Please stop once-per-day content

There seems to be a growing amount of once-per-day content. A few daily quests were fine, but now we have personal ore nodes and once-a-day charged quartz creation, and from a look at the upcoming crafting rumours it seems it’s going to get a lot worse.

Can’t we just play the game at our own pace? One of the great things about the game mechanics and the payment model is that it allows people to play as and when they want without penalising them. Once-per-day content ruins this.

Please don’t let this great game degenerate into a repetitive daily grind, inhabited by nothing but lifeless addicts, like certain other MMOs which will remain nameless!

1) Mr. E sent us messages during the Dragon Bash festival:

Before Ceremony and Acrimony

Council Threat

<Player name>,

You may not know me, but I know you. I’m calling upon you because you’re capable in the face of danger. If you consider yourself a force for good in this world, then I implore you to attend the Dragon Bash ceremony in Lion’s Arch. I’ve heard whispers about a threat to the Ship’s Council and, if left unchecked, to the city itself. I’d intervene myself, but circumstances prevent it.

I’d wish you luck, but luck is what fools and idiots require to stay alive. You, I believe, are neither.

I will surely contact you again,

Before Hard Boiled

E

Seek out Marjory Delaqua

<Player name>,

The situation has worsened. One of the Lion’s Arch councillors, Theo Ashford, has succumbed to his wounds. The Lionguard is keeping the new quiet while the festival continues, but they’re overwhelmed trying to maintain security in the city. At this very moment, a killer walks free, and this cannot be allowed.

Go to Divinity’s Reach, to the Eastern Commons. There, in a back alley bar called the Dead End, you’ll find one of the best investigative minds in Tyria, Marjory Delaqua. She will need your help to find those behind the councillor’s death. Tell her E sent you. Work with her, sift through the clues, and solve the crime.

I will surely contact you again,

—E

Mail: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dragon_Bash_mail#Dragon_Bash:_Effigy_Ceremony

He claimed he heard ‘whispers,’ huh? Gnashblade was foreshadowing the assassination of Theo Ashford. Perhaps he has an affiliation with the Order of the Whispers.

At The Dead End bar, Video

Captain Logan Thackeray: Marjory Delaqua?
Marjory Delaqua: If it suits you.
Captain Logan Thackeray: It suits me just fine. I want to hire you. There’s been a murder. Lion’s Arch councillor Theo Ashford is dead, and I want to know who’s responsible.
Marjory Delaqua: Sounds like a job for the Lionguard. What’s got you piqued?
Captain Logan Thackeray: Between you and me, Ashford’s an old friend of the family. I want to make sure they find his killer.
Marjory Delaqua: I see. And you don’t trust the Lionguard.
Captain Logan Thackeray: Let’s just say I’m hedging my bets. The pay’s good. You in?
Marjory Delaqua: How can I say no to Captain Lo–
Captain Logan Thackeray: No names. I was never here.
Marjory Delaqua: Maybe not, but your money is. I’m in.
Captain Logan Thackeray: Lady Kasmeer. What are you doing in a place like this?

Logan Thackeray doesn’t trust the Lionguard, and what’s up with his reaction to Lady Kasmeer’s presence in The Dead End. My theory about Lady Kasmeer that she acts as an eye for Mr. E. Maybe Evon Gnashblade sent her to Maryjory Delaqua to meet your Character. Also she was present at the Southsun to see what really happened to Black Lion Trading Company’s competitor, the Consortium, and saw who refugees signed a contract for them to work in Southsun and never leave. Lady Kasmeer also oversaw the investigation on Theo Ashford’s murder. Kasmeer is maybe a member of Order of the Whispers. If Mr. E is indeed Evon Gnashblade then he has good intentions.

The Consortium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awTiVt2zum4

Speaking to Marjory
You’re showing an unnatural and unhealthy interest in my business. Is there something I can do for you?
> E sent me to help. (Player’s reply)
Is that so? I shouldn’t be surprised. This isn’t the first time he’s provided what I needed before I even knew I needed it.

