perfect 5 man team = 5 warriors, any spec, any weapon, faceroll = win.
Disagree especially since this is 5 man team vs 5 man team which happens rarely at least where my server sits. The numbers are usually not even and with your comp the spirit ranger, elementalist, and guardian will take most of the focus while the thief and mesmer dip in and out of invis. If my guild came across your comp the first target would be ranger then the ele if we recoginze your thief is running venom share we kill that since he has none of the usual slippery utilities.

It wouldn’t work. For a start, there would be no way to defend a tower at all as anyone on the wall would be vaporised in about ten seconds.
The only thing that removing downstate would do is mean that zergs win, always and that whoever initiates the attack wins, always.
It would cause cowardice, nobody would take any risks, or engage and the whole wvw idea would simply fall apart only to be replaced by PvDoor.
Removing downstate would completely break this game.
The very notion of it is silly.

Hi everyone,
During the last few weeks, there have been a lot of discussions about YouTube and the hot topic lately has been policies about posting to YouTube video content that contains videogame assets. This situation is continuing to develop and we’ll be monitoring YouTube changes, but we’d like to provide some clarification on the matter of our policies.
To use assets (e.g., screenshots, footage) from our games, any content creator needs to comply with the Guild Wars 2 Terms of Use that are detailed here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-content-terms-of-use/. These rules are pretty explicit and haven’t changed since we put them together. They define what content ArenaNet considers out of line. Content creators are not permitted to use our assets to create a commercial product and use of our assets for non-commercial purposes is permitted. Monetizing a fan-created Guild Wars 2 video on YouTube via its partner program is generally not against these Content Terms of Use, just as serving advertising (Google Ads, for instance) on a fansite is not against the Content Terms of Use.
We actually support people sharing their experiences with our game, such as Let’s Play, guides, reviews, or other types of fan videos on YouTube. We generally do not take any action against YouTube videos using our game assets. We will investigate what’s happening with the PlayNC claims. You can contact us at community@arena.net if you have further questions. We’re also going to start reviewing our policies to make sure they’re clear on where we stand regarding content creation. Keep in mind that this will take quite some time since it involves legal reviews.
Thanks a lot for supporting the Guild Wars 2 community by creating awesome content to show your experiences with the game!

They are gold sinks, and absolutely necessary for a healthy in-game economy.
1. Travelling in the real world is not free
2. To list anything on a real world auction you have to pay a listing fee
3. Usually the ways people are making money is by exploiting systems. Exploiting systems is not playing the game…
4. I agree wholeheartedly with this one…
Not really a favorite, or hated. Maybe most scariest toy?
Princess Dolls. They don’t have faces!
You can skip all initiative regeneration traits now actually for those kind of builds the change is pretty awesome.
Are you saying you don’t need Infusion of Shadow for DD builds now if you chain CnD? If initiative regen is that big, then I’d love to swap in condition cleanse.
Yeah. I swapped out Infusion in favor of Embrace after the patch. The buff is noticeable enough for me. I haven’t missed Infusion at all, and I’m loving the condi clear.
For the specs that made good use of opportunist though, I can see how this change could have hurt those specs.
All I did was ask questions about his result since a wall of math bores me to death.
Then how did you come up with your “redundancy” conclusion if you didn’t even consider the OP’s math or have provided you own math to prove that there’s a redundancy?
If someone is doing the community a disservice, that would be you and Nike don’t you think? Since you both have not provided anything that can help us readers understand what exactly you guys’ are talking about.
The OP provided a lot of disclaimers, you both have no basis to get all worked up.
Instead, write up your own math so that we can compare your number from the OP’s number and leave us decide if there is indeed a redundancy or the whole thing is indeed a waste of time.

PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
Every example he uses take 30 in crit, which makes assassin redundant. Either his math is wrong or its mislabeled.
He acknowledge there something seems to be off.
Ok at some point I think I did something completely wrong, cause wtf, why is assassins winning now? lulz.
However, neither you nor Nike have pointed out where did he go wrong. It would have been more productive of a discussion if you guys have contributed rather than being dismissive.

PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
It’s not melodramatic. He is posting bad analysis that could potentially cost someone hundreds of gold.
Again, let me take your attention to the OP’s post.
This thread is not for the discussion of trait setups or builds btw. This thread is only for discussion about the math behind gear sets, food, sigils and runes.
Your defense is laughable, even in the example he posted with food, signet, banner of Disc he didn’t include traits! He used Toxic oils instead of dungeon food! He is comparing Apples to Oranges in that very example. What kind of person would look at that and defend it as legitimate evidence of anything?
Again, if you read the post, you’ll find this;
This is going to assume youre one of those people running 30 Deadly Arts and 30 Critical Strikes.
My criticism was that he used incomplete and flawed inputs and gets incomplete and flawed outputs.
Again, if you read the post, you’ll find this;
If anyone would like to question this decision, please feel free to do so, and we can compare math between them and… whatever you want later in the thread.
The very things you quoted show that! You are basically pointing out examples of his horrible conclusions. The problem isn’t me failing to read his OP, it’s you failing to understand why the OP’s post is terrible.
Again, if you read the post, you’ll find this;
Ok at some point I think I did something completely wrong, cause wtf, why is assassins winning now? lulz.
Do yourself a favor and read the whole post before you further make yourself look like a donkey.

Good mathematical analysis should have a conclusion that helps the reader make a more informed decision. The OP’s analysis fails on that account.
In the context of end game pve, failing to account for traits/nourishments/utilities and common team buffs (banners, 25 Might, perma-Fury) causes the OP to reach suboptimal gearing conclusions. His bottom line conclusion is that people should buy pieces of assassins gear for their pve Thief, which is objectively incorrect, the result of incomplete or irrelevant analysis. Flawed inputs leads to flawed outputs.
Assassins – Sub Stat Power – DA30 – CS30 – 25 might Stacks – Assassins Signet – Sweet & Spicy Squash Soup – Toxic Oil – 5 Power/1 Precision Infusion
(2019 + 235 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + 100 + (5 * 5)) * ((1 * .36) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .64)) =
7918.4064 DamageStanding next to a banner of discipline w/ fury[/u]
Assassins w/ Curry instead of Squash, 6 Precision infusions
(2019 + 235 + 300 + 250 + (35 * 25) + (5 * 0)) * ((1 * .02) + ((1.5 + 1.19) * .98)) =
9772.1598 Damage
Why is the OP drawing such vocal condemnation?
Because people did not read the whole post?
He is encouraging suboptimal choices which waste resources for casual players who would be mislead. This is a disservice to the community.
The OP provides the information for those who choose to pick up either gear set and I find it very helpful when picking a gear set for my Assassin Thief — however less important for my Power Valkyrie Thief.
Some of us like to support the community and do not want to see such disservices. The costs of Ascended armor is so high for a casual player that a gearing mistake is back-breaking.
There are such thing as target audience and if you’re not one of them, then this information is not for you. The OP specifically said,
“This thread is not for the discussion of trait setups or builds btw.”
“This thread is only for discussion about the math behind gear sets, food, sigils and runes.”
Thus, people posting misleading gearing information about ascended armor are being actively malicious, even if they don’t intend it to be. People who act maliciously and damage the community are not generally treated sympathetically.
Melodramatic much?
If you are being honest, you would have admitted that the only reason you were posting here were to advertise your twitch and did not even bother to respect the OP by reading what he had posted. It’s quite obvious you did not read the OP’s post.

