"Hosting" Events in Guild Halls?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Abe Kleine.3568

Abe Kleine.3568

It exactly means player created events. The developers make the world, the players provide the entertainment. It’s a simple concept that goes way back to the original first MUDS and MMOs to follow. They don’t do EVERYTHING for you, sometimes there’s something called RP. If you think it’s nerdy to RP, then you’re in the wrong genre.

What? You mean all were going to do it get “fake drunk” and type laugh emotes in a circle and do nothing? Sorry I’m not on a RP server, if they want us to create what we want and provide entertainment then let the Guild Owners configure and set up their own dungeons and duel arenas and portals. You said it yourself, the player provides the entertainment. So let the players do what they want

I clearly heard in the PAX South livestream that you will be able to host events in your guild halls (http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/c/5954011 time 50:20). What do you think these events could be? I don’t think he means player created events (like a costume brawl contest or a “best outfit” contest).

Surely he means something along the line of hosting grand and interesting events like maybe duels? Or perhaps small dungeons? Or perhaps private Spvp servers that can only be accessed from within the guild halls once invited to participate. Does anyone else have speculations on what he meant by “hosting” events?

Nop, WvW is more dead then ever. latest LS is just 1 hr of content and lot of dissapointment. SPvP getting worked at next month so new stuff maybe 2015.

Good news is there are more and more gem store stuff what is apsolutly useless.

Good luck at new job you have another 3 months.

Is WvW really dead now? What server are you on?

After suddenly getting a job and presumably having all my time being eaten up by said job; I haven’t touched GW2 in almost 3 months. I’m wondering if anything has really changed during that time. And by changes I mean besides Living Story, I’m talking about balance changes, maps (ones that can be revisited), items, dungeons WvW, PvP. Has ANYTHING really changed in that span of time? I’m just curious, since I used to browse these forums daily hoping for some crazy changes or new pvp games modes. But nothing ever really came of those discussions, even with a dev present.

Solution to fix the population imbalance

in WvW

Posted by: Abe Kleine.3568

Abe Kleine.3568

You guys beat me to it. After last week’s positive discussion on siege trolls I wanted to bring up the topic of population imbalance and ideas that you have on it.

There are a couple of ideas already going in this thread:

  • population caps
  • merge servers
  • Battle Groups

I’d like to join in this brainstorm with some questions on these. For merging servers, how do we determine who gets merged? Where would we merge them to? How do we maintain any sort of world pride or identity they have? How do we handle potentially merging with your mortal enemies?

For population caps, how do we deal with the longer queues on the worlds that can field enough people? If it is dynamic, would players be able to manipulate it? For example, our world is ahead so we all agree to not play WvW so the other worlds are capped down and can’t counter us.

For Battle Groups, Asglarek mentioned more details are on the way. I’d love to hear more.

I’m approaching this as a brainstorm. The topic is “Approaches to correcting overall population imbalance”. I know there is a related topic of 24 hour coverage but I’d like to keep that as a separate conversation for now.

Please keep this friendly, constructive and on topic. We had a really good discussion on the siege troll thread I’m hoping we can kick around some ideas and have another great discussion here. Feel free to add additional ideas that I didn’t list out but please make sure they are on topic.

Thanks,
John

Merge Servers, tada! no need for lower population caps or messing with anything like that. Planetside 2 has merged multiple servers and it has worked out for the better. It’s a good idea

Feedback: Prestige Classes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Abe Kleine.3568

Abe Kleine.3568

There are those who want to have new classes in GW2. But considering that we have every role filled out for light, medium and heavy armor types, I suggest that we upgrade the classes in a similar fashion as Ragnarok Online. The classes themselves do not need to be overpowered compared to the originals but they would have flashier moves, access to certain weapons that would otherwise be unavailable to them and so on. To access them, there would be quests that are class exclusive (say, speak to a Profession Trainer) and be triggered at the cost of certain skill points. The quests themselves would naturally have to be very tough to pull off to give players a sense of accomplishment to reflect their prestige class.

Assuming you guys are planning an expansion at some point, I’d suggest you look into this as a possible feature.

Hey that sounds like a great idea! ANET GIVE THIS MAN A COOKIE!

Guardians get a knew Aura (basically)

in Guardian

Abe Kleine.3568

Too early to tell. Works only with gs. Gives more retaliation source and vulnerability without traits. Could be nice offensively if the enemy smacks you fast you could stack 5-10% more dmg on them. Nothing mindblowing. Not something we desperately needed. There are better runes if u want swiftness.

