Downstate is the best thing that ever happened to this game.. I can’t believe how people can’t understand that if there was no downstate Burst DPS builds wouldn’t even be run and this safety meta would become a Special olympics safety meta.

Can you believe that balance patches would still appear after downstate would be gone? But ofcourse its easier using ‘special olympics’ arguments and assuming it will suddenly be in tomorrow ruining the game.

At any rate i think a single toggle would help both sides of the argument. And when we get deathmatches i’d really really want the option there as well…but that is going to be a little more difficult.

I know that probably has been a post like that previously but dont get me wrong, downed state is very useful in Dungeon and generally PvE and in many occasions in WvW, but is completely annoying and useless in PvP. For example something that happened to everyone, you were dueling someone and you beat him while he`s on downed state you are trying to finish him and someone else takes advantage of your low health and defeats you and you neither got a kill or had the time to escape because you were busy FINISHING THE PREVIOUS PLAYER!!! i mean what??? and thats just one example of why downed state doesnt have place to an intense game feature such as PvP! Anet if you want your game to have at least a chance in Esports little things like that, have to change!

You are not optimizing.
If you took the new healing skill you’d be able to die at least 5 seconds faster.

Attrition – A pretty name for taking longer than anyone else to kill something.

Ascended items, no matter the slot, are now practically making this a min/max stat game. Which is upsetting based on Anets prelaunch “principles”. I think they could’ve and should’ve went about ascended items an entirely different way.

What They should have done with ascended pieces across the board is…

  • Same stats as exotics.
  • Make them have choose-able stats(ooc).
  • Give them a unique glow(armor/weapons).
  • Make it so you can change your appearance of armor and weapons at will. Or the option to “store” armor looks.
  • Give you the option to store different runes/sigils to be able to “change your gear” as the situation calls for.

Legendaries/precursors should’ve also never been tradeable. But thats a different topic. But on this topic legendaries would still be BiS and be the way they are currently with slightly higher stats and the ability to choose your stat sets. But i still think legendaries should have the option to store sigils as well.

Since this game was supposed to be capped at exotics and meant for looks, i think that this would have saved a lot of grief and outcry over ascended items. Making them a QoL type item and something to strive for other than just min/max your stats. They could’ve also went about obtaining ascended/legendary items a different way entirely making them more of a “status” item(s) by completing a storyline type quest(s).

Just my 2 cents on how this game could’ve been so much more. In its current state i feel that this is just a “filler game” until the next big mmo drops. :-/

IIRC, vampires always have regained health when they attack. Is this a new kind of vampires, like the shiny ones from Twilight?

I can’t believe how Dev team surpass themselves every time with more and more useless ideas for necromancer.

I wanted to take this time, as a thief player, to say I am really sorry for your loss regarding the healing skill. The datamined version looked so good and when I saw it yesterday on livestream, the only thing I thought was: “kitten , Thieves didn’t get the shortest stick!”
I thought we would get the crappiest heal from all 8, but your version with an ICD….just wow :P
Apart from siphoning being already pretty lackluster. I tried to get my guild wars 1 vampiric necromancer back, but it just won’t work.

So once more, my condolences!

Just wanted to hop in and mention that we’ll also be talking about a few of the balance changes for each profession in addition to looking at the healing skills.

It was great to see the Necro portion was essentially “hey guys, we added an ICD, a cast time, made the CD longer, and got rid of the passive damage from the healing skill. Well, time to get to ranger!”

I know, it was just the best. Good to know I’ll be able to hang on to my skill points for a rainy day on my Necro. Thanks for the 7 new heals ANET!

I’m going to contact some friends in game who I know have lines to the developers, and see if I can’t get contact info so I can personally convey some of our feelings, or at least make sure that those feelings have already been translated.

I’m kind of at a loss of what to say though. I’ve met a good portion of the PvP team in person. I felt like they were really passionate about the game and balance, and I still do. This is their game, its their baby, and they want it as good as possible, but I feel there is a disconnect between ideology and the final product.

This recent signet, for example. The idea was amazing. I and many others were really excited to see it in action, and to play around with it. A signet that gave up guaranteed burst healing for sustained/burst damage, with a lot of counterplay included for defending, and lots of room for skillful use/avoidance? Amazing idea. It had me really, really excited, not only for the skill itself, but the idea that “wow, Anet can come up with ideas like this? I can’t wait for the other skills they do.”

