Chances are we’ll see the balance patch sooner than later; recalling the HoT balance patch came out a few months before HoT launched.

Isn’t there supposed to be a huge update like on the 8th or something?

5 MONTHS ago?! Geez I hope this update is huge. I’ve been holding off on playing GW2 much due to Guardians having an entire utility set be useless and it’s the only class I liked. Just rubbed me the wrong way and I stopped playing since I would keep getting upset with it

Quitting because of spirit weapons? Even I find this shallow and tomes and SW was the only reason I made and mained a guardian (and still do).

Anyway, during the last pvp Dev AMA, they said SW are one of the 4-5 skill types they want to improve, along with mantras, and a couple more I can’t remember.

That is astounding, and it only took them what, 3-4 years to figure it out after people had been telling them for years that those utilities were utterly worthless and that we needed something else.

It was mathematically proven that SW were bad, and they just… Said nothing.. For years.. Why would I want to continue playing when I know that it will take them forever to fix these commonly talked about issues?

Yea even this information won’t make me go back to the game. I’d guess that it will probably take another.. 6 months for any progress to be made what they said about SW

I suppose I’m shallow for thinking that when a gaming companies fans let them know that something doesn’t work, or is actually statistically bad for 4 years and they do nothing that I’m supposed to just go along with that

They are still in game and haven’t been changed since 2015.

thanks for the info, such a kitten shame really. Hearing things like this makes me remember why I stopped playing in the 1st place. A complete lack of communication in regards to balance updates and such.

Always thought spirit weapons were the most interesting concept for the guardian, it’s too bad that Anet refused to listen to the general consensus that SW are bad and need to be removed or changed drastically for over 2+ years

Just wondering, it’s been what feels like half a year of not playing GW2 and just checking up on the subreddit and forums to see whats up but I’m always still out of the loop. Have spirit weapons been changed (majorly) or completely removed from the game and replaced yet?

If not then that would be a shame and I will most likely not be returning to the game if that is so.

This guy seems to have a handle on some of the laughably poorly thought out Guardian traits. His wep one was hilariously on point too, but was a bit ranty.

Pretty much agree with everything he says. If I could buy him a beer I would.

Shame he cant post here as Anet has apparently banned him – not that it would change anything as this balance team has a terrible track record with regards to open dialogue discussions on profession design. Invisible for 99% of the year, only appearing briefly before expansions, then swiftly vanishing again. Meh.

Oh it’s Arken, he’s a good guy. He’s just really passionate about the guardian. Yea I’ve been playing guardian for a long time and it’s always felt like we usually got the bottom of the barrel when it comes to certain skills. Like our signet that allows us to rez ONE person, meanwhile necro has one that will rez THREE people…. wtf… why?

I haven’t seen somebody use spirit weapons in a LONG time. The most I’ve seen of them is when a new player puts them on thinking that it’ll be cool or something. Or some random player screwing around with nonsense builds trying to be funny (I did that as well, all spirit weapons build come at me bro rofl)

Can you guys just please remove them already? Every time I mouse over them I get sad thinking of all the potential they could have had if they were given a proper retouch. If you aren’t going to acknowledge them, or even respond to previous posts about spirit weapons assuring us that either you are, or are not working on them. Then just remove them, tidy up a bit, do something ANYTHING!

our server was fine we have people
what anet need to do is link the server without People

I’ve been in hour an a half long queue’s, after a while I’ve learned that it’s just a part of how things work, and that Anet eventually want to do something to alleviate that (other than Eotm)

The best thing you can do is just to deal with it and let Anet do their job, they can see the queue times, you don’t have to tell them how long your queue was, they have programs in place that monitor basically everything, even when they are away.

Half the time people come on these forums and scream and complain about something that Anet already knew was going on and is working to fixing OR something that Anet knows is going on but can’t fix, because they are busy fixing the other things that everyone is screaming about which they already knew was an issue….

Of course there are going to be huge queue times they just linked 2 servers WvW populations, it’s a weekend and it’s reset night. Our server had a 60+ queue even before the link.

Don’t you think that Anet knows this? And to remedy this don’t you think that they MIGHT increase the amount of people that can be on a BL? I haven’t had a single issue with skill lag in these giant 3 faction fights tonight, the only issues I’ve been having is with my ISP and that’s just in my area atm.

They’re not just gonna go “Ok hur dur we linked servers together lets ignore WvW now”

they said that they would be focusing more on WvW and in later iterations they will most likely be remedying the issue that so many are currently whining about at the top of their bloody lungs

When are you guys gonna start up another WvW tournament? Because it’s been over a year since our last one and the battle historian has been just standing there.. Doing nothing… For over 365+ days

I realize that the last WvW Tourney made quite a few people upset based on how it was handled and how matches were decided. But it would be REALLY nice if you revisited/revamped the Tourney system and put another one up.

