Yes, I have to agree. I am patiently learning how to play Fallout 2 and relearning Team Fortress 2. I think I have enough patience to learn another game or two as well. As for GW2 I am done until something real happens to fix WvW.

As an aside, on Reddit someone posted that when the forums blew up with the Alliance plan to fix the population issues, Anet scrapped that idea and is starting over… Oh goodie, start from scatch… That makes sense, they seem to have zero focus or direction. Servers made WvW and Servers are a large part of what killed it. There is no future for WvW with the current server match up system. Server identity can be kept, but needs to be removed from the sorting of players into warring factions, alliances, guild groups, or however one is going to split up the WvW population into equal-ish large armies…. Unfortunately, it appears that Anet lacks the courage and most of the playerbase lack the insight to make or understand what needs to change and what doesn’t.

I know we’ve been waiting for three years for some proper attention to WvW – but not for this overhaul. I’d say at most about two years for this and perhaps in all seriousness just over one. During the past three years many things have changed including the WvW lead at Anet and probably the development team (that includes personnel or size – I have no idea and they don’t tell us).

I do not support a longer delay than is necessary to do a proper job, but I also cannot see the sense in throwing a tantrum and demanding that Anet do something immediately to fix this issue or that issue, nor to be honest do I see the point in continuing toxic behaviour on this forum.

The lack of information from Anet is deplorable and can only serve to affect customer relations in a negative way. They know this and we know this. There is however nothing to be gained from continuing to repeat the situation: if anything was going to be done then it should have been done before now.
The only hopeful option left for us is that they really are working on a major overhaul and that it will make (genuine) improvements based on the many good ideas put forward over the last year or so. Wishing this overhaul to happen now does not change the coding or time required, and probably won’t affect the resources assigned to the job either.

I have clearly stated I would welcome more information or confirmation, but Anet policy seems to be like mushroom farming. It’s not just us however, the changes to the PvP season 2 match making system were announced on Reddit and on the new eSports website, but no official link or mention in the GW2 forums or game notes. In other words this is a company wide problem and not aimed directly at WvW. To be honest I can’t see it changing however much it really needs to.

So that leaves me two viable options: be patient, or walk away. I’ve made my choice and you’ll make your own. But a third option of stay but keep complaining? I really can’t see how that helps any more.

Anytime a class has stealth, mobility and burst, it will require a specific build to even have a chance to fight it. You must be tanky enough to survive the attacks you cannot avoid, have enough lock down and damage to kill them before they retreat in stealth to heal up, and the patience not to engage any objectives until they’re dead, lest they follow and gank you.

In short, thieves are pretty dumb in WvW. I wouldn’t expect changes, though.

The term nightcapping is relative to who you are talking to.

The term nightcapping describe when a group of people play during extremely low population times for the express purpose of getting 600+ PPT without facing any opposition whatsoever.

There’s nothing relative about it.

What if the only time a player is able to play is during low enemy population times? What do you suggest they do, not to play?

I’m in favor of scaling PPT based on total WvW pop no matter the time of day. Fair across the board with no flaws or limitations to how/when people play.

Besides that, we got EoTM. Players are automaticly compressed into a low number of hopefully populated instances. Nightcappers that choose to join WvW know exactly what they are doing. Or what, are they running around aiming for 650 tick while being confused about the fact they dont meet enemy players? Such a joke.

Not really, it’s not Glicko’s fault that NA tiers are so separated by Glicko, it reflects your stacking behavior quite adequately.

The match-making based on Glicko can generate very varying matches, look at this weeks EU T1-4: 3-1-8, 9-2-4, 10-11-5, 8-7-12

Do you know the populations of NA servers, or you just making up bullkitten? The way anet’s glicko system works, its nearly impossible for glicko to transfer between tiers. Look up the history of NA servers: T1 servers have had 2100+ rating since mos launch, T2 is generally around 1900, 8th ranked server has a big glicko drop from 6th, with 7th somewhere inbetween. Do you think NA somehow perfectly maintains this ratio of stacked servers? Or is it more likely that the glicko system is fundamentally flawed for wvw?

I’m thinking you don’t know the history.

Not transferring. Game mode is dead, everyone knows it. Arena Net has failed at improving WvW, they were given plenty of time, but refused to do so. Instead they implemented changes testers hated, and other mechanics people were not crazy about. WvW participation is at an all time low, most of the people returning for expansion have already left. Was fun, had a ton of good fights, but focus in this game is clearly not what many of us had wanted.

