The thing is that they should, unless absolutely mandatory, never hunt down “criminals” by punishing legit players as well.

As it is, the system is punishing legitimate players quite a lot… Really think they should reconsider some of their choices in this area.

Where's GW1 in GW2?

Heyo,

I’m kinda dissapointed to see how GW2 turned out. Why? Because they told everyone they would make the next level mmo. Instead they copied WoW. The only thing they nailed perfectly was the leveling system. But on top of that all they told they would put everything that was good in GW1 into GW2. (manifesto video)

GW1 was a next level mmo. I can’t seem to find any other mmo that is like that. It was unique. That’s why so many people loved GW1. If i play GW2, i miss the instanced areas, i miss that i only needed 20 levels. I miss the teamwork. I miss the drop system, the way how you get good looking items. I miss how PvP was. Balthazar points, the huge deck of skills. & omg! The dual professions :o (ow & GvG :oooooo,, GH !!! Alliances!!! i’m trippin here)

Looking to GW2 it looks way more like WoW rather than GW1. Like: traits = wow masteries, single classes with each their own set of skills. Trading post = auction house. Open world. Big bosses with high HP pools. Long time required to level. Mining, woodcutting, etc.. Lack of skills making you use the same skills over & over again like in wow.

Some new things that are new but i dont’ like: Paid waypoints, RNG, grind for items instead of challanging/hard content. Dodge to counter the dmg of EVERYTHING instead of taking the correct skills to counter your enemy.

The only next level things i found in GW2 was: leveling system although i rather have max level 20-30. & Jumping puzzles.

I would like to know from u guys that played GW1, what u think of GW2. But only comment if you did PvP alot or did speedclears or Solo farming. Cus i don’t want people commenting that played GW1 for like a few months and actually didn’t know what the game was about.

Anyone else think that this is poorly done?

Obtaining weapon skins: out of all the methods that anet has done, now they’re resorting to boxes where you could potentially buy thousands and not even get a ticket?
Sure, you have a month to get it, but really, why change to a method that involves a ton of RNG compared to what they did before involving bauble baubles or sweaters/socks/whatever? At least some progression is made when they work towards getting the skin.

Dragon ball: Compared to the Wintersday pvp minigame, this is kind of lackluster. There’s not that much about it to be said.

Moa racing: Pay 50s to watch a bunch of moas run, if you win, great. nothing special

There’s also no jumping puzzle, but that’s not such a big deal. My major gripe is with RNG boxes for skins though. Not everyone gets lucky and that can be pretty upsetting when they have to go through thousands of boxes, and potentially not even get a single ticket.

tl;dr – event seems pretty kitten/poorly done after looking at the minigames and not much thought process went into the method of obtaining skins. (progression-based to RNG-based)

Stopped playing for a long time because of:

1) Ludicrously slow rate of balancing and once-a-month patches (and often balancing is just skipped)

2) Their philosophy is slow balancing to prevent whack-a-mole balance, but that has already happened. Poor solutions (nerf the one viable ele build in such a way that further breaks many other non-viable builds, BLINDLY nerf Quickness across the board which ended up breaking Frenzy, and to this day Sigil of Rage and all traits regarding Quickness have not been compensated. Others, like buffing Wars in PvP by strengthening their PvE, are just not the best solution. Updates are too infrequent for their philosophy to even work.

3) Lack of communication with the community. Responses like Soon™ or “We are aware of the situation and have a secret in-house solution we made while completely ignoring the community’s suggestions, but it will be super awesome just wait and see!” responses don’t count.

4) Too much focus on temporary content. Yes, Anet has stated that Living Story development is with a separate team and doesn’t interfere with regular development, but those resources can be much better allocated.

5) Does not fix non-critical bugs. And I have personally reported tons of bugs (some multiple times through multiple ways) since beta/launch days that have not been fixed.

If this keeps up, probably will stop playing again.