I’m not saying drop everything and make a new Tourney ASAP. Everyone is busy with the expansion, leveling up mastery’s, exploring etc. And that will keep players busy for a good chunk of time.

But there is currently no real gain from winning these WvW matches besides minor passive buffs to various PvE content. Our server has won the last like, 5-6 matches in a row prior to HoT and has continued to win matches after HoT because there’s no incentive for servers to fight at the moment(plus everyone is doing the expansion)

At this point the poor sylvari historian is just gathering dust waiting for someone to take pity on him and ask him if they can see the tourney weapon rewards. Even though they have already spent their tickets months ago..

Upcoming Global Change to Player Minions

Hey all,

As some of you may have seen in raids during the last BWE, we were trying out something new with player minions. Basically, in that final BWE, player minions did not take damage from boss attacks. We thought that made minion-based professions feel so much better in combat, but that change did expose some problems such as minions being able to withstand a damaging attack indefinitely.

We wanted minions to not die left and right, but we did want them to have some attrition instead of being completely immune to attacks. This problem is mainly prevalent in PvE as we have huge attacks all over the place that are meant to be dodged by players but unfortunately for minions, they can’t dodge.

After reviewing BWE results, we wanted to create a better system to accomplish this as a global change for minions. To do that, we made it so that unless a minion is specifically targeted by a creature, they will be dealt drastically reduced damage and condition duration from attacks. Currently, this is set to 95% reduction as we feel like it’s a good starting place, but we’ll continue to monitor and adjust it. This means if your minion gains agro from a creature it will still take full damage, but if there is area effect damage hitting your minion, instead of usually killing it instantly, it will slowly attrition it down.

We felt like minions were in a good place for PvP so we didn’t want to change them there for now. Thus, the interaction between players and minions in PvP combat will remain the same.

The change is for all player minions, this includes things like engineer turrets and ranger spirits as well. This will be in for HoT Launch in a few days.

Wha-What about Guardian Spirit weapons?…… Roy can you please ask Karl to do something about them

I’d have to agree completely on a lot of these points. Not to mention that currently spirit weapons are basically taking up utility slots. They are unused, completely forgotten to most if not ALL guardians. Most players are almost blind to the fact that they exist.

We’re so used to spirit weapons being so bad and unusable that we’ve basically tricked ourselves into thinking they don’t exist. When the fact of the matter is that they do, and they are a part of the “core” utilities of the guardian.

Something needs to be done to drastically change how spirit weapons work in GW2. Or else they will continue to take up utility slots that could have been used for something more practicall

You’ve basically forced people to do the most optimal amount of damage in the smallest amount of time by adding timers…. Which means going full zerker which unfortunately is the current meta, which you have said time and time again wouldn’t work in these raids…. But as matt has explained, they basically needed zerkers or they would fail the encounters…

I don’t really like hopping onto forums and raging about various buffs, nerfs, or changes. But I can’t help but feel like with Dragon Hunter we’re getting the short end of the stick and that makes me sad

I’m not even annoyed or angry. I’m just really sad about it all. I’m like the kid who saw little Johnny get an oreo cookie ice cream cone and I’m like “W-wait, why can’t I have one too?”

And then Dad looks down to me and says “You’re fine with what you have son” and I’m holding a poop flavored ice cream cone

Sick of getting shunned in WvW

It is all GWEN in T1/T2. As an engi you can’t get groups or get assigned to stomp duty with the rest of the leather armors. Staff ele and necro wells are just that much better than any thing engies can offer.

It is getting so bad on my server that the comanders will stop the pin and demand/wait for you to login front line or Ele / Necro. Rangers have it just as bad as us.

Mortar is ok but it is clearly not enough to make a dent in the meta.

All I do is WvW I don’t care about anything else. If you are having a different experience you probably aren’t playing top end where efficiency matters. I don’t wanna hear about your scrub experince in t8 where that one time you killed a ranger

I am not sure why anet has designed a game with the worse class shunning even if there is no healers tanks or cc primaries. All they have to do is balance direct damage and they are doing a bad job of it

Lol they will legit stop their zerg for a few people not having the right profession in WvW? you know what you do at that point? Sit there with them, go afk and do something else while coming back to do a few skills/move a bit every so often. Trust me, they will give up eventually.

At some point your server will start losing objectives and they will have no one to blame but themselves. If you really wanted to kitten them off and teach them a lesson, give their positions away to enemy servers while they are sitting there waiting for people to switch professions.

