Kabooooooooomfellow | Engineer
[KA] Karma | Crystal Desert
This is in response to the dynamic event “Escort Warmaster Leddron and his team to Zho’qafa Catacombs.” I really enjoy doing this questline, but apparently my server does not, so I am constantly solo’ing it. It takes quite a bit of time, and since the Jan update it has become increasingly frustrating. The reason for this is the very first Champ. Risen Abomination you encounter can break the fight at almost anytime due to his rush attack he was given. Even scaled for 1-3 people he has a rather large amount of hp, and this takes a bit of time to whittle down. Now on top of the adds(which I dont mind, its a fun fight solo), I now have to contend with a terrible rush attack that changes paths at multiple times for no reason(Ive had him literally go in a V shape during the rush, quite constantly). This causes a hugely annoying problem when he doesn’t run into a wall in the valley and runs WAAAAAY off, therefore resetting himself back to 100% hp and causing my asura warrior to shout things he didn’t learn in Rata Sum. I dont want the damage nerfed or anything of that nature, but it would be awesome if there could be a max distance he can rush before not hitting anything; somewhere between the range of 1 and “not resettng the encounter” would suffice. I know this isn’t a high priority, but it’s really taking the fun out of this questline. Thanks.
1. Its charge attack is almost instant and therefore, gives players almost no time to react.
2. Its charging distance causes it to automatically venture much further than its spawn point and wondering area which causes it to become invulnerable until it moves back to said spawn point.
3. During this “post charge” moment, it’s possible that it begins to heal up.
4. Given how the abomination charges A LOT and causes itself to become invulnerable a lot, this drastically delays the fight and at times, causes an inadvertent health “reset” of sorts.
Edit: This Champion Undead Abomination is fought during the DE in Cursed Shore after Plinx’s chain. I don’t know if other champions abominations have this issue, but I thought I’d highlight a specific case and maybe get it examined.

we get it guys grenade or die amirite .. if you aren’t grenade then you are playing the engineer wrong. so all of us should respec into the 100nade spec or else we suck.
not everyone wants to be the cookie cutter grenade engineer so stop saying to pick the kitten trait up.
I’ve decided all the arguments against the new dailies (except the broken ones) are ridiculous.
If any of these were enacted along with the previous set, when dailies went live, no one would say a word. But if they were introduced yesterday, the forums would be like:
Gather from 20 nodes makes me spend money on harvesting tools! Why anet!!
15 Different slayings? Man, you might have to zone!
5 Events? I hate Events, why isn’t Anet catering to ME!
Kill 60 somethings, that’s way to excessive, it’s not like this a game where I kill things!
It’s why we can’t have nice things, and why people just like to complain.
Here’s the revised engineer patch changes for people not quite getting it.
+ Engineer kits now benefit from weapon stats.
+ Kits are now scaled to be capable of dealing the same level of damage as Exotic weaponry, in an effort to make them more lovable for endgame.
+ Healing Turret’s regen bug was fixed, making it pretty much the best heal in the game.
+ Turret conditions and boos are now scaled to player stats. That’s right, turrets got a little bit better.
+ Hair Trigger works as intended, which means an overall recharge increase across the board.
+ Incendiary ammo works a little more reliably.
+ Throw Mine benefits from recharge reduction, making it even more fun than before.
+ Other small bug fixes you probably didn’t notice too often before.
What’s this mean?
+ Kits are awesomer, including ye ole Grenade Kit.
+ Turrets may no longer fated to only be part of the occasional Static Discharge build.
+ Healing Turret will now make a certain player drool over it’s new awesomeness, with potential for embarrassing moments of “squee-ing.”
+ Engineers got buffed up, and people can stop saying that ANet doesn’t care about us. Seriously. This is our happy patch of victory and good things to come.
All shall now know the full might of the Pax Engineerica!

Only an engineer, don’t worry.
Still watching over the bug list. Engineer damage decreased by 33% to compensate for this.
Let me explain to you why you cannot guest on worlds in another region.