  • The core combat mechanics are bad/overly simplified.
  • Auto-attacking is sufficient to easily get through 99% of the content.
  • Skills are very generic. No choice in skills.
  • Most traits are ineffectual and barely change anything.
  • The AI is terrible.

If this game required a subscription, it would have died faster than AOC/WAR/SW:TOR.

I just popped a holo projector in Iron Marches which brought the Orr holos out and it drew two warthogs to boot. Not counting the initial KD, and two evades I was knocked down and/or stunned SEVEN TIMES IN A ROW before I could even begin the fight.

For the love of all that is holy, STOP WITH THE ENDLESS CC in this game from every freaking mob. It is not “challenging” it is not fun it is strictly infuriating and pointless and drags fights out for absolutely no reason.

Getting pulled a half dozen times in ten seconds by spiders is MADDENING. Getting constantly locked down because every enemy in the area can do a knockdown or stun is MADDENING. Stop. With. The. Ceaseless. CC.

Log in and chop down 5 trees, salvage some junk i had to go get off low level mobs, maybe do a boring easy dungeon, and talk to the laurel vendor. I then receive my anet issued 1 laurel per day. Then Proceed to find a group for fractals a dungeon I have run 9001 times so I can have a shot at a ring and my anet issued 1 pristine relic per day. Look down at my keyboard and think well guess i have no reason to be online anymore till tomorrow, but hey in 2 months ill have a piece of jewelry that is 5% better than the one that took me 5 minutes to get.

This is the endgame in GW2… doing dailies. Who would of thought a company could take one of the worst things introduced in world of warcraft and build a game around it.

Are they ever going to make this game interesting past leveling up and exploring?

Reroll another class, the more engineers that do that hopefully will show them enough data that they need an overhaul asap, not turret fixes not grenade nerfs but real life fixes to their weapons..

And even if they don’t you’ll still feel better on a class that works..i personally had a engi i loved but i haven’t touched it in months..

Believe me I’ve tried. I hit content burnout at level forty with a ranger, and twenty-five with a thief. An entirely separate thread could be made on this issue, but the simple fact is that, at least to me, the leveling content in this game just isn’t fun after the first time though.

Clearly that idea of the zones feeling different and still being exciting each time you go through them because of dynamic events didn’t exactly work out as intended.

All of the things everyone above has listed is WHY I play Guild Wars 2. Because in games where that’s the norm, I don’t end up staying.

Yep, the farmers and end game progression people are definitely unhappy, and they’re not shy to say so. Okay.

That doesn’t make Guild Wars 2 a bad game. That makes Guild Wars 2 a good game for some people. The very things you detest are the very things that I look forward too.

Take the complaints about bashing pinatas.

If you go and bash every single pinata to get an achievement all at once, it’s boring as hell. If you bash some pinatas every single time you go to LA within the time limit of the festival, you’ll probably get the achievment for it without grinding.

You could stand and farm projectors on day one when everyone was doing it, or just sort of roam around and get them WHILE playing. You don’t have to farm these things. Most of them you’ll get.

I get it. You want to sit in Orr and run the same event chains over and over. And I’m sad that you can’t do it. I’m not saying that in just either. I wish you could play that way…but that you can’t doesn’t make Guild Wars 2 a bad game. It makes it a game unsuited to your play style.

Where as Rift and WoW are totally unsuited to mine.

My feeling, and it is just a feeling, is this. I think it matters little to Anet if people who have already purchased the game are playing anymore, unless their playing is bringing in revenue (gem purchases). Since they already have the purchase price of the game, the goal now is to somehow increase gem purchases even if they alienate players in the process. Why should they care if players leave who are no longer generating income?

I am not trying to be overly cynical, I think the changes to this game have simply been the result of nuts and bolts business decisions about how to keep the game earning.

Maybe they are right….because they already have my money for buying the game. Unless they can somehow manipulate me into buying gems they are not going to make any more from me. That’s business.

