MoC is useful if you are using concentrations, but why the hell would you be using concentrations in a meditation dps build?

I take UC because all the other traits in the slot are worthless for me, go figure.

CoP: Gives you various boons, removes all conditions, gives fury for 4 seconds and heals for ~2k, stunbreaker

PF: Cleanses 3 conditions on all nearby allies, burns enemies, reduced condi duration by 35% while on the point. Leap for fire shield for fast might stacking and even more burning, blast with focus5 for AoE might. Burning Bolts for even more burning.

CoP is personal and very good for yourself, PF allows you to not only assist allies in a condi heavy fight but also allows you to burn enemies for Flame Legion runes and Fiery Wrath synergy but also stack might on both yourself AND your team, it’s also on a much lower cooldown.

Both have their uses, it just depends on how focussed on team support you want to be.

The only build I found guilty of this was a horrible, horrible cheese ranger build with Axe/torch and Sword/dagger. I think.

This guy spammed evades and condi’s with using survial to get condi clears and healing… it was terrible, he re-applies condi’s so fast by just spamming it that I was legit perma poisoned on a medi guard. This was in arranged duels in a guild arena so I saw how he played and all it was, was mashing buttons.

My opinion, poison should be on a longer cooldown so that you can apply it for a long duration but if cleansed you can’t just trollface and intantly re-apply it.

I’d have made it much fairer and inserted objectives much more useful like

- Kill 500 scrit
- Kill 1000 bears
- Kill 10.000 centaurs
-Defeat 10.000 enemies in WvW
- Achieve rank 35 in PvP
- Be in a guild with over 300 members
- Have all professions at level 80
- World completion
- Aquire a legendary weapon
- Buy sunglass on the tradepost
- Drink 500 beverages.
- Complete all daily achievements in 10 consecutive days
- Jump 1000 times in a row
- Solo all paths in Arah
- Capture Stonemist alone
- Go 1v5 in Team arena and win with 500-0
- Jump off Stonemist upper level and don’t die
- Dodge roll 4 times in a row when out of combat.

Much more achievable and meaningful, wouldn’t you say?

Is unscathed contender worth it? yes or no.

No, it is not.

UC is a trait that makes you drool at the thought of increasing your whole burst by 20%. In reality, this will not happen nearly enough to justify taking it. Since Aegis is popped even by the weakest and fastest of attacks and makes this trait is very unreliable.

I concur with you, but it started a debate apparently and then mild personal attacks heh.

Like I said before, you don’t spec for it, you just pick it up because this traitslot doesn’t offer better things and I already explained twice why it’s not worthless and also why you would go in that traitline.

Scrolling up and reading doesn’t seem to be smth that people on the forums do.

I have read you opinion, I disagree with your opinion. I do well for myself as dps guard, so do you. I see no problem here. :p

I have experience as a dps guardian by the way. Leaderboard is lolz but from what I read you know what you’re talking about. You argue good points, but if one can make Purging Flames work – and one can, it has many many uses – then MoC is better than UC.

I don’t really have outrageous stories but I did fight a match in Kyhlo once where I used Judge’s Intervention and Sword skill 2 on my guardian for mobility. The other team’s thief was raging that I was using shadowstep and teleporting. When used right JI can teleport you through walls, inside buildings and even up on ledges where normally only eles, mesmers and thieves can get. Even after I linked both skills in map chat he continued raging “Hackerrr!! Reported for hack!”

Best moment was when I was beating a mesmer on the graveyard mid point in Foefire and he fled up on the large ledge above to range me. Normally, you can only get there by going a loooong way around but I just happened to use JI at the same time as his blink, making me teleport right on top of him and killing him.
My team on TS wouldn’t stop saying how amazing it looked but in map chat, he was raging at how OP JI is.

Aedrion.6483

PvE is that way because killing stuff fast is the best way, there have been tons of treads about making mobs hit harder to encourage having a bunker, or having more AoE be done, to encourage having a support. Sadly, that means most classes that cannot nuke fall by the wayside.

However! A power necro is VERY strong and can hit for insane damage, while having high HP so I don’t exactly see what the problem is here.

As for guardians, they’re fine in PvE, they have good damage but the supporty nature of the class helps other classes perform even better.

Why is necro so broken (PvP)?

Terror necros can be a tough fight for any condi build but engies especially because we have limited CC and condi cleanse.

Necros don’t have the most mobility or defense against CC. As en engi you have tons of mobility and CC.

Did you just make a 180 in a single comment?

