I play GW2 from first day of it release and I love it to this day. I love this world, quest system, hard and easy dungeons, awesome community etc. I was thrilled when I first saw new temporary content (Halloween) – and I liked it.
But with new and new addon to game every two week I dread the time when I cant play and miss something from game I love so much. I know i will not miss skins or reward so much. But I will miss thing which cant be replace – actual play of content and achivments for it.
So I wanna ask can we – players, which simply cant play for several weeks in year, somehow get those achivs we miss some day? Or can you stop bringing new achivs with new content? Make rewards -that ok, but dont push people to “you must be here or you miss something you can never ever get – and there will be constant remainder of it in achivs tables”
Sorry for grammer
I had to throw it out because I didn’t have enough slots even though I wanted to keep it pretty badly but these days I am at that point where anything completely unnecessary and cannot stack in my storage is just too much.
It’d be nice if they gave us a collection window for “memoir” type stuff, if they are going to do this.
Also, noticed you can’t cancel out of it if you turn it on by mistake.
Personally I think the final reward for a Living Story arc should be a ticket that lets you claim any one of the other rewards, plus one special but largely cosmetic reward for people who got all the rest by other means.
So for example in this case instead of Marjory’s Journal we’d get a ticket that lets us choose one of the following:
Holographic Wings
Shatterer Wings
Jade Weapon Ticket
Dragon Helm Pack (Gift of the Dragon Bash)
Mini Racing Moa
Holographic Risen Knight
Or Marjory’s Journal
(I haven’t included items that can be bought directly from the gem store because if you want them you can already just buy them, so it’d be a bit pointless.)
The fact that this ticket would only be obtainable at/towards the end of the event, and the fact that you can only get one, would encourage people to still try and get the rewards through normal means, but it would provide a back-up for people who missed something and reduce the chance of people ending up with a bank full of special one-time items we don’t want to use but don’t want to destroy because it seems like a waste.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I’m excited to finally see interesting characters that have some attitude. Finally a story with a bit of an edge. Assassinations, people dying. I love it! Where was this writing throughout the personal story? We need more of this, this is good stuff.
Let me start by saying that the entire effigy ceremony was excellent. I loved the quick transition between cut scene and playable, where the dialogue continued straight into the game. And the chaos that erupted really had a lot of energy to it. Npc’s running all over the place, orders being yelled, it was great. The timing was good too. No weird pauses in between dialogues, or dialogues overlapping. It all ran smooth and felt fast paced. I totally got into the experience.
This only improved with the new cut scene where we meet Marjory. I love the style of the cut scene, and it feels a lot like the old cut scenes from Thief the dark project. It is great to see this style again. I also noticed how no 3d models were used, which always was an odd mix in the personal story. By making the entire cut scene 2d, including characters, it just looks way better. The dialogues also have a lot more humor to them, and I really enjoyed the film-noir feel of it all.
Kasmeer to me is a bit of an enjoyable airhead. I wonder if perhaps that is just on the surface. Maybe she is really a lot more clever than people assume. But it is just funny when ever she shows up. She is a character I enjoy, maybe for all the wrong reasons.
I never liked Logan, because he just has no personality what so ever. But surround him with characters that ARE interesting, and he becomes tolerable.
But then comes the investigation, and again this is such a strong plot-driven experience. This is what I wanted to see with the living story. Twists and turns, murder and mystery. Keep it up. I’m looking forward to seeing more. Now hopefully it won’t get predictable with Mai Trin being the villain. Because that would be way too easy. I hope it is a distraction, and in a twist it turns out she isn’t a villain at all.
Let me also say that it is great to get some more use out of Divinity’s Reach. That city needs more adventures, and it is great to see the story take us into the darker corners of it. I’m hoping the next installment of the investigation takes us further around the city, to many new places we haven’t been before.

The letters are actually singed with ____E
So it seems to me that his/her name ends with an E, and the first mail is saying that he/she can’t go to to lion’s arch cause ‘Circumstances prevent it’. So Ellen seems out of sight.
There is nobody in Destiny’s edge except Rytlock Brimston*e* and Caith*e*. but the writting style is not them. Caithe would be much more enthousiastic bout it and rytlock would order you.
So lets look into the mails further:
‘You may not know me, but I know you’ – so anyone you met during the parts of the main story that are the same as for others or in dungeons or in the living story so far are out . This include (thank god) Trahearn*e*.
’ I’ve heard whispers about a threat to the Ship’s Council’ This might indicate a member of the order of whispers.