IDK why you’d change them. Now you took a grind and made it a “Pause, Wait, & Grind” Just because people were overzealous on day one, doesn’t mean daddy has to come lord over it.

I was having a lot of fun last night setting a bomb, trigger the holo, and watching them blow up! It wouldn’t kill them outright but, it truly was a blast! Just enough damage to tag too.

This is something we needed to work out on our own. Besides, being a low level alt, they aren’t THAT easy to solo. No one’s going to be doing them after they get the achievement. As a developer, Anet should realize how OCD their gamers are by now

Thus, please revert them back as it was more fun!

Anet are possibly the least engaged developers i’ve ever come across. They hardly use their own forums, instead prefering reddit or twitter, and they provide verylittle information or feedback.

They seam not to care about longstanding issues and bugs, and the quantity and quality of content released leads me to question just how many people are working on the game, because it does not seam many unless there is some huge update in the works. I compare gw2 contet to rift in the first year and the difference is massive, and uet i doubt that anet are going to release an ember isle size update anytime soon…

What, the developers have plenty of time for their community.

They respond in obviously very important threads like this. Also, there are a bunch of game breaking bugs like this one that need dev attention before dungeons, because obviously, no one can play the game when an NPC is running around asking random questions. Not to mention, this guy right here had a problem with his personal story quest, I mean, who could leave someone like that standing in the cold? This guy even had such a game breaking bug, he solved it himself! He just had to read his mail! Luckily the devs tried to help him though.

I mean, the Devs need to manage their time correctly, don’t you think?

/s

TL;DR: Anet doesn’t give a flying toss about their dungeon community. This idea is only enforced by the fact that they continuously ninja nerf harmless things like the dredge skipping cage jump and add some boulders in snowblind etc, while completely ignoring every outcry of the community on actually game-breaking issues.

Yes, they drop very frequently.
I bought 250 Dragon Coffers on the TP, after opening about 25 I got a ticket ^^

And the person who opened 1000 and got nothing cares to disagree. Welcome to the RNG casino, where the house (anet) refuses to tell you the odds, but why would they when they have all the idiots out there buying up the lotto tickets in droves, and then all the fan boy white knights defending them for this practice. As long as these people exist in the game, Anet will not change its practices.

After me and many many people final saw glimmer of hope that this and future events had finally got a solid way for us to buy skins they introduce we only find that we have been cheated out of the money we WORK for again. youre fan love the art and design of these weapons but dont you understand, we can enjoy the event till we at least have one off these skins as it just feels like we have missed out on the most important and best part. i know you could say just dont buy them but i honestly thought we had a good chance of a drop this time. if your going to do this then at least tell us the drop rate fact instead of cheating us. i know alot of people are heartened by this and i would be surprised if a lot of people quit now. this is not the way a GAME should be ran. seriously, i would rather you not put any skins in at all.

I’ll post a TL;DR after to give a quick rundown of the issue… Also this post isn’t to say “GIVE ME ASCENDED GEAR NOW!” it’s to say “Give me ways to gear my alts as well as my main.” I say this now because my mixture of ranting and pointing out the issues with the system sometimes get jumbled. Anyway onward with the post!

The ascended gear is supposed to have moderate time constraints to keep players from just dinging max level and gearing up so fast that they have nothing to do… But the current system is designed so you have to focus on 1 and only 1 character due to the time gates being larger and larger with each piece of ascended gear added…backs will not be covered because they can be crafted. Let me elaborate.

FOTM came to the game… Level 10+ you had a chance to get one of the rings per day…. The rng was a bit excessive so they added a +1 relic system where 10 relics = 1 ring…

Time gate for FOTM rings 1-10 days per 1 ring… This isn’t bad I can gear my main and my alts in a reasonable amount of time… The system honestly good and the difficulty wasn’t terrible. The laurl aspect was excessive though it should use a 10 laurl per ring since it’s the same as the relics.

