So yeah, There are a few keeps and Towers in WvW that are close to water. Mendons Gap, Anzalius Pass, the Lake Tower, Briar Tower, Langor and of course the Bay Keeps, Garrison (to an extent) and Lowlands. Bay and Lowlands also have water accessible gates.
So this is how I see it work. The subs would be identical to the ones the Pact uses in Straights of Devastation. Underwater they fire two harpoons in quick succession. Surfaced they have a cannon that has the range/power of a trebuchet. Essentially a water based trebuchet.
This would allow sieging of the Briar and Lake towers from the water environment in the middle of the Borderlands, as well as being able to attack the Garrison Water Gate from the water, and attacking both Inner and Outer bay aquatically. Clever placement can also allow them to be used in Eternal to attack Langor, Anzalius, Mendons, Overlook, Valley and Lowlands.

I do like the mines idea however. Of course, then the idea will be to send a solo golem first to pop the mines and have the rest follow after. But mines could be fun.
Which is the sign of a good feature. It serves a purpose but there is a work around if you know what you are doing.
Maguuma
You could always read the wiki. Reading is fun!
he first Ambush is as the Pact first begins moving up the hill towards the temple. Two rotmouths and a swarm of enemies will spawn on the uphill slope. This causes players to get pulled to the front of the Pact soldiers. However, the very second the last enemy of this spawn is killed a second wave twice as large as the first will spawn immediately behind the pact and immediately attempt to kill them. It is essential that all players are standing behind the Pact and ready to spam AOE the moment this occurs. Necromancers utilizing plague form would be the most ideal, as they are more defended. The amount of enemies in this ambush is so great, if there are not enough players pulling agro the few brave souls doing so will be killed instantly. It is also important to be standing away from the NPCs, as the ambush fight opens with Casters launching AOE at the players. If the players are standing amongst the NPCs, they will be hit and morale will drop precipitously.

There was a thread earlier where the higher ranked servers were begging people to stop transferring to them. Apparently the ques are getting out of hand.
Maguuma
There is presently no defense against a well executed golem rush. Arrow Carts can’t stop them, and smart attackers nail the cannons 15 seconds before the Alphas smash the door.
Anet, we need a third Trap. Land Mines. That only go off if an Alpha/Omega is driven over them.
Maguuma
Numbers will always determine the battle. The one who has the most money, the most people, and the most guns will win.
Maguuma
This is still Bugged. Kindly request Anet fix this soon, and also, return all those influence we’ve wasted trying to finish Guild Treks
Maguuma
If Alphas are continuously used at that rate, the price will inevitably spike hard. Anet could also reduce the drop rate from chests and NPC’s.
Maguuma
Invest in Cannon Mastery and Burning oil.
PROTIP: Omegas do as much damage to gates as Alphas. The Omega is not an Anti-Gate weapon. It is a mobile Anti-personnel weapon like the Arrow Cart.
Maguuma
Oh lord. The bodies are going to be stacked to the ceiling this week.
Maguuma
If anyone tries to go to the Idea Incubation Lab in Rata Sum (Including Asura) they get put in Jail. This is a HUGE problem if you want to do Guild Treks, since this is a trek location.
Maguuma
I wonder what BURN, ORL and GOAT think now. Odds are good we will be fighting them soon. And beating them. Can’t wait till we get Maguuma, and we will at the rate things are going.
Woah now, you have to walk before you can run.
Yaks was about as ranked as Maguuma. As was SBI. We’ve beaten them both, so I’m sure we can give Mag a run for their money.
Maguuma
I have a better idea. Why don’t you just level a new character.
Maguuma
Giving them actual names? Honestly that might be the best suggestion yet!
Thread made! Spam it so its noticed :P
Maguuma
This was brought up in a thread about the claimers being called Lords even though they are all female. And its honestly a great idea.
Give each tower and Keep in WvW a named NPC as the claimer, and one that has its own unique set of skills. Like say, the Lord Covington of Greenbriar gives buffs to allies, while the Lady Slynt of Anzalius Pass has a massive AOE attack.
A little change like this would add some much needed depth to the WvW experience.
+1 if the claimers actually say things while fighting, like other Bosses in the game do. Can you imagine the epic, if in the middle of a desperate fight for your Garrisons inner room, the Keep Lord cries out “Rally to me Comrades, we shall drive them out!” I know you can do it Anet. “Your weakness makes me laugh.”

