I understand what their intentions were when they removed solo queue. If matchmaking really was all that and the point system (odds of win/lose) is actually working as intended, then it shouldn’t matter whether you win or lose.
The point of the matter is, it’s not just an unfair matchmaking that further skews mmr results, but it simply isn’t fun.
Rank: Top 250 since Season 2
#5 best gerdien in wurld
The fact that the system allegedly stacks odds against solo players actually gives me an incentive to play in teams more often than not. Even when I wasn’t apart of a fantastic pvp guild, I would always try to grab a friend or two to play with me which helped make me a better pvper in general and made the game more fun.
I don’t think the solo experience should be absolutely terrible in the game, but I’m also happy that gw2 makes it obvious the exploring content (in all 3 game modes) with friends will make the gaming experience that much better.
I never said I wanted to become a better player but wanted to play a fair game where im not vs 3-5 man try hard premade on voice comm while solo Qing. If I wanted a serious challenge I wouldnt be playing this game in the first place.
I knew people would bring this up… So pls stop the stupid argument about ‘’oh I like the challenge when the odds are against me’’. This is bullkitten no offense. Why the odds should be against me when I payed the same amount of money as everybody else to play the game?
I didn’t know where to post such a request so I’m hoping that if this is not the appropriate place then you can forward it to where it needs to go.
I’ve been playing guild wars with the same group of people since around Factions from the original Guild Wars. We’re all 30 – 50 years old, most of us married and all of us, spouses included, have played Guild Wars together for around 10 years. We’ve become good friends over the years, some visiting others IRL, and a couple even moving to be closer to another couple just because they became such good friends. The consistent enjoyment through the years has been Guild Wars, people have come and gone from the guild but there was a core that always stayed together.
A week ago today, June 4th, a member of our tight knit group was killed in a car accident. He was cut off by a semi trailer, he was able to swerve just enough to ensure that the full impact of the crash happened on his side of the vehicle, sparing the life of his son who was in the passenger seat. This was an incredibly shocking tragedy and has shook his family and our “gaming family” to its core. His wife, who also plays, has been battling cancer for some time now and to watch something so horrible happen to such an amazing couple has been heart breaking.
I’m emailing to request a small gesture that would mean the world to our gaming family. Is it possible to place a monument or grave marker of some sort in our upcoming guild hall? Somewhere prominent, somewhere that we can all gather in game to pay our respects, tell stories, or just be there to feel like there is still a part of him playing with us.
I’ll be happy to privately provide his account info and anything else you might need if you could make this happen.
You really don’t know how much something like this would mean to us all. Thanks for your time and all of the memories, regardless of the answer.
+1 Thank
you for showing us the facts number don’t lie.Need to take into account the context.
Gw1 and Gw2 are two very different games.
of course there is someone talking about context, same company same stuff they got lazy and greedy.
Spent all day yesterday making this up, to compare what we received content wise from ArenaNet in the past with their other expansions to what has been officially announced so far with Heart of Thorns.
I will continue to update this as more info is revealed with Heart of Thorns, but here is what we have so far, enjoy!
Edit: This comparison is based off of features that were DAY 1 features and not added at a later date.
Update 6/20/15: Updated the comparison to include Heroes from Nightfall and Eye of the North, also added The Falls (unconfirmed name) as a zone under HoT since there has been more or less been confirmed from live streams that a zone is in that area.

Just want to clarify since I saw this come up a couple of times in this thread and we haven’t actually released our full official patch notes for 6/23 yet….
Ascended Gear will be staying 5% better than Exotic Gear. Gear beyond the tiers we already have are not going to be added and our existing tiers won’t change, they won’t be our main end-game form of progression for your characters/account for all the reasons we’ve covered before – it isn’t what we think Gw2 is about.
Masteries is being added to PvE to help provide this system as our form of progression for PvE moving forward, and the WvW ability system exists for WvW and will be what we use to expand WvW in the future.
To more directly answer some of your point….We are adding a system that lets you change the stats for your ascended gear (weapons and armor) next Tuesday – which will cost a combination of 10 spirit shards, piece you don’t want anymore, 5 ectos, and an exotic insignia of the stats you want to convert to. Legendary Gear will remain the gear that can freely change stats any time.