Onward to amulets and daily laurls!! This one is where it started to get a bit excessive…. 1 amulet = 30 laurls or 20 laurls 250 badges of honor… 1 1/2 amulets per month tops…. Little alt unfriendly but not as excessive as this next one.

Now to the guild missions and accessories…. These ones are the worst for people in small guilds who would rather stick to playing with friends… Most missions require a minimum of 10 people to actually do properly… Anyway you have a chance to get a accessory from the chest after a guild mission or you can save tokens do all guild missions for 6 per week so 1-14 day thing granted you can make each guild mission PER accessory. On paper this looks fine but onward to the major issue!

Accessories to players unable to do guild missions or who prefer not to do them! A whopping 40 laurls + 50 ecto PER ACCESSORY so a total of 80 laurls 100 ecto…. Honestly I subbed feedback on this because honestly it’s like punishing the players who are unable to do guild missions or would rather do other content…… This not only takes MONTHS to get 2 for 1 set but it digs into the amulets and rings if you don’t do the fractals for rings

This is causing issues in wanting to really focus on alts… The sheer time gating to gear 1 character is getting excessive…. The bare minimum getting rings from fractals and then focusing on laurls for the rest is going to take 3 months for 1 character….. Imagine when they finish adding ascended gear armor and weapons…. This is going to go up by at least 50×....

This post is mainly to point out how un alt friendly the ascended gear is at the moment… As time goes on this is going to become worse…. Imagine when they are done adding the full set of armor/weapons/accessories it will take a minimum of 12 months to gear 1 character.

Anyways

TL;DR
Ascended gear is taking to long to get per character forcing you to focus on 1 character at a time over a long period of time discouraging alts.

Is that there is quite a large aspect revolving around grind/huge amounts of gold required.

100k zhaittafies. Sure there is the “Just buy from TP” but that emphasis on spending money but if you don’t want the “instant method” and want to get it on your own through normal play, it would take hours upon hours. There was a post on reddit where an example was from a user who said they got around 30 taffies in 10 minutes, so we assumed that if you managed to get 180 an hour (which I feel is quite a stretch of an assumption) that to get 100k you would need to spend 555.5 continous hours to achieve 100k.

The other issue is the moa racing a simple gold sink; a thread on reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1g1ntk/moa_race_math/ did some maths and came to the conclusion that the minimum gambling cost for the mini would be around 28.4g (cost will vary but being based on a 1/5 chance of winning races)

The immediate feel I got when I saw these things were “goldsink” and “time sink” (if you want to grind your own 100k candies).

The event itself is great but there is that feel that goldsink is quite a large factor behind this entire event. I’d like to hear from the decision who thought “100,000” items were needed to gain an item. if you were to exaggerate it and make it sound worse, you could say “One tenth of a million”.

I’m just confused by the decisions made from these new content updates, one moment it’s
“Halloween: you can only get these cool skins from RNG gemstore”

then it’s
“Wintersday: you can buy whatever skin you want from the gemstore!”

then
“Southsun: you can get these new crates that give out freebies AND they drop from normal monsters! AND we are throwing you a 200%MF boost to help you further!”

and now..
“Dragonbash: grind for your 100k taffies or buy them from the TP, also spend more gold on the moa racing not small bets like 10s or such but 50s per bet”

I always keep trying to think that GW2 is a new MMO that is trying to appeal to casual gamers and not the old MMO players who simply just grinded.

This latest Dragonbash event really does feel like Arenanet are taking steps backwards. I feel incredibly sorry for new players who haven’t been playing that long. 50s for a bet? that would probably put a huge dent in their funds.

edit: oh and one more thing, I feel kinda sad for those who are buying the “rich” coffers and aren’t getting much from them considering they are meant to be more generous. They don’t seem to be more ‘generous’. Let’s say the normal coffers have a 5% chance of a ticket, the rich roffers should have at least a 35%+ chance for a weapon ticket. It looks terrible how people are wanting to support Anet but still end up frustrated after 20+ coffers with nothing to show for it. And it feels terrible to tell others to no bother buying from the gemstore because it’s a rip off. Regardless of RNG it’s just a poor way to treat your valued customers, if they’re not supporting the game, who is?