This more or less.

Also should take into consideration that leaping through a light field will not longer proc altruistic healing.

That being said the new aura is pretty nice and if your using a hammer in PVE content it can be pretty much abused by allies.
Did a dungeon tonight with a thief in the party and he had the aura up 24/7.

Now if only we had a reason to want to use mace/hammer in PvP, we could give out that aura all the time.

Until they made hammer skill 1 faster I don’t think anyone is going to want to use it

Guardians get a knew Aura (basically)

in Guardian

Posted by: Abe Kleine.3568

Abe Kleine.3568

Profession Skills
General
New Aura: Light Aura
Gain 2 seconds of retaliation when struck. (Cooldown: 1 second)
Apply 8 seconds of vulnerability when struck.
Light Field:
Leaping through a light field now grants 5 seconds of light aura.

Now GS 4+3 gives us an aura instead of just retaliation

And the duration can be further increased by using the new rune set

Superior Rune of Radiance:
+25 Vitality
When you receive an aura, you gain 5 seconds of swiftness.
+50 Vitality
When you use a heal skill, you gain 4 seconds of light aura.
+100 Vitality
The duration of auras you apply are increased by 33%.

Since guardians can make the most lightfields out of any other profession in the game I’m guessing that this was targeted towards guardians over other professions. Made more obvious by the swiftness that is gained when using the rune set. What are fellow guardians thoughts on this?

This IS insulting.

Torment is a viable answer to limit mobility with a risk/reward and cleanse type counter play. I know originally people felt it was not iconic to the archtype, but just thinking mechanics.

Ive said it before, i will say it again for the 324907309790759047905743th time, Master trait in radiance, torment on crit, call it “punish the wicked” Gives us something actually condition based IN our condition line (radiant retaliation is crap) and ties into the theme nicely, helps with soft cc as it punishes movement, and opens up new types of actual condi builds instead of the only one which is actually hybrid.

I could live with that.

Kind of similar to a change I suggested a while back.
Make Radiant Retaliation base for everyone of every class. Then move shimmering Defense to the grandmaster tier & change it to the following.

Shimmering Defense : Whenever you blind or burn a target you apply X stacks of torment for Y Seconds. 5 second internal CD per target.

That ^ would mean yes you can kite but doing so will still cause you some damage.

Another simpler idea I had was to put a 3 second cripple onto sword #2 & a 4 second cripple onto greatsword #3.

+1

These are both very sound suggestions.

Now, if only we can get someone at ArenaNet to read these.

Thanks.

I don’t think anyone from Anet will read this thread if they watched the beginning video. I’d love to switch it out with a “less straightforward and crude” video, but it literally sums up my feelings on the changes 100%. Pretty sweet changes…. Best buffs of all the classes maybe. At least for Med/

Not everyone plays medi 24/7

So because the build you don’t play all the time is what got the biggest buff, these are bad changes…seems legit

I play plenty of other build, but this just didn’t feel right at all, I was waiting for some major changes that would give guardians that something that they really needed, and with a coy little smiles the man proclaims “well, thats all for guardian”

Please identify what Guardians really needed that they didn’t get … just because Anet doesn’t meet your expectations doesn’t mean they didn’t hit the mark on the patch.

From where I sit, SW’s just got interesting. Granted, I don’t think Med’s needed more love but it would be stupid to complain about being buffed don’t you think?

People have been asking for a multitude of changes, from changes to sword 1, to the much demanded changes to the useless shield, theres a long list of quality of life changes people have been asking for, but spirit weapon buffs and meditation buffs shouldn’t have been at the top of the list

Greetings and Salutations!

As the second season of the Living Story progresses, there are numerous advancements in the mechanics to celebrate, but also some troubles and tribulations. One particular burr in the sandal of the storyline shows no sign of ceasing, and thus it seems fitting to talk about a lingering problem with the narrative. The Biconics.

My thesis is simple. The story should stop treating these side characters like protagonists.

The Biconics are not bad characters. Far from it, they are fairly witty and amusing most of the time, and their interactions can be quite enjoyable. But the Living Story has decided that they are the focal point of the entire game, shackling our main characters to these five strangers and declaring them to be the protagonists of the franchise. This is flawed. It does not make sense from a narrative perspective, and it won’t do the series any favors in presenting interesting and compelling stories in the days to come.