BS went from about 15 people online for reset to almost 50 in the space of a few weeks after a few of our major guilds left. No guild is irreplaceable. In fact, I am of the opinion a guild leaving a server is good for the server. Fair weather players are not wanted or needed.
I wonder what BURN, ORL and GOAT think now. Odds are good we will be fighting them soon. And beating them. Can’t wait till we get Maguuma, and we will at the rate things are going.
Maguuma
Its fine the way it is.
Maguuma
Indeed. It’s a serious issue and I demand investigation.
For how long WvW can be in such unpolished state? It’s unacceptable.
I know, clearly a sign of a lack of planning. Female Lords. Next there will be Quaggon Guards.
Maguuma
Nah, Arrowcarts were fine. You can see through gates that don’t completely rise to the top of the wall and shoot behind them. Try it sometime
Maguuma
All the Keep “Lords” and Tower “Lords” are females. Why are they called Lords rather then Ladies?

This matchup has been really amazing to watch from the outside… score evolution and forum watching.
I wish there was a way to go into other matches in spectator mode. Does Darkhaven have one final push in it tonight? 6k isn’t an insurmountable lead, but Yaks can turtle up pretty kitten well too… would make for great twitch tv!
Meh its been ok — We here at Yaks have been making a strong push the last 24hrs..
Well yes, because BP took the brakes off you guys and pulled out of Shadaran Hills to go destroy Darkhaven. Switching gears again!
Chest thumping aside now. Well done to all the BP people who capped Stonemist tonight and got rid of that rather annoying waypoint. It was a textbook capture of an upgraded and defended SM. Operations commenced at 4:30 and the castle was taken by 6:30. It only took 3 pushes on the Lords Room to cap, and we made each one count. That said though, Yaks, why did you blow 1,400 supply on the walls? We were nuking them with 8 trebuchets <_<
Oh thank you so much for the civil talk, you are a great opposition.
On a side note, I’m extremely impressed BP, you should seriously try out for some marathons at this rate! Amazing!
Back at you As for us doing things marathon style, we usually set a goal for ourselves and then beat our faces on it until we finally succeed. Earlier tonight it was blow up Stonemists Waypoint. I think now its getting you guys out of our bay. Its OUR bay!

Get your own borderland! This one’s ours! >:D
I stand corrected.
BP loves getting vacation homes in the enemy borderlands. Our favorite is the hotel with the mountain vistas and breathtaking views. But we love the lakeside one too. Its got a pool in it.
Maguuma
Wow DH, you really like our hills. Seemingly more then you like your own >_>
Maguuma
I think us as a server needs to learn and understand a loss of everything in EB is only a loss of 75 ppt while a loss of everything in our bl is 145 if my math is correct.
I’m honestly surprised it got to the point of 2 waypoints in DH’s borderlands. As you guys discovered when you flipped our Hills just now, the moment we lose something important in our BL its all hands on deck, que the map.
Maguuma
The Imperial Borlisean 1st Armored Cavalry Regiment is holding in DH’s Bay.
Maguuma
And we lose our BL…
It seems every content patch we forget about wvw, well at least with our BL anyways.
BP had been focusing on Yaks Bend for much of this match up. However, DH became the bigger point threat, so we had to switch gears and abandon our vacation home at Shadaran Hills to send our forces at DH. You reach for the stars and get burned. :P
Maguuma
Most rankings are really only an indication of population, not skill. The top three servers are not there because they are “better”. They are there because they have a metric crap ton of people on them at all hours.
Maguuma
We are working on Darkhaven now. Their numbers are honestly not what we thought they would be. DH is clearly running on a High right now. But to be fair, BP defeated Ehmry Bay the first time we clashed for a similar reason. Remains to be seen if this is Darkhavens usual grind or if they are just more dedicated this week because of them getting 2 tough servers.
Maguuma
The golem rush on Garrison last night was 8 Alphas and 1 Omega.
Maguuma
Oh man, heck of a day in the motherland. We went from defending Bay from BP and YB zergs, at the same time (and while one of them also hit Hills) in the evening, to beating back successive golem rushes from both servers in the night.
Get your own borderland! This one’s ours! >:D
You were’nt really defending bay from both us and yaks bend. Yaks was doing everything they could to monkey wrench our attack on you, constantly flipping vale camp, destroying our trebs, forcing us to pull off Bay to fight them. Honestly they helped you and were the primary reason we could not take bay. Them’s the brakes though.
Don’t really understand the logic though. My school of tactics says it does not matter which invading server flips a keep in a borderland, so long as they do it and make it wood. Just makes it easier for me to show up and flip it myself later. But I suppose Yaks felt they could handle it on their own and did everything they could to stop us from flipping it. Which did not make sense to me since the better alternative would be for them to focus on Hills while we hit Bay, since that would have split your defense.
In the end though we could not take either keep, largely due to BP and Yaks spending more time fighting each other in DH Borderlands then DH. So I will chalk tonight up as a double fail for us both. I suppose it could be a win for Yaks if their commanders objective was simply to prevent us from flipping Darkhavens Bay though. Don’t see how that would help them stop losing the match, since DH is in the lead, albeit, not by much :P