Getting Frustrated & Disappointed With GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Beligerent.1324

Beligerent.1324

I started playing GW2 because I thought the whole point of this game was not to force the player to grind like so many other MMOs do. And yet as soon as you get to endgame, the only endgame options that are really there is to grind.

  • FOTM= Grind!
  • You want that dungeon armor set? Grind the hell out of that dungeon until you end up venomously hating dungeons!
  • Want that awesome weapon skin from the event?! Well first you have a 0.004% chance to get the crate, and then you have another 0.004% chance to get a weapon skin ticket in that crate. Basically, more grind!

ANet, you’ve created an endless cycle of grind for endgame, and you lied to everyone who bought your game. I love GW2 but it has in no way delivered on it’s promises.

Our reactions to farming nerfs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AnthonyOrdon

The latest case of “farming nerfs” was actually a bug fix. I’m aware of this because I was asked to help identify the issue. The area in question contained a spawn that was defined to have more creatures than spots for those creatures to spawn. So for example, 25 skelks spawning on 10 points. This is not intended. Not only does it just look absurd, it’s also leads to some extremely bizarre play conditions. This is one of those bugs that’s so buggy, the fact that our toolset even allowed this to happen is a bug. Another bug caused this bug. Bugception.

If we didn’t want players to be able to farm, we wouldn’t have put in the huge (and free) magic and gold find buffs for Southsun Cove. We wouldn’t drop loot from the giant mobs of creatures that appear in upscaled events. We certainly wouldn’t have put in chests that appear after events which cycle every 8 to 10 minutes. How quickly all of that content goes completely forgotten in the angered responses to a simple change to an area that was clearly bugged. :/

On farming in general, there’s a sweet spot that combines good loot with fun, engaging content. I think Southsun had that going for it, especially before certain aspects of the content were isolated as optimal. As someone who’s actively working on upcoming Living World releases, I’m aiming to find that sweet spot and hit it in a big way.

I logged on to GW1 for the first time in ages the other day to check my birthday presents, and I was stunned by just how much better the entire guild interface was in GW1.

Last online, recruitment date, ranks split into sections, separate Guest and Invitee sections and a guild announcement that’s editable without losing the current text and that appears on log-on. Hell, in the History section, I could even see when a current member was invited and when they actually joined. It recognises that distinction!

Seriously, GW2’s engine is just an updated version of the GW1 engine. How the hell did all this stuff get stripped out in the transition from 1 to 2?!
It’s an embarrassment.

LIVING WORLD

Last Stand at Southsun

Help Inspector Kiel track down Canach, the villain behind the increased animal aggression and the focused attacks on Consortium settlements. Canach’s intent is to destroy the settler contracts (and punish Subdirector NOLL for his vendetta against Canach).
Players must work together to protect the settlements and the innocents within from the crazed horde’s sustained assault, ultimately allowing Inspector Kiel to destroy the records and free the settlers from their unfair commitments without harming any of the island’s residents. This sets the stage for the upcoming Dragon Bash festival to happen without settler unrest spoiling the festivities.

Open World

Note: All this open world content takes place on the Southsun Cove map.

Even if you manage to capture Canach, can you also foil his master plan? Defend the new settlers on Southsun Cove from a massive final onslaught of rampaging wildlife or die trying! And beginning June 4, a hulking monstrosity joins the fray—without your help, it will destroy the settlers and everything they’ve built!

