Not complaining about siege building. You guys nailed me at that hills fight. I do take exception to video involving the Briar Choke point though. Seriously. Youtube is full to bursting with videos of zergs getting wiped at Briar.

As for bragging about using Siegerazer, hell yeah. Siegerazer is the ONLY way to get an equal sized force out of the Briar Choke. I would argue that in Devons deranged brain, that choke point is the entire reason Siege Razer even bothers to walk into the tower. realizing this is proof of competency. Believe me, I know. Any commander that tries to take a defended Briar without Siegerazer is asking for a wipe. Having defended that same choke point with just 5 people, I am fully aware of how lethal it is, and at this point, am not impressed with the gazillion videos people post about it.

So please, lets have videos NOT involving briar, they are more fun to discuss. Because every Briar fight boils down to LOL Arrowcarts! or LOL Siegerazer!

ooooo! Movie Reviews, I love these! And I remember some of these fights, as I was commanding for a few of them. Mind if I give the blow by blow from the opposing side? Of course you don’t :P

Anyway, first scene actually was not from Thursday, that was Wednesday. Rolling up to hills, I was expecting significant resistance and at least 1 scrub on the inner cannon able to destroy all my rams. So I built an Omega. Of course, you guys had a metric butt load of Arrow Carts on the wall, so we were in a pickle when your zerg came up from behind us. I bailed to the right when you went for the omega and we tried to use that as the focus for our fire. Sadly, too many people on our side did not move fast enough and got downed on that first push. We skirted the perimiter of your attack for a bit but in the end I called it and we waypointed out. Manly tears were shed. Only myself and about 10 other people were up by that point.

Second third, and fourth fight in the video, no idea. Not my work and was not there, thank god :P Of course, they all involved the briar tower, which everyone knows is the hardest tower in the game to capture from defenders. Well, everyone as in anyone who plays WvW enough knows this. Honestly, not really impressed. Holding the Briar choke is basic stuff. If you can’t do that you need to go to tier 8.

I’m sad, you got anymore video? Preferably video NOT defending Briar….or even better, do you got video of when I took Briar from you? And I know you do, I recognize the tags. I watched those tags melt one step at a time as I pried you out of Briar inch by inch. You can’t forget it either. I know you remember. Siegerazer leading the charge and those Borlis noobs sticking tight behind him, not running int your chokes, ranging your arrow carts and gently guiding razer into your zerg ball every step of the way. You got that video. I know you do.

Not quite, but keep thinking that. I love the blatant shock that happens when I collect bags in the field. Its like you guys believe I won’t come at you….

Good fights in SoS and BPBL tonight. As always, the Briar Tower provided the most entertainment. Desperately trying to get position, clear siege and then our most famed Commander Siegerazer leading the charge up the ramp! You really don’t appreciate just how strong he is until he crashes into an entire zerg, stacked in a choke point with all its utility skills set for Crowd Control. Ouch. He’s one mean kitty.

Thanks for that btw. For months now I’ve been wondering what would happen if a Briar fight lasted long enough for Siegerazer to enter the mosh pit. I now know the answer. Nothing good for the defenders

This has actually been a fun match up. It really does feel like World War Z sometimes though. Garrison still stands however, going on 2 days now despite the best efforts of SoS to PvDoor it. Kudos to its brave defenders.

Just going to throw this out there. Friday Nights, particularly in North America are "Lets go out on the town, have fun with friends, and so on. I really hate choosing between the two loves of my week. Reset Night or Friday Night. Is this just me, or is this a thing for other people?

Saturday Night would be so much better. After all, Saturday Nights are all about chilling at home after a day of doing whatever on Saturday.

You just gotta change the mentality. This is what we asked for. A World boss you can’t just “Zerg”. Rather, he’s a boss that requires thinking. Every person fighting him needs a role. Using the cannon. Guarding a cannon. Clearing adds and tendrels, and fighting the dragon itself. Also, you can’t just sit in place and fight. The fight actually utilizes GW2 combat mechanics. You have to jump, dodge, and use blast finishers to stay alive. Teamspeak is probably also a must.