2) Scarlet is Ellen Kiel. Kiel knew her way around Aetherblade Retreat… hmmm and she knew how to operate those Inquest control panel. Mind you, everything about Thaumanova Reactor is Inquest, The Aetherblade Pirates are quite friendly with the awry Asura. If Ellen was fortunate to win the position: “I’ll support important Fractals of the Mists research into the Thaumanova Reactor explosion by the end of the year.”

During the cinematic at Aetherblade Retreat

Mai Trin: This has all gone to crud. Scarlet’s gonna have my noggin for screwing up.

Kiel did not fight Frizz and Mai Trin. Kiel was so eager to blow —no, exterminate the fleeing airship along with its crew as well.
If time remains before the Aethership escapes
Inspector Ellen Kiel: I’m itching to blow that escaping airship out of the sky. Any ideas how to do that?
What’s in that airship anyway?

The agony of Charr armor. (Long read)

in Charr

Posted by: Darmikau.9413

Darmikau.9413

( For better formatting, you can find the Reddit thread here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1isd48/i_want_to_share_the_agony_of_charr_armor_and_how/ )

The short version can be found as this image: (http://i.imgur.com/EchgKFS.jpg ).The longer version goes something like this:

It’s no secret that when it comes to armor, Charr get the shortest end of the stick. If you’re human you’re at the top, followed by the other three humanoid races, likely with Asura coming in last. Pulling in far behind them are Charr. As far as my knowledge goes, issues with the armor of other races exist, but are comparably few. With Charr armor, stretching, clipping, poor texturing, and a lack of consideration are not the exception; they’re the rule. If you think tail clipping is the extent of the Charr’s issues, you have no idea how deep the rabbit hole goes. It’s been this way since launch and it’s not looking to get any better. If anything, it’s getting worse. It’s become a running joke among the Charr community about what levels stretching and clipping will reach next, and if you aren’t a Charr player yourself, here are the reasons why:

Anatomy and Culture:

Reason number one is that Charr culture and anatomy sit in a context far removed from the other races. We are a race that stand hunched, with large necks and horns, big ears and obvious tails, plus all the other various beastly features such as a muzzle, claws, and the like. Additionally, the Charr are a culture much unlike the other races. The Charr revere technology, not magic, and anything that alludes to magic is almost considered insulting within Charr society. Soldiers are the norm; and if you’re not a soldier you wear simple rags and outfits because you are of lesser use to the Legions. None of this, from anatomy to culture, is considered in Charr armor. The great irony, in fact, is that for a race so determined to be individualized from the other races, and for a race who are the direct antithesis to humans, the Charr receive nothing in the form of armor or town clothes except those which are first modeled for humans both in anatomy and context, and then grafted – stretched and mangled – to fit the Charr form. A simple scan through the gem shop confirms this. Sweaters, riding boots, vests and blossomed shirts, hoodies (for a race with horns). These are all human fashions, and while they don’t perfectly translate to the other races, they translate even less to Charr, who systematically oppose human culture. Of course, it’s not just town clothes.

Almost every armor model in the game is designed with humans and humanoids in mind first. In fact, with the exception of the cultural armors, there are, I believe, two outfits designed with Charr in mind: Vigil, and the Cook’s Outfit. If you’re asking about Citadel of Flame, we’ll get back to that. There’s a reason why I pick these two as examples: they generally conform to Charr anatomy. The Cook’s Outfit features a muzzle cage which shows that it was designed specifically with muzzles in mind. Similarly, Vigil armor features large turtlenecks and shoulderguards indicative of the Charr. Heavy Vigil also features what I presume to be a rear flap for the tail, one that was never actually modeled properly and left to clip (you can see it here: http://i.imgur.com/fl0EXGx.jpg ).