In keeping with my oddball format, I’d like to present six reasons why the Biconics are a problem, and offer an example from the Living Story Season 1 of magnificent storytelling as a model for future tales. Rather than interject any of my own speculation or fanfiction into the mixture, I’d like you to solely consider the characters from the game itself who could be at the forefront of the narrative between these two posts.

Ready? Here we go!

As a response to the topic/opening post-ish:

So…why is it only their banter and not any from Braham/Rox/Taimi? They talk too. Maybe not quite as much, but they still do. The only time it got slightly annoying was the secret room part, with all of Taimi’s screeching, and one of Rox’s lines. “No one’s ever going to be able to decipher these chicken scratches!”

I actually enjoy a lot of the other characters, but I have mixed feelings on Taimi.

Edit: The reason I have mixed feelings on Taimi is probably that I am concerned for her in the living story as she is getting way to into Scarlet

it just breaks the tension of the game, we are hunting down a deadly murderer and these two are just going on about how much they love each other. Anet sure know how to turn two potentially interesting characters into two obnoxious characters.

Except what you are saying simply isn’t true.

If you look at the dialogue from Cornered, the story instance where we are chasing the murderer you will see not a single piece of their dialogue is directed towards each other. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cornered#Dialogues

And from the other story instances we are looking at one brief conversation in Fallen Hopes which amounts to Marjory saying “I’m okay now so no need to worry about me” and a couple of lines of dialogue in the first instance where Kasmeer is being overly protective and offering to take Marjory’s watch. The word Love isn’t mentioned once that I can recall.

This is why a lot of people criticizing the Marjory/Kasmeer relationship are called homophobic because they rely on blatant misrepresentations of the storyline to prove their points, which is usually the tactics of those with ulterior motives.

Kasmeer “Listen. I’m sorry about how I’ve been acting. I just can’t stand the thought of you getting hurt again. That scared the fluff out of me.”
Marjory “I know, honey. I’ve felt the same way about you. But you convinced me that you can handle yourself. Now, let me convince you.”

Its that kind of stuff I find nauseating. I thinking, omg lets just keep going shall we, you can both apologize about each others mood swings later.

3) New PvP Content:

So basically after reading all the posts the general consensus is people hate the Marjory and kasmeer couple because you believe they are pushing a homosexual agenda.

Now let’s take the gay element out of this, what is Marjory was a man. Do you think people would complain on the forums about this couple?

I think not.

I think people do not like Marjory and Kasmeer simply because they are lesbians; I do not see ArenaNet pushing out a homosexual agenda.

They seem fairly normal to me, so why is everyone so upset about them?

I think your getting your personal agenda and what is actually the issue here mixed up. You see when you are in the middle of a story and are trying to find out what has caused all this terrible death and destruction and multiple stabbings. The LAST thing you want to hear is 2 NPC’s saying “Love, I was SO WORRIED” or “If anything had happened (fake dramatic pause) I-I don’t know what I would have done GASP” also they were talking in the past-tense so neither of them are in any danger ATM

We don’t give a kitten about their genders, their goo goo ga ga lovey dovey is screwing with the story and giving us a bad taste in our mouths. It is out of place in the context of the story as it is unfolding. If it was between a man and women I’d STILL be yelling at my screen “NO ONE CARES, SHUT UP! THIS IS SO OUT OF PLACE”

Keep your love OFF that battlefield, there are times to care for one another and there are times to kitten and start fighting.

For you, the game should be about the PC at the expense of the open world content and ambience. For me, and for Guild Wars 2, it’s about the world as a whole since it’s a cooperative, shared environment. Neither approach is wrong, but we decided to put more of our resources into bringing the world to life. I don’t regret that at all.

Abe Kleine.3568

So far, I really like the next season of Living Story. Except for one really blatant and grating detail.

Once again, it’s about these obvious GMPCs that are single-handedly hogging the spotlight from who is supposed to be important here (you).

That dialogue scene before the Festival? Where they congratulated these people I don’t care about at all for the death of Scarlet, but failed to mention the PC at all? I was hoping that’d be the end of the special snowflakes.

But here we are once again with The Superfriends while the player gets to be the goofy side characters following the real superheroes.

It’d be alright to have your GMPCs if the PCs got just as much spotlight as they did, but we don’t. We’re referred to in these off-hand ways. Last I checked we’re supposed to be the Commander of a worldwide alliance that killed an Elder Dragon. Not the GMPC’s “friend”.

