So much better than Dub’s engi solo. this is officially sanderinoa approved, goodjob.
My thief. I used to run this look on my engie until I got the rubikon set
This is the only thing I can see.
Another aspect of GW1 was the fact that all the classes were balanced nicely. Classes weren’t being smacked with the nerf hammer every few weeks, or even months
This is the point where I realized you were talking about a different game than Arenanet’s Guild Wars 1. >_>
I played GW1 from the day it released until 2 months before GW2 released, and then started GW2 at the first day of headstart. I can say that, so far, the nerfbat has been extremely lax in comparison.
There are a lot of things that GW1 destroys this game in, but when it comes to that GW1 loses hands down. Every month I had to redo my ele build and at least the builds of 1 or 2 of my heroes because of hardcore nerfs to skills.
Especially the Seering Flames nerf. God, that was the worst…
How is speed is treated in the game? Personally I think it is brutally mistreated. It is just one thing about it I do not like and it is the way how battle slows you down when engaging combat mode. Not only is the speed already bad in my opinion but is not the condition ’’Chilled’’ and ’’Crippled’’ enough slowdown that you have to implement a script\feature that slows you down even more dramatically?
I am very interested in what people have to say about this.
Best,
Fred

Farm gold and buy the mats…
Except, this is the entire reason for inflation? It would only make the problem worse. Anet needs to fix some of the droprates on certain items before prices spin even more out of control.

My perception is less updates. We haven’t had a real lasting content patch in several months now. The game is getting stale, we need updates and bug fixes.
We need a rework of world drop rates and the ability to get items from killing monsters reliably too, a lot of us have been waiting months for these updates.
I give them a B-, because at least it’s not as slow as other games, but even with patches every month they seem hollow and empty of any substance.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
While this happens in all MMOs, GW2 exacerbates the situation with it’s game play mechanics. Since survival has almost nothing to do with how you build your character, and everything to do with how you play your character (meaning it is entirely on the player) you can, and indeed should, build for maximum DPS. There really is no reason not to since there is no trinity. This leads to cutting corners elsewhere and you end up with exactly what you are talking about here.
It’s how the game is built and, sadly, it will always be this way in GW2.
Thank you for your response, and it’s always good to hear a different perspective; however, I disagree with the DPS point being the sole reason for exploitative parties becoming the accepted standard.
Not to say you’re wrong and I’m right, that’s just not what I see is the problem that leads to parties wanting to participate in exploits.
Personally, I think the ugly truth is, players in GW2 claim they want challenging content, but really they want the easiest possible way to obtain whatever goals they’ve accepted.
Inherently, the system GW2 has set up really leaves players (imo) quite confused as to what the goal is in playing the game. Is the goal to get a legendary? To get as much gold as possible? To get the best equipment? To be a good player?
The issue could also be a subjective one, as I said previously, since different people have different goals. The system in obtaining the interested goal, however, to me is very obvious.
To obtain whichever goal you want, you have to put in the hard work for it. Yet, players don’t seem to want to put in that hard work considering how acceptable exploits are in the average dungeon run.
Honestly, this problem has many deep issues that I don’t think I could root. I do want to bring this ugly occurrence up to the community, since our actions and considerations determine the overall accepted behavior in the present and future state of GW2.
There was supposed to be a huge dungeon overhaul that began with AC. Hopefully CoF is next. That dungeon has been rampant with player abuse, exploits and elitist fragmentation since the game launched.
It took FoW and UW in GW five years to get to that point. And even then it wasn’t as difficult to find a non-speed clear, non-specialist group to complete those dungeons as it is for CoF after less than a year.
If it weren’t for the story mode side that people need to complete, I would be in favor of just locking the doors until a redesign is done.
Dragonbrand
I can see where you’re coming from. From the point of view of someone who sees getting stuff in a timely manner an issue, this is all problematical. But some players don’t play that way and don’t see that schizophrenia you’re talking about.
I’m pretty sure the percentage of players actually actively working on a legendary (instead of passively working on it) is probably a lot smaller than most people would believe. It’s just out of range of most people so they don’t really think about it. Instead, they do what they find fun and as they go they start accumulating stuff. Not because they’re trying to, but because that’s what happens. And you know, a year down the road, they have a bunch of stuff and then think, maybe now I’ll start my legendary.
You act as if the legendary is being forced on you. The legendary is something you choose to do. HOW you choose to do it is what makes the difference. These things were designed to be ultra long term goals, not the focus of everything you want to do.
Armor sets in dungeons? The same thing. If you do the same dungeon every day for weeks, of course you’ll be sick of it. If you do it once a week and five months later have what you want, you likely won’t be…or at least not nearly as sick of it.
This is where the problem exists in the game. It doesn’t cater to people who are focused on loot. I caters to people who aren’t. Until you understand that, the game will seem to be schizophrenic.
Y’know what would just be great? Separation of spvp, wvw and Pve skills.
Screw this kitten where everything’s gotta be the same cross-gameplay, people can read the skills, people can adapt. Get over it A-Net.
It’s not working.
You split Save Yourselves. If you can do that, you can split ranger skills + pet and actually make it kittening useful in dungeons.