There are two databases: European player data is stored in our European datacenter, American player data is stored in our American datacenter. This is to ensure that people in these regions can still properly play in case there is an issue with the connection between the datacenters.
When you do a world transfer from the US to the EU (and vice versa) your player data is transferred from one datacenter to the other. This is not the case with guesting, as you are still “registered” on your home world.
I understand that some of you are disappointed that you cannot guest on worlds in another region, but considering the complexity of internet routing, our main priority is to ensure that players have as much of an uninterrupted game experience as possible, which is the reason why we have two datacenters. On another note: I will try to get an answer to the guild influence question that has been posted a couple of times.
Thanks for the update. Is there any reason why that data cant be copied across until the guesting is complete. Just like server moves?
As mentioned above, many of us would rather wait 5 mins for a copy and have a little more ping than to have a flat out never.
In the meantime, before the patch comes out that introduces this, you could always move your account to a different data center so that this is no longer an issue. They recently increased server population limits to ease world transferring in these last days when it is free.
So, if you PAY you can fully transfer to another home server in another region , but if you DONT PAY – aka guestsing – you can’t. Woow, really big “technically” issues here called “money” LOL.
While this is great news, my old GW1 alliance was counting on cross-region guesting with roughly half of our alliance being Euros and the rest being Oceanic/NA. The schism this has caused with us being on two different regional servers has been painful and we’ve been quietly waiting for the day when we would finally get to play together again.
Is there any plan to change this in future?
While it’s great that it’s coming. There are some IMHO huge limitations with it.
•Because (different from a world transfer) we are not moving your character between data centers, you may only guest on worlds in the same region as your home world. Players on North American home worlds cannot guest on European worlds or vice versa.
Many of us have friends in different regions around the world, many of us have formed communities and groups of friends from the truely global game that was GW1.
Why can’t you do a copy across region for cross region guesting? Sure we might have to wait a few mins, but thats a whole load better than never..
What was the reason for this limitation? If it was ping then let us decide what’s playable or not. We now have an ‘iron curtain’ between what was once world wide communities of players, who loved to meet up and play as and when they felt like it.
For me and I know many others the ability to meet and play with people from any nation in the world was one of the HUGE things I loved about GW1.
For a game that only yesterday said that community was a focal point, I really can’t see how this can possibly help but drive divisions right across the game.
•You’re eligible to guest on only 2 different worlds at a time. Each time you guest on a world, that world becomes one of your eligible guest worlds for the next 24 hours. After 24 hours, you may choose to guest on a different world. You may log in to any world you are eligible to guest on as many times as you wish with no restriction.
Again. I’m failing to see how any of this is good for the community.
Although I was kinda expecting these limitations, it is deeply disapointing that they are made.

“Miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss…” -Flamethrower
Arena-Net – "We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better…stronger…faster.”
Engineer – Who me!? Yes finally!
Arena-Net – “No, the Warrior”
Engineer – “Ffffffffffffffffff…”
Warrior – “LOL!”
And so
This is the design that Engineers should have. An engineer is defined by his utility skills moreso than any other class. As such, his traits shouldn’t define what utility skills he uses; instead he’ll make his utility skills fit his trait line. Engineers won’t be sidekicks to the other professions, ineffectively filling in one that isn’t present to prop up the others. No, that Engineer is gonna be the one blasting enemies off their feet and bombing their defenses while their allies follow up. Or, they’re the ones that are filling their allies full of offensive steroids to the point where Guardians cry that they’re only the best at defensive support now. And so on.
Charr tech focus also means less drawbacks. Overcharge Shot and Rocket Boots shouldn’t knock you on your butt. The only random thing about elixirs should be whether they give you Might, Fury, or both! none of this “you have a two in 3 chance of getting something helpful for your current predicament. You got Veil? Sorry that incoming barrage of ranged attacks killed you. But you and your allies working around this is skill!”
Bullet Summary
.Charr tech, not any other race’s tech, Charr tech.