’ I’d intervene myself, but circumstances prevent it.’ So there are reasons why this person can’t go to lion’s arch.
‘The situation has worsened. One of the Lion’s Arch councillors, Theo Ashford, has succumbed to his wounds. The Lionguard is keeping the new quiet while the festival continues, but they’re overwhelmed trying to maintain security in the city. At this very moment, a killer walks free, and this cannot be allowed.’
So the person gets information pretty soon and has inside information in the council (again pointing into the direction of the order of whispers).
’ you’ll find one of the best investigative minds in Tyria, Marjory Delaqua. She will need your help to find those behind the councillor’s death. Tell her E sent you’
Marjory knows who it is, and more important knows why this person is hiding his/her identity.
My money is actually on Demmi Beetlestone.
She is currently in the chantry of whispers still hiding for her dad. Very likely she still has ties with old friends in Divinity’s reach, wich are most likely nobels like lady kashmeer (wich would explain here presence). She obvious can’t show her face in Lion’s Arch. You might know her or you might know her not cause of the story and she has access to inside info from the council.
She fits the tale perfectly in my opinion. But then again it can be someone else :P
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Yeah it’s too bad. It is one of those things where they make a fun event but due to a glitch that allows perma-afk other players, if you can call afk playing, just want to mess it up for everyone else because they are inconsiderate.
Just like when all the 80s were camping the holos in starter maps and smashing them before anyone else had a chance.
It’s the same reason people with a cart full of groceries get in the express lane. They think they are the only ones on the planet.
Unfortunately it is very difficult to develop rules/fixes that will completely eliminate the uncanny ability of humans to be inconsiderate of others and discard social norms.
Vote with your wallet, people. Every event that comes by, we have people buying 1000s of [insert RNG box here], then posting their results in threads to complain about chances. You know full well that the chances are gonna be low to ensure artificial rarity that benefits nobody whatsoever, so if you’re against the practice, simply don’t buy the boxes.
I guarantee you, the day RNG boxes stop being profitable is the day that they will no longer be used as a business practice.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rich_Dragon_Coffer/drop_rate
Out of 214 Rich Dragon Coffers opened by 8 different people (not me, haven’t bought any of these) as of now…. 0 tickets.
Even though I don’t intend to buy these, I wouldn’t have imagined the drop rate on the gem coffers could be this horrendous…
If we take that the price of each Rich Dragon Coffer is $1 each at lowest, that’s $214 spent and not even one Dragon’s Jade Claim Ticket? That’s disgusting.
And let’s be honest, the weapon ticket is the only particularly desirable thing in those coffers. Even junk like those mobile consortium tool things and the Karka potions and the Halloween potions are more like a slap in the face than a consolation prize.
Wow… I honestly feel sorry for those 8 people that collectively spent $214 for trash, because it seems like for every person winning out there, there’s another 10 losing as ArenaNet and NCSoft happily rake in the profits.
ArenaNet and NCSoft, this is just wrong. I’m sorry, I didn’t want to badmouth you, and I like this game a lot. But I’ve held out on saying this for long enough. These RNG boxes are a greedy scheme of blatantly misleading marketing and taking advantage of gambling psychology. And I’m glad that I haven’t spent much on these RNG boxes, but I’ve had enough of reading about people getting screwed over when spending large sums of money on these things and getting squat. These are people supporting you with money and it’s like you’re laughing at them since you already know that getting anything of value from these boxes is apparently miniscule.
I had high hopes for the MMO that was trying to eliminate the faults and lame parts of other MMOs and was trying to do things right. But I guess that was just preparation for stuff like this. If I knew that this is what it has to come to in order to keep the servers running, then I wouldn’t have bothered supporting you by buying your stuff on the gem store since it’s obviously just chump change compared to what you make off of luring in gambling addicts. Companies like you, casinos and banks with schemes like you, and the suckers you take advantage of… You are a part of the reason for society’s problems.
I can’t support your gem store like this. I think you’ve already gotten a large enough cut from those people that got suckered into your sickening RNG box scheme. Your weapon designs are getting worse anyway.
Go ahead and blacklist me, watching businesses intentionally doing stuff like this ticks me off.
(edited by Arnekun.6170)
I would buy the tickets for gems if it were possible. I would happily give between 800 and 1000 gems for a weapon skin… But I will never buy boxes, never did. With this drop rate it is a waste of money. So ArenaNet if you want my money make these skins available in gemstore and I will be the happiest little boy in the whole world to pay.
Offtopic: After work it isn’t fun to waste several hours with standing around next to LA fountain… Imho it would be better if we get less but bug-free content.
