Why 80 players?

I’m willing to bet someday when people get really good at him, less than 80 people will be able to pull it off, that tends to be how anything works in an MMO. It’s balanced for 80 average players though though and scales up into the hundreds because we want to make epic, large scale encounters available to players out in the open world. We’ll have a mix of a lot of different types of encounters as we continue to update our boss and world encounters, but Tequatl specifically is intended to go for the epic scale.

The idea is we’re going to make him hard, and require a lot of players, he needs to have rewards that make that time worthwhile. In the next update the same philosophy will apply to the karka queen, who will get a bump to her rewards as well given her difficulty; her base line player number is much lower than 80.

Extra bonus info: The highest chance of having a rare chance ascended weapon for you is on Tequatl’s daily bonus chest if you defeat him: game on.

Teh descriptions of the fight mention a ton of aoe going on. Does this mean my ranger pet is going to be dead 3 seconds into this fight and leave me doing a fraction of my dps?

Probably.. Like every invasion, my pet needs help. That’s all I hear.

If that chance is less than 5%, delete right now that “bonus info”. Stop making false ilusions… im tired of that…

What number would be satisfactory to you? When you log on you get one in the mail?

Instead of trying to insult him, try reading his statement again, the answer to your question is actually in his statement.

“If the chance is LESS THAN 5%…” “LESS THAN 5%” What number do you think would be acceptable to him, and would that number be anywhere close to “receiving it in mail”?

+1000000 to this. I love your concept of hard earned and unique rewards for the time/effort given. But it’s been poor implementation across the board ever since. This includes the very recent Champion Loot bags and almost all PVE activities be it JPs, dungeons, world bosses, dynamic events. The effort vs reward ratio disparity in the different aspects of the game compared to each other is just so mind boggling no wonder one aspect of the game’s content are so pitifully empty and ignored while the others are farmed to death by zerg trains. I know part of it is the community’s fault also. People who chase shinies will always take the path of least resistance.

Hopeful penguin is hopeful.

Good luck with that, half of the zerg won’t even listen to you trying to help them…

Considering that there will be 80 or more players fighting Tequatl, even a 1% chance is pretty high. You might not get an Ascended weapon but someone probably will.

To be fair, that only matters if the gear is trade-able. If it’s not, then drops other people get effectively do not exist for you. Personally, I hope they can be traded, but I expect otherwise.

You are aware that with this change, Tequatl will go the way of the Karka Queen. People will attempt Tequatl a time or two, fail the event and will never go back to that encounter again. It doesn’t matter what quality of loot he drops. People don’t want to bang their heads against their desks. People want to succeed. WoW tried something very similar with ‘Oondasta’. It was a colossal failure.

So did Rift with one of their colossal enemies before the change to F2P. They wanted to change up the system and make it harder when they had problems with the combat system already in place that they never addressed, it turned into a massive failure if I recall.

I think the age old argument of “fix what’s there now before you bring in something new” can apply this title. Fix boss/champ immunity to CC, fix the condition damage inconsistent damage types, fix the maximum stacks of condition damage, fix healing and you’ll actually have the proposed Arenanet-trinity prior to this boss model being released so that more people will get involved. Most especially we’ll need to see a fix to the rewards system prior as well because when bosses, chests, etc are affected by the loot Wi Flag system or DR nobody wins.

If the odds are .001% normally and they tripple them to an astonishing .003% for this chest… odds are good you’ll still never get one from this. And it’s the daily chest, so you only get one shot at it per day.

IF you get one, then there’s no promise that it will have the stats you want (as I understand, you’ll be able to choose the type of weapon, but not the stats). Given that it’s a once-a-day shot for something that has about a 1 in 5 chance of having the stats you want, I’d say that the “boosted” odds being 5% is actually a good target. That’s if they’re account bound, that is.

From what a number of folks have been able to figure, it’s the CoF p1 baddie ragers who’ve bled over into the open world and not farmers in general. If I want to farm, I stick with champ loops, where the regulars are usually a lot nicer and try to help end the event so they can make more money killing the normal champs. XD

I don’t know what to do about the creeps being rude except to report the really nasty ones, and try to not do events in overflows.

sighs I knew this post would come…

And to think… you havent even tried it yet….

/troll on

no, we have not tried it yet. But if the number of players is the main concern anet has for this encounter, well… would you say insane zerging hasn´t been the focus of quite a few recent additions to the game?

Everyone’s worried about how their computers will handle the 80 players. The real question is how Anet’s servers will handle 80 players. If you’ve been in a big 3-way battle in WvW you’ll know that when this many people get together there is AWFUL skill lag. None of your skills will work — all you’ll have is autoattack.

I hated the hype the guy was giving it before the tequatl showcase, about how it was great and took alot of time and effort and how it will be the NEW release for september. I’m speechless that they try to shove this down our throats as new content.
Brb, releasing a game with broken bosses and then re-release them fixed 1 year later and calling it “new content”.

