Many people are thinking, “Anet went back on their word”/“Anet changed their fundamental philosophy for GW2”. To an extent, I kinda feel like they had to. Yes, its nice to have a game feel less grindy and have the content spread throughout the game instead of focusing MAINLY on the end game. …But the problem is, its an MMO. Its meant to be ongoing. If your player base, or the majority of them, begin reaching the level cap and have nothing to retain them, many will just plain leave the game. Less people on servers means less people paying for gemshop items which means less money in the bank for Anet. It is, after all, a business.
It’s nice, I agree, that there is so much fun and content for 1-79. I hit 80 though and ran around and completed the 2 zones that are just for level 80 and my brain said to me, "This sucks. Now I’ve done all the ‘work’ for this character and she goes in the mothballs and gets hidden in the closet because….There’s no more adventure for her. I’m glad there’s no real dungeon grind. Its the one thing I truly hated about WoW. Grind dungeon for gear to grind more dungeons to raid to get gear to raid some more… Yuck. That said, there has to be SOMETHING for those level 80 characters to do besides revisit old zones they’ve already completed or endlessly gather materials to craft items they don’t really need anymore.
I personally enjoy crafting, but I have quite a few friends/family members who also play this, and other mmos, who absolutely hate crafting. For them, what’s left at 80 is a chore more than fun.
I’m not purposely trying to troll here if that’s how it seems, but I’d love to see some viable options to keep those people (who unlike me who is an altaholic and will just reroll over and over again) entertained in a game world they love, but have nothing left to do in… So Anet added a new gear set and a dungeon set for them. Its not a requirement of the game. Why wouldn’t a person who didn’t like the new content/concept just skip it?
Do we know for sure then that this gear is going to be super hard to get? If its just a matter of going to the new dungeon and working your way through it and getting a special reward for it…What’s the problem? I guess I just think if its cost prohibitive like legendary weapons are, then I’d say it really stinks. But if you can put a group together and go have fun in epic new content while getting the special gear…how does that hurt?
Personally, I love that there are no set roles needed for groups. I remember the days in other mmos trying for hours to put together groups because there just wasn’t an available tank or healer. I like that if you have a small guild, you can go with whomever/whatever person or professions you have available instead of having to force a profession type on someone who doesn’t necessarily want to play it, for the simple act of guild progression.
That said, I would LOVE if Anet would consider adding ‘participation’ to those who are running around reviving and healing their fallen comrades in battle. Doesn’t seem fair that the person who didn’t do as much damage because he was supporting his team, doesn’t get participation.
*edited because I are not speel gud.
If they aren’t crazy expensive like the legendary weapons, I’ll be happy to go after them. Something in my head is telling me that they’ll be super expensive/difficult to attain though so I really don’t care one way or the other. I’ll just be happy with my exotics and go about my merry way.
For me, its the kids in Lion’s Arch who are deciding which Destiny’s Edge hero they’ll be. I’ve done that story quest for three characters now, and for each of them I’ve had to stop and listen to their dialog. Reminds me of actually being that age and arguing with my brothers about who was the ‘heroiest’ hero
As things are, to be honest, I really don’t see a point to dungeons anyway. The drops in dungeons aren’t any better/more frequent than in the normal world, the experience is seemingly the same, and the overall rewards for them do not match the content within. Just my opinion. I love this game, but don’t bother with dungeons.
I’d be rich in game! I approve of this suggestion! :P
This is the most frustrating, annoying quest I have ever had the misfortune to be subjected to. I love this game and have enjoyed the challenges of jumping puzzles, vistas, story quest and many other things… but this quest is ridiculous. The difference in those things, is that they are optional. In order to continue and progress through your story quest line though, you HAVE to finish this one. Its really upsetting and frustrating to spend 45+ minutes trying to cross a windy bridge that there is seemingly only a very small window to run across.
