The lack of a trinity system in this game has simply resulted in a unity: warriors.

Warriors warriors warriors.

Best class in PvP: warriors
Best class in WvW: warriors
Best class in dungeons: warriors
Best class in World Events: warriors

Guild Warriors, not Guild Wars.

The problem with the holy trinity is that only a few classes could be healer or tank, and that there were many more dps classes. This creates a shortage, which is a big problem.

IMO, Rift took the correct approach: Make every profession capable of speccing into each role. Rift has 4 ‘callings’: mage, warrior, rogue and mage, and 4 roles: tank, dps, healer, support. Each calling has 9 (and soon to be 10) souls that allow each calling to perform any given role.

Much better approach.

So what, you can tie down their Ele and Guard on one point with a condi-bunker applying pressure (because yeah, full support Ele + bunker Guard probably won’t be able to take that down) then outnumber their team at the other two points? Or if their ’ultimate defense group’ moves away to try and help out other points, it’s a pretty easy backcap?

Sure, S/D could get to be powerful outside of FAir, but it’s unlikely to be anything like as broken as the old D/D bunkers - and definitely not as horrible as the current mess that is hambow/decap/pistolwhip.
A powerful support build will only be useful with allies, and if at all balanced won’t be able to apply any pressure on its own.

Also remember: every profession is getting changes this patch, along with all runes and sigils. New builds might turn up, old builds might resurface... but it’s in a completely different meta.

We just have to hope that, should anything turn out to be game-breakingly strong, it gets shaved quickly and regularly until it’s in line with everything else.

I don’t see why they couldn’t have just made it so everyone starts with the exact same stats and then players are given a X number of stats that they can choose where to spend them. The problem would be the game is UNFAIRLY balanced around what skills classes have and most of the time is is WRONGLY balanced.

that’s not true, before the buff, there’s a time when warrior were never in top team plays, there are teams with 2 eles, but rarely a team with one war. top warriors couldn’t find any team, warriors was straight up the worst class, voted free kill tier(never seen before) by the community and he was “worse then ranger’s bird”.

And look at now, teams are running two warriors, but never run an ele, not rarely, never. They at least were used back then, they may have been bottom tier, but they were still viable.

Seriously, the extra health certain classes have was meant to be the counterpart to lacking conditionclearing/damage mitigation.
I think it’s clear right now that this approach hasn’t turned out as healthy as it was intended to be.

Thats the truth, where Thieves are standing as everybody, who plays out Warrior, Mesmer, Engineer, Elementalist smart enough and knows, how thieves functionize (by having self played one long enough to know what they do and how) and saying, the Thief you fight agaisnt is no 30 SA Perma Stealth annoying player, the Thief will always have a hard tiem to fight these if the foe uses just the right builds…

Condi Bunkers are a Thieves grave, due to the poor Base Health, the poor Condi Removal Abilities and nearly no access to Stability to counter the tons of CC Skills all those Classes have plus also not the ability to take from those Bunker builds all their stupid Boons away quick and efficiently to get even a chance to deal some serious damage…

vs Warrior: The typical 0815 Warrior you meet on in WvW as a Thief is either the GS-S/W Warrior, that tries you rip you into pieces short and quickly with 100B and if he has no success with tha, he keeps on running away like the most kittened coward, that these kind of players are, paired with their god like self regenerations they have from their Healing Signet, Buff Food and eventually Dolyak Rune 6.
Or you meet on the Hambow Warrior, who first spams you full with conditions, just to smash you to death with knock downing Hammer attacks afterwards, if you aren’t quick enough to get the immobilize away, again with insane self regen paired to the poin,t that you seem to do nearly no damage or they keep you at distance and can easily reset the fight to regen back to fulth health.