While my own attempts failed, it was painfully obvious why the attempt failed. People were trying to zerg it, and 40 dead bodies piled up around the dragon and just sat their being useless rather then paying the 1 silver to Waypoint back to the fight. The cannon gunners were kitten too and were not stipping the boon. In essence, in these fights people are doing everything wrong and not approaching it as it is intended. Treat the boss as a BOSS and then maybe you can kill it.

Well, its been almost 3 months. This problem STILL has not been fixed. Necro bumping this thread to remind Anet that the Harathi Hinterlands chain does not scale properly and cannot be done if there are too many people. Not done as in difficult, but rather, as in CANNOT be done purely from a game mechanic point of view.

Well, I had a blast tonight SBI. Never seen so many people willing to run to their deaths over and over again for 6 hours straight. Your persistence is something that I am honestly in awe over. We should do this again sometime. Hope those few times you spent in our hills were suitably entertaining

Anyone who knows my commanding style knows that I rarely hide on walls. I do however love to build an AC ontop of said wall and then jump down to kill the skill group that seems to think they can wipe my forces with said AC up on the wall raining death on them. I think I did this to you a couple weeks ago Jinks :P

WvW is a game of capture the castle. If you want a game where the goal is to rack up a body count, go play games where that is objective, like call of duty rather then GW2 WvW. I think by now it should be abundantly clear that is was the dev’s vision of WvW is. More to the point, that’s entirely what its been since day 1 and every add on to WvW has been to encourage the dynamic of capture the castle over racking up a kill streak. I’m not going to cry tears into my beer over the lack of 1 on 1 fights and not getting rewards for wiping zergs. I rather enjoy WvW, and in my mind, winning means having the highest score at the end of the week. How you get there is really not important.

Amazing campaign in EBG tonight. I had originally just planned to bring my guildies onto the map to practice our open field combat. Somehow, it morphed into a server force plowing through qued maps of Ehmry and Maguuma. Very strange all things considered, because at the start of the evening I only had 15 people with tbh, it was a refreshing change of pace, considering its usually been the other way round for us. I noticed Mag in particular did not quite seem to know what to make of it. You guys had an almost sadomasochistic desire to get SM back from us. While I admit our cap of it was kinda, well, evil (like Ninja) you should not have let rage drive you to such suicidal battles! Though they too, were alot of fun.

This post prompted me to take over. I usually don’t command Monday nights due to work, but well, I love a challenge like this. An overrun borderland is like a virgin field, waiting to be plowed anew :P Was alot of fun fighting you guys tonight. We won some fights, and lost some, but you never did get Garrison or Bay back from us after we got them back. I think that was okay with PYRO though, they seemed to just be rolling around looking for fights towards the end.

That Hills fight just now. I can only assume Maguuma feels the warbanner trait is hopelessly broken atm. Can’t say I disagree though. That was pretty cheap how we chain warbannered that for 5 minutes while we rallied defenders :P

You really should read the blog posts. Anet is planning on creating a 3 “Leagues” to “even things out”. They will run for a “season” and you are stuck with the options within your league. Since there are only going to be 3 leagues (Gold, Silver, Bronze) That means anyone who has the horrid misfortune of being the Rank 9 server at the point of impact will be subjugated to 3 months of an alternating beatdown by Dragonbrand, Blackgate and Sanctum of Rall. While this would indeed be “interesting” for the server with the misfortune to roll 9th position in a couple of weeks, the knowledge of this has had the sad effect of creating a chilling effect amongst servers, like BP, that are on the border between the Gold and Silver leagues.

Most of BP’s commanders have not been playing for a myriad of reasons. Myself, i’ve barely played GW2 since reset night due to my anal retentive professors. I think the bigger problem though is the new league match ups Devon has announced.

Fact is, BP enjoys being a mid tier server and getting facerolled by Dragonbrand and Blackgate just does not sound like fun at all. Our desire to excel has subsequently crashed through the basement. Since the only “reward” waiting for us for going balls to wall is the assured promise of a 3 month long butt kitten , most folks here on BP have pretty much stopped playing and are doing the PvE side of the house.