.No uneccessary drawbacks or randomness. The Charr test their Ghost Killing Rifles on non-ghost targets to make sure that they’ll work on the most basic level before real combat. Rocket Boots wouldn’t pass that test.
.Utilities adapt to traits, not the other way around.
.Engineers get a clear role as support. We’re not sidekicks, we’re not the leader rallying troops (leave that to guardians), we’re the masterminds behind an operation… or just the cool tech guy who gives everybody the tools they need to survive.
Examples:
-Acidic Elixirs and Accelerant packed turrets merged into one trait that replaces the Reserve mines minor trait. Damage is equivalent to 2 bomb hits.
-Firearm Rifled barrels affect Turret range as well. Turret rifled barrels replaced with another trait.
Anet really needs a design focus for the Engineers and they really need to look no further than their own lore AND representative for the Engineer class: The Charr.
Engineers need a design goal. Look no farther than the Iron Legion
On the Asura:
The engineer is a tech-based class based on Charr technological advances. Outright magical effects on the Engineer are fairly minimal; in fact I’d argue that since the Engineer is the only class that doesn’t have any sort of signet, it’s the class that’s the least reliant on magic. This means that Asuran technology, which is magic based, can be put aside until an expansion allows magic-based technology (or magitek) to be more fully fleshed out. Right now, focusing on Charr efficiency and reliability would be in the best interest of the class as a whole, eliminating the stereotypical “bumbling tinker” and “mad scientist” archetypes that are holding the class back. It’s because of this split attention to cover as many of these archetypes throughout other fiction that Engineers are failing so hard, as opposed to just using their own in-universe example.
In short, too much Goblin/Gnome WoW style engineering. Not enough Charr GUILD WARS lore type engineering.
The Iron Legion
It’s easiest for me to explain how the Iron Legion functions in regards to how it works in tandem with the Blood and Ash Legions in the Iron Legion personal story. It goes like this: If the Ash Legion controls fights through information and sabotage while the Blood Legion does the heavy lifting by damaging enemy forces, the Iron Legion would be the support that supplies the other two with what they need. While not a perfect representation of the Thief and Warrior, I’d argue that support is the direction that Engineers should be focused towards rather than this crappy “Versatile, but not as versatile as Elementalists” position that they’re in.
Anyways, in the story, your character develops the “Ghostbore musket,” a firearm in terms of Engineer traitlines. However, later on in the story you’re asked to supply your ghostbore prototypes to either the Ash or the Blood legion, both of whom are trying to argue that their legion will put the tech to better use.
This is important! Here we essentially have a Thief and Warrior fighting over who gets to have the most Engy support! They want us because we have the tools that allow them to perform their jobs better! And that’s not all. While the Iron legion has the most engineering tech and comes up with the base designs, the other legions also have engineers that adapt the ghostbore musket into a turret and cannon respectively to suit their roles. If the ghostbore musket is a firearm based kit, this means that those engineers are taking a Firearm base and changing it to work with their Invention traits or Explosives traits.
If the Charr race is the class that represents the engineer the most strongly, why is it that Engineers don’t have this kind of adaptability? When an engineer traits for deep elixirs, he basically has to use elixir utilities or waste an inherent bonus of the traitline (boon duration) because hardly any other utilities grant boons. An engineer has to trait specifically for grenades if he wants to get any use out of them at all. This is totally backwards from how they should be behaving in-game and lorewise. An Explosives Engineer with only Elixir utilities? No problem! Now you have an Engineer throwing Explosive elixir bombs at enemies that happen to buff allies that they come into contact with. We need condition removal, but our Alchemy engineer brings only turrets! Oh wait, an alchemy based engineer has turrets also shoot condition removal bullets in addition to their normal attack.
Throughout the history of MMOs there have been various classes/races/builds which are comparitively less powerful or useful than their counterparts. i.e. Balancing is hard. These lesser constructs always have their few vocal supporters that argue that ‘everything is ok’ or ‘we are actually overpowered’.