The short time frame means that if your server lags, your internet lags, or you have a poorer graphics card, its virtually impossible to do this quest because by the time you see that the wind has died down to cross, its already blowing again so you fall. Grrrr. Please consider tweaking this for those of us who don’t have a 15mbps internet connection!
I’m finding that if you just take your character (regardless of level) to the beginner (1-15) zones you can knock them out in a hurry. The events are relatively small, fast and occur fairly often. Try Metrica Province. There’re always events going on there and all but the big fire elemental seem easy enough to complete quickly.
No offense intended to the Original Poster, but I hate this idea. I have enough trouble remembering the unique pin I use for my normal account as I change it about every two weeks. Maybe that’s just my problem though, but I think changing your account pin often and using your protection software (antivirus, malware detection, etc…) is enough.
Is there an alternative authentication program? Some of us, unfortunately, don’t use a mobile phone that is compatible with this type of app. For those of us who use our mobile phones for just calling, and do not have that capability, it’d be wonderful if this program, or a similar one, was available for our PC or maybe through a keychain device. (I know there are a few other games that offer keychain devices for a fee.) I would be happy to plunk down the money for a keychain authentication device or a software program for my desktop. The mobile phone option is just not viable for me (and possibly other customers?) at this time.
Or maybe I misunderstand and this is also a program for my computer?
I’m seriously not experiencing any ‘dead’ zones on my server (Devona’s Rest) It doesn’t seem to matter what zone or what time of day/night I log in. I made the mistake of allowing my young daughter to ‘try’ out the game to see if she wanted her own copy and she switched my server. Upon switching back, I discovered that, while there were three medium population servers when I began, there was only one and a hand full of ‘high’ population ones. The rest were full. I keep hearing that they (Anet) lowered the population cap, but I just don’t see it on my server… Or for that matter, on Ferguson’s…something… when I was ‘accidentally’ server switched.
You know, I’m getting the same kind of response from most of my old WoW buddies… I tried to explain to them that this is the least ‘grindy’ game I’ve ever played, and coming from a wow player where the formula is Grind to 80+, grind dungeons, get gear, grind more dungeons, get gear, grind raids….lather, rinse, repeat… that seemed like a strange response to me. shrug ah well. my buddies don’t know what they are missing.
Norn was my favorite of the two. The story lines there are deliciously cheesy. That area was when I realized how much thought the Anet teams put into storylines/cultures of the different races. I love how they sort of went over the top with the Norn “I want to be a legend!” theme.
I think he means if you Google ‘guild wars 2 forums’ – a link used to be at the top. The organic SEO listing appears to have disappeared from the SERP.
Yeah, it still is at the top when I google guild wars 2 forum. :\
Still pops up for me on google and the home page. Not sure why the issue.
Doesn’t sound like sex noises to me. At all. shrug
OP, your post assumes that the players you see in female human skins are male. I’m learning that this game has a large population of female players. Who’s to say that many of them aren’t women? It may sound odd, but I’ve tried rolling a male player and it just feels strange to me to play a male character so I tend to roll female. My daughter makes fun of me because she says, “Mom, its just pixels” I know that… I have no problem with other women making male characters, it just doesn’t feel quite right for me. shrug
The quickest and easiest way I’ve found to make gold is by selling tradeskill/crafting materials. Also, watch the prices for blues and greens and lower level yellow armors and weapons. I rarely take the highest buyer price for things and I’m making between 5-8gold a day. Doesn’t seem like much, but it does add up.
I should really read better before posting. Watching the market prices is the best way I’ve found without crafting materials. Not accepting the highest buyer prices for things helps a great deal. Also, watch market trends. If a pair of blue rampager’s chain gloves doesn’t sell well today, check back tomorrow and see if it changes. I’m finding the prices for items doesn’t stay the same from day to day and you can use it to your advantage.

What server are you on? I have 28 keys in the bank, and would gladly take you to the vaults and let you in. I am on The Isle’s server.