Can’t really explain it. I subscribe to the school of thought to always play to win, but I can’t really preach much since I have not played at all since Friday. I did not even have time to do my Sunday temple run. Sad panda is sad. Good work to SBI for integrating your new transfers though, well done. I too find that the kind of person who farms is usually also someone who is both rude, irritable and will freak out at the slightest provocation, real or otherwise perceived. I suppose it goes with the psychological profile of someone willing to do the same thing, over, and over, and over again for hours and hours and hours on end.

I have tried farming. Farming Karka, Farming Champs, even these living story farms. I get bored within 1 hour and go do something else. I like the sense of accomplishment more then seeing my gold counter up. besides, now that I have my legendary, gold is really just something I accumulate. I really have no idea what to spend it on. Its kinda like my WvW badges of honor. Its just sitting there in wallet, slowly increasing in size.

I wish Mags and the other server would start recruiting so we can have a competitive match. The populations are too low for us.

I’ve actually been saying that it would be better for people to transfer down rather then up. That way we get more variety of fights. Alas, front loading seems to be here to stay. Woke up to seeing everything capped by Dragonbrand this morning. We set to work capping it all back. The uplevel zerg came back briefly, but after a couple of wipes at Garrison they must have logged off and either gone to sleep or clockwork because the recapture of Hills, Bay and Overlook was essentially just PvDoor.

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have a zerg running somewhere 24/7, but, that would mean moving higher in the tiers which IMO is not really a good thing. Being mid tier is fun. Sometimes you get a kittened hard week like this, and other times you get to give a nice relaxing face stomp.

Oh, I know. Mag also has more people round the clock then we do. We get evenly matched during the prime time, and thats honestly when things are the most interesting, but Borlis more often has to fight outmanned. its how we’ve gotten so high up already. I remember the first time we met SBI back in June. We would be outmanned in eternal 24/7.

I would not say “siege is a crutch”. Its more a “force multiplyer”. And honestly, all of us have gotten really good at placing Arrow Carts and trebuchets inside keeps and towers. Lacking a significant number of skilled Guild Groups and a persistent WvW presence that form a solid force on any map 24/7, we’ve had to resort to alternative strategies people in higher tiers tend to disdain. I know Ehmry Bay had kittens about us “hiding in towers”. Of course, given the opportunity you should always use a tower to your advantage :P

Hmm, I recall hearing some BP thinking they were ready to face Maguuma besides, that’s hardly an excuse. Everyone knew the outcome when we faced JQ but that didn’t stop us from having an epic thread that week

Oh, we were ready. Thing is, part of BP’s “Grand Strategy” is not letting our keeps get papered with all the siege we use to defend them destroyed. We have a very defensively minded strategy based around our 4 keeps, but Garrison and Overlook specifically. During our off hours, we make sure they can survive even determined attacks. But this also depends on not losing them during those off hours.

Fact is, the 30 odd people who WvW around 6 AM US Eastern Time simply were not enough to keep Dragonbrand out of our keeps during the early morning, and when Maguuma woke up they always were able to capitalize on capping behind Dragonbrand before we could even fix the doors.

Which is why I really hope we will get to fight Mag again, preferably with a more evenly matched third wheel for us like Yaks Bend.

Nah, I like Borlis, more choices. btw, I also love desperate defensive actions. Won’t get that with Jade Quarry. I suppose I’ve just had my hat on too long. I see WvW more as a game of Grand Strategy, akin to something like Europa Universalis 2. Instead of simple pieces on the game map though, its real people I can talk too. Half the time I have my map up rather then actually looking at what is going on in front of my as I plot my next maneuver and where to send the forces following me.

Guild Wars 2 is honestly a very refreshing change for a jaded Real Time Strategy gamer like myself. I don’t see this game as 1 on 1 like Call of Duty. To me, its an RTS where I also get to fight in the battles I help to arrange. Its an amazing change of perspective, and thats the way I like playing it.

Though I have been known to roam on occasion to mix it up, so please look for the red Sylvari Necromancer in white armor. We can fight sometime
