Link or it didn’t happen, I’ve only seen the one PR announcement bs pretty much saying they’re going to ignore the negative comments and go through with it anyways. It would have been better if they’d said nothing at all instead of trying to forcefeed us their lies.

One of the FoV threads got merged into the patch feedback thread, but Colin J’s post is still there:

Hope this clarifies what I meant.

I was trying to be sarcastic and emphasize the fact that they’re trying to respond to issues they know will paint them in a positive light. Yea, they are doing something against botting and trying to solve problems and bugs. Yappity yap yap. What line could they possibly feed us in this case that won’t incite more disappointment and anger?

Exactly, so they remain quiet. They said everything they want to say in the blog posts and interview(and one forum post I think). We know their stance. Their silence basically means “Take it or leave it”.

I’m too tired to fight, to be honest. All I’m doing is ceasing my marketing(good word of mouth) and monetary support. We don’t even know what the real reason behind the change is. Some shady NC clause that enables them to demand ANet to implement these things if the sales numbers didn’t pass a certain threshold? ANet speculating on grinders to make them more money than a tiny group of casuals and old fans?
We don’t know. They can’t and won’t tell us. All we can effectively do is to stop feeding the cancer.

Ascended tier aside, that’s probably why they went with infusions. “It’s only an upgrade, it’s not gear tier!”

The Prototype Fractal Capacitor costs 1350 tokens, and the Gift is an additional 500. So the token cost is roughly on par with the cost of a full set of dungeon equipment, including weapons. For one piece.

The rate at which you get tokens, at least according to the information that that site has, is 5 tokens per ‘Fractal’, with each ‘Fractal’ taking 15-30 minutes. So the rate at which you acquire the tokens is slower than it was to get Dungeon tokens at launch (before they quadrupled the daily bonus and moved all the tokens to the last chest, in response to complaints about the massive, tedious grind).

If these numbers hold true, I’m going to have to make some more pop corn.
So much for “Hey, maybe it won’t be too that bad.”

As a side note, they are counting on the slow release of Ascended gear to contribute to the feeling of it being a longer-term goal than exotics.

That is exactly what I fear and despise. It’s a freaking shame. They are designing ascended armor to be released over months, if not years, so that you can never with any confidence say: “Now I’m done with the stat progression!”

Were Exotics really not worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ASB.4295

ASB.4295

No, because rares that drop anywhere in reasonable rates can do the job just as well. I was getting exotics not because I wanted to be feel powerful, I got them because I wanted to be done with thinking about not being as powerful as possible. It was a relieve to get them, not the pleasure of progression. You may argue that relief is pleasure, though.

Now, that I can never be 100% sure whether ANet will devalue anything I worked for, I will stick to hunting only for skins, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and ANet can never devalue my personal appreciation for the look of an item. I maybe shouldn’t say that, don’t want to jinx them introducing items with the same skin as old ones, only with a much higher resolution.

Despondent about a game I really love going this way I logged off 20 minutes later. Has anyone else felt that way?

I felt the same as you but rather quickly found a way to keep playing without feeling demoralized. Don’t play for armor. Ignore the stats. Follow your other goals, acquiring unique skins, getting titles and world completion. Transmute what drops for you on the skins you like. Don’t waste time chasing something you can’t be 100% sure you will be able to achieve.

Will more powerful gear make you play more?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ASB.4295

ASB.4295

I won’t bother with the new gear. In fact, I wont bother working towards any kind of gear for anything but their unique skin. Before, I would’ve made sure to transmute cultural armor with some exotics, just so I wouldn’t be a drag on my dungeon group due to inferior stats. I was going through the process to not disappoint others by coming unprepared, is what I’m saying. Now, I don’t care. I’ll take whatever drops off of mobs and just transmute greens or golds.

I never enjoyed power progression. It’s a chore in any game I play, but I’ll endure it for the reward of experiencing a rich world full of lore, and beautiful aesthetics both as part of the environment and in item rewards. Same reason I intentionally didn’t set foot in any dungeon until I was 80 and in exotics.

I won’t be taking part in the new dungeon and stay away from the area they will add, not because I’m a Spiteful Spirit (har har), but because this content will remind me how something that I achieved was taken away from me.

Give us a way to upgrade our exotics to Ascended armor (keeping their skin) and I dont think many would complain.

They might even do that, but what’s to say you won’t have to grind as long or longer to upgrade your exotics? And when the next infusion set is released and they give you a way to farm your way to upgraded t2 ascended, you’ll still have to ask yourself: “Is this the last time I have to pass the finish line?”

That’s what it comes down to. Invalidating/devaluing our achievements and the loss of trust in ANet that they would never ever do this kind of thing.

And they’re fixing the problem of Legendaries being – according to some players – too laborous and hard to get – by adding a tier of items harder to get than Exotics?
I fail to compute this reasoning.

I think their logic is that the average player spends his time always farming the tier of gear and not just puts all of his resources into getting what they really want straight away.

It’s pretty naive to think that, and I don’t believe the majority of the player base is wasting their money getting statistically inferior gear. People are dumb, but not THAT dumb.