Same. I was beginning to think maybe there were more tombs I wasn’t finding. Devona’s Rest server.
I’ve heard it said, but mostly I hear “By Raven, is there no end to Tyria?”
I sincerely don’t mean to troll you OP, but if you are unhappy with the game, find a new one. There are so many out there. Personally, I love the experience. That said, I have to agree about some of the end game story voice acting. The female Norn after Fort Trinity …its almost as if they changed voice actresses at that point, and if the voice didn’t sound the same, I’d swear they had! Instead of thinking critically about it though, I’ve decided to find it entertaining!
I think with something like the monthly that encompasses many aspects of the game, we’ll all have to do something we don’t necessarily love. Last month, for me it was WvW. I don’t enjoy PvP but in order to finish the monthly I had to do it. This month too. Its up to each of us to bite the bullet and do the one thing we don’t like, or skip it and miss out on the reward. Its one of those things… Anet can’t please every customer all the time.
I have been leveling alts and haven’t found anywhere to be dead. In fact, I have had greater social experiences this time around. There are fewer people; consequently, people are more interested in working together and/or forming parties. I’ve yet to see anywhere ‘dead’ though.
Same for me. I have altaholism and have yet to find a dead zone. In fact, I’m actually meeting new people/making new friends this go-round.
It is frustrating. I was really enjoying seeing a different story than the one I did the first time through. All I could think is, “Gah, what am I missing?” I hope this gets fixed soon. its a 40’s level quest and my character hit 60 today. Please fix this soon Anet! We know you have other fixes, tweeks and ideas in the works, but we’d all love to see this content!
I agree. I have been quite impressed at the changes and tweeks I’ve seen in the past few months. Its great that Anet is weighing and listening to comments, suggestions and complaints from its customers and adapting to make them happier!
On the same note, yet slightly different direction: During the Halloween events, I ran into an actual Anet GM in Queensdale! He was on his day off, but took the time to help us with an event issue and the problem was fixed in less than 10 minutes time. I’ve never played an MMO with that kind of service.
OP, if you are finding the game not to your liking, it could just be that the game is not for you. Personally, I find it to be one of the best ones I’ve played in a long time. I think often it will come down to personal preference. Not sure why you are having difficulty with the Elementalist! I found with the right build/weapons set, they are pretty hard to kill.
Anyway, best I can offer is this: If you aren’t enjoying the game, it may just not be the game for you. Look around and see if you might find one more to your liking. So many great ones are on the market! Good luck.
Googled it. The wiki says they are token rewards from Sorrow’s Embrace. Hope that helps.
Close Animus Half right. Norn Ranger!
My guess for Tom… Charr Warrior? And how’d you just type “Charr mesmer?” without getting errors for not enough characters?
Yeah, I have a serious problem when trying any jump puzzle when someone else is there. I think I get stage fright or something. So having 8-12 people in there with me… no way I can do it. I have high hopes that if it happens again next year, they’ll consider at least having smaller groups if not allowing it to be a solo climb.
Ok, I understand people on Asian servers being upset by this. I don’t understand EU servers being upset. Noon PST doesn’t that make it like…8pm there? Isn’t 6-9 pm like, prime time for gaming?
Some of us have prior commitments we can’t change at such a short notice. And I think we’re well within our right to express our displeasure at that without being called names.
Thank you.
I didn’t call anyone names. That said, people on US servers have ‘prior commitments’ as well. Those aren’t reserved for just EU server players! That, my friend is called life. As it happens, the event happens at 2pm my time, and I’ll have to miss it for a prior commitment as well. US time zone. shrug my problem.

Didn’t happen on the 22nd until 10:30ish pm CST, so I’m not going to hold my breath that it’ll be out earlier than that today/tomorrow. Not complaining by the way, just offering my opinion!
If you want to farm it, farm mobs that drop bags. The bags will open for the right materials.
Also in my experience the drops from low level zones are low level except in dungeons.