vs Elementalist: in WvW when roaming around, you will always hit on one and the same Elementalists, because it is basically the only build, that gives Eles some overpowered survivability there and that is playing the D/D Bunker Build, which sets again on insane too much self regen and skills to block incoming damage so that the self regen easily can keep your health always up so that you think, you deal basically no damage, while you are already nearly dead … from all the Conditions you took into the face meanwhile from Burning and Bleeding, while getting all the time also CCed with Chill and Cripple and occasionally also launched/stunned right and the moment when you try even to fight back.
If you don’t land on them first a critical basilisk venomous backstab, you can basically forget the fight instantly.

vs. Engineers
Their condition bombing became in the last year of skill changes just ridiculous overpowered, together with skills that gave same a condi bunker build, that is near as same as OP, if not more OP than that of the Ele self.
In WvW you meet on basicsally 3 Enginners most of the time.

1) A Flamethrower/Grenade Combination or
2) A Flamethrower/ Bomb Combination
3) Only Grenade or Bombs, therefore with a 3rd Utility Tower

Within all these towers they play a Condi Bunker build, as the towers easily heal them up, while dealing also damage and supportign them, while they spam you full with confusion, blind and more burning. in the end so much conditions, that no thief can heal them away, before you get all of them new on you

vs Necromancer:
they also just nuke you full with Conditions, especially here Torment, because they know, you must put only that on you and keep you feared then, because they know, you have practically no stability to prevent gettign killed quickly from Torment and if something wents not so good, they hide behind their death shroud to receive no direct damage, until they can fear you again and nuke you again with their Staff AoEs
Most of them use then also Plague to further give you conditions quicker, than you can heal away as a cover for torment

vs. Mesmer.
They are always the same, they hide in stealth while spamming you full with dodge roll clones and the way too overpowered GS phantasms that can litrerally kill you in seconds, if you eat 2 of those directly after another with all of their hits.
Their stealth makes it easy for them to be played with full berserker to dish out insane damage.
And if somethign doesn’t work like planned, they either wait on the perfect moment to transform you into a stupid moa to have easiy play with you fort some seconds that are enough for the GS phantasms to shred you into pieces, or they use mass invis and teleport them self so quickly away with their bursts that they easily reset the fights to regen back to full health.

What I want to say with all this is… Thieves are not the only problem.
The game itself has MANY broken mechanics.

Imo its safer to hack then asking for a report function on this forum, it all gets ignored and removed while hackers are still around. Unless they start to hack gemstore, bet they will be banned in notime.

OMG Just saw how AWESOME Guardian is on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibP7ovlhMLE . Cannot imagine a Warrior jumping in a mob of 20+ players eating up all the conditions being thrown at him and still come out with half a life. On top of that, he stopped for a while in the middle of the battle with his tome for a few seconds. Look it up and see if your game play as Guardian is as good as he was. Maybe the devs are right. Showing a video with an organized group roflstomping a zerg of disorganized, underlevelled/undergeared newbies is not generally the most convincing argument.
I’m sure I could compile videos of all the times I crushed someone horribly on my 30/10/0/0/30 arcane/conjure zerker staff ele, but that by no stretch of the imagination makes that build powerful.

I’ve played guardian since I started playing GW2, I actually feel most comfortble when playing guard, however I do dislike the low base health. A War has like 8k hp more base hp but the guardian has more party-supports (at least that’s what I think). The guardian is and will always be my main, one way or the other I can keep adjusting my guardian build no matter the buffs or nerfs. Iám also using a very mixed setup, so my main can act as a “jack of all trades” guy. People in my guild and regulars ask me to play guardian during dungeons most of the time.

Please make it like skill unlock in PvP. They are automatically unlocked. Make the new traits automatically unlocked too, only in PvP. PvP should always stay free of requirement, and absolute equality of power.

Just wanted to call some attention to this thread.

It is confusing for me to see this kind of mixed messaging. A ton of people agreed in that thread that there are too many moving parts in this game to balance it well enough. Now you guys are in here saying that removing jewels equates to dumbing the game down.

Can you guys do me a favor and try the game out after the features are in the game before assuming removing this is going to ruin everything?