But then it gets previewed, and everything that made the skill really unique was stripped from it. They added a clunky ICD on defense for… what exactly? The passive damage was removed as well, both of these were key ideas for the passive. It was supposed to be something that applied passive damage reduction and damage output, to reward you for being in the fray. Then after you had baited out their defensive mechanics, you slap them with a mark, and your team descends for the kill. You save some fast-hitting moves to destroy them with a big burst, but the trade off is no burst heal at all. You’re completely trading away a guaranteed heal for passive damage reduction/retaliation, and a strong burst option, all with high counterplay.

But all the personality of the skill was stripped. The max stacks made sense (enforces a max-healing cap), but the rest of the changes completely gutted it. There is a big disconnect between what could have been, and what is, and it both saddens and annoys me. They butchered what could have been a great skill.

I’m open to ideas on how to get in contact, because I’d love to. I’d like to think they’d listen to me, as well as a few others, considering our history on these forums and in the community. Long ago I had been told by a dev that he’d really love to show up on a Podcast with me, but he got shut down by “higher ups”. I know for a fact that at least one dev watched a few of our old casts. But now ANet is completely unreachable. I’m honestly at a loss.

I don’t know what we can do as Necromancers to avoid this anymore.
We’ve tried to have meaningful discussions.
We’ve tried making suggestions.
We’ve complained in our subforum.
We’ve complained in other subforums.
I’m a wit’s end here. Do we need to send them a cake again?

I mean really, I’m getting sick and tired of this. And I’m not the only one. I remember, once upon a time, when Bhawb would play devil’s advocate and defend some design components. Look at him now.


  • Dhuumfire was introduced, addressing no profession concerns but making us the opposite of our class design – the biggest PvP burst class in the game.
  • Terror, which had been fine since launch, was nerfed, because fixing the new, and obviously broken Dhuumfire would have been admitting a mistake.
  • Corrupt Boon was wrecked, because promoting counterplay is bad, “Save Yourselves” is fair, and SPvPers cried too hard.
  • Spectral skills received buffs, but had internal cooldowns introduced, making them useless against groups.
  • The putrid mark debacle, which ended up with us keeping the nerfed version.
  • Deathshroud overflow was introduced, because every class gets to actively avoid three OHKO attacks except the necromancer.
  • Siphoning was changed so that it was “more powerful” without Bloodthirst, which really meant that scaling got shifted around and nothing was effectively accomplished.
  • New healing skills were introduced, and the Necromancer’s heal has no burst effect, a passive effect most NPC’s can ignore, and an active the can be completely negated by good play.
    There are more, but I’m tired of listing failures.

I spend money on the gem store. I play PvE. I play PvP. I play WvW. I am almost every target demographic this game has. Except I’m a necro, so apparently ANET won’t pander to my interests. I just don’t know what to do anymore.
I want meaningful Developer interaction. I want the developers to say what they think about us in its entirety. I want the community to be a part of something, and to stop festering hatred. I would like proof that there are people at ANET who actually play this profession.

I generally try to advocate diplomacy in all it’s forms, but clearly, we’re getting nowhere. I am more than willing to get infracted for this post, as long as the message gets passed up from the Mods to the developers. That’s how dedicated I am to this profession. And that dedication is getting stepped on at every available opportunity.
What do you guys thing we can do?

Necromancer heal is an issue of a good idea that was destroyed by details.

The passive is essentially a 300ish damage reduction on every hit that comes in… oh wait, no it isn’t, because there is an ICD. Not only did they nerf it from being a life steal (aka doing damage) and having an interesting niche where we could essentially choose a healing skill that did lots of damage, but had otherwise low healing, but they threw an ICD on top to make completely sure that it wasn’t helpful.

The active is just… wow. You can not only avoid getting dodged, you can avoid all of the extra proccing, which, again, has ICD to make sure it isn’t good.

“But it’ll be good for supporting!” Yeah, because we see sooo many support Necromancers.

I’ll try it out in PvE so I can turn our really easy boss fight into a slightly easier boss fight. Other than that, 10/10 job ANet, you’ve managed to make it quite obvious its a personal hobby of yours to get Necro hopes up, only to crush them back down with nerfs.