TUP are always welcome to post in Piken’s thread. They are one of the best guilds out there and some of us like to keep abreast of their endeavours(they being former Piken and nice/friendly).
yea TUP where apparently hardcore Pikeneers, Till they deserted us when the going got tough. Sorry but in my eyes they are just another server hopping [RG] guild and should stick to their own threads.
frequently?
have been reading the forums. I’ve not been keeping count but I’ve opened hundreds, and no ticket.People have opened thousands and no ticket….
Yes, they drop very frequently.
I bought 250 Dragon Coffers on the TP, after opening about 25 I got a ticket ^^
And the person who opened 1000 and got nothing cares to disagree. Welcome to the RNG casino, where the house (anet) refuses to tell you the odds, but why would they when they have all the idiots out there buying up the lotto tickets in droves, and then all the fan boy white knights defending them for this practice. As long as these people exist in the game, Anet will not change its practices.
Or maybe you dont need to feel entitled to complete it this year? In GW1 there were some holiday titles (so like achievements) which were IMPOSSIBLE to complete in one year even if you would play 24 hours while the event was live. I was fine with that. And so I am fine with what they offer now. If you cant grind it now, you can return next year and finish the job. Its not like this thing will be gone forever.
That actually makes sense. I was thinking of it as a one time thing but if they are following their own traditions, such as on their holiday titles, then it’s something they expect people to work toward over time.
It wouldn’t hurt ANet to have someone whose job it is, to clearly explain this sort of thing to players. Whether this is only this year or its every year, so we aren’t speculating in the forum
The mobs should be veterans at least, with a champ here and there, scalable to the amount of people. So that they have time to come and get the loot. These holo mobs are like a bunch of harmless bunnies..
Holo Bunnies? Are you serious? I remember the SAFunBox. Those Bunnies were vicious, and all I had to kill them with was a dull toothpick. These things are so pathetic I could sneeze and not even notice they’d popped.
I’m not sure about Champs. Maybe in the higher areas, but for the majority the areas are lower lvl ones. I know, they provide a challenge to higher lvl characters. I understand. However, on the flip side, do we really need another Champion Krait set loose in the lake, like in Caledon Forest? No one will ever go kill that thing, and it terrorizes every single new player on the map trying to get completion. Hundreds of lvl appropriate-80’s are in that area per day (and that’s a conservative estimate) on every server to kill the Jungle Wurm. No One Kills That Thing. So what now, there would be rampant Holo Champs in the 1-15 and 15-25 areas on top of the ones already there?
I agree with most of the ideas thus far, save adding Champs.
Add Vets, add HP, add scaling, add ‘doors’ or ‘waves’, add collective loot, make them not spawn directly on top of the hockey puck…. Whatever is needed. I just feel that adding Champs in lower lvld areas is throwing just a little more jet fuel to the bonfire than is truly required.
Also, my thoughts on the (not-so-solid) Loss of Community?
I came here from WoW. Specifically for the lure of working together. Or at least not ‘Screw Your Neighbor’. I’d can’t even begin to think of this game ending up like that. It really makes my heart catch. I have no desire at all to go back to that ‘world’ in any way. I do not wish to see the new world of my happiness degenerate into it’s mirror image.
Sorry for the soliloquy. I am done.
Edit:
I lied, I am not done…
Do we even know if the Holo Projector respawns if the mobs aren’t killed? Say they do add a Champ. That Champ isn’t killed. Will that node then become inactive, until such a time that the Champ is killed? What if it wanders away? I know in my workings w it all day, the stupid Abominations and Icebrood Elementals first objective, even under fire… Was to Wander Off. Some got kinda far away, if other mobs (non-Holos) were involved in the fray. So… What then? What if the Champ Holo wanders off, and then has to be hunted down before the Holo will even reset, much less respawn it’s 8min window?

Take away the “a” in the beginning and notice what is spelled. lol
Oh geez. lol
And I still think that simply talking to the campers will help, at least in many cases. Or camping a spawn yourself and then offering to group with people you see around. If you want community, it just seems you’ll have to put some effort in to it this time instead of just the passive sense of community that occurs with, say, dynamic events. At the least, don’t just assume people camping the spawn points are going to be jerks about it before you even bring up the suggestion of working together. Talk to them, give them a chance. I find life tends to go easier that way.
/2cents
In many cases I think that’s fine. The issue is the random person running up, activating the holo emitter, and then killing the mob before anyone can say anything. I’ve had people repeatedly do that to me. Talking to the people that do that has usually resulted in a very rude comment. It’s people like that that this needs to be changed for. Most people are fine with it. It’s just the jerks that run up and steal the kills that are the problem. This is really like resource nodes in other MMOs. Guild Wars 2 is above that kind of approach, IMO.