    Skill lag, mostly. So much skill lag. Usually skills don’t activate at all.
  • What server are you on?

    Not really, it seems to effect the whole map.
  • Has there ever been a time where one party in a map is experiencing lag, while other parties in that same map are not?

    Yep. Usually 3 way blobs in SM or Garrison fights. Guessing theres around 50+ ppl on each side. But sometimes I’ll get skill lag when two zergs are fighting in open field & I’m on the opposite side of the map.

how the hell does heavy armor class outruns thief and ele???

people says GS + Sword/warhorn does kitten damage but its wrong its just the other weapons do more damage it doesnt mean u cant kill anyone. still does massive damage + super bursty mobility.

Imagine u wearing maybe 500g light armor and other person wears 40kg heavy armor and who do u think will run fast??

and warrior got everything daze/stun/damage/armor/hp/mobility

seriously i’ve been playing my guardian for like the whole time and i played warrior for like 100 hours and feel like my guardian is completely useless…

warriors can survive much better than guardian and whoever says warriors are weak against cc, every class are weak to cc and warrior has berserk stance/endure pain / balance stance etc way more + highest hp/high armor maintaining high damage + got all the stuns/block massive hp regen (will get nerfed soon but wont be any huge difference) and crazy mobility that outruns every single classess..

tbh i think warrior is way more op than thief like i can stomp most of thieves 90% of the time except maybe some extremely well playing d/p thief with perma blind and condi necro. other than that i can stomp most of classess without taking any skills.

before anet nerf thieves on any they should nerf warrior first and buff guardians

It’s a bit of both. You have to deal with 4v5 and team comp, neither of these you can control. Sure skill plays an important, but you can only do so much. It’s very hard to remain in top 25 if you play actively. Most people will get high, then simply stop playing. Come back after a week or so, play one match, and automatically shoot back to where they were. However I really don’t blame them.

Here’s an example, I haven’t played soloq in a couple of weeks:

It is always amzing how the profession, which is suppossed to be the manliest, is so good at running away.

Man, the warriors in thiis game are real cowards. They have high armor, blocks/invulnerabilty and good self healing but still they never stay in a fight.

I think we should rename warriors into something that fits their play style more…
Something like the scaredy cat profession…

That would be nice. I partially believe that since a good number of players are Guardians. They are trying to entice other players into other classes by keeping Guardians under-powered. Once Warriors enter a plateau phase where the number of players rolling Warriors becomes constant to the other classes; they will nerf it and overpower(/balance) a new class to lure more players into that. Thats just my speculation though since I can’t make any sense of their balancing patches.

It’s not the sword that has the hitbox, it’s your character. All characters regardless of size have the same hitbox.

Honestly Warriors just screw up the game balance entirely. The game was supposed to be skill and twitch based, like an action game.

Then they give Warriors passive healing, respresenting the best personal heal in the game.

Passive Stability when CCd, no skill or reactions required.

Passive condition removal Shout when receiving a condition.

Passive direct damage immunity at 25%.

Direct damage immunity skills, condition damage immunity skills.

It’s just a balancing joke really.

The way invis was implemented in this game is pretty mind boggling.
True, thieves are pigeon-holed into abusing stealth since it has so many functions and is probably the strongest mechanic in this game; yet there is close to 0 counterplay. It is a proff that is too good at what it does. Certainly in wvw, the proff offers the user low risk high reward gameplay that may be fun for the thief but not for the opponent.
Sadly, until the devs offer counterplay outside of running around pressing 1, there is nothing that can be done.
Personally , im taking abreak and hoping for changes next balance patch (however unlikely). Would be nice to see the same posters defending this broken proff to actually have a fight on their hands.

Anet please fix Warriors....

Minions are telegraphed attacks. They’re like conditions… Except you can kill them and kite them.

How you figure’ minions have telegraphs? Everything pretty much just instantly womps on you every few seconds. Rigor Mortis on the Fiend doesn’t have a telegraph as far as I’ve been able to pay attention to, the Golem Charge is fast and instant. The Putrid Explosion on Bone Minions is un-telegraphed as well.