On topic, there are no real counters to Lich Form 7K crits, you can hide or nuke them and hope they die first, that’s it. The condi spammers with MM are just very hard to beat because hitpoints are so wonderfully balanced.

CC is your best weapon, since they don’t have vigoror stability.

Play to win, don’t be a Scrub

That is one of the most disgusting reads I’ve ever seen. He implies that you must win to win, and that that is fun. To the point where using exploits to win is a good tactic.

I love PvP, I win some, lose some but I play not only to win, but also to feel good about it. To know that I beat them, whatever they tried because I was faster, knew more counters, played creatively and countered him better. If I’d use bugs or exploits, where’s the merit of winning? Yay, I won because I used a bug, no sense of gratification in that. Nor in using one move over and over because there is no counterplay.

If according to this dude, that makes me a scrub then I’d rather be a filthy casual scrub than ‘an expert’. I play to win and feel good about it, not win because it’s the only goal that matter to the game.

On topic, Balance is not subjective. saying: I can’t beat X while playing Y so X is OP, THAT is subjective.

Hambow is powerful but not overpowered, it’s just got a lot of dmg with zero effort and is horrible due to hammer having 3 stuns and 1 CC, which is just lol! HS still not balanced. Until warriors in PVP actively choose to pick something else, it’s BiS in all builds. Bad design.

Spirit ranger is faceroll cheese, can be countered and beaten with the right build but it’s so easy to play that it’s insulting when you lose coz one dude just spammed 1

Decap is what I voted is OP, engineers have to skill ceiling because kits have no cooldown. they have 24 skills in a rotation without any form of restriction. You cannot 1v1 a decap.

Guardian OP? Bunkers can be very powerful but as a class, guardians are most certainly not OP

PU mesmer is annoying, very very annoying… but I wouldn’t call it OP per se. Hiding in stealth does make me want to eat my keyboard.

MM Necro, faceroll and insulting, the build does 80% of the work with no skill involved. Summon minions, use their abilities, har har har, win.

P/D Condi thieves, unless you have no way to clear bleeds, this build does nothing.

A few suggestions for the Guardian

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Aedrion.6483

Aedrion.6483

I don’t think we need more CC spam. If you’re struggling with the guardian it is sadly an l2p issue.

How contructive.

I play guardian at higher level tPvP often fighting teams that are top 10-30 in the leaderboards for some mysterious reason and I find that while knowing the class and timing your skills can compensate for mobility or inability to snare reliably to some extent, the actual complete lack of soft CC – cripple, chill – for a 90% pure melee class is rather significant. Note how every class in the game has access to a form of soft CC on a multitude of weapons/utilities, but the guardian hasn’t.

You can argue L2P all you like, versus a skilled engineer or spirit ranger, that makes duelling nearly impossible because they have very good mobility and the guardian can only catch up with them so many times. In most cases, it turns into a battle of attrition due to how those builds – and other similar builds – work and the guardian will lose in 80% of all cases simply due to lack of soft CC.

If you think I’m a scrub, by all means, add me on friend list and we’ll duel.

Scepter#1
Projectile Finisher(or at least 20% Projectile Finisher). If it hits from far away like a projectile, gets reflected like a projectile and looks like a projectile, it is a projectile.

Spirit Weapon Hammer
Causes Chill on hit. Guardians need some soft CC.

Spirit Weapon Bow
Shoots arrows at enemies instead. The arrows bounce up to 3 times between allies and enemies. If the arrow hits an enemy it causes Crippled(more soft CC). If the arrow hits an ally it removes a condition.

Tomes
Tomes should work like Conjured Weapons, but only into the Guardian’s hands, Instead of currently being a Transformation, where you lose all Utilities and Virtues, along with all Virtue Passives or Signet Passives.

Idea 1: Yes, this projectile needs more love, it’s basically a bad fireball.

Idea 2: Not sure how often it hits but if the chill isn’t too long, yes. And yes, guardians need soft CC badly but only people who play the class in high tier PvP actually understand this.

Idea 3: Either needs to shoot faster or do what you recommend, healing field should also always be centered on the guardian.

Idea 4: The tomes boost your HP immensely and give a permanent boon when active, that is very powerful. I would like to see guardians retain utilities through it though, otherwise the skill feels too hampering for its 3 minutes cooldown.

