[Suggestion] Ringing the right notes-colour blind option

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RoseofGilead.8907

RoseofGilead.8907

The colors don’t even factor into it on me. If you aren’t already doing this, make sure your camera is aimed down onto the area you’re facing. Then (using normal keyboard keybindings) place your left pinkie on 1, ring finger on 2, etc.; these will be the four notes/lines on the left side. Then have nothing on 5. Then right index finger on six, and place the rest of your fingers accordingly; these will be the four notes/lines on the right side. I find if I’m looking down onto the board with my fingers in place, it’s easy for me to see which button I need to press for each light.

I think that is a very bad idea. There is a lot of knowledge in those archived forums that will be hidden from players. There are a lot of links on Google that will be unavailable if you do so.

Does it matter? Age is just a number.

IMHO, age is a measure of wisdom, so it does matter to me.

It really isn’t.

Age is just a measure of how long you’ve been alive, it doesn’t inherently impart any wisdom. Plenty of people refuse to learn from their experiences.

As I see it, and I have been actively reading the post, Guhracie had noble intentions in posting this and he offered a personal position on the use of inflammatory words when they are (mis)used in specific ways.

This shouldn’t have devolved into the snarkfest it has become. This isn’t a semantics debate. It’s not the platform for someone to mock, insult, and abuse other forum members because he/she disagrees with the position stated. It’s a personal position and you’re welcome to join in, or not. But arguing with the stated position it is like arguing with someone because you like salmon and they do not. There’s not “right” or “wrong” for it’s a personal opinion. Just as “I don’t intend to participate in certain threads” is a personal choice.

When one thread had more than half a dozen warranted reports and more that could have been made, well, obviously there’s a problem. In this case, the problem seems to be not with the original post but with forum members who are unwilling or unable to remain quiet on a subject that does not require or benefit from their input.

Please don’t post if you’re being argumentative, insulting, or pedantic. Please feel free to move to the next thread and contribute where you have a contribution to make and leave this thread for those who wish to join in the pledge or discuss the parameters of the pledge in a respectful and contributing manner.

GW2 needs a Huge Tutorial Instance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ronah Lynda.2496

Ronah Lynda.2496

GW2 is different then other MMOs si it needs to have a tutorial which tells newcomers how to play the game inside the game not on an online manual no one finds even if it is put on the client page nor a wiki with tousends of subjects.

For those who remember GW1 Prophesies, there was the Pre-sering. a slow paced zone where people could learn the basics about the game.

I am suggesting for a similar zone in GW2 which will not be skippable when you have the first character but skippable from the 2nd character on.
In this zone the player will be taken around by an NPC and shown the mechanics of the game: skills and skill combos, weapon choices, hearts, vistas, Pois. They will be told there is no kill steal or resouce steal and thet there are events pop-ing up.

They also should be told they can travel to other races starter zones – which is not always possible in other MMOs – and they should be told about WvW and PVP too.
Tell the new players about the living story which they have as a sort of endgame content and that it will continue their personal story

I belive a tutorial zone like this will do much better to a new player to understand what to do then any written texts (online manual, wiki, in -game pop-ups). Also, they will learn to listen to the NPCs talking and not ignore them completely

I am writing this suggestion becasue, during this Christmas vacation I have played and helped a lot of newcommer in the game. It took me about 1 hour to explain them the basics to undestand what they needed to do. All of them were lost after the few hearts the initial scout told them about (if they even have talked to the initial one)

Please A-net, try to implement a tutorial instance to the game even if it hard work to do, but it will have better effect on the new players considering this game is 2.5 years old aready. it will de better then any written text.

It’s almost like the ANet staff are human beings with lives of their own and limited time in which to do things…

Strange. I also have a life of my own, and limited time to do things, and yet I still have to work and I still have yo satisfy clients’ needs. If I can’t then they go elsewhere, where there’s superior service. That’s how business works. That’s how it goes for everyone. ANet are not special in that regard.

As for the limited time excuse, considering most of the Wintersday content is recycled, it should have given them MORE time to work on the aesthetic side of things, which, really, was all they had to work on for the most part.