In some cases these supposedly lesser classes were actually ‘ok’ in the scheme of the greater game and a place was found for them. Of course, if the developers acknowledged the deficiency and changed them in the power structure these advocates weren’t heard from again on the topic. The debate will always exist but these threads provide a good base.
What I have found however is that when a number of players display their frustration about their place in the game and they provide analysis concerning the relative power or usefulness of the class over the general population their argument is not refuted by a personal experience. “Well I can do this with my engy..” or “I can kill everyone..” are not substantial arguments. While personal experience is valid it isn’t a way to provide analysis of the class for a general population.
Some might say that the class is meant for the experienced, dedicated or well financed player. In that case, make your point known, as it may be a valid one, but it isn’t what the OP was arguing at all. The ‘Learn to play’ argument can be applied to every class so essentially what you are saying is that the engineer requires more work and dedication to achieve base results. Again, a poor argument concerning the OP’s premise.
Mostly what these class discussions bring on that count is people showing up to say “Look what I can do..” without providing any relevant reasoning. Debate the relative power or place in the class structure of the engineer for the general population or declare your point that it is a ‘learn to play’ issue for an ‘advanced’ class.
Not quite an engineer quote.
Mongol General: Hao! Dai ye! We won again! This is good, but what is best in life?
Dev1: The open steppe, fleet horse, falcons at your wrist, and the wind in your hair.
Mongol General: Wrong! Dev2! What is best in life?
Dev2: To crush your engineers, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their mini pets.
Mongol General: That is good! That is good.
Does ANET actually browse these forums and look at all these problems we posted? I wonder..
I’d rather ANet ignore warriors for the time being and focus on classes that need it, like Ranger and Engineer.
I believe this is in the spirit of the thread.
Seems like a lot of you are doing it wrong.
Just because you’re not good at a class doesn’t make it bad. It makes you bad. Go play your “easy mode” warrior and thief.
Look, the very fact you admit that the Warrior and Thief can do bigger and better things with less effort is the problem. Those classes are where they should be; Engineer is not. End of discussion.
There isn’t some special medal you get at the end of the day that says, “Congratulations you played Engineer and We All Know That’s Rough.” There is Glory, there are Kills, there is your server’s WvW rank, there is your PvE progression, and there is you having fun.
If you have fun playing Engineer, for whatever reason… Great? But please don’t try to take that feeling of satisfaction as a sign that the class is okay. Because that sense of satisfaction you feel is what you have, but by your own admission its not a class that is directly competitive.
it’s still a new game especially considering anet spent their time during the holidays working on holiday events for obvious business reasons and taking vacation like real people do.
And we all appreciate that. And we all realize that the game is new and it’s certainly in a better play balance state than WoW was within year 1.
But that doesn’t mean we’re going to call the Engineer anything but a deficient class. If we don’t complain, no one will. Because if Anet isn’t aware of the problem then the L80 engineers we have cooling their heels will be sitting there mocking us for wasting time on them.
Engineer is not an easy class to play. I am constantly switching kits and lining up combos…
I cut this off because it’s so boring and predictable. Congratulations, you’re a good player. You can play most classes and do well against bad players. And you know what? Honestly good players are rare, so you probably only seldom meet your equal.
So let’s pretend that everything you’re saying is true and you’re awesome: none of that matters. What the engineer is right now, and its class design, is not competitive. And while you may spend your time patting your back for succeeding with engineer, the vast majority of players (who are all less deserving of oxygen than you, we grant) are not playing engineer. The stats for the class are plummeting, and that’s what Anet has to listen to.
It’s Halloween all over again. I have nearly 10 of each of the other minipets and have yet to see a single mini Snowman. Bought 10$ more of gems for some more boxes again tonight and this time it was just a ton of tonics and presents (a.k.a sweaters socks and hats).
Meanwhile, my friend has ~20 of each pet and can’t send me a single snowman because they’re account bound. I’m not spending another cent on gems because I know I won’t get it if after 50$ I haven’t already gotten it.
Is there any plan to make these pets from the boxes tradable? Because this is a bit obnoxious.