The only other reason I presume Vigil was designed with Charr in mind is because the founder was a Charr, and it seems reasonable to assume that Anet designed heavy Charr Vigil armor with Almorra Soulkeeper’s physique in mind. Even so, it still presents the typical stretching issues (and you can see it in the above image, particularly about the belt on the hip, and on the backs of the calves), and all three armor tiers have tail clipping.

Because we’ve already spent time doing the Sanctum Sprint without getting all of the rewards

you were told exactly what you would get for completing it. Apparently you thought it was worth doing. Anet doesn’t owe you anything.

If you buy a car and a month later the price drops do you go back to the dealership and demand a refund for the difference?
If you buy a video game and a week later the price drops do you go and demand the difference?
if a company offers a new bonus for signing up for its service when you are already a member do you demand they give you the sign up bonus even though you are already signed up?

This is no different.

Moa horse race lol. Do I get to be one?

Anyway… mini dragon pet?

The Moa race is a betting game taking inspiration from the 9-rings style betting mini-games from the original festivals in Gw1, but with a little more action involved for each round of bets. The bonus: this activity will remain in the game permanently in Lion’s Arch after the Dragon Bash festival ends.

You don’t get to be a Moa for this specific activity, though you never know what might pop up in future festivals! As one of the people who built roller beetle racing I’d love to see its spiritual successor in Gw2 someday, we might need to wait for beetles to pop up in game though

So once again another stealth change omitted from the patch notes. On the path after the ice elemental, more blocks were added to the boundaries to keep players from avoiding mob. This has done nothing because you can still easily run past the groups anyways, similar to the added block they added to jade maw last month.
Really can we please stop playing blocks with the environment, and actually fix the rewards system with fractal weapons.

Lamest Ending in Gaming History in my view

Ok, so I finish everything but the bonfire visit early, didn’t know Arenanet decided to cut the time in half for completion…they replied to lots of concerned players and said it would be back up “tomorrow” to finish the event…wasn’t back up till the day after. Today I heard it was ready to finish.

FINALLY I can finish that 2 month long turkey, go to Lion’s arch and NO mark on map as to where it is. Call out, get a few smartass “answers” but finally find it (it’s where you turned in all the lost items).

Interact and nothing…nothing at all…no cutscene, no buffs, no rewards, no coin, no title, only way you know you were in the right place is that that section is marked done.

That has got to get the reward for the lamest ending to a long event in gaming history.

Fractals as solution to one time content.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Darkorical.9213

Darkorical.9213

The story behind Fractals is that it is supposed to be grabbing sections of the past and letting us interact with them now.
So I would think that to enhance it and preserve one time content after a temporary event ends parts of it could be added to the fractals rotation. For example this new dungeon, if it truly is going away completely and forever, Simply strip the dungeon down to just leading the prisoners out and the final boss and add it into the rotation of fractals. Another example could be a trimmed down version of the karka event. (I for one missed it and would love to have at least saw it.)

- Get banned by Anet as a gold seller because who else is going to have that much?

- Die of malnutrition because you haven’t gotten out of your chair in six months and have been living on the nachos and beer that your friends bring over every weekend.

- Realize that if you put that much effort into Real Life you’d be married with a kid on the way and a have a decent-paying job by now.

- Take a shower already! Geesh! (Also recommended for working on Real Life, above)

- Uninstall and play another game because after this everything just gets too boring.

Why I think you're losing active players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: shaktiboi.5194

shaktiboi.5194

Just some simple feedback to Anet; not looking to trollbait or debate folks who reply here. And FWIW, I’m a “fanboy” and think GW2 has been truly one of the best MMOs since the genre began. I’ve been playing them for that long and have played or beta-tested most of them. And I have 5 level 80 chars here in GW2 with three of them fully-tricked out in exotics or better. And I have participated heavily in all end game content, especially WvW. (Well, I never bothered with SPvP; not my thing.)