Economy report missed Celestial gear

Brutaly.6257

Why?
Celestial already have more stats than other items on the same tier, removing a completely useless stat (combat-wise) won’t really change that.

Celestials has more raw stats, that is true. But if you translate those to effective stats, effective power or effective health, you will find that celestials are underpowered compared to mixing other gear types.

MF was the primary stat in them and now when it will be removed i cant find any reason, except curiosity, to ever use them.

Well lack of knowledge is also a reason ofc.

Alot of people grabbed celestial gear because it’s the best you can get if you are looking for more than 3 stats that you get alot of uses from.

I dont care about the magic find I put it on my ele because my ele gets use out of all the stats in some form on a consistant basis. There are alot of people that run celestial and really don’t care about the magic find on it at all.

From this thread I guess there are alot of people that care about the magic find on it too.

Solution? make it magic find account bound so you don’t have to run X with Y character because Z doesn’t have magic find gear. Works for me.

Best troll ever.

ps: dude, is what they re gonna do on 03/09/2013 remove mf and give account mf, starting from 20%mf.

What is the point of Ascended?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Ascended does have its place in fractals. You wouldnt be able to do anything above fotm 10 without it.

That’s only due to artificial mechanics that was introduced only to justify ascended gear and infusions. The fact that they have abandoned their original idea of introducing more similar mechanics to other dungeons and open world is telling.
And the reason for ascended has been directly stated by devs in November – it’s to give a small number of people that went after Legendaries in the first month of the game something to do. And a start of the “item progression” plan.

Actions, not words.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

Tip #1 Get rid of Your wooden PC and buy a decent one that can handle GW2
Tip #2 If You can’t afford the new PC, lower the amount and quality of visible ppl one the screen

I think optimisation of the game is a bigger issue.

My PC is reasonably high-end and can easily run GW2 at 60FPS 1920×1080 at highest settings, but in bigger fights (50+ players) the FPS drops to 15-20 while both the GPU and CPU sit “idle” at 40% and 60-70% respectively.

The PC can handle it, but the game doesn’t want to.

IT’S A SWORD. THEY’RE NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE.

This would be one of those impossible to answer questions. To date, Anet has not released the kind of data the would truly answer the question. We’re left to our various capacities of speculation.

One thing I’ve noticed is a growing, open trash-talking of Anet in map chat. It’s significant in that I’ve played other MMO’s for years and have not witnessed the level of ill will towards a developer that I have here, in-game. And, I’m on one of the more mature, even-handed servers. This can’t bode well for the game long-term in terms of people actively playing the game.

Actually I know quite a few people who have paid a sub and don’t play a game. In fact, I know people who continue to pay for subs for games they don’t play.

Vayne, you are not too complex to understand. The reason why so many, including myself, don’t care your comments seriously isn’t because, as you claim, others see you as someone who thinks ArenaNet can do no mistake. No, it’s something subtler than that.

I went to Guild Wars 2 looking for a fun game. Others came here looking for a way to “work” in order to show off in front of fellow players. Others wanted a place where to socialize with other people, some wanted a place where they could be the annoyance that gank fellow players from the shadows without the chance for a fair fight, and so on.

All those groups are different, but there is one even more different than all of those: the players who came to Guild Wars 2 looking for a life. Those who embrace escapism to an infinite degree.

You talk a lot about your life. We know you are 51 years old, retired despite being relativelly young, and that you spend your days taking care of someone who’s crippled (in some meaning of that work), probably your wife or your yourself. You mentioned in that /age topic that you spend more than 12 hours per day playing this game.

In other words, Guild Wars 2 is your life. You or the person you are stuck with cannot run through a grass plain like the one in Queensdale. You cannot do something productive with your (real) life. GW2 is pretty much everything you have.

That’s why it’s hard to take your opinion seriously. All the “I know a lot of people who like this”, “I have talked with a lot of editors who agree with me”, “everyone in my guild loves that aspect of the game” comments are empty – they are just baseless comments lacking any evidence, from someone who plays this game because he has no other option, not because he simply wants to.

“I think that players are starting to mature past the point of wanting to be on that
treadmill, of being in that obvious pattern of every time I catch up you are going to
put another carrot in front of me” – Mike O’Brien right before Ascended weapons

Seems to be more stabilized active player wise, but growing in that new active players are constantly replacing inactive players to some percentage of the overall active population. Currently you just see less overall since most are off doing the new super zerging content. But sure, growing since this is a b2p so sub numbers just don’t count. Just like f2p, marketing loves it because they can boast of accounts created vs. actual active players, thus can spin it as a popular game when it’s really not. I think we will have a better idea of things by the two year mark as with most games, but certainly GW2 isn’t a failure like those that were washed out in their first year. IMO I think it’s doing well overall.

It would have been much better if they put the play time of these professions, not the number created. This would have created a much more accurate figure of what people are actually playing.