People get frustrated that all their efforts to keep ppt up, upgrade and defend etc, goes all to waste during off hours because an enemy server can ktrain and paper everything and easily tick over 400 with little effort. It turns people away from playing for ppt and focus just on fights, which will create friction in a server, and can sometimes lead to server falls/exodus’

Personally I find ppt meaningless and a waste of time, unless your trying to stay in a tier. I didnt always feel this way, but things like nightcapping killed any desire I had to play for ppt. Now that doesnt mean I blame people who play in other timezones, thats simply ridiculous, they dont deserve any blame for logging in to play, its not their fault that their is little competition from the opposing servers.

The problem lies more with the scoring system. Why is capping/holding a fully upgraded or a paper objective worth the same in points? It makes no sense, more effort should bring about more reward for your server. They did a good thing by permanently implementing PPK, but the effect is not enough enough. There needs to be a complete overhaul of the scoring system.

For example a keep, regardless of upgrades contributes 25 points to the tick.
What if, just as an example it were changed to:
t1-5points
t2-15points
t3-25 points

And capturing a keep would give an immediate point bonus to the server, depending on the keeps upgrade tier.

So just an example, but anyways, if the scoring system were more balanced and actually rewarded effort, it would make things more fair for people across timezones.

I dotn feel so called Nightcapping is the issue, its the way the score is done in wvw that screws everyone over. ive always thought that PPT only hands advantage to those who have most numbers more of the time, so imo i have always believed that PPC ( points per cap) would be better balance, night capping would then have the same limit as rest of server during prime, so no matter how long its held for with no enemy around to contest the +695 score they can hold for 6-8 hours, they will only still score a set number of points due to this. also i feel score could be contributed to via successfully defending a objective and ofc PPK.

but meh you please one person you then annoy another, cant win/win always.

Then again tbh the score is pretty irrelevant nowadays, you get the same for winning as loosing, if you do win and go up unless you got plenty and plenty of people, you get slapped back down by bigger blobs in a week anyway. ive learned to ignore the overall scores and just focusing on having fun….at least try too

The real question is why do some people get so hot and bothered over terminology when you know very well what the actual problem is?

The actual problem is too many servers open and not using a temp map rotation to eliminate queues during busy hours. The " terminology" is absurd is the issue for a game that is running 24/7. Many games run 24/7 and people do not cry about imaginary “night capping” on those due to the game actually having players on every server open regardless of what time you log in.

It was a term invented to avoid discussing the actual problem.

Every time a thread like this pops up, the majority of the discussion ends up being someone lecturing others on why not to use the term “night capping” instead of the actual problem. It gets absurd.

I like the idea of retaining servers and using over flow maps for large population times. As long as this doesn’t result in guilds or groups being split between two maps too much I think it could be interesting.

Instead of having EoTM as an overflow, just put more EBG maps in actual play during peak hours, allowing for full scoring of points during a specified time limit then letting them go away once population declines. They can add as many or as few as they like during the times needed.. Like have it determined by the number of people hitting a certain number on all 3 servers in the match to trigger an overflow map to appear to keep it balanced. This way, no matter when you play you actually get to play instead of sit in queue or have no one to play with or against.

This prevents too much ground to cover during off hours and too little maps open during peak and people always available to play with and against either way.

Imagine a fiendly soccer match with 20 vs 20 on the field. The ball is going back and forth, people are trying to score and are having a good time. Eventually, everyone leave the field and the score is 10 vs 8. Lets continue the match tomorrow.

The next day, they run out on the field again for a rematch. The score is now 10 vs 288. 1 guy has been kicking the ball into an empty goal during the night.

While you are wondering how the kitten you are supposed to make up those points being matched against the full strength of the other team, the fan crowd just yells “dont kittening dis that guy, he is as much worth as you even if he can take 280 points and you 20 people cant even score more than 10.”

This was someone else’s idea but make all structures T3 from jump and nothing auto-repairs even between flips. Could solve all these woes… basically fix it or lose it.

while the idea might shake things up a little, once again, I’d rather not be the few people repairing something while everyone else runs around on the tag.

plus this is wvw where we are suppose to be fighting over objectives.. not bob the builder where the few dedicated repairers will stick around and repair something.