This World Boss has actually one of the harder ones. The pre-event Champion is nothing to sneeze at, and the defense of the Asura Krew is pretty difficult too if you don’t got alot of people. Compared to the pre-events for Maw, Jungle Worm, Shadow Destroyer, Even the Claw and Shatterer, its easily one of the hardest world bosses to trigger. The fight itself is also difficult. Unlike any other world boss, there is an actual time limit you have to meet, and the thing hits pretty hard. Not to mention all the lava.
Yet, inexplicably it is the only world boss that does not give a bonus chest. This is confusing to me. And also explains why almost nobody does Megadestroyer. Its like Anet decided to make the one challenging world boss in the game functionally useless to do.
Maguuma
since BP doesnt have to face ebay for a while, i guess they are slowly coming out of their safe zone and feel like acting big time. WvW is srs bsns
We acted like it was the big time against Ebay too.
Maguuma
Oh sure, take one person and call it a server. Don’t judge an entire server by a bad egg. And to be honest I’m positive every server has ‘zoom hackers’
Fun match-up so far, loving all the attention our BL is getting from both teams.
That’s all.
Yeah, its just this one guy. All your other commanders are above board. Don’t feel bad though, even with his shenanigans he still lost 15 Alpha Golems and an Omega golem, so I’m really not even mad. I kinda feel bad for him honestly.
Maguuma
Take everything back. YB, we’ve seen one of your commanders, several times, doing something…well…interesting with an Arrow Cart on our North Gate. We’ve tried to replicate the feat with limited success. Might want to check your plumbing. He’s in a guild called FoW. We’ve watched it enough times to know.

Aeros, your obsession with us is borderline mental. You really didnt do anything amazing. You beat us with better coverage and organization. 1 of 2 of those things we could control but still wouldnt affect the outcome.
No obsession, just thought you’d like to know xD
Maguuma
Rejoice SBI. Borlis Pass just Waypointed and Tier 3 Walled Yak’s Bends hills. Now another server can experience your pain.
Maguuma
Its all relative though. Play long enough, even casually and you’ll get things. Perhaps specialize each character based on its abilities? For instance, a Warrior would be awesome for Siege Might because he can be all tanky on the rams. Conversely, a Necromancer would make a nice Arrow Cart master because he can fear people off him in tough field fights or a Keep overrun situation. Guardian can be a good cannon master because he can bubble himself (and the cannon) and get more shots off, possibly at that Golem Rush coming in.
Maguuma
No, its this one.