Consensus on the word "OP"?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Aedrion.6483

Aedrion.6483

To me OP means not exactly overpowered but being too effective for the amount of skill needed to pull it off.
Is MM Necro super-uber-unbeatable? – No. But it requires no skill whatsoever apart from running around and spamming skills off cds to be somewhat effective.
Is Spirit Ranger OP? – No. But all you do is run around and count on procs+evasion to outlast your foe. Compare to the amount of effort needed by e.g. a thief to beat it.
Full Dire P/D thief (WvW)? No. Lacks pressure and killing power vs decent people but it can be literally unkillable.
I would also include passive procs, regardless of the prof, that just are detrimental to the skill-factor in this game e.g. sigil of tormenting, incediary powder…
I could go on forever but I hope that Ive got my point across.

TL;DR Very strong specs and combos should require exceptional skill to use effecitvely and not be available to an average player.

One of the few actual on topic replies and one that I agree with.

A warrior in PvP with Soldier’s Amulet for high vitality, toughness and power who uses sigil of intelligence to crit for 8K with eviscerate while himself being next to unkillable is OP. I played it, it requires next to no skill or attention to pull it off, you can stay alive even under pressure and you can almost one-shot classes like thieves and elementalists, that have a hard time even putting a dent into you.

Honourable mention to engineers, whom thanks to no-cooldown kits have 24 skills in a free rotation, have no skill ceiling can thus become completely broken OP if the player is very, very skilled. While that same player on any other class could not be as powerful. That too is a from of something being overpowered.

Keeping Virtues on Passive

in Guardian

Posted by: Aedrion.6483

Aedrion.6483

my heal virtue passive is 217

I never want to cast it

If you reached a whooping 217 per second with it, that probably means you’re loaded with healing power and have alteast 4 in virtues for the more powerfull effect.

Which means Passive vs Active is something along the lines of:

217 passive healing per second on self vs 2400 AoE healing too allies, 1500 regen on 5 allies, cleanse 3 conditions from allies and 3 seconds retal on a 50 second cooldown.

Still a MUCH better active.

Keeping Virtues on Passive

in Guardian

Posted by: Aedrion.6483

Aedrion.6483

There’s no incentive to keep the active going.

Doing 400 burning on every 5th attack is nowhere as good as 3 might, blind and big burn. Healing for 100 per second is okay-ish… but it stacks horribly with healing power and the active heal is much better. Getting a random Aegis is beyond bad, Aegis is only useful if you can time it to actively block something you do not want hitting you. This goes for the minor trait in 5 valor too.

I never keep them on passive, as soon as they have a use, I pop them. Incentivising a choice by adjusting the passive is something I’d love to see!

Aedrion.6483

I think the point is to design a hilarious OP class?

“The Divine Crusader”

Uses only one weapon, a weapon unique to the class, the poleaxe!
The Divine crusader has 5 stances similar to the elementalists attunements.

- Deadly Stance: You gain +500 power and all your abilities in this stance inflict cripple.
- Defensive Stance: You gain +500 toughness and all your abilities in this stance grant you and nearby allies protection for 3 secs.
-Berserker Stance: You gain +500 precision and every critical strike grants you might for 10 seconds. You also look angry.
Healing Stance: You gain +500 healing and all your attacks are water fields and blast finishers
- Necromancer Stance: You gain +500 condition damage and all your skills apply Torment, burn, bleed and chill.

Healing skill:

Shelter Signet, Passive, you heal for 450 for each attack you land on a target, active, you block all attacks for 5 seconds and heal for 80% Of your total HP. 20 secs cooldown

Utilities:

Engineer’s Fury: A kit that when equipped changes your weapon to a pistol and turns all your attunments into the various kits an engineer can use. No cooldown.

Signet Of Spitefull rage: Passive, grants you a random boon every 1 second for 10 seconds, active, grant yourself might fury and swiftness and inflict all conditions in the game on an opponent for 25 seconds and turn them into a moa.

The Banhammer: Summon a spetral hammer that bans people from the game, upon hit, disconnect the enemy player, upon use, disconnect all enemy players in an area.

Elite skill:

Tome of Divinty

- Heal all allies for 2500 and deal 2500 damage to all enemies in an area.
- Send forth a cone of judgement, dazing all enemies for 5 seconds and granting allies quickness, fury and might for 5 seconds.
- Summon Commander Siegerazor and an Arrow Cart
- Banish your foe the The Ascalonian Catacombs with a group full of new players.
- Heal all allies back to full and kill are nearby enemies.

Class starts at level 55 and has unique appearances, they can also use any armour type.
Every dodge roll, makes you yell yarr and summons a Tropical bird.

[Engineer] Flamethrower Skill Concerns

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Aedrion.6483

Aedrion.6483

No.