I guess you feel that actively reacting to the passives is a legitimate counter, and what should be done, but I find that topic kind of absurd.

Your logic in this post is the same as “PU mesmer is underpowered because it isn’t good in team fights and lacks stability”.

You choose to play with this scrubby, annoying build. So yeah, it should have weaknesses.

Minions should not be massive raw damage against any amount of targets, single or otherwise. Your damage should come primarily from you with telegraphed attacks.

Again, I don’t know how much clearer this can be.

I second this. Minionmancer does not need to be useful in other ways, in PvP. For the good of the game, all attacking A.I builds need to be flat out inferior to non-AI counterparts when used in mid to high competition.

The reason for taking A.I in tPvP should be one of these:

  • The A.I is supporting your team instead of auto-attacking. (Ranger Spirits)
  • You are a new player and want a build that is going to make you as effective as possible at low levels of competition.

Auto-attack based A.I builds need to either disappear from tPvP, or remain shrouded in obscurity. Spirit Weapons, Turrets, Minions, Thief Goons, all of these abilities are just cancerous to a competitive game that is enjoyable to play, watch, and cast.

Clarification: These are not all top tier tournament specs, I’ve singled out the specs I find least fun to play against. Specs that go against the spirit of conquest in general or have massive amounts of clutter/bad mechanics.

I hear a lot of people on these forums say meta specs like hambow and condition engies/necros, , spirit rangers, bunker guardians take no skill.

For me, I’ve grown to understand these meta specs, and I honestly don’t mind playing against them. Yes, they all have passives and irritating things about them, but overall I find that the above listed builds do fit the descriptions and the general playstyle these classes should exhibit

Then there is a different tier of specs entirely, which I absolutely hate playing against:

-Condition Automated Response Engineer: Yes, Automated response isn’t that good for team queue. However, I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen an Automated Response Engi running around at 20% health for almost the entirety of a solo queue game. It’s stupid. It should be removed.

-Minion Necromancer: Differing from the AR Engi, the MM relies on extreme passive damage instead of passive survivability. Minions can deal thousands of damage in seconds if you arent constantly evading or blinding them. This is a 1v1 spec that puts the burden totally on the other play to outplay it. Oh, and you are also punished for killing the minions because they explode on death (which is also unblockable). It’s stupid. It should be removed.

-PU Mesmer: Not seen much in tpvp, but again: Summon phantasms, stealth, wait for enemy to kill what is damaging him and get giant stacks of condis because he kills your clones all while you gain aegis and protection and regen. It’s stupid, it should be removed.

-Decap Engineer: A spec that is based around shoving your enemy off point and forcing them to 2v1 you due to the fact that you are incredibly tanky and have Automated Response. Totally against the spirit of PvP/Conquest in general. Arenanet should create a special mode calling Engi Sumo wrestling, ban these guys from normal pvp, and send them there. They can even have their own leaderboards.

-Sword/Pistol Thief: The idea behind thief sword gameplay appears to be using 2 to port to your enemy and then being vulnerable while you deliver burst, and then being smart about when to port back or swap weapons. Well, GUESS WHAT with sword/pistol you get to evade during your burst. Another stupid spec which should be fixed.

To me it just feels way more epic to be a part of a band of heroes, who saves the world. To think that I could save Tyria single handedly from the great Elder Dragons is just plain silly.

If I want to be the one great hero, I’ll go play a single player game.
But in an MMO; in a war against the mightiest of the mightiest; I would be honored if I could say that: “On that day, when thousands and thousands of valiant soldiers stormed the beaches to fight the great dragon… I was there. I was one of them. And together we prevailed!”.

Compared to: “On that day, when valiant I stormed the beach to fight the great dragon. I did it all on my own. I poked him in the eye with a stick, he died. And I prevailed on my own while the rest of the world did nothing”.

Yeah, right…
