We are the people who agree with this thread. Those who do not are free to disagree or even better start a thread that states you like the character and want more. Let your opinion be heard to the Devs.
In the next living story we’ll discover it was scarlet who woke primordius and elder dragons with her terrible bad accent. We’ll also discover it was scarlet who drove abbadon insane. It was also scarlet who made vhizer khilbron sink orr, and she offhandedly drove all 5 human gods off of tyria.
Seriously kill this (or let us kill this) worthless random character already. You already had five more dragon epic villains (Primordus, Jormag, Kralkatorrik, Deep-sea dragon, Jungle dragon) another undead (Palawa Joko) and a very easily spinnable xenophobic emperor of cantha to relate the living story to since zaithan is dead. All of them are much less annoying, pointless, and lore contradicting.
Take your pick, I don’t care which, but drop scarlet briar off a cliff already.

signed. I do not have much to add. I didn’t mind her at first like the OP said. I’ve had enough. Sadly she isn’t the only problem with these updates but she’s a big problem.

Do they understand that when people used to talk about adding Scarlet into Thaumanova, it was a hyperbolic remark about their overuse of the character, and not something they should actually even remotely entertain the idea of doing?
About the only way they can salvage the lore at this point is to 1) sack everyone on the writing team that doesn’t understand how terrible Scarlet is as a “character” or even as a plot device, and 2) have your Order mentor wake you up and tell you that you got a terrible concussion in the middle of the first battle at Claw Island and hallucinated the rest of the Personal Story and Living Story.

I am utterly disgusted with Arena Net’s writers at the moment.
I voted for Evon, but I was able to see the great idea behind Thaumanova so I was fine to have it as a fractal. Unfortunately instead of great lore and clever writing, we get Scarlet. I completely detest Scarlet, not because she is a great villain but because she is utter trash ruining a game I enjoy, Arena Net seriously needs to rethink including her, every person I talk to in game has had enough of her.
Her inclusion in the Thaumanova story felt like Arena Nets writers took offence to everyone’s general dislike to her and her, so they included her in hateful spite.
I love Guild Wars and have no intention of quitting but as punishment for including her I shall not buy anything from the Black Lion Trading Company for this month. Or any other months that she makes an appearance in the Living Story. This may not mean much being only one person but at least I am making a stand that affects you as a company.

I think perhaps the most telling thing about this thread is how little anyone defends Scarlet in it. Anything else about this is obviously subjective – but nobody is defending her.
Nobody, not a single person I’ve seen in this thread, is speaking up to say “Hey, I like her.”
If that isn’t a warning sign, I don’t know what is.

Totally. If this was a TV show, it would’ve been cancelled several months ago. Or at least, the studio would’ve fired the director and bought in someone new.

Can you retcon the retcon and get rid of Scarlett? Like maybe a hallucination from the Krait / Nightmare Court alliance?
I was digging the Living Story, even through its hiccups until Scarlett showed up to have retroactively masterminded it all.
I hate Scarlett as a concept and as a character. We could have had another Palawa Joko or even Abaddon, but instead we got what? A second rate Harley Quinn without a Joker to giver her a reason for existing.
Scarlett is a bad character and she is not written in an interesting way. She has no reason for existing. If she does have a reason, you are doing a very good job of not foreshadowing or dropping hints other than “LOL she so crazy cause she saw too much.”
Don’t pull the puppet master crap and say “Oh, well that’s exactly how we want you to see her until the big reveal.” If that is your opinion, then you don’t know how to write very well and you are doing a bad job. Nobody likes her. Nobody relates to her.
Do you have writers for the Living Story or are your developers just doing double duty? You need dedicated writers if you want to tell an overarching and compelling story.
Scarlett is just the worst solution to the problem of “oh we did this stuff for no reason I guess we better make up a reason.”
Scarlett is so bad that in a lesser game, I would just quit playing. But, thankfully, Guild Wars 2 has a lot more going for it than the Living Story. Playing WvWvW with guild mates, or just doing PvE world exploration is worth putting up with the ridiculousness that is Scarlett.
From all the Scarlet trash ANet throws at us, I didn’t expect such a move, I was expecting something more elaborate, something more serious but eventually it was a major let down, worse than one of Uwe Boll’s game to movie adaptations.
This update was my last straw. I loved GW1 (still do) for it’s fantasy setting, it’s amazing lore and all. GW2 was supposed to be the follow up with rise of orr, awakening of dragons, birth of sylvari and all and it could have been a nice story, but now for us Tyrians we’re trapped in Scarlet Land.
If ANet’s creativity and storytelling goes as far as including the same character over and over with reskinned living story, then I have my doubts how much longer I’ll continue playing.
What happened to the rest of the dragons? – I’m pretty sure the community that cares about lore want to know about this, not another episode of “What’s Scarlet cooking next”.