GW2 had the potential to keep me, my spouse, my longtime casual “family and friends” guild of 9 years, and my longer-time -very large and successful- hardcore PvP guild of 13 years still actively playing even now, past the 5-6 month mark where most of us have finally hit the saturation point. Even in the face of all the new 2013 MMOs that are about to come out (I’m beta testing no less than 3 different ones this weekend.)

But your endgame content frankly fails on three very simple accounts:

1. Your dungeon content has no “middle ground” difficulty level for less skilled players. Some of you will flame this post and say that the dungeon content is “too easy” even now, but I’ve got 20 people from my longtime casual guild who will beg to differ. A guild that did fine even on the middle tier of The Secret World (“elite” difficulty) and in other games struggled -greatly- with the overall difficulty of all GW2 dungeon content. Fractals were a bit better (easier) in the lower sub-10 difficulty levels, but the time investment to finish all three + jade maw to get any substantial reward is too heavy to accomodate the realities of gameplay windows for casual gamers. I’ll say it plainly and frankly: I know he means well, but Robert Hrouda should not be influencing or guiding your dungeon design in any way, because he does not understand the needs or capability of the typical “casual” gamer. Every one of my 20-member casual guild universally hates the standard dungeon design here: the stupid, senseless way they’re made difficult (and too much so), and the terrible “all or nothing” reward design. I’ve never heard good things from my large PvP guild either. Not -one- compliment for the dungeon design here out of the nearly 500 people I know who have played this game. Robert: Are you listening? Do better next time.

2. Money is too tight and the economy is too expensive. I’ve invested more than 1000 total hours in the game and have 5 level 80 characters. I’ve -never- had more than 20 gold in reserve at any one time. I have no hope whatsoever of ever attaining a legendary weapon for any one character. The costs are just way too far out of reach. Outfitting a single character in full exo gear is just stupid expensive and I’ve always resorted to grinding slowly for yellows, breaking them down with BL Salvage kits for ectos, and regularly scouring Orr and FG for ori and ancient wood. It’s slow and time consuming. Ultimately, it has made it -impossible- for me to experiment with different builds and gearing combinations. I’ve had to make a decision every time: will this character be focused on WvW or on dungeons? I couldn’t try the same class in both environments because I couldn’t acquire the two sets of gear necessary to do so.

3. Your “guild challenge” content completely excludes small casual guilds from the process. The unlock costs are incredibly and urealistically high for a smaller casual guild. After 6 months of spending our influence on very little (overall), we couldn’t even afford the very first unlock when you rolled that content out. That was the final nail in the coffin for my small guild. We didn’t enjoy your dungeon content as a group activity, and we were holding on only to see if the “guild challenge” content would keep us engaged. Nope: you left us out in the cold.

Anyway, I’m trying to keep this feedback relatively short. At this point you’ve lost my entire casual guild and my hardcore PvP guild. There are a few of us who still log in a few times a week to mess around and check whether the Daily that day will be fast and easy, but that’s about it. Most of us are already looking for the next game. I suppose you could say “hey, keeping you around for 5-6 months is pretty good for an MMO these days”. And that would be totally true. GW2 is a really strong game. The real point of this post is that if your end-game design were more casual-friendly in the three aspects listed above, you would have kept us engaged for much longer than that.

Haka Dance Party

in Charr

Posted by: WolftheAngel.4089

WolftheAngel.4089

So I came across this idea a while ago, and I’m pretty sure someone else has though about it too. I was thinking to myself, wouldn’t it be cool if we got 50+ Charr all doing the Haka at the same time, in the same place, on the same day? Now that we have guesting it would be an awesome thing to do. Who would be interested in this?

It would have to be a day and time that everyone can get on. We might want to state the time as server time to make things easier for people. As for a place I was either thinking out in front of the lion in Lion’s Arch or in the Black Citadel somewhere.

I just think having 50+ or maybe even almost 100 Charr doing the Haka at the same time would be an epic and spin chilling event. Who’s interested?