I wonder what would have happened to me if i had chosen a ranger as my first toon.
You would have gotten AIDS and died…
On a serious note, it’s Anet we’re talking about here. I knew what their class balance was going to be like from the start, because it would be the same as in GW1, and it is. Ele’s OP, then continuous nerfs until they suck. So far, they’re on the right path with that one. Warriors OP, but they would never admit it. So far, also right. Guardians, like monks, OP for what their role is, also never admitting it. Rangers, terrible in PvE, OP in PvP, and never admitting they suck in PvE (for the record, they still haven’t done the ranger fix in GW1 they promised 4 years ago). Mesmers is one of the 2 I was wrong about. I thought they’re be OP in PvP and sucky in PvE, but then they’d get buffed up the kitten in PvE. And I thought Necro’s would be OP both in PvP and PvE, but was wrong on that one too. I didn’t know how Engi’s would turn out, so didn’t predict anything.
Well, I had 5/7 correct, not bad.

Ranger’s highest Direct Damage build comes from a melee weapon and a melee pet, just like everybody else.
The only reason you don’t often see Rangers wielding it is because the auto-attack chain roots you in place. Between trying to survive as a glass cannon that self-roots and keeping up a glass cannon pet that can’t dodge, there’s a very good reason you don’t see this too often. You could probably count on one hand the number of people who can hit the efficiency point of a build with such a ridiculously high skill floor.