Its sad, really. We had multiple threads in the Necro forums that already thought the skill would be really niche, and then it turns out its been nerfed since then. But, of course there either won’t be any interaction with Necros as per usual, or they’ll tell us to L2P again.

Regarding gold rate, the rates chosen are based on what players can expect from average play in other areas of the game, not on farming rates. It is not our intent to make PvP a better place to farm but to make it about on par with what a typical player can expect in other areas of the game. Some of you have correctly noted that time spent in PvP doesn’t contain many of the gold sinks that PvE players experience and this has been factored in. We do want to encourage players who haven’t tried PvP to come give it a shot because they will continue to earn the rewards they get in other parts of the game. We don’t want people to feel this is where they must to go to maximize their rewards. We will adjust rates if we feel it is necessary.

i.e. rank points gained via anet’s public hotjoin servers, solo arena, team arena.

If not, what would you do to improve rank acquisition?
maybe further drastically increase the rank points acquisition on solo arena and team arena? leave it the same rank points acquisition rates for anet’s public hotjoin servers and player rented custom arenas.

im fine with not being able to be healed by other people while in DS (even if it’s stupid and i think it should work at least as a reduced rate), but Lifesteal should work 100%. not as some major trait or anything like that. we already have enough vampiric traits, if more are added they should do something more original, not a near-obligatory thing that should be part of lifesteal by default.

imo it’s just bad design that a fairly big and rather unique part of the class is countered by its class mechanic.
(and technically, it’s not even healing in the first place. you dont heal your HP, you steal them, after all)

I am VERY disappointed the Flamekissed armor set was take off the Black Lion market. I would love to get this skin, but I never had the chance. Light human tier 3 is my favorite armor skin in the game, and they glowing effects made it so much better. Please allow players to purchase this skin or update the human tier 3 to have the same effect when you re-skin the Flamekissed set

I have recently purchased the Flamekissed armour, and I was wondering if it would be an option to allow those who have purchased the new skin to “choose” whether or not they would like their current Flamekissed skin to take on the current or “new” art. This would allow not only the people who spent the money to be satisfied with what they purchased, it would also result in less refunds. People who spent the money would be happy, and those who don’t like the armour could simply purchase the “new” art. Otherwise, unless the “new” art is amazing, customer service will have a lot of work on their hands.

Please let me know what you think about this idea, because I love the armour, and I don’t want it to be changed while equipped on my character. I would love to have the choice between the “old” and “new”.

My toon is human, so why can’t I keep my set? This is where all the complainers don’t make any sense to me whatsoever, yet they don’t know to just shut the eff up. Let the human toons keep the set it’s the best looking armor in the history of this game.

Now – for the non-human toons, give them a full refund and let them keep the new set. Isn’t that a more competent way to deal with this mishap?

Unfortunately the purists would not have that as then the skin would be more exclusive than theirs.

I love the new armour set and own both a t3 set and a flamekissed set on my necro (human), mixing and matching between the two. “Exclusivity” went out the window for t3 many months ago, at least 1/3 players have a character in t3 human.

Introduce a replacement set in the gem store but let those who have already purchased the old set keep it. I think I speak for everyone who bought this set when I say, If we are forced to change even with the option of a refund who would seriously buy gems again? every time you go to buy something from the gem store you would have to ask yourself “Am I actually going to get to keep what I’m buying?”.

While it may be legally correct to refund just gems (as technically the gems were what we purchased with RWM) players wouldn’t consider that even. Ideally we would want to keep the set, second to that we want whatever we put in to get the gems, either a RWM refund or the cost of BUYING 800 gems with in game money.

Final Comment:
In the first place this really should have been the design for ascended armour using the various races t3 as a base. That being said forced removal of the set for players who have already purchased it is very bad form.

A wise man once said, “A good compromise leaves everyone feeling cheated”. it sounds totally wrong but its actually true. In a good compromise, no-one ever gets exactly what they want or feel is fair.

That is only true in the case of win-lose bargaining.

In win-win bargaining, facilitated by interest-based negotiation, a good compromise leaves everyone feeling they were treated fairly and everyone can have their interests satisfied.