To this whole tread.

Engineer is flexible and powerful enough in PvP without a single utility skill on no cooldown turning him into a monster. Combine that with what the engineer can already do and one engineer will just destroy everything.

What specifically do you not want changed about the FT?

How many hours on a FT engineer do you have? I ask because the pronouns you use direct every comment you made as exclusive. Suggesting you have little to know experience on an engineer, or you would say we, me, or us. Comes off as a very non-constructive and bias reasoning to simply not give “any profession but my main” and positive changes.

Honestly though, I think the majority of the skills are in good shape, except for flame jet. Which either needs a 1s burn added to the first tic, or a percentage of direct damage increased.

As far as flame blast, I do not ever see them making the ’blast" a blast finisher. In the end, they wil simply change the name like they did with explosive shot.

That last part of what you said is what I meant. The FT is already pretty powerful. And the main reason engineers can do anything and everything in PvP – I play one too – is because we can easily swap in and out of kits without a cooldown. Asside from the burning tick on FJ being in the first second and not the last there’s little to nothing I’d change.

Nobody wants to see a grenade engie who, when you catch upto him as any close range class, picks up the FT and just wrecks you with it up close. The class draws its strenght in PvP from kits and their lack of cooldown. Make those kits more powerful and things spiral out of control.

Staff 2 is actually pretty good damage and it’s mainly good for healing + dmg in one.

The Zeal trait does +5% damage to all Greatsword attacks and heals you for ~25 each hit.

The +5% damage is nice, certainly, but the healing is really underwhelming. Even with massive healing power, it doesn’t heal for even 50. With ~300 healing power it heals for ~30.

Is it me, or could this trait do with a bit of a buff? Say instead of 25 healing with next to no healing power, it heals for 50 with no healing power, and goes upto 100 when you have 1000+ healing power, keeping in mind that 1k+ healing power hurts the damage output significantly.

Thanks for a the replies, I think SPNKr so far has the right of it, guardians have to choose between being either good at duelling or good in teamfights. My aim was to have a build that can do all of that in one.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNArfRlsApcoNDxaI8DNR8QVVAg9V8fV61zwRkDA-TJBBwAAeEAeODA12fAcZAA

It looks pretty sweet on paper, you’ll see. Relies on might stacking to not only hit like a truck but also apply conditions that tick for ~550. Sadly Sigil of accuracy is bugged and doesn’t work so I run intelligence these days.

I was able to go 1v1 with it vs classes that normally make guardians sweat, Mesmers, engineers etc. Because they don’t have excellent condi removal.

I also just feel cheated that Selfless Daring is only 50% as strong in PvP as it is anywhere else. The idea behind the build was that with that much healing power, I’d have massive sustain due to dodge roll synergy. But it only heals for about 400.

I know there’s many builds out there but on all other classes , I can take my duelling build into group fights and do fine, on the guardian, I can’t. With the Vigor nerf, Dodge roll heal nerf and nerf to direct damage, I feel guardians took a fist to the face and ate it.

“I can’t count how many times I jumped into an outnumbered fight timing shield of wrath explosion with JI and then Leap of faith and seen 2-3 enemies instantly downed , and if not definitely scattering like ants with low hp and long burns on them.. Which of course then prompts GS 5/2.”

Not sure what level of skill those opponents have or how glassy they were but versus the people I play, that is impossible. xD

Is it just me or are they hard countered by just about every ranged class that can kite?
That’s not to say mobility is always bad but without swiftness or some soft CC, I feel like I’m at an automatic disadvantage versus ranged classes or high mobility classes.

I spent the whole day duelling people on various classes/builds and with various skill levels. That’s new people and legendary champion title people. I noticed that versus a mesmer, engie, ranger and necro with skill equal to mine, I struggle very hard to beat them and often lose because they can stealth or run away to heal while kiting me and while I get loaded with condis.

In the end, as I got to fighting the meta builds and stuff that guardians really struggle with, continuous condi application, slows, snares, dazes I lost over and over. Even when I timed all my skills, dodged all the bad stuff and stacked might with blocks, I couldn’t beat them. I even spectated how they played and they weren’t even that fast most of the time. they just had skills that applied conditions on short cooldowns.

I feel weak now, when I played later on a warrior, engie and ele, I won those same fights, and more. It made me feel like DPS guardian just… doesn’t work. Without perma vigor, I’m slow and sluggish and I can’t stack various boons like many other classes can. The guardian skills don’t do anything but direct damage, no real condi’s, no CC, no significant self buff like regen. Just look at your skills, some of them apply boons for like 1-2 secs but most of them just “do damage”.