You’re acting like 30-45 minutes is a long time for most people to run a single area of a dungeon. Almost every single run I’ve done of a dungeon that’s not a speed run takes around that time to complete if there are no problems whatsoever. And to most players, that’s a good enough time for a single run.
Just because it doesn’t meet your speedrunning standards doesn’t mean it’s a horrible time taken. Especially considering that almost every single run I do with a W/G/M in 3 of the slots ends up taking that long or longer because either the Warrior or Guardian sucks and don’t know what they’re doing. You’d be surprised how easy it is to get horribly skilled players in W/G/M roles due to the current dungeon meta preferring those classes over the others.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
I’m actually really disappointed with ranger in this game, even as it is now. I know in a lot of mmos pet classes always have the worst straw because balance is hard to maintain when you have both your pet and player attacking, but in gw2 is really does push it too far. Compared to every other class the damage is just terrible.
I like rangers because I like the look of bows and most games class mechanics with traps etc. In Aion for example there were no pets as far as I remember with the ranger class (although last I played was 2 years ago) and the damage was pretty good. Being able to do damage in pve is a major factor in what I consider fun. Imo fun isn’t trying to survive a fight where any other class can just roll over it like it’s nothing.
As soon as a game developer starts including pet damage in overall damage it goes completely wrong just because you will never have enough control over an npc to warrant it taking up a percentage of your overall damage. The thing that gives players great dps is timing and range of skills. The reason people can steamroll cof is because they choose their skills and weapons and switch when necessary to give the right buffs/boons to maximise dps.
Take away even 20% of that control and dps will fall significantly. Ranger has a lot less control than that. I don’t know how they can fix it, but a nerf to pet damage without any kind of buff to the class is definitely not an answer, it will only anger people. I don’t even play ranger and I don’t understand this decision, let alone the level 80 rangers out there who struggle with invites anyway!
Do you care if they only nerf it in PvP, because the referenced video is a video about PvP.
Not saying the RTL nerf was unwarranted, but the last SotG was about PvP also, and Ele was affected in PvE and WvW. Also, Engies grenades were nerfed 30% in all modes because of the PvP-based design philosophy of their class.
I’m in wait and see mode on this change, but I’m not optimistic that ANet devs are going to make the change in one mode only. The best indicator of future performance is past performance.
If they made Mounts something to manage, more involved then some piece of equipment, I’d be fine with it. Keep them out of WvW, and dungeons (or anything instanced really) and I’d be fine with that.
Have mechanical Mounts that need oil or something, and Animal Mounts that need food?
Waypoints are a little too expensive, and I’d ride a Moa around if it gave me 66% move speed (or even just 50%) out of combat.
She’d probably complain and whine about everything like she did in the first game.
there is no difficult dungeon in any MMORPG after you learn the mechanism of the fight and learend the counters(might take time to learn them and mastering them) as all things can be predicted agienst the AI you can counter it before it even begins.
tho i would like some more intresting fights(Null is a great start but more and diffrent once to would be great)

Rangers are fine, the problem is the pet.
Or then just simply play the TP instead of trying to make crafting profitable. :P
There are several items going ±10 silver (almost) daily.
Theyre not being “fresh” at all. They are also doing a complete 180 on their manifesto.
THAT is why you are seeing complaints from a lot of players. All they want is for a dev to respond to these complaints, and the devs just arent doing it.
Welcome to WoW Jr.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Mesmer here, I was fully expecting a nerf akin to putting charges to portal, so a maximum of 3 or 5 people can use the portal only.
I agree and totally understand that teleporting a huge zerg instantly from one location to another is game breaking in wvwvw. But all this “nerf” did was make my puzzle jumping a bit harder now.
Revert the cooldown to 60 seconds and put a maximum of 3 or 5 charges on portal use. That will fix its opness in wvwvw and mesmer’s personal use is unchanged.
The damage of cloak and dagger wasn’t the problem.
Few other pvp changes, including the nerfing of engineer grenades by 10-15%, throw speed increased by 10-15% to balance it out I guess.
Mes portals recast is 90sec up from 60sec.
Healing down to 5 targets.
You can no longer view opponents’ account names through reporting in WvW.
Scorpion wire up to 1200 range, expect to see more falling people.
Other than that not much to get excited about for wvw, was mainly a pve spvp update.

Currently WvW uses the same skills as PvE, so PvP balance changes do not have an impact on WvW.
Really should start labeling changes on the patch notes as spvp changes rather than just pvp to avoid confusion.

4 silver is hardly a reward. I can farm Temple of Grenth and fail the event, and with magic find sets you can get about 3-4 rares per event chain or more, with other drops, valuable metal scraps that may give ori.
Salvage, get ectos, sell 20-24 silver for each ecto, sometimes rares can give up to 3. And if the event completes, I have a chance at a precursor.
The solution is not inflating prices of magic find, burdening dungeon groups by detracting stats from groups as magic find substitutes actual stats.
What’s worse, what people hate the most in this game, Mystic Forge gambling, is being put into dungeons as well. Why do you keep insisting on introducing RNG into the game when players already are telling you they detest it? Now your dungeon run MAY be profitable enough if you run with magic find, but it may still not, because it is still RNG.
Why are you not looking at lodestone drops from dungeon chests? Why do champions and bosses not have significantly higher chances at rares and exotics? And why do people need to be suited in magic find to even find the dungeon close to profitable?
A zerg DE with aoe spam should NEVER be more profitable than a dungeon run.