Same thing happened with the Xmas boxes.. dont QQ about it please
Ash, more rage please. Your angry level is dropping dangerously low.
I said it in another thread— I have no problem waiting and if I see you running I do.. however, if you get there and 1 shot everything before I can even tag it (happened multiple times) I will not wait for you again.
Or you know, they just can make them instanced for every player.
Do not blame the players for their playstyle (as annoying as it is for you), blame the game mechanics.
The game mechanics are what they are, but there’s no reason to screw over other players when it takes a few seconds longer not to.
GoW wanna say tnx for really Epic fights both vs JS and AR on Jade Sae BL this Evening, was alot of really nice fights specially up north of the Map. And alot of fights in the open away from AC’s. Like this match-up alot.
Cheers Rave

Out of 150 crates, I get one ticket on crate 148. Completely unacceptable. I was more upset that I got one at 148 crates than I was excited.
I started playing swtor again a few months ago, and I have to say there crates are waaaaay better than what gw2 provides.
It literally makes me sick to my stomach what bull crap they pulled off with these southsun crates. And to think, today is my first day coming back to gw2 after about 3 months. I doubt I will last more than a few weeks if they pull this same crap with the Dragon Bash.
Hello Jomg, I am the leader of FG. I think we can all agree that neither of us support or endorse the use of cheating. We are not a guild that uses exploits or cheats and you are in-fact the first person to put that to claim with our guild. Feel free to distribute your evidence here publicly on these forums for us to access and judge. You have my word and full confidence that if this is the case those parties involved will be removed from our guild and reported but until then we will await your evidence.
I agree, I think this is the way to go – if you insist on keeping RNG, allow us to attain the items on the TP by having the skins be tradeable.
I’m done with the RNG gambling too
For the Lost Shores event, I was not fortunate enough to obtain any of the exclusive skins via RNG. BUT, I was able to buy skins off the exchange by purchasing gems and converting to gold. Woot! Win, win—I can support the game and get some cool bling. Furthermore, I bought both of Rox’s and Braham’s weapons sets (even though I don’t even have toons to use them yet). Happy camper. But ANet seems to disagree. With the Fused and Sclerite weapons being account bound, I have spent far less money that I would have otherwise.
I cannot bring myself to purchase even one RNG box, but would gladly pony up real dough to buy something outright from the exchange/gem store. Guess I’m not saying anything new here. …Except that I think the RNG is poisoning the community, not just here on the forums but in-game as well. If the Sclerite weapons were even $20 each, the average player would maybe purchase one or two, but never all 10! As for “prestige,” with time, new skins will seem shinier than older skins and there would be a nice spread—not every player would have the same thing.
So, to whom it may concern, I am a loyal player. But I will not gamble with RNG. And since this seems to your favorite modus operandi, I think I’ll take a break from the game and go play a single player game or something. I like Tyria. I’m just not sure about ANet.

3/10 – its below average.
A boring story poorly executed. Bad character development. Boring dungeon (its not dungeon, its a room) Queen karka is just a veteran Karka with more health… boring.
I just killed Zhaitan! a huge undead dragon! and now I’m dealing with employment contracts at a holiday resort, and trying to keep the peace between staff and their employers. Some guy Canach is trying to help the staff by stirring up wildlife and killing them – great help that is! In-between all that exciting action I get to help make an omelet and pick some flowers.
step it up Anet, give us something a little more exciting than this…
School of thought #1: “I truly believe with every fiber of my being that everyone in the game is paying attention to my avatar whenever I’m around, and spending time + energy processing how cool my equipment looks. How can they not, for I am the center of the universe and the specialists of snowflakes.”
That’s a lot of judgement for one italicized paragraph.
And yet, disturbingly accurate!
What would be the point if everyone had the same skin?
I really despise people like you, so I’m gonna keep it very short lest we end up trading insults: Having the kittening skin.
I like the skin. I feel comfortable about my kitten size and don’t need something others don’t have to wave around as a vicarious way to feel special. I just want the skin, because I like it. I don’t care if everyone under the sun has it or if I’m the only person ever. I care that I want it. I want to have it for me. Hell, if you tell me I can press one button and everyone, myself included, gets all of those, fine! I’ll press it so fast I’ll leave skid marks on the kittening thing.
@Topic: Over 50 crates, nothing. kitten it. I refuse to dump money into a lottery. If they sell it for gems, I’ll buy it. Not crates.