No More New Currencies for New Rewards

in Suggestions

Posted by: Vorch.2985

Vorch.2985

When the game launched, there were 5 major currencies:

  • Gold
  • Gems
  • Karma
  • Dungeon Tokens
  • Badges of Honor

As of now, the amount of currencies has nearly doubled with the addition of:

  • Laurels
  • Commendations
  • Fractal Relics
  • Pristine Fractal Relics

I did not include Influence and Merits in this because those are earned on a per guild rather than per person basis. I also did not include sPvP currencies.

At launch, players could effectively earn the majority of the currencies with a playstyle that included 1 or 2 of the major game systems (open world PvE, WvW, Dungeons).

The consequence of all these currencies is that they all now have exclusive rewards.

  • I can not earn ascended amulets or other laurel vendor gear with by playing though dungeons, WvW, or fractals. I must do dailies to gain awards that are exclusive to dailies; therefore, I must add dailies to my playstyle.
  • I can not earn ascended earrings(accessories) by doing WvW, fractals, dungeons, or PvE. I now must add Guild Missions to my playstyle OR sacrifice a month worth of dailies + monthly + 50ecto to afford one earring.
  • I can not earn ascended rings by playing dungeons, WvW, or open world PvE. I must either add fractals and dailies to my playstyle .
  • I can not earn ascended back pieces by playing dungeons, WvW, Guild Missions, Dailies, or open world PvE. I must add fractals to my playstyle.

So, as of right now, I must do the following to gear 1 character:

  • Guild Missions
  • Fractals
  • Dailies/Monthlies
  • Dungeons/Crafting for exotic armor

God help you if you prefer playing WvW…
Oh, and by the way, I have 8 characters…

I humbly submit that you do not add any more currencies. You are not extending the goal post anymore; you are adding multiple goal posts in every kitten direction. As soon as I run one way, there’s a goal post in a COMPLETELY different direction. I consider myself “hardcore”, but this is getting extremely tiring.

To be clear, I am NOT saying that you should not add more content.

What I’d like is for rewards for new content to be tied to existing currencies.

I suggest that you:

Add all ascended gear types to

  • Guild Merits
  • Dungeons (i.e. require 3-4 gifts to make an accessory)
  • WvW
  • Fractals (edit)
  • Karma (edit)
  • CRAFTING

And for the sake of Lyssa, use NEW SKINS AS INCENTIVES INSTEAD OF STATISTICAL INCREASES. I can tell you right now those using medium armor classes really could use some options.

Skins and titles are what kept people playing in GW1; new long term goal posts every month are what’s driving wedges in the game now.

Here’s what people thought of GW1 when it first came out: http://tinyurl.com/bntcvyc

Lack of Microtransactions

I don’t really understand what Arenanet are doing. You’ve given us a free to play game, and you expect to get income from microtransactions. Why are they so rubbish?

I still cannot get my head around why Arenanet does not have a dedicated Gem Shop team that’s throwing out new outfits etc. After what, 7 months since release and there’s still only 1 armour set per armour type.

I want to invest money in the game and support the company that’s made a game I enjoy, but I can’t even throw my money at them, seems like they don’t actually want any money. So far all I’ve spent my money on is changing my hair and dyes.

Can someone explain to me how they’re supposed to be making money when all that’s changed in the gem shop is a back pack, a hair changer and a failed gender changer without a name renamer (this causing a mass population of transvestite characters running around.). There’s a few town clothing options yet the general support for roleplayers is non-existent. Why have town clothes when you can’t even sit on chairs?

If I was the person in charge of the marketing in Anet I’d cry in a corner. A microtransaction shop without hardly any updates with 7 months passed since launch.

I want to give you my money for heavens sake! Why won’t you let me?

PS: The argument of adding armour to the shop nullifies doing dungeons etc doesn’t work in a game that’s free, doing 20+ dungeon runs = time spent, which is what subscription games require you to do.