Now it is awesome back again
Indeed, the pistolwhip feels great again. But it’s a bit sad that S/P got so much collateral damage from the nerfs to S/D, i realy don’t like the casttime on infiltrator return :/
The cast time isn’t that big of a deal. If it rooted you? Sure. But it doesn’t. I roll with 2 stun breaks on my S/D or S/P anyway. You just have to learn to not wait until the last possible second to get out of a fire AoE. Cast it a quarter second earlier. Tada.
Greetings, fellow thieves! Keep calm and help me thinking about our builds after the 10 December patch.
Sword/Dagger
Is S/D still viable? I think yes. I tried it in SPVP and yes, that cast time is super annoying but the build is STILL viable. I also think that there are a few changes that might be done for the build, like swapping “Signet Use” for “Practiced Tolerance” if you used to run that, and maybe leaving “Quick Recovery” for something else (not Assassin’s Reward for sure, it would just heal 350 HP every flanking strike+larcenous strike) but might on dodge trait could be an option.
Dagger/Dagger
For some reason, I seriously think that it might be very useful for WvWvW roaming, since we can now swap the “infusion of shadow” trait for Condi Cleanse and/or Blind on stealth. I would like to try it in SPVP too, maybe something like 10 30 10 20 0, or 0 30 20 20 0. I think that it is still relies too much on CnD to be usable in SPVP but meh, let’s try.
Dagger/Pistol
It hasn’t changed. If you didn’t enjoy permastealth, you have been buffed. My 0 10 30 30 0 D/P build has been greatly enhanced, since I can now swap Quick Recovery for Pain Response and Assassin’s reward has been buffed. Other D/P builds, maybe more offensive, can now avoid going more than 15 in acrobatics (maybe stopping at 20 for Pain response could be good) to get more DPS, which really lacks in SPVP.
Pistol/Dagger
It has been greatly buffed. I used to run a 0 0 30 20 20 P/D build, I can now, maybe, drop “Infusion of Shadow” for Blind on stealth/Condi removal, or keep it and spam #3 some more. I don’t think venoms can be implemented in this build. Caltrops/Shadow Refuge/Shadowstep seem much better.
What do you think about venom-share, Sword/Pistol and (lol) Pistol/Pistol?

ArenaNet,
I am sure that over the course of the next week that you will see countless threads popping up complaining about the rewards found in the WvW Season One reward chest. I don’t want to waste your time, but to be blunt something needs to be done. The rewards are… not only underwhelming, but for the health of WvW moving forward I feel that the current reward is inexcusable. Rewards in for events in GW2 (and any game) serve a few key functions:
1. Motivate players to partake in an event.
2. Provide adequate time/reward compensation to players who participate.
3. Grant players a feeling of accomplishment.
The current WvW Season One rewards do none of the above as the same reward for a 7 week undertaking is equal to about 30-40 minutes farming Frostgorge Sound. The implications may be greater than you previously anticipated. The full impact of the lackluster Season One reward should not be underestimated. Many servers in Bronze/Silver league worked diligently to recruit and motivate players who had never participated in the WvW game mode. Given the insignificant current reward getting people to try (and continue to play WvW) will only become harder. If no action is taken, when WvW Season 2 rolls around fewer players will be motivated to participate because the reward is not worth the investment of their time. Furthermore, as I’m sure you can see, the vast majority of the Season One participants feel that the reward was inadequate compared to their time investment. Finally, I think that it is safe to say that the current rewards provide absolutely no sense of accomplishment for anyone.
So, here is my clear and concise recommendation:
Amend the WvW Season One reward chest by providing the following-
1. Provide a unique, worthwhile reward for every player on every server who earned the reward key. Here are some suggestions:
a. An ascended quality back piece with a unique skin that is only awarded at the end of a season. (Think Karka Shell or Fractal Capacitor)
b. Utilize the release of the upcoming ascended armor release and reward players with a single set of ascended armor.
c. A single unique weapon skin (allow each player select one weapon from a set) that is only awarded in the WvW Season chests.
2. Remove the 250 count from the Gold/Silver/Bronze Dolyak finishers and make them permanent until the beginning of Season 2. The top 3 servers in each league should be given the gold for first, silver for second, and bronze for third. Essentially you would be giving 9 servers finishers rather than only 3. Clearly this would provide less insensitive for players to rush to a handful of servers and more intensive for players to participate spread throughout the range of servers so that nobody has to deal with a 4-5 hour queue.
Many are suggesting that we as a community simply accept the current reward and move on. However I would encourage you to consider the long term implications of inadequate rewards on the GW2 playerbase between now and the end of Season 2. ArenaNet has these forums so that the players have a clear channel of communication to the developers. Luckily, ArenaNet does listen and is taking strides at showing that with the Collaborative Discussion as well as removing the Flamekissed Light Armor Skin being removed/reworked. Make your voice heard.