There is too much love in this thread, not enough drama. Come on, there must be SOMETHING we don’t like/hate about each other?!
Maguuma
So yeah, in case all were not aware, warriors war banner and necromancer “signet of undeath” and other class raising skills, can instantly raise a keep lord. Or any lord/camp supervisor for that matter. It’s a rather effective way for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I’m just curious as to whether Anet truly intended this mechanic for WvW. It just seems downright obnoxious to me.
Maguuma
I must say I am quite impressed with this match up. Yaks really knows how to bring the fight, and defend things. Also, Darkhaven, despite being the weakest server in this match up, is going balls deep into the strongest server. Loving it. This is how you WvWvW.
Maguuma
Well fudge. We were literally 10 supply away from reinforced doors when you guys breached hills for the second time. The upgrade completed just as you were capping. The fault lies with a lone pug who DESERVED that 10 supply, despite our desperate begging to not take it. For serious. 10 supply stood between us and reinforced doors. At least you had to pay for it. How many trebs and golems did you throw at hills?
Maguuma
(edited by Aeros.2046)
Well, admittedly its not on the roof, but we do have a en suit pool and spa built underneath the Lords Room of Shadaran Hills. You guys REALLY should try and check it out.
Maguuma
I have a quick question to sbi server. Why do you guys always try for sm or defend it with basically all your forces when bp tends to always own your borderlands? Having sm gains you 35 points but if you don’t own your own borderland then you lose like 100+ points. I don’t see your guys’ logic.
The pugs that run around EB all day aren’t interested in the points. It’s like two different servers honestly – a sporadic crew on the borderlands who have a few experienced WvW players, and a massive karma train on EB with a fairly consistent group of commanders herding them but little PvP experience in the rest of the zerg.
I’m willing to bet there are a lot more Twilight wielders running around in EB too.
I’m not sure what it’s like on other servers (never played anywhere else since beta) but we do have a fair number of people who say they want to stick to EB or borderlands and won’t switch over for anything.
I never really understood this mentality tbh. True, I started out in Eternal like every other noob since there is always action in Eternal. But I eventually realized that while Eternal is well, Eternal, the huge and rewarding fights always take place in the Borderlands. Like that 5 hours battle for BP Bay last night. You never get something like that from a Stonemist fight.
Maguuma
Only in Eternal. Its why we’ve not bothered with it. The Borderlands are fine, which is awesome. It means more people are actually IN the Borderlands, and making it interesting. Also, sorry NSP. We “were” planning to flip Eternal, but the disconnect problem meant we had to Pink Zerg your borderlands.
Maguuma
By all that is holy SBI, you impressed me tonight. You managed to bring the horde to our Borderlands, and lay siege to our bay for 5 kittening hours. Admittedly, you did not take Bay from us, but we were hanging on by our fingernails at some points. At least twice I ordered Banzai charges where it was literally “if we wipe, its all over”. It took us half an hour to fix all the damage you did after everything ended. Thanks for the battle. Twas epic.
Maguuma
I think of it as college divisions. We might be doing ok in our division but would have no business going up against a Division I team because we are just a small New England liberal arts college with only about 3,000 students. Or something like that.
as long as you’re admitting that BP is a liberal arts college full of future starving artists and SBI students are actually studying something useful at tech university.
I guess that makes NSP some random high school team thats making us all look bad by not losing hard enough.
Server ranking is very much based on how many people on the server play WvW. It does not matter how much skill you have if an opponent can fill all the maps 24/7 and you can’t do the same, which is generally what occurs with the tiers above 4 from what I understand. It also sucks hard if you don’t have a large Australian/Asian player base but your opponent does, because this means at 3 AM all your stuff is getting PvDoored and made wood overnight, forcing you to spend the morning clawing back, and the evening upgrading only to have it happen all over again after you go to bed.
Incidentally, there is still no reason for SBI to be losing this match. Yet they still insist on sending 70 Man zombie hordes against the 10-15 people we got in Eternal while their Borderlands is left to the tender mercies of our skill groups.
You just illustrated the reason why SBI is now losing the match. We have a lot of primetime and weekend players. We did very well over the weekend and now our coverage gaps are coming into play. Right now you’re ticking 360 to our 135 because you have more people playing right now than we do. It’s not a knock against you guys or even an excuse for us, it’s just the way the game is played.
It doesn’t really matter what happens in primetime, there are more off-peak hours in the day. We could literally run the table before midnight every night but be unable to defend anything an hour or two later. Most of us go to bed then go to work the next day. You’ve got good coverage, enjoy it.
This is simply not true. BP does not have better coverage then NSP. We are just better at managing our forces.
This is the thing. You guys have a huge zerg blob smacking our towers in Eternal, but it does not matter. Points tick every 15 minutes. It does not MATTER if you Paper Mendons Gap and Anzalius Pass every 20 minutes if you don’t actually try and hang onto it, because our Eternal Crew will simply flip it back before the points turn over and you get no utility out of it.
Furthermore, you don’t hang onto things like you should. When we take something important (like your Garrison) we usually build a bajillion Arrow Carts and wait for you to try and take it back. Take the fight we had in Bay yesterday, and you know the one I am talking about, where you failed to cap the Lords Room three times with the third time being a patch update.
We saw you coming with 50+ people. If you had heard me in Teamspeak, you would have heard frantic screaming, “Jesus, get to Bay, I need these Arrow Carts up NOW!”. We literally had them built as you were busting down the door. We managed to stop you. You got smart, tried to creep siege on us, and then you had us pushed back up against far wall of the Lords Room. We also had AC’s there. At that point we did a Banzai charge and wiped your entire zerg.
I only had 15 to 20 people. The Arrow Carts were what made the difference. Don’t matter how many people you bring. If you get held in a choke by Arrow Carts and the enemy does a fiery great sword stability charge, you are wiped very fast.
tl;dr, learn to map hop and learn how to divide your forces. You aren’t lacking for people to fill your coverage gap, you just have tunnel vision.