Right now it doesn’t really feel like we are getting value for our money.
This might change if it turns out they add more content to the expansion, or we get some uploads on youtube that really show the scope of the expansion pack.
Right now it feels like, at least in my opinion, that you’re charging as much as a whole sundae just to put a cherry on top.
The base game is massive, I’m still exploring things I’ve never seen before, and you want to charge a full games price for what is maybe 10% of the entire current world?

1) There should be an option to buy the expac only – pricing to reflect that.
2) Reviews of the actual expac should be read before purchase.
3) Anet ought to post an official reply to alleviate concerns.

Here also to add my voice to the rest of the folk who find the pricing a bit high or off. As of this moment i haven’t seen anything that would justify a 50 euro price for HoT. I will probably wait untill the expansion is out, see what the actuall content on offer is (cause up untill now we don’t even know how many maps this expansion includes or that elusive challenging content we keep hearing about), see what the competition offers (don’t forget Blade and Soul is comming also, plus loads of single player games too) and then decide if i’ll wait for the sale or abandon ship completely. I really really hope the trait system changes they’re pushing us to beta test next week are good.

I dont think there is that much content left to show us, so if this is it, i hope a meteor descends and shatters that horrible price to something more realistic

50$ is a bit much for me, especialy if I compare to Heavensward. I was waiting for Anet to release more info about HoT before buying but so far, I don’t see anything justifying this price.
Sad :/

$50/€40/£35 is too much for an expansion – it’s 45€ to start with.
And yes, so far the x-pac looks like roughly 20-30% extra content compared to base. So the price is not yet justified in my eyes.
I want to buy Heart of Thorns on it’s own – this too. If i link HoT with my base game account i’m saying farewell to 5 new slots i would get with new account, but i don’t like running an account farm here.
The Expansion adds a new class, but does not add a new character slot – and finally this. I got an empty slot for reve, but that’s still just being sleezy. It’s common courtesy to give slots for new professions/jobs/classes especially if they’re payed content (and you can’t play revenant without x-pac).
If only one of the above can be tallied up in the poll, then #1 would be it. HoT has yet to proof to me it’s worth the 5/6 of the game’s launch price.

My god i just logged in, this is beyond ridonkulous, slapped in the face with absurd upgrades if i can even call them that.
1. i don’t want another copy of the base game, just the expansion.
2. A free char slot is a given with a new class.
By all means it’s a great deal for new players but come on… give us a standalone HoT+ char slot for 35$ or something.
I don’t remember these shenanigans with GW1. This is not about being spoiled when people blindly defend stuff like this it will be seen as normal and no it is not.

To be honest, I am quite appalled by this. I’m sure many have said that before me in here, but this purchase plan only benefits those who don’t have the base game already. This is telling us that we must buy it again, which sounds rather quirky to me.
For new players, it is a bargain. For existing users, this is complete nonsense, and this has effectively cut me off from getting the expansion right away, as I was planning on it.
I don’t mean to devalue the content of the expansion, but I hope they’ll make it available for us game-owners to actually get it without spending money on something we already have.

I’m probably not going to buy the expansion unless it gets cheaper cause that is really ridiculous. I’ve been here since launch there isn’t very much of anything for us who have played since the beginning- SURE new players get something awesome- we get nothing.