If you’re getting kicked, the problem is not with the grouping system, and it is not with the dungeon community. The problem is entirely your fault, and you should either change whatever behavior you’re exhibiting to cause this or stop playing.

THIS ISN’T WoW! The maps aren’t big and we don’t need mounts for speed boosts or whatever. From skills to boosters the game basically hands you speed boosts!

The ignorance of many of you is astonishing, a lot of people would prefer exploring a map on a mount than waypointing from A to B to C, so please: don’t speak for everyone but feel free to add an “Imho” to your posts of this kind.

btw. a lot of people don’t see mounts as speedboosts and wouldn’t care if a mount would have none. They love them for the looks. This has been said in all those countless posts you’re refering to more than once.

I think it would be better to change the shout “Retreat” to “Charge” and the corresponding shout dialogue. It’s a little odd when I’m doing a dungeon or wvw and were all running forward and my character shouts retreat!?

It’s even more unsettling and confusing when activating all of my shouts and it says, “Stand Your Ground” followed by “Hold the Line” followed by “Retreat” lol?

Charge would be good or something like it since it has to do with sprinting.

Hi, I’d like to apply for the position of ‘Bad Idea Specialist’, and, if chosen, my first act as a Bad Idea Specialist will be to say that I think this ‘Forum Specialist’ idea is a very Bad Idea for reasons which should have been painfully obvious to whomsoever gave implementing it actual consideration (see also: Players’ Councils). Further, I’ll point to my own post which you are reading even now as evidence of why it’s a bad idea.

Alas, I know that whomsoever is in a position to naysay this bad idea will not naysay it based on this or any other evidence, regardless of how irrefragable such evidence may be, or it would never have been yaysaid, so to speak, in the first place; therefore, in protest, I hereby withdraw my application for the Bad Idea Specialist position.

The table is a fable.

Forum Specialists may make no promises—expressed or implied—about the relaying of information, neither that it will be relayed nor that it has been relayed in the past. Forum Specialists may not divulge information that they may learn about unreleased components of the game, such as upcoming changes or new content.

I appreciate the idea, but what we need is a policy change. Not more people saying “I don’t know” or “I can’t tell you.”

What would the role of these specialists be? Just to point newcomers to existing posts that answer their questions? To serve as a liason between the player and developer communities? To be a friendly face associated with a particular subforum?

If they’re still bound by the “don’t talk about what’s in development” policy, I don’t see this improving anything.

CDI-Guilds- Raiding

in CDI

Posted by: Conski Deshan.2057

Conski Deshan.2057

Proposal Overview
That raids not be a guild activity

Proposal Functionality
A raid works using an entry portal or entry NPC at the appropriate location that can be used when in a raid party of appropriate size.

Goal of Proposal
To not lock raids to specific guilds,
What would likely be my “Raid Group” in this game consists of leaders/commanders from a few different guilds. This means they can’t and won’t leave their current guilds or join a new one for raids so it needs to be accessible for an organized guildless party (Accessible as in you can enter I’m not talking about succeeding or anything, it should be extremely likely that you fail).

Associated Risks
-One less thing specifically for guilds
-No enforced community aspect on raiding

[RoF] and [BL] guild leader
11x level 80’s 80+ Titles 2600+ skins , still a long way to go.

Immersive Combat; It's time to add this.

They’re good methods of measuring trends. Why is this so hard to understand?

They’re bad methods of measuring trends. Not completely devoid of any kind of merit, but on their own they are pretty poor. We’ve been over this. The data they present is the popularity, per game, of their product per user. I see too many websites citing these statistics as examples of trends in gaming habits when they are not representing that data.

I did some quick calculations based on the latest stated concurrency of users of those overlays versus games where we know exactly how many people are playing them (such as DOTA2, which has over 700,000 concurrent users online according to Steam’s figures) and the mis-representation of population numbers and trends was evident at every turn. According to their lists, DOTA2 should be between half and a fifth as popular as it actually is.

I’m a researcher by profession. It’s part of what I did. Fact checking. I go around a look for facts.

People have certainly been saying that this data means nothing since page 1. So what? People say lots of things…many of which are incorrect.

