April 15.

Moral of this story, stop ignoring facts just because you don’t like them.

WvW tourney? Go talk to the WvW community about their feelings on the WvW tourney and come back to me. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

I think the best part of your argument is “balance updates all the time”… I guess a balance update every 5 months is considered acceptable now-a-days.

I’m not even going to bother with the other two since you’re simply reaching.

Yes because any proof to a person as biased as you are is “reaching”.

As a software engineer (literally) I can tell you you are the most wrong and vitriolic type of client I’ve ever seen. I’ve dealt with my share of kittens too.

WvW tourneys? They don’t like them? Lol? That’s why so many people participated in them? Gave feedback? And anet changed hkw they did tourneys for wvw. Right? Yep. How about edge of the mists? They had full guilds test and give recommendations before final release. Yeah. They do nothing. IM reaching.

Please go back to school this high school nonsense is really bogging me down.

Mark, I have a friend who works as a lead at a major MMO company. It’s his third MMO company (not his fault the first two folded). He designed the game mechanic I most love in the current MMO, which I felt that way about even before learning it was his baby! I’ve heard enough to know just what you have to put up with and how hard it is to soldier on in the face of constant attacks on something you’ve poured your heart into.

So yes, please know that some of us out here know you’ve worked insane hours for the pure love of it, and cared about the quality of all pieces big and small of your product. I may not agree with parts of it coughRNGskinscoughcough but I will never question your dedication or hard work. As I’m not a game designer and even suck at any attempt to min-max a single character, I can’t claim my disagreement with parts of your implementation has nearly as much merit as your choices in how to make it all work.

Thank you, and all your colleagues. You’ve put out a kick-feline product and any other MMO I’ve tried since has had some good parts but a lot of frustration when it doesn’t have the GW2 good parts.

At this point, I think I can’t ask the dev team to do anything except make a valiant effort to ignore posters with nothing but complaints. The biggest fear I have is that we’ll completely lose the ability to communicate with the team because unproductive people keep cluttering the board with complaints about what hasn’t already been done.

Constructive criticism is good, but these polemics about how dissatisfied you are…. save that for another time.

2 years is a long time for an MMO not to release anything.

I think you are mistaken. We have released content and features in the last two years on a fairly regular basis. Just because the content and/or features were things that you personally did not particularly care for doesn’t mean we didn’t release anything.

Please don’t trivialize the efforts of our design and development staff down to “nothing” because you didn’t like it. It’s fine to comment that you didn’t care for what was released, but don’t pretend like we’ve done nothing here for the past two years.

Thank you so much for posting this. It’s 100% true.

Suggestion: Guild Fractals

So far, I really like most of the upcoming changes for the second feature pack – but as the latest blog post shows, there is still no concept for activities for large guilds. The guild missions may be fine for medium sized guilds – but even the guild bounty, which has different ranks, doesn’t really “scale up” beyond a group of 30 players or so. There may be ways to enhance the existing guild missions through various additional challenges, but I’d like to suggest an independent concept which I’m going to call Guild Fractals.

Since the Fractals of the Mist and, even more, the Story Journal, ArenaNet gives us the chance to revisit parts of past events like dungeons and story instances. What’s still missing, are the huge “open world” events, like the Tower of Nightmares, the siege of Lion’s Arch or the Crown Pavillon’s Boss Blitz.

What I’m suggesting is to bring back these events for large guilds and to replace their typical rewards (like toxic spore samples or blade shards) with an own, general currency, similar to Guild Commendations, which then can be used to purchase rewards.

This would not only preserve the already created (and otherwisely thrown away) content, it would also give back value to merits and influence. My idea would be to create a new guild upgrades and consumables for each of these Guild Fractals and let these consumables work like time tokens for custom arenas (probably per hour, instead of per day).

I think the implementation of such a feature would give a huge boost to large guilds, as it would finally give them the chance to organize and beat really big events, a challenge to organization and teamplay. Sure, we’ve got Tequatl and we’ve got the Triple Trouble. But on the one hand, there’s a huge lack of diversity and on the other hand these things are mereley large guild-organized events. What I dream of are large guild events!

And, last but not least: Many of these past events have been pretty good farm spots. I don’t want to suggest to give large guilds (and large guilds alone) the opportunity to farm champions and such more efficiently than in the open world, but I like the idea of giving these farm-oriented players an opportunity to team up and be on their own. Blix and Queensdale have shown what happens when “farmers” and “casuals” clash, so I think it might be good to create an alternative to the traditional open world farm zerg.

So: What do you think? Is this a good idea or the worst you have ever heard of? Let me know!

Disclaimer: This isn’t the most inventive of all ideas and I’m pretty sure I’m not the first thinking or posting about it. If the topic has already been discussed I’d be thankful for a link!

Okay everyone, calm down. Let’s discuss what a Feature Pack is supposed to mean in the context of a video game.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/feature

4: a special attraction: as

a : a featured motion picture
b : a featured article, story, or department in a newspaper or magazine
c : something offered to the public or advertised as particularly attractive <one of the car’s most popular features>

It’s obviously this definition, specifically C.

Now, let’s see what has been shown so far, and which “attractions” are considered features.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/feature-packs/

World vs. World Fall Tournament 2014
World Tournament Series
Glorious Armor Reward Track
Commander Tags
Golem Mastery
Siege Disabler
Megaserver Guild Updates
…and there’s still 2 more weeks of announcements.