I feel weak, and since PvP and my guardian is basically all I play for, I really feel like this nerf to direct damage and to vigor may have just broken the class for me.

Am I wrong here, or do other DPS guardians feel the same?

The state of Necromancers in PvP

in Necromancer

Posted by: Aedrion.6483

Aedrion.6483

Basically necro is really strong against inexperienced players but gets rather weak against good teams up to a point where having a necromancer is a burden for your team

Untrue. This is probably a matter of personal skill. Good necromancers are very hard to kill and can deal a lot of damage. If you don’t have hard CC and incredible nuking powers, you’re dead.

The only thing Necromancers are really bad at is surviving stunlocks and huge burst, but that goes for most of the classes. They also have limited team support. Necromancers make up for these drawbacks by having a giant HP pool, excellent conditions or immense damage output and several ways to outlive pressure. Having a good necromancer on your team is most certainly not a bad thing, especially versus high level teams.

I’m a guardian, I have no Iwin-button. I have to win by playing skilfully.

Are you bloody kidding me?

Guardian and soft CC conditions.

permanent 240 radius symbol, pokeball guardian, immobilize, swiftness with staff, ability to have 3 teleports and one jump… Snare with Greatsword, There’s CC on almost every single weapon…
Can get more chill with runes, cripple with sigils get ’m, use ’m and stop bothering the devs for stuff that you already have and can get.

I do not know in which dimension a dps guardian can have all of those at once and still do damage, but I’m pretty sure They only have 2 offensive teleports and a sigil of cripple on crit doesn’t exist. I also don’t know what a pokeball guardian is but it sounds delcious.

Try some duels versus high tier players on a dps guard, you’ll see what I mean pretty fast.

Same here, in PvP, if I die, it stops working. I have to swap them in and out for them to work again. Pretty annoying since I rely heavily on this one.

Rune of balthazar vs flame legion

Hard choice, I don’t know.

Burning uptime with guardian traits is already really good and Flame Legion adds 7%damage to it, with Fiery Wrath, that’s 17% dmg on any burning enemy.

Selfless Daring: This one is borderline useless to me because its real effectiveness is only useful if you happen to have tons of HP. Unlike other dodge-roll traits, this one is heavily influenced by a stat that scales terribly.

Did you just put selfless daring in a list of useless traits? How dare you! Go play a warrior, you don’t belong on these forums, heathen!

Guardian and soft CC conditions.

I think the guardian class needs to have some soft CC conditions on several of the weapons. I don’t want to QQ, I’m simply trying to suggest something.

People often claim guardians have mobility problems but that’s not actually true, the main weakness is that they cannot really impede other classes through means of conditions.

Example:
I can catch up with a ranger just fine, but he might have swiftness, and many evades. So I can’t keep up. I have leaps and teleports but he’s faster and I can’t slow him down. In the end, unless he messes up and I can burst him bit by bit, he’ll kite me until I run out of options.

Here’s what I’d suggest.

- Greatsword 5, when using pull causes 3 seconds of cripple to all affected targets.
- Hammer 4, when hitting a target, applies cripple and weakness for 7 seconds.
- Mace 3, when triggered applies weakness to all targets for 5 seconds
- Sword 2, instead of blinding, chills the target for 2 seconds.
- Shield 4, applies chill to 5 enemies for 3 seconds.

These are not overpowered changes but they’re changes that make sense to allow the guardian to catch up and stay catched up with a running opponent until he either removes the condition, it expires becasue of short duration or simply dodges.

Do skill requirements differ too much?

After 1300 hours on my ele I still practice d/d combos to this day. There are actually quite a few potential combos that do take quite a bit of skill. Like activating shocking aura and then using the burning speed + Lightning Flash combo as soon as your opponent is stunned, this will allow you to make your opponent eat more of the fire trail.

Ele is a class that is able to be good at a lot of things. It scales well with skill level indeed. I heard about the Lightning Flash and burning speed combo from a friend too, it’s so hard but so good

Meanwhile other classes can just whack a button and do the same damage :S

List begins good but near the end, the reasoning behind it falls a bit short. I do agree that guardians have a lot of absolutely useless traits. I mean we have a trait that increases damage down while downed by 50% If you’re down, you’re out in most cases, and this trait doesn’t even help us survive, it increases damage done? O_o

I’d love to see a revamp of many minor traits and several mayor ones. Some of the traits that have good synergy compete with eachother too, allas.