I take it you think of yourself as the exception based on how you talk/write.

I’ve followed this stuff for years, people are coming and saying…I never heard of it, so it must be wrong.

If you don’t want to accept that this is an indication of something that’s well within your rights.

I choose to think those numbers are representative but accept that others aren’t necessarily of the same opinion. That’s how life works; there will always be people who believe different things and maybe people were more receptive to what you have to say were you not always so adamant about being right and tried an actual dialogue.

You agree with those people so what they tell me seems right to you and you believe I should just accept it.

No, quite the contrary. That’s just a result of my ego not being as big and thinking I know everything better than everyone else. I simply accept that different people choose to believe different things. Now as I see it, people know that statistically the game is doing alright, however based on people I talk to from the WvW and SPvP community as well as my guild members (the new ones who joined after the old brigade left) who play more PvE the overall enjoyment has gone down.

People I talk to are displeased with the direction the game is going so they fear that Anet chooses to persue said path based on their numbers. People are just afraid the game they loved turned into something they don’t like – perfectly understandable if you ask me.
The world isn’t always black and white but a good researcher would know that.

Yes, the world isn’t always black and white and I’m well aware of that. In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve never once said this was a great game. Not once. But I have said people who are saying this game is dead are wrong. Mistaken or providing misinformation deliberately.

It’s funny that you can’t differentiate between what I’ve said and what you think I’m saying.

I never indicated that you said GW2 was a great game. All I said is: There will always be people with a different opinion. Respect that. Maybe then you will be shown respect in return. Try a dialogue, not a ‘lecture’ where you are showing all the others why they’re wrong. Listen and you will be listened to.

Instead of stating opinions as fact (in regards to whether your statistics are accurate or not), state that you think it is correct or indicative of a trend and why. Then listen to what others have to say about it.

It’s funny how you are trying to lay words in my mouth just to bash a strawman because I actually think those statistics can show trends.
I guess that’s just the hallmark of a ‘forumwarrior’. It’s not about an actuall discussion, just about the controversy. A real shame, considering you could use your energy more productively :/

Do you think most people don’t see it? I get far more sympathy than hate from these types of posts.

The sad part is, I actually believe that you believe that. It’s highly subjective and I don’t have the time to count votes but from what I’ve seen you get far more ridicule then praise. The fact that you really think most people are on your side could be really interesting in regards to psychological factors for this type of zealos behaviour.

There’s something about humans that seems to make it almost impossible for most people to accept different points of view on a subject, rather than only their opinion being correct, and it’s one of the things I hate most about people as a whole.

Exactly what I’ve been trying to highlight. Some people just aren’t willing to accept opinion of others and don’t realise their zeal to prove everyone wrong makes them look desperate.

In reading the comments here, it seems that some forum members may have missed the update, originally posted at about 6:00 PM Pacific on 10/22. There are a lot of posts in this thread, so here’s that update, reposted for your convenience:

Here’s an update for you:

It’s clear that quite a lot of you would like to have greater flexibility in using the Currency Exchange. Our intention when we designed the new interface was to streamline large volume purchases, which make up the majority of transactions.

In light of your feedback, we will update the Currency Exchange so that you can decide how you want to use it. We will keep the new streamlined system and also offer a new “Custom” button on the panel that you can use to exchange any increment of gems or gold.

We anticipate rolling this out soon. Stay tuned!

~~~~~
Sorry for the delay in posting this, but out of respect to our international community, we wanted to be able to post in several forums at once.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As of today, Friday, the developers have been actively working on creation of the Custom option. They then will put it through a testing pass after which it will be rolled out into the game. We think you’ll like the option, and I believe you’ll be pleased with the timeframe for this implementation, as well.

It’s funny seeing people trying to rationalize this.

Their argument falls flat though, when Asura and Charr are clearly representing humans from the real world.

I see these same arguments from Tera fans when discussing Elin. “Their not kids! They are hundreds of years old!” ….riight.

Last time I checked, however, Tera’s case aren’t fur-covered bipedal cats or… whatever you’d compare asura to. They actually look like kids in Tera.

That’s a fine difference.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