I’ve been a home border defender, scout, and roamer for about 3 years. In my opinion, the current upgrade system is fine. It is an improvement over the old in the sense that dolyaks are once again needed, but no one can blow 800 sups on a useless upgrade just as the enemy horde is advancing.

On the other hand, the upgrade system is rendered meaningless due to the fact that home defenders cannot use the keep waypoints and the travel time by foot through the hamster maze is far too long.

I’ve timed this. It takes a zerg less than 6 minutes from touching the outer gate of a fortified keep to lord down and ring up. If a tower is contested in the south when I am in the rampart, I know it’ll be lost by the time I reach it, so why bother upgrading it unless I am going to sit in it.

It is difficult to get zergs from EB to respond to calls for help without a waypoint, because, well, once again, the hamster maze. Add to this the constant threat of fall damage death, I’ve had to many times start over from spawn because I never made it to the contested keep at all due to some paw slip. The map is just one platform jumper game.

Traditionally, there have been just a small handful of roaming scouts responding to contested keeps and towers. With the old map, this was not much of an issue, because in any tower you could immediately see all the walls and gates, and it didn’t take a whole lot of walking to see which wall was damaged in Bay or Hills either. On the new map, especially Fire has way too many walls to check and long distances to travel between them. Start from spawn, walk to the keep, check all the walls and gates – all within the six minutes it takes for a zerg to cap a T3 keep. Go.

Big spender daily needs to be changed so heroics also trigger it. Right now it’s just badges of honour like the old system. I shouldn’t have to buy worthless basic siege with precious badges to trigger it when I have 2k heroics to spend on superiors.

Oh and goodjob on changing heroics. I’ve been spending them like mad upping my dwindling siege reserves….it really beats spending gold and making me feel like a sap for putting more money in than I get out. Thankyou for that fix it was very much appreciated.

I actually like it more since I was one of the few people that ran around and spent my money to upgrade stuff.

Old way I would run around maps and start upgrades in towers that had full supplies, go out roaming, ninja camps and kill some yaks.. Go back to check our side and find out that nobody started the next upgrades and once again towers had full supplies.. All those wasted yaks because only a few people actually took care of the upgrades while everyone else ran around on a tag. There are still people defending/babysitting towers.

Plus trolls used to order guards etc etc when you needed those supplies or order a wp with 0 supplies in your keep and it would never finish leaving you with no supplies for siege if an attack came. Not to mention the many arguments and name calling when someone tried to be helpful and order an upgrade but got scolded for doing so because it wasn’t in the correct order in someone else’s eyes.

oh look here’s another “balance” centred around pvp/wvw and affecting pve along the way. If so much balance is needed, can there be 2 seperate game modes and 2 seperate traits, one for pve and another for wvw/pvp? I mean the entire environment is different, I don’t see why one has to keep taking the hit for the other.

Errr, actualy, food is a pve crutch, and it’s really broken in wvw. PvE gear/food is the main reason why wvw is grossly unbalanced and will never be fixed.

When they say WvW is a priority I am sure they are referencing current development efforts. I believe them when they say they have been working on a big WvW overhaul.

Their silence on why it didn’t make HoT is telling. It appears to be months away and likely points to the project being more difficult than the initially planned. I also think they believed the HoT “improvements” would satisfy the WvW crowd for a bit and did not anticipate the poor reception.

Anet said that they’ve been working on the upgrade for over a year, and that it won’t even be ready for BETA until the end of 2016 – meaning we probably won’t see anything until 2017.

If WvW were a revenue generator, they would have finished the upgrade awhile back. The “it’s difficult” angle can only be stretched so far. As an architect, I understand that you can only throw so much man power at projects. Project do take a certain amount of time to complete, and sometimes having to many people is worse than having too few.

But we didn’t want a WvW overhaul with all the PvE fluff that they’ve spent so much time on. We wanted a solution to the population imbalance problem that has plagued WvW since day-one.

In the three years I’ve played WvW, there have been two weeks that I can recall, where I was genuinely surprised at the outcome of a match up. Usually (99.99% of the time) I can not only tell you who will place 1st, 2nd & 3rd, but also what the spread of points will be at weeks end.

This is the core problem with the game mode, and they’ve never done anything to address it. This is what we want fixed.