Admittedly I have only levelled a warrior to 80 and got a Elementalist to 35 but I can’t see any class being more fun then a Thief the ability to drop something’s health to 50% (or lower) in 2 hits is just so enjoyable! (normally I hate levelling characters in any game with a passion) it’s still super fun to go against a veteran monster and have to carefully link your skills together to make sure you avoid the right damage and still deal out a nice amount of damage yourself.
I might be a total noob at the game but for anyone who is thinking about levelling a Thief go for it! And hopefully you’ll find it as enjoyable as I do
Also Just want to give a shout out to everyone in game and on the forums who have helped me and answered my rather noobish questions about everything and anything
(My Thief is currently level 31)

Server? We move a lot.
Would you guys still be mad if she showed up under your tree dressed only in a ribbon?
I would likely go blind after my eyes bled out and, after weeks of recovery in a hospital, be transferred to a psychiatric ward where I would be treated for PTSD. My loved ones would come to visit me every week for over a year, weaping and consoling one another as they left, unable to cope with how warped a creature I had become. Eventually, when my scarred psyche reached its breaking point, I would become the image of the monster that appeared under my Wintersday Tree. I would reek havoc across the face of Tyria until I was finally subdued by a band of brave heroes, my body burned and ashes scattered to the wind. Tales of my horrible life would echo throughout eternity as bedtime stories to frighten naughty children. Shiro Tagachi would have nothing compared to me.
And you would be a better living story villain than Scarlet.
^^ This is very true.
Like I said, this year, we find out that Scarlet was the reason Tixx’s workshop went haywire last year.
You dont have to craft them. They are just minimal stronger and you will feel 0 difference. Srsly why are so many people kittening about this? Their is nothing wrong about it.
I liked the way the story of Rox and Braham was done, Scarlett is indeed just chaos, no real story there, absolutely agree.
- – thief is rather easy as other classes
Compare to, say, a warrior? For a new player?
Please.
Only now after about a month do I finally feel like I’m getting comfortable with the class.
OP, give it time.. it does get better.
There are major L2P issues here.
1st wasting your F4
2nd wasting your Blurred Frenzy
3rd no blindness
4th Blink —really?
5th off-hand sword —really?
L2P advice:
1st only use F1 – low CD and stacks confusion – use often
2nd Blurred Frenzy only a Heartseeker – if you insist on using a sword main-hand, but use a torch off-hand
3rd you need blindness – obvious reasons
4th remove Blink and pick up Mirror Images – your build requires more clones and MM is a stun breaker
5th dump the off-hand sword, get a torch for blindness or just pick up a staff if you really want to be highly offensive plus you get Chaos Armor for regen and blindness.
Other preference:
I’d use Null Field over Arcane Thievery. Arcane Thievery is only good in PvE against bosses who stacks boon. In WvW, you’re better off with Null Field.
I like your build — I think I’ll use it for my Mesmer with some tweaking — you just need to pickup the right skills and not waste them. Your build is actually the kind I hate the most as a Thief, so please use it correctly.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.
Dude, you’re an engineer. You can stack insane condition damage very quickly and abuse the full potential of perplexity runes all without even needing to target the individual as you can spam aoe’s/interrupts all day.
Condition damage is currently the most op’d nonsense in the game right now and abused left right and center.
You should be embarrassed to post in here as an engineer asking for thief nerfs with your class capabilities.
practice more. and thief is the worst low lvl chars. they pay off more at higher lvls.
just to put it in perspective. a thief with 0 poitns attriubuted and any other class with 0 points attributed….a thief will almost always lose. all the dmg and init gain/regen comes from allocation points. our builds/survival/dmg is fully dependent.
I really hate Scarlet Briar.
I know there’s lots and lots and lots and lots of good reason as to why everyone hates, but I’m more interested in the logic behind it. That is to say… Can someone explain the logic of using this twig as a villain instead, oh you know, DRAGONS?