Feature Packs does not necessarily mean Content Packs.
I’m just trying to put this in perspective.

Most of the items you listed off that aren’t in this update are because they are content. This is not a content update, this is a feature pack. Content updates usually, but not exclusively, take the forum of living world updates or festivals.

You realize almost no one actually cares about that other stuff, right?

We want more content.

That’s the bottom line.

I’ll understand if you can’t deliver – but you should tell us now.

Stop giving us the runaround.

Either you can deliver more content (new maps, new dungeons, new class, new weapons, new playable race, new skills) or you cannot deliver more content.

We want an expansion, not necessarily more LS (not to say that LS should be abandoned – just that it does not substitute for the content we want).

So, that’s where we stand – either tell us more content is coming, or tell us it isn’t coming.

It’s a very simple question to answer.

Please do not act or speak like you’re speaking for the entirety of the player base. If that is your (and possibly your friends’) opinion, say so as well.

Actually, it’s obvious from the reaction of the player base.

Entire Guilds quitting, people leaving the game. Uproar on the forums.

The number of people who are happy with this game are in the minority.

I don’t know about you but whenever I play the game there really isn’t a shortage of people playing and enjoying the game. So no, uproar in the forums is not an obvious indication of the reaction of the player base.

People need to lighten up – this ‘Entitled’ mentality of posters on this forum does not help their cause with the developers.

It’s actually people like you who are doing the most harm.

Nope.

Stop crying. Start listening. The devs are here (it’s like Christmas for those of us who have been here for a year +) stop berating them. Start listening. They aren’t going to respond to hostility or unconstructive behavior.

I would prefer making a list, then have a vote, and you pick one from the top 3 or 5 (bit depending on the size of the list). Or you come with a list and we vote for 1… either would work.

As far as the current options go, I see the following ‘problems’:
1. You pick something we think isn’t appropriate right now, we get off on a wrong start.
2. We pick something you are not ready to talk about, we get off on the wrong start.

So best we find an intermediate way, where we make sure it’s something you want to talk about, and something we think we should talk about. The best way would likely be, we make a bit list, you pick 10, we vote on the actual one. That way we all are assured getting off on the right start.

We are peace, we are war. We are how we treat each other and nothing more…

Hi All,

The CDI is starting up again. How would you like the topic/s to be chosen for this round.

Here are you options for now:

1: Anet chooses.
2: You list your number 1 topic and the one with the must number of votes wins.

I’ve been reading this thread and am interested in seeing the CDI’s finally return. But, I have a bit of a tangent: If CDI’s are returning, what about Dolyak Express? They were usually small, but I enjoyed that extra bit of info we got from them.

The Community Team has been discussing the return of the Dolyak Express as another means of providing information to you all.

If others are not familiar with this, it’s essentially a regular “interview”/Q&A with the development team, with questions proposed by the community on the official forums.

The Dolyak Express was then translated into the other three languages we support so that the entire Guild Wars 2 community could benefit from the information. As you know, the CDI can only take place on the English forums, since our developers only speak English. One of the advantages of the Dolyak Express is that it reaches the German, French, and Spanish communities, which are all extremely important to us as well.

BIG Commander "system" update.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: agenciq.8043

Hello.

To make it easy for everyone and anet I made an info-graphic about the upcoming commander changes. Enjoy!

TADA!: http://i.imgur.com/CHDEQub.jpg

Before reading the rest of my post, please check the graphic first as I will refer to it.

So, first I don’t really understand why the merged topic exists only in WvW section. I know that commanders are crucial to that part of the game but what about all of the ones commanding on Tequatls and Wurms?

I always thought that anet actually made the commander character bound for exactly this reason (check the graphic) but since the announcement I’m starting to think that it just turned out this way when they made the game. period.

Please do not call it a “system”. How can you call an icon above your head which gives you no useful things whatsoever except showing your position on map a system! I mean like.. really? Just to compare, anyone there in your office checked out “Battlefield 2” years ago? (I know, its an oldie…) That game had a commander SYSTEM.

For all of you saying “just join squad you won’t see other tags blah blah blah” Just woah, chill. Apparently you are one of those LA commanders and you never commanded with random people did you huh? Like they will listen yeah maybe 1% of them will.

I have 4 commander tags. Like many other people who actually use them for something. Will we be able to get a refund for 3 commander tags? You know… since all those people who are now rushing to buy one for only 100g will get a FREE upgrade? (Can you feel that rage if we won’t? I can see people leaving this game.)

OK, enough ranting! How about some SOLUTIONSSSSS…..

Everyone with 1 commander tag -> should still have character bound tag with only blue color (old system) with ability of purchasing the UPGRADE book for additional 200 gold to be enrolled into the new system. OR get a refund and no tag.
Everyone with 2 commander tags -> should still have character bound tag with only blue color (old system) with ability of purchasing the UPGRADE book for additional 100 gold to be enrolled into the new system. OR get a refund and no tag.
Everyone with 3 commander tags -> should be upgraded to the new system.
Everyone with 4 and more tags -> Should be able to get a refund for every next commander tag after the 3rd one. OR be acknowledged for all our hard work and get extra colors.

IF people with only one commander tag will get a full upgrade to the new system where some of us paid 300g and more and we wont be allowed to get a refund… well then. Nice way to treat your players anet! I mean really, kudos to you! You sound like reasonable people! I’d love to have friends like that. honest.

Poor choice of wording on Anet’s part. “Absolutely,” negates the disclaimer, but was probably used in error.