So, once ANet will be (again) flabbergasted by how fast people are getting in Ascended armor, and they need to slow down people’s progression speed once again, what do you think will happen? Are they going to add a new tier and limit the amount of progression you can make in a certain time frame towards it by disabling rewards completely after X% progress, like a harsh version of DR for dungeon tokens or whatever you’ll be needing for your infusion slot?

That seems like the only fool proof way to regulate player progression to me, but if you can think of other mechanics to artificially delay progression speed, I’d like to hear them.

Only people that are ashamed of their gear don’t want people to inspect it. Either L2P or go back to carebear central, a.k.a. the original Guild Wars.

Exotics will probably be too easy to obtain now.

Well, even if exotics will drop like rares now do, the only way you will be able to acquire ascended gear is one of the 9 mini dungeons. That is, until they decide to make ascended gear craftable, with its own set of crafting materials et al.

Problem is, it still devalues exotics, and a lot of players only bothered to replace their rare gear with it because they knew it was the best. Had they known about new gear tiers 2 months ago, a good chunk of people would still be running around in greens and golds. And now, that Arenanet have shown that they are willing to add new tiers of gear that devalue the others, you can never be sure whether the work you put into outfitting your characters wont be devalued as well down the line. Had I even known about their willingness to add new gear tiers, I would have never started crafting. Now that I and others know, I’ll minimize my progression efforts to a bare minimum until I can be reasonably sure what the new stat ceiling is going to be and whether it will stay or not.

I do not care about the progression, I just want the max stat armor to “be done with it”. It’s not a fun journey, and I don’t feel rewarded when I put on gear with better stats. If my gear is not the best it can be, I feel like I’m not ready to actually indulge into working towards things I really want to be getting, like skins, or maybe titles.
It’s the reason I level 10 levels past my last personal story step, so I can enjoy a good chunk of it in one sitting.

So now that Ascended gear outstats exotics, what is the appeal of acquiring exotic gear(besides unique skins)? I was planning to level each armor crafting profession to max in order to get all of my toons decked out, but the introduction of ascended gear made that goal irrelevant. Why save up for Exotics if you can buy Legendary precursors? I’m sure there will be ways to craft ascended armor in the future, requiring a new tier of collectible materials only found in expansion zones. Until then, Rare gear, which drops frequently enough during normal play, will be what my new character are wearing.

It was required in GW1, only way to progress against the Mursaat was to be ascended and infused. Ascended Items will likely be pretty easy to get, and infused items will be found in any dungeon. They will come in a small variety of backpieces likely.

Oh, I hope those new monsters will have a skill that can obliterate whole groups of people without ascended armor. I loved that part in GW1, when you got hit with Spectral Agony and had about 3 seconds for someone to put PS on you. Point was, though: Infusion in GW1 was relatively easy to obtain. How much do we have to work for the GW2 version of infusion? Does the unique event line that never runs again have something to do with it? Will it reward players that have “been there” by giving them infusion rewards?
Questions above questions.

Oh, and as of right now, the best guess of how Infusion will work is to look at how it did in GW1:

My opinion: New armor skin that is already infused + new items that let you infuse any armor.

The only question now is: What does infusion do, and does it give you a flat stat upgrade that makes you more powerful outside of TLS/SotM?

The reference to “infusion” may not be a coincidence at all. Maybe just like how infusion in GW1 only affected our capacity to deal with Mursaats,

It doesn’t have to have anything to do with the Mursaat. The term infusion could’ve been just used to describe a mechanic that is similar to that of what we did with our armor sets in GW1 to fight the Mursaat.
If they add armor that is only more effective against foes of X type, but doesn’t give any kind of statistical advantage for the rest of the game, it might work. After all, the “Shards of the Mist” and “Ascended Armor” sound a lot like the dungeon’s theme will somehow be human god related.

GW2 loot system , Do you players like it ? yes/no give reasons for both

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ASB.4295

ASB.4295

I like it more than GW1s system, which was pretty much the same, except for the fact that dungeon or elite area chests had an incredibly small chance of dropping a super rare item, which was the only way to get it. The RNG of precursors in GW2 is nothing compared to the 0.001% probability of getting your desired item in GW if you want to work for it instead of just buying it from others. Plus, some skins couldn’t be fully stat modified(Canthan non elite area skins), which was a pita, because you basically had to get extremely lucky to get the item of your choice with the inherent bonuses you desired, or settle for wielding sub-optimal weapon.

So yes, the loot system is fine IMO, especially the random chest drops. The rarity in loot is still there with precursors, but unlike in GW1, you don’t have to do the same monotonous run 200 times until you may get what you want. If the only way to get, let’s say Giant Eyes is to run Arah explorable, then I wouldn’t like it.