Semantically, Beorn is right. For all practical purposes, I’m with OP. There is no way I will pay full-game price for an expansion. I said long ago, 20, maybe as high as 30. But not 50.
This is downright insulting.
Deceiver….please…
Let’s not lie to ourselves here. This is the pricing for everyone. Period.
Let’s also not forget that while an extra character slot is 10 USD they are selling the version of this expansion for 75 USD, or basically 25 dollars more than the standard version without an additional character slot.
And no, that other nonsense in game cosmetic fluff is not worth the additional 15 dollars there. The slot should have been a part of the standard package, but hey greed wins out again I guess.
I already had no intention on buying the expansion pack unless it truly wowed me and the price is right. I refuse to pre-order or do anything of the sort until I have a solid understanding of exactly what I’m getting. I hate hype. And ANet seems to love hyping things up.
But frankly, this move is just bad business logic. ANet has enough money-grabbing economists and corporate financial advisers to understand this would cut massively into profits not too far down the road, and make a ton of people just leave the game altogether from bad business, especially as other games are coming out around the corner this fall.
This is absolutely a money-grab to get people to pay the $50 for the beta access/rush pre-purchase and the expansion itself as add-on content will probably go on sale for substantially less afterwards.
If it doesn’t? Then ANet will see a substantial drop in profits and user activity very soon. No sweat off my back. Frankly, I hope we see more bleepslaps and players as a whole start holding companies accountable more per the style of paid mods for Skyrim on Steam.
We’ve barely got any info and people are complaining, though.
I also think it’s hilarious since so many people were crying for a paid expansion, many of which are now crying about the paid expansion being unwanted and bringing in bad content. They’ve been blind for the past few years obviously as the game has slowly gotten corrupted by sub-par updates and typical MMO-business practices.
There’s still not enough information to start raising a skrittstorm, though.

So, although people bought gw2 for cheap to get into the game, they could’ve waited this whole time to just buy the expansion and get the core game for free….
Just wow….
As for people who bought the game from the beginning, we basically are buying the whole game all over again.
I don’t think words can express how much of a rip off this is…

I just hope when HoT IS released, that there IS $50 to $99.99 worth of content making it exit. Cause if this expansion runs like a Living Story…. ohhh boy, I am gonna be… mighty angry. Cause honestly? I don’t feel like ANet is “giving” anything to us, to be honest with you.

50 bucks and no character slot?
Time to renew my wow membershipSpend nearly $50 for 3 months of content in the games worst xpac or spend $50 for what will probably be roughly 2 years of no sub required content? Makes sense, go for it dude I think you’re on to something.
Oh and have fun spending $50 on their next xpac.
At least they tell you the truth about what they are going to charge you, intead of selling you something, advertised as a sale for an upcoming expansion, for $10, and then three months later giving what they sold you away with the expansion, for free.
I’ve been playing since the BWEs, and this pricing sucks for everyone who owns the game, but I honestly feel the people who got the shortest end of the stick here are the newest wave of players. I mean, they just flat out got conned out of 10 bucks by ANet, there is no other way of looking at it except as theft in broad daylight.
(edited by Conncept.7638)
When you pre-order a game, you are paying a developer for doing nothing but putting together pretty trailers. Digital download games are available in unlimited quantities, meaning that scarcity will not be an issue. There is literally no reason to pre-purchase a digital product for any reason. To those of you typing replies that go along the lines of “but what about pre-order bonuses,” is a title worth rewarding a practice that’s inherently anti-consumer?
Whether you think $50 is fair or a slap in the face, don’t pay until release. A developer shouldn’t get a cent until they deliver a quality product, whether you’re suspicious of them or adore them.

No additional character slot and a rather content limited expansion for 50 bucks is not fine sorry. Even Aion´s free expansion shows more promise than this Guild Hall Sims 3 wannabe.

The price is not fine, it is borderline.
If it was fine people would not be complaining.
It’s really starting to tick me off. For 6 days, non stop, I have grinded the hell out of silverwastes, no beta portal has dropped…. Why is it based on RNG when clearly RNG has hatred for giving people things when others get it multiple times within minutes???? How about a little diversity…. this farming thing, sure its a good idea, but it really isnt for everyone. Instead, how about mix it up by creating several pools to draw beta contestants from… EX::
1) Original pre-order clients
2) Amount of Achievement points on the account
3) Number Of hours played on the account
4) Amount of cash to gem purchases
5) Random draw from all accounts
6) People who have the beta portal.
This would create a diverse situation where everyone has a true chance of participation instead of just those who have the luck of the kitten RNG gods!
I understand that this beta portal thing was implemented to aware beta spots to active players. But how the hell is it at all justified that someone who just purchased the game gets beta access over someone who has been playing since the original beta and has over 3500 hours on the account…….
Its just annoying as hell to be playing one kitten map, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over……………….. doing the same event, for one little piece of crap that will never drop for you simply because the RNG hates you….
I mean seriously.
k…. my rant is over now….