  • Added new island-wide meta-event where players defend and liberate the new settlements across Southsun Cove. If players hold all four settlements, merchants will become available with unique items, and there is a chance that an Enraged Karka Queen boss will spawn.
  • The Enraged Karka Queen boss event rewards large boss chests like other world bosses and gives two guaranteed rare or better items once per day.
  • Added four new items as rare rewards to all Southsun Cove content. These items are tradable and soulbound on use.
    • Mini Reef Rider: Your very own exotic miniature version of the reef rider. Hurry, because this limited-edition item only drops for the next two weeks!
    • Settler’s Keepsake: An exotic accessory with toughness, healing, and condition damage stats.
    • Settler’s Amulet: An exotic amulet with toughness, healing, and condition damage stats.
    • Settler’s Ring: An exotic ring with toughness, healing, and condition damage stats.

Still Available in Southsun Cove

  • Wild animals (karka, reef drakes, wind riders) continue to exhibit more aggressive behavior.
  • Visitors trapped by the hostile wildlife need to be escorted to safety.
  • The crazed wildlife will attack new and existing settlements on the island; players must fend off the attack and defend the sites.
  • More robust resource nodes to harvest, providing passiflora flowers and fruit, karka shells, and other island-specific resources.
  • Players can view the interactions between two high-profile tourists on the island: Lord Faren and Lady Kasmeer.
  • The “Crab Toss” activity is still available.

Instances

  • Added new Canach single-player story boss encounter.
  • Added explorable multiplayer variant (unlocked if you defeat Canach).
  • Added new single-player instance for the culmination of the story.

Achievements

  • New content-based and story-based achievements designed to encourage play on the Southsun Cove map.

Guild Content

  • Added a new guild puzzle to Snowden Drifts.

NEW FEATURES AND CONTENT

We think that Warriors need more sustain in sPvP. You’ll see this reflected in upcoming balance changes.

Traits are huge in this, and just like you saw trait reworks recently for Warrior, we’ll be doing more trait changes to help to this end.

It’s Sunday, but I still wanted to jump in here to let you guys know we’re not ignoring you!

Finally an answer That may be the start of the Warrior “new era” :P
Everyone here hope for some nice improvements in next 2 patches.
And if you need ideas, GW2 forums are full of them

We read the forums a lot more than you know. Karl/Peters and I actually print out threads sometimes and bring them to balance meetings.

We’re not ignoring any of the classes, I’m sorry if people feel that way. We simply don’t have time to personally post in all threads, on all our sub-forums.

New Legendaries / Rework

Colin: If I could make a suggestion: Let not this “quest” be to gather more materials than we already need to(fear it turning into a..grind), but a legendary, epic, long, DIFFICULT quest/story chain.

One where the last mission is some mechanically challenging fight that you must solo(no grouping)..not a tank and spank, don’t throw 100 adds at us. A fight that can take 10-15 minutes to solo, one that will cause many wipes and deaths. One that not everybody can do.

I garuntee, it’ll feel epic and legendary then.

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.

Is there any sort of timeline on this? It was first stated over 6 months ago I believe. Is this something that is going to happen in the next few months? 6 more months? A year? 10 years? Obviously you can’t give us an exact date, but some sort of rough timeline would be nice.

We’ve learned we really can’t give timelines, since if we’re ever wrong a mob comes after us with torches and pitchforks I can say we started designing this, and realized the proper (not hacked in quick) solution needs to be a part of bigger systems that more clearly directs players as well as ties in comprehensive rewards for playing across our game world, which we’re currently working on right now.

Some small parts of that comprehensive plan for game reward systems are already rolling out this month with the updates to WvW rank rewards.

karma to gold via temple armors

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vol.5241

I really don’t recommend selling karma. Karma is actually pretty hard to get. It just doesn’t seem that way because you often don’t spend it and it accumulates rather slowly.

Imagine you spend 1.5 million karma and then Arenanet releases a bunch of new karma items that are valuable? It’s gonna be hard to get that karma in a reasonable time frame (especially since Plinx farm was nerfed a long time ago)

On a side note, it’s very efficient to save the karma from the jugs. Karma itself is not transferrable between characters but the jugs are. They are pretty cheap solutions for armor if you decide to craft-level a new character to 80 and want lvl 80 exotic gear.