As a side note, your two female characters Marjory and Kasmeer are becoming extremely grating. I absolutely do not like having to stand there for unskippable dialogue and wait for these awful pet names and painfully forced gushing to end. It’s completely incongruous to what is going on around you. In case you guys forgot, a whole lot of people died a horrible death and there’s looters all over this mass grave.

It’s getting real tiring watching the dungeon master wax on about his NPCs while we all wait for our turn to speak, you know what I’m saying? Whatever happened to those great one-on-ones from the Personal Story?

Whatever happened to us mattering at all?

Logged in real quick to also agree

Listening to those 2 love-birds go on and on about how SAD they would be if one of them got hurt was so embarrassing to listen to, not to mention irritating. And it honestly doesn’t help when one of that characters sounds like they are trying to seduce EVERYONE around them 24/7.

And again with us being side characters, I totally agree, everyone else sounds much more important than you. So far, we, as the leader have killed 2 insane sylvari and we get no real recognition. They should have changed certain dialogue queues when you walk up to certain NPC’s making you sounds more important.

The Warrior Meta Paradox

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Abe Kleine.3568

Abe Kleine.3568

I have never played a warrior myself, but I have plenty of experience fighting them in WvW roaming, zerging and sPvP setting. And I must say that I am quite confused by that profession. The reason is, that I can pin point for all other classes/builds weaknesses or better: trade offs, that I can exploit. That is the way I went since the start of GW2, experimenting with builds and finding exploits on the weaknesses of other professions.

Now I can think of trade offs for all professions and their most common builds I fight all day (not necessarily complete or including all builds, just what I see the most):

Guardian

  • heavy armor and high melee single target and AoE DPS, good crowd control, good condition removal
  • low HP, low/no long range DPS, low mobility and less frequent stun breakers, relies on boons, which could be corrupted, ripped or stolen

Engineer

  • medium armor, medium HP, good single target and AoE DPS, good crowd control, high mobility and several block skills
  • less frequent condition removal and stun breakers

Ranger

  • medium armor, medium HP, high long range single target DPS, high mobility and evasion
  • (relies on flawed pet AI) has less frequent condition removal and stun breakers, few AoE Damage options

Thief

  • high single target DPS, decent crowd control, high mobility, stealth/high evasion and boon steal
  • light armor, low HP pool and less frequent stun breakers, few AoE damage options

Elementalist

  • high single target and AoE DPS, good crowd control, high mobility and good condition removal
  • light armor, low HP pool and relies on boons, which could be corrupted, ripped or stolen

Mesmer

  • medium HP pool, high long ranged single target DPS, good short range burst, good crowd control, high in combat mobility, frequent stun breakers, stealth and boon rips
  • light armor, low out of combat mobility, less frequent condition removal and few AoE damage options

Necromancer

  • high HP pool, additional Death Shroud HP pool, high AoE and single target Damage, good crowd control, boon rips and boon corrupts and good condition removal/transfers
  • light armor, few stun breakers, low mobility

Warrior

  • high HP pool, high armor, high single target and AoE DPS, good crowd control, high mobility, frequent condition removal, frequent stun breakers, high evasion
  • no disadvantages I can think of…

One might disagree on some of those, but that is not the point. The point is that there are weaknesses for every profession except the warrior. I do not want the damage or HP pool or healing of the warrior or such nerfed. What I would like to see is the warrior having some disadvantages. So either I did not think hard enough and you guys can correct me or something should be done, to bring the warrior in line with other professions in terms of trade off.

The only negative for the warrior I can see is that most of their healing skills are terrible (except healing signet), but after they introduced the new healing skill that heals you for how much damage you absorb (which should have gone to the guardian) I can’t really think of any negatives.

OH! Maybe the negative for warriors is that they HAVE no negatives! That honestly sounds like something the balance-team would say XD

[Poll] New classes

What classes would you like them to be implemented in the future between the following ?

1
Tamer : light armor , takes advantage of the beasts that fight in his place, he mostly defensive spells to cure his beasts .

2
Bard: light armor , playing musical instruments to give boons and conditions

3
Blood Mage : light armor : Inflicts damage to itself to its enemies to inflict more

4
Summoner : light armor , can summon more creatures to fight for him ( there is already the necromancer but the summoner would be targeted more on creatures )

5
Doppelganger : medium armor , similar to the ranger but instead of domesticating animals it takes the form

6
Duelist : medium armor , his style is made of parades and countermoves

7
Warlock : medium armor , a cross between a magician and a warrior

8
Berserker : heavy armor , he fights with fury and therefore relies entirely on the attack and it is unstoppable , use only 2 weapons in the hands and has a poor defense

9
Magician combat : heavy armor , like the Elementalist but sacrifices his attack power for defense

Logged in real quick to tell you that IN MY OPINION…. I hate every single one of these “PROFESSION” suggestions.