All they’re really doing is setting people up for the next good MMO. And it sure looks like one is going to show up later this year. I’m certainly going to give it a shot. While I really enjoy GW2, there have been SO MANY annoyances, both big and small, that I’m probably not alone in being ready to jump ship should a worthwhile alternative appear. ANet is acting like having a good number of unhappy players is no big deal, but I’m just thinking there might be a drastic drop in the player population come “mid to late 2013”.
Last November in this post , Nicolle Rodgers made a comment that has stuck with me since. This is not a personal attack on her; I understand it is not a response from her, but a representation of the company’s initiative. I encourage you to read it so that you don’t read my comment here without proper context, but the portion that made it’s mark on me was:
<snip> …You may not get that elusive rare item you hope for, but you will get something you can use. As always, we do not encourage anyone to spend more money in the Gem Store than they are comfortable with.
The first claim is (trivially) true, but that second sentence. What is that?! I’d stopped recommending the game to others since that day but have continued enjoying the game myself – as anyone familiar with my post history understands.
I love the game, but on top of this game is something that strikes me as distinctly “anti-consumer”. (I’ll edit this post later to describe what I mean by that, don’t have time right now)
Anyway, in response to your comment, Toby: I have been actively looking for an exit for a while now and have a game on pre-order. I don’t want to leave, I love this game and the people behind it. However, cash-bound/no upper-limit RNG lockboxes for unreasonable chances (on the average) for desirable items is deeply troubling. I’ve proposed alternatives – see my post history – but the company has its own plans and initiatives. I respect that and bear no ill-will towards them, but I need to be a responsible consumer and make choices that are right for me. “The responsibility falls on me”.
Sorry, have to stop here as I’ve really got to run.

The game is, with rare exception, about absolute reward for time and effort invested. Dungeons are a prime example of this. Want a pretty TA armor skin? Invest enough time in the dungeon to acquire the tokens, and you get it. Want a Fractal Capacitor? Invest time in fractals, accumulate a fixed number of materials, buy/upgrade it. End of story.
With things like Precursors and the RNG chest skins (Fused, Sclerite, Halloween), instead what happens is you invest time, effort, and money ad nauseam for a chance at maybe getting one. It’s a moving target. There is never any guarantee that no matter how much time, effort, and money you invest, that you will get one. And that is kittening stupid. It’s not fun, and it’s not compelling gameplay. And “just not doing it” isn’t a good reason to absolve Anet of making unfun, uncompelling choices.
Painbow.6059: Ignore what anyone else who doesn’t agree with me has said because its wrong.
(edited by foofad.5162)
Bought 30 crates with 3,600 gems at the start of this, I knew it was going to be a failure, but still, what I am more surprised about is that a friend of mine after 200+ chest farmed, got 0 skins.
Totally horrible how you are doing to get money out of the gem store. Your community asked you to please not do that, and still from time to time you continue with it, gives you way more money I assume.
Please do as the Rox and Braham skins (Christmas also), I loved the Mace & Shield and expended 1200 gems, without hesitation (If they are worth it, people will buy them).
Solution: Ticket in Gem Store for 600 gems, you get 1 ticket exchange it for any weapon on a merchant. I guess you’ll still make enough money and stop this nonsense.
Personally I don’t even find the Sclerite weapons all that interesting. I mean they blinking eye is nice (in a creepy way), but the rest is a little meh.
If anything, they should have looked even more organic with wiggling tentacles to match the Sclerite back item!
However, from my perspective ArenaNet should seriously reconsider these constant RNG boxes. It would have been a better policy towards your customers to have these weapon skins for a fixed price in gems at the Store directly (just like you did with the Rox and Braham skins) instead of these RNG boxes where you try and tempt people to pay lots of money for a chance at a skin.
(edited by Alur.7510)
I honestly don’t know what to do here.. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a random chance, so I’m continuing to farm the crates – i’m at 60 crates without a single ticket.
At this rate who knows if I’ll get one before they remove it entirely.
Also with the introduction of those stupid exotic rings and accessories, the drop rate of the tickets has gone down. Now when I get a wooden box that usually has a southsun crate, it’s usually one of the exotics.
If I put this much effort into this and can’t get a ticket by the time the event closes simply due to terrible luck in RNG, I’m going to be REALLY kitten ed. There’s literally nothing I can do if I just continue to get bad luck.
And before all of you trolls jump on and say “you don’t HAVE to get the weapon skin you know..” – well, I want one, so that’s the whole reason for the gripe.