Nobody in an MMORPG, especially GW2 has the authority to tell others what to do, just because they own a commander tag doesn’t mean what they say holds any more weight than someone that didn’t spend 100g on a tag.

Perma-Death Guardian

So yeah, started a perma-death guardian using woodenpotatoes’s hardcore rules, at level 9 right now, planning on running mace/focus for defensive needs and sword/torch for offense. Considering replacing focus w/ shield but that seems unlikely.

Anybody else tried this? If so what was your experience like?

Why would you want to artificially make the game harder for you when you’re already playing a profession with the lowest heavy armor health pool?

That would be like if a paraplegic went out and broke one of their arms on purpose… There’s no reason to do it.

Just chose a non-meta build and you’ll be increasing the difficulty ten-fold

This is a smart move by Anet, regardless of what they have promised in the past. And regardless of what you guys think. The account restrictions seem very well thought out to curb gold sellers and potential trolls. This new model is no different than Team Fortress 2’s pay model (it’s F2P but there are account wide restrictions) but for small price you can unlock everything a full $60 player would have access too.

But in this case the amount to get everything is the cost of the expansion, which makes sense given the scale and sheer amount of gameplay hours. TF2 is a small class based shooter and the community is basically creating all the new content for the game itself so monetization isn’t an issue.

However GW2 is on a much larger scale and people in a company are still actively working on it and people still need to get paid. Regardless of how upset you are about this change, this is a good move. And at least isn’t not as bad as that OTHER NCsoft game that was forced to go F2P rofl

medi guard: nerfed kitten last patch (less boon duration / less toughness / more dps everywehre which makes its survivability so low)
burn guard: cheesy squishy…not that great all in all
support guard: already too slow to avoid being out rotated. Now with revenant coming … we can safely say that guardian is in a pretty good spot ;-)

Wtf is up with this? Longer boon duration for teammates etc, all these interesting mechanics. And we get kitten projectile shield (that doesn’t work as intended half the time) and a terrible 4 ability that does awful damage and isn’t nearly as useful as Anet thinks.

Everyone has been screaming at the top of their lungs for less outfits and more armor pieces. The reasoning for more outfits than pieces was clipping issues, which is false. Because some things inherently clip through armor, like ears, tails, and some armors in the base game.

I had an idea with the new wedding attire. Actual Weddings. Like in most games you can have the “other” and in some cases children. I Think anet could introduce something like this. But make it more a reason to “get married”.
I was thinking a new Buff calledLovers Bond and when the two who are bound in game are in the same party, could get like a 15% buff to everything. Something along those lines. They could introduce new items, like cakes, or new flowers, or a set of wedding bands to chose from. Do you folks think it could work?

Things that ANet could comment:
-Exploits on Golem and in general (is it bannable offence, are you going to fix golem related exploits or address continuing exploits )
-Feedback on Golem Rush event (19 pages of feedback, is anyone even going to read this or is giving feedback just waste of time?)
-State and future of WvW ( For example multiple topics focusing on low population servers , future of servers )
-Lack of communication (Like this topic and no comments about feedback, but also topics like cry for help )
-Why developers opinions differ so much with players ( Most famous incident of them all , no one plays WvW only (not that all players always agree with eachother) )

Without input from developers we are left here to bicker with each other .

Oh boy I remember the dev interrupting the GvG, I was there when that happened. The TS was dumbfounded that a dev was saying stuff like that and he was reported multiple times by both sides.

The entire WvW forums EXPLODED for about an entire week demanding that the person be fired. Not to mention it re-openned the GvG can wide open. In the end I think he was actually let go.

Signet of Courage Thoughts

On my guardian, at 80 (standing in LA), no healing power or food, and only a 7% buff from WvW bonuses, my passive is 962. I’m not sure what I’m missing, but that seems pretty strong to me, at least from a party stand-point. The cast time is stupidly long, but for a full-party heal I won’t complain too much.

Disclaimer- PvE guardian.

The problem is the 10 second internal cooldown that is ruining the skill. A lot of signets have interesting and useful passive abilities that are just as useful as the active ability. With this signet, both the passive and the active are lack-luster and leave much to be desired. In WvW, PvP and even dungeons in PvE you lose health at an alarming rate… And having a passive 1k heal on a 10 seconds cooldown? Your dead before you get the heal. OR you delay your inevitable death by having 1k health left before you drop. I’ve been trying to run a heal guardian with this skill for days… It’s freakin awful

Make the passive proc every 3 seconds and 1/2 the heal amount (which overall is a buff). Also, reduce the active cast time to 3 seconds.