I know when I was messing around in Ashford the other day I got 4 level 6-8 blue items.
This is mostly what I’ve found also; however, I find that you get a mix of your level and low level blues and greens. Occasionally a yellow in your level as well.
Yep, this is frustrating. I’d go do halloween stuff til its fixed, but there wasn’t enough of it out yet to keep busy for twenty minutes, let alone til november. Hopefully there will at least be more halloween stuff released soon if we can’t complete a story quest :\
There’s always this set too. There are other names with slightly different stats in the same level range/tier too. They all have the same look though. http://www.gw2db.com/items/6958-aidans-coat
It amazes me that otherwise intelligent, good natured, good hearted people can become so misguided if a game company has a little issue and has to hold a patch for a few hours. END OF THE WORLD!!!11!
About 8 gold at level 71- no special exotics or anything. I have just really become interested in virtual economies so have spent the last few days playing the trading post and having fun with it. I also have a severe unidentified dye addiction which I’m trying to break.
me too Samrogan! i have to have my dye fix. twitch, twitch
20g and some change.

The folks that said, maybe they can get help with bugs now that the event is behind them…Y’all do realize its probably two completely different teams who don’t necessarily have anything to do with one another right?
Nope, But my husband’s monthly achievement page doesn’t have the ???’s at all. Maybe it has to do with like a special monthly event like Halloween. Could be that next month will not have anything.
Mine is probably fairly obvious. Harathi Hinterlands. WoW reference possibly? Arathi Highlands and the Hinterlands?
It kinda stinks for killing inanimate objects, but I find for monsters/mobs its pretty sweet. I rarely have trouble surviving solo with big group pulls.
I like range, so I go with a Longbow/Short bow combo. Sounds odd, I’m sure, but it works for me.
Are rangers in really as bad of shape as they're being made out to be?
in Ranger

OP, I absolutely love my ranger. I’m terrible at PvP so I can’t really speak for the quality of Ranger PvP or WvW. But for solo, and group I’ve had a ball with mine. In dungeons the pet can be a little tedious because you don’t have a lot of control over what they decide to do sometimes. (I’ve called my pet off many times only to have it ignore the command and go on a rampage and aggro everything in sight.) That said, with a little patience and a whole lot of paying attention in a dungeon, its great fun. Just have to make sure you only ‘let’ it attack what you want it to attack.
Also, I’ve learned that when your ‘call off’ button doesn’t seem to do the trick, pet swap does. If your pet aggros a bunch of monsters, as long as you haven’t fired yet, you can pet swap and ‘call off’ the new pet. The monsters usually retreat.
Excellent post. On my server, Rangers get a lot of guff because its the choice of a bot generation! I hear everything from “Ranger=Easy mode” to, “Ranger’s can’t do enough damage!” Its nice to see there are people like the OP who agree with my point of view. Also, thanks for giving such detailed information. You taught me several things that I think will help me be better at my profession! hugs OP
MrNobody, I love that idea. I wish it would be considered. They could still use the transmutation stones and have the sales, but you could then use the same skin over again without having to always use it.
Good chance they’d sell more transmutation stones that way if someone could ‘swap out’ looks to suit them whenever.
It didn’t seem to matter to me what price either set is. My armor class in the Vigil (which I joined) Makes my character look like a Spartan Soldier’s grandmother, and the Norn set…Its fine, just not worth spending the gold for when the stuff that drops nearly everywhere looks better to me
Edited because I left out words that made it sound like I speak for everyone, and I clearly DO NOT.
I agree with both the OP and the guy right under him. People don’t seem to understand the visual/asthetic nature of the armors/weapons. I realize that the legendary weaponry is for the overall look. That’d be why I won’t bother until maybe more are added with different looks. I have no desire to have my ranger running around with a wreath of flowers that shoots rainbows and little gold stars. Some will love that, I don’t particularly, so I’ll find a nice exotic with the stats I want and be happy. shrug