Please reconsider the Orr snares, knockdowns and roots...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ASB.4295

ASB.4295

The question is not how unfair you find Orr mobs to be, but why you cannot manage your way through them. I’d like you know which professions you are playing that give you such a hard time circumnavigating snares. If you’re a Ranger, I might have some sympathy with you, because your pet, even if stowed away, is an additional liability when you’re trying to navigate the map. Then again, if you’re a Ranger and haven’t learned to swap your pet after you’ve run through a group that managed to hit you in order to exit combat mode by level 80, I don’t know. I hear that Necros also lack in mobility, but I can’t speak from experience. I know, though, that when I run around Cursed Shore with my friend, who plays Necro(me being Warrior or Mesmer), he has no problem following me, and that’s without me using area swiftness, just in case you’re wondering.
I’d really like to know which profession has the most problems with Risen avoidance-wise, as maining a Mesmer doesn’t give me enough of a perspective to understand all of these complaints.

Oh, and in case you didn’t already deduce this from my post, I have no problems navigating Orr. The professions I’ve gotten there have enough mobility to run around without getting slowed, pulled, or snared in 8 out of 10 encounters. Anticipating pulls or attacks with your dodge makes a hell of a lot of a difference.

So far, the Thaumanova Elemental. The boss is pretty easy, but its mechanics turns people’ stupidity against themselves. You can take him with 3 people who know what’s going on, but when you have 20 guys clumping up on the bridge because they don’t dare running in and as a result are getting annihilated by AoE, you can’t help but facepalm. That boss shamelessly exploits one of the basic human instincts to stick together and have strength in numbers, it’s beautiful. I wish other bosses would punish balling as hard as this boss. Also, the lack of tells make it even more difficult to stay alive if you don’t keep moving.

Am I the only one who wouldnt like new races?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ASB.4295

ASB.4295

The only new races I wouldn’t be a fan of are more bipedal plantigrade humanoids. That includes such popular races like Dwarfs and Undead. I’d like to see it being kept on the level of strangeness the Charr and Asura exhibit. Tengu are digitigrade birdmen, Naga/The Forgotten don’t even have legs (and one has four arms). The non-human characteristics of races like that are all interesting enough on their own to warrant creating a playable race out of them. You can give a race of goo blobs a rich and full history, culture and traditions, but that doesn’t make them appealing to a large enough audience. Human-like races that at least share some basic similarities with what we as human instinctively recognize as being familiar, like the face and the statue(with the torso being more important in this recognition process than the lower extremities), is a prerequisite for a lion share of people to even consider playing them for 100s of hours. You can pull of a completely inhuman protagonist in something like a platformer or point and click adventure, but an MMORPG? Mhh, I’m finding that unlikely.

Cost of waypoints [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ASB.4295

ASB.4295

I’m okay with the way it is now. The ends justify the means in this case. I mean, I only have to do one event(with loot selling not even that) to get the cost for a WP back. I thought I would have problems when I started playing, but now that I can judge better how much money you make in an average play session, the costs are in the Goldilocks zone. The less money in the pockets of players, the lower the inflation rate is going to be, which means if things go awry in another sector of the economy, it’s way easier to compensate for.

The main reason why people want mounts is to show off, which is something mini pets already fulfill without being so “in your face” about it like mounts are in other MMOs.

My play habits are fairly average, and I port around when I need to. I don’t grind events in Orr, I don’t run one dungeon after another(just did my first explorable yesterday), and I end up with a steady income of about 1 gold per casually played hour, despite the waypoint and TP tax.

What did make a difference in how much money I earned was the size of my bags. Up until a week ago I was running around with 8 slot bags, but I upgraded to moderate 15 slotters since then. You wouldn’t believe how much of a difference it makes having to visit the Merchant every 45-60 minutes instead of 15-20.

If they could pull off a dynamic way point cost system, that could let you travel to let’s say one of the major cities for free for a short amount of time to increase player density, I wouldn’t say no.
With Halloween they have shown that they can dynamically place zone portals in a map that leads you to other places. There could be an event chain in certain maps that let’s player unlock access to an Asuran portal that randomly leads to one of the major cities(preferably underpopulated ones). I think that playing with this might be useful in the long run without hurting the economy too much like a flat cost decrease would.

Yay for nonrepresentational testing samples.
No raids. No further gear progression. No dueling(open world kind, not an instanced seperated one). Because those things aren’t in the game I enjoy GW2 more than any other RPG or multiplayer game. Using terms like “a lot of people”, when the sample size is tiny just to make the statement sound more important than it actually is, lacks objectivity.
GW2 is designed with different kind of goals in mind, and actively discourages and/or disallows certain kind of player behaviour to shape the community and not let it devolve into what you see in other MMOs or large online communities. How do you know your sample of people wasn’t just saturated with whiners and complainers, which are by default many times as vocal about what they personally don’t like than rest?
I think this whole thread is just another excuse for people to moan about things they want to have in the game and hate about the game, regardless of what the developer actually has in mind for its future. GW2 doesn’t need to please a certain demographic that has become used to things like raiding, open world pvp or officially segregating their population by declaring RP, PvP, Raid, and what not servers.

The new FOV is fantastic. Thank you ANet!

Tried the new one, it feels pretty nauseous. Now I know how the FoV whiners(and I say that in an ironic way) have felt up until now.