Make these 2 changes, and you might see it get used, maybe…

Maybe even set it to like 5-6 seconds instead or SOMETHING! But people are losing health way to fast in this game for any passive heal to have a 10 seconds internal cooldown

Well this stinks, I quickly looked at the new guardian signet and didn’t even realize that it’s passive heal is on a 10 SECOND internal cooldown. The tome could heal 3-4x as much in half the time. I like to run heal-guardian sometimes but waiting 10 whole seconds to get a 1.4k heal is ridiculous when I could get that from using my maces symbol of faith once. I might as well run Renewed Focus and be selfish about it… Though Id rather not to be honest

I have no words to describe how bad this new borderland in my opinion is..
First of all It’ s too big : Immagine a low populated server trying to keep their things, immagine Vabbi in it..nonsense.
Second : Replacing the old alpine borderlands will make me and many friends of mine quit : Reason?^ I don’ t want to spend 30 min walking to find an enemy Group.
Third : Bye dears XD

The map will be in a “rotation” meaning we won’t be forced to play it every single week, it will be semi-random.

Not sure where you got this, by all accounts that I’ve heard, it appears the Alpine BL will be retired for an undetermined period of time (which in Anet speak means it’ll never return).

They had originally stated they were “adding it to a rotation” for the first several weeks. It wasn’t until recently that they decided to retire the alpine map. To suggest by “all accounts” is inaccurate, but perhaps by the “most recent accounts”

Wait your kidding? I don’t remember them saying that?! I seriously liked the old map, there is no way the would retire something like that indefinitely! All the hard work someone actually went through to make the BL maps is just going to be thrown in the trash?

Did they not say in the preview that the orbs needed to charge the new super weapon where handed in to NPC’s in several locations to stop 1 big zerg from dominating, also if 1 big zerg is in the middle of the map trying to cap this and become successful, smaller havoc groups who are nearer to towers etc, can run in and cap them before said zerg gets close to them, meaning it was all in vain…

In order to charge the weapon, you need to kill dinosaurs that have them in there stomachs, lets assume that they will just instantly respawn upon death. They also said that you can return the crystals to ANY NPC in the area, you aren’t forced to move from NPC to NPC. So zergs will camp the mobs, and the NPC’s making sure that no one can collect besides them.

And to counter your 2nd argument, a server only needs to fill a bar up from collecting crystals. If its an entire zerg doing this then it will take at max, maybe 2 minutes. If it’s going to be a standard “collect and give me things” event then it will end just as quickly as it started. Those havok groups will have to turn around and start repairing gates, or face an onslaught of supply heavy zergs that had to do nothing for those broken/damaged doors

Wha… How?…. WHY?!
The devs think that small groups of people will be fighting over this in the middle (they said so in the stream), but holy kitten is this thing going to be absolute chaos. Entire zergs of 40+ on each side will be fighting for this thing. And if one server doesn’t send a whole zerg into the middle, they will automatically lose, I can already tell.

Servers without heavy WvW presence will be COMPLETELY demolished by self-destroying gates. Enemy servers will have to use even LESS supply in order to take keeps/towers, making servers that have zero supply due to wasting it all on attempted repairs to have no supply for attempting to take towers and keeps.

A concept like this super-weapons favors the strong over the weak, or even the cunning. You can’t “ninja” this under the nose of heavy WvW servers, because they will have entire groups dedicated to this during server down times.

Anet said that they wanted WvW to feel like you are participating in an RTS, but there is no mechanic an any RTS in existence that allows the automatic destruction of buildings over periods of time.

I’m not letting this post die, I run a condi-guardian all the time in WvW in my attempt to make it work and if the ENTIRE premise of my build is going to be completely nullified because some kitten berserker groups come in and cap a few points and literally DESTROY my one condition. Then I won’t be playing on these BL’s very often

Sure, timegating is annoying, but it is what it is; take it as an attempt to simulate the difficulty of making very complex components, move on, and get on with the job.

how about that is literally the worst excuse I’ve ever heard for a system like this. You DO realize that he’s leveled the crafting to max right? HES NOW A MASTER OF THE CRAFT, and he shouldn’t need to have a timegate for something like this. Warframe, another game with significant timegates, has ones that last up too 3 days. but you can skip it “for a little cash” theres no reasoning behind it. They just want more money out of you, now Anet? They don’t have a system where you can spend cash to speed up crafting, so any excuse for a timegate is unreasonable and pathetic.

I didn’t even know that there was a timegate, I never bothered crafting much, I just like the combat system and the world. But after learning this? theres no way I’m going to be making a ascended gear any time soon. What a waste of time