Oh my lord people PLEASE stop coming up with ideas for traps that are literally the easiest thing in the entire world to exploit in practice, these ideas are getting worse and worse. It’s as bad as the TF2 community when it comes to making up weapon stats, they’re so OP and broken you just want to smack them across the face and knock some sense into them. Please think logically and remember that ANY GROUP could put multiple of these traps down.

Quick Sand Trap would awesome!

put it right next to supply camps and have players get immobilized in position for 30s. Its like catching an enemy with his hands in the candy jar =D

Would also go great with the addition of all new desert areas from Magumma Jungle!

Nope

I think we all know Anet has been working on something like this for some time (They have already confirmed that they have been working on guild halls, but don’t want to half-kitten it) if anything I’d REALLY hope they do something like runescape did back when it was in it’s prime in regards to houses, I know it’s a silly thing to reference, but they did housing in an amazing way, by giving out a password or code you could invite people into your housing instance for drinking competitions, 1 on 1 fights, and a lot of other things. You could add on additional things to your house by purchasing them with gold and materials. If Anet does what I hope they will be doing, housing with be incredibly in depth with plenty of things to get and HOPEFULLY we can have more than like 5 freakin people in an instance at once

Yeah that would be pretty sweet! Having events in a players house that players can activate and play with friends would be quite neat.

Whatever they do I think it’s got to have a lot of customization and offer a lot in the way of expression to the player.

Since posting this I have been thinking about the Asura gate idea. Having an Asura gate the leads to your personal home in the game and getting to choose the setting from locations in the game would be really awesome. Of course it likely wouldn’t be an actual place in the game but more like an area made to look like it’s in the Shiverpeaks or what-have-you.

another idea would be to be able to purchase a crafting station to put in your house. Perhaps this is going too far with the idea but what about a personal bank teller or trading post NPC? Yeah.. perhaps too far. But it’s fun to think about.

No those are fantastic ideas, although you’d have to purchase or upgrade your house to have a personal banker or trading post. Also if I remember correctly in runescape you could make underground dungeons for people to fight mobs in, they were usually extremely hard and sometimes they dropped good loot. Now those are some old memories… I wonder what they’ve done to housing since then? Ah well, Im too busy with GW2 to check it out XD anyways keep ideas coming

The Dolyak trap: Triggered by a pre-determined number of players. Turned them into a bunch of dolyaks in 10s.

That could cause massive lag issues, and would be extremely unfair and spammable :/

A friendly Discussion about Player Housing.

I’ve never been too interested in this idea when playing other games, but in GW2 I am. The reason for this I believe is because it would add another form of content into the game and another outlet for players to express themselves, show off their achievements in a fun way and give the Home Instance a better sense of purpose. I also see it as giving players more to do, to work toward and collect for. It ALSO gives ANet a huge opportunity to make more profits from the game.

ANet could sell things like, armor dummies to display armor on, weapon racks for the same purpose, furniture, home upgrades such as increasing the size or adding a garden. If it was implemented as an Asura gate to the location of your home (maybe this would be an upgrade) then they could also sell relocation licenses that would allow you to change the location of your personal home from say the Shiverpeaks to Maguuma jungle.

Exiting Game to Prevent Stomp

Had it happen last night. I thought the guy had stealthed somehow (it was a Warrior, so, uh, weird) but I had him downed at range, went in for the stomp, and then he just disappeared and stayed that way. Anyone know how long the toon stays around after they quit the game? It was about 10 seconds before the guy disappeared.

If they logged out I think you MIGHT get the point, but if they ALT+F4 they completely shut down the application meaning they aren’t playing the game at all, its like a hard reset. It’s only happened to me like ONCE and I’ve only done it once or twice when a troll thief had been targeting my all day and finally got me down :P

Tropical Bird vs Spirit Weapons

I believe tropical bird summon from rune of privateer has more health than spirit weapons. How messed up is that? lol

ROFL your kidding right?….. What about with the extra health trait?

What extra health trait?

Oh wait, it doesn’t have one since it’s not a pet XD nevermind it only has a trait that increases duration, completely uses also