The only problem with GW2 is people like you.
I’m glad you have learned your lesson but you’ve done so much damage to the game now that Anet will probably just continue with this farcical excuse for content for the foreseeable future.
What happens when the next “holiday” content is released and they have a new mini that you just HAVE to have. Will you say to yourself ’I’ll just spend 20$ on keys" ?
Think of the amount of genuine content they could have released instead of putting all the dev time into new minis and costumes. More development time could of been spent on squashing bugs, fixing broken content and balancing classes.
But NOOOO, because the sheeple in the world and the Pokemon kittenen mentatlity, the genuine gamers, the people who actually want to game, and help develop the communities of the game… we have to suffer.
If I had one wish this Christmas (and if that fat, pagan, red dressed effigy of corporate greed actually existed), it would be for the GW2 community to STOP BUYING KEYS kitten img src="/include/images/smilies/smile.png" />
Cheers
Quoting myself for truth…..
As long as people support RNG, Anet will keep useing it.
If you bought a bunch a chests, or threw things into the Forge hoping to win, and then came here to complain after you didn’t get what you wanted…. It’s YOUR FAULT.
You already voted IN FAVOR of RNG with your wallet. Coming here to complain after the fact is pointless.
Just remember next time, if you don’t like RNG, don’t support it in game. That’s the only way to stop ANet from using it in the future.
(edited by Raincrow.1840)
If your solution to the problem is to throw more money at it, I don’t see where the incentive is for the problem to be fixed on the developer’s end.
I admit things like the swap bug are serious issues on the list, but really, i love this class.
I have no issue in 1 on 1 pVp although guards tend to take me down (mesmers and theives though do not, usually…). But I play a lot of PvE, and solo is great and grouped I feel soo valuable; an ele may be squishy, but an ele with a good warrior and some coordination is killer. An engineer may get overwhelmed, but an engi with a warrior is a force to be reckoned with! Two warriors with different builds make for a synergy that leaves even destroyer nests trembling.
I’v tried all kinds of combos and classes but warrior, which I never really considered something I wanted to pursue, turned out to be more addictive than tetris with a full crack pipe.
Hats off to anet, warrior does it for me. I’d like to see some new skins but otherwise BOOYAH!
2, definitely. Props for the Skritt quote, but would you please explain me why they say that? Never understood that.
You have to make some inferences. We can assume that Toxx (Gladdos) told the skritt they could participate in Wintersday or something of that nature by doing what they did, and obviously when they got turned into princess dolls, that ruined Wintersday for them. Clever scheme by Gladdos to make more princess dolls? Actually attempting to spread cheer? Who knows.

Downed State #2 – Grappling hook has been given a 10 yard range increase but no longer interrupts attacks to compensate.
Fumigates damage has been increased by 2% but now poisons the Engineer!
Flame Blast’s damage has been increased by 1% but now gives enemies a 20 second retaliation buff!
Elixir U now provides the engineer with Swiftness instead of Quickness, the debuffs are still present however as this on demand buff is too powerful.
The Engineer is now damaged by his own Bombs from Bomb Kit to make up for the power of Elixir Infused Bombs.
The Engineer is now damaged by his own Grenades; Grenade damage decreased by 33% to compensate.
and finally if u have so much ways of explaining why a engineer fails in these areas please go out with you engineer fraps some kitten and prove that the engineer is under par, till then you clearly dont know what your doing with the engineer and therefore are not a skilled player
p.s grenade kits are better then they were before stop rolling with the meta and u will see why
Or you could show people how the engineer is awesome, the way Sheobix and Nemesis are doing for Necromancers. Let’s be honest here: very few people believe what you’re saying. And you’re asking someone else to prove a negative, which is all but impossible.
So you laid down some big talk there and unlike us you can prove a positive: that the Engineer is up to snuff.
I eagerly await your videos. Because I gotta be honest, it feels like lately every video in this forum I see is like extremely underwhelming footage of useless stuff like random wvw solos and usually sort of mediocre matches.
