Favorite Guild Wars 2 character/NPC?

I never knew her name but in the old Lion’s Arch layout when you went into the Trading Post building there was a human that said something like, “Hey, can I have one of those?” and a little Asura lady that just says, “No” almost before he finishes talking and she said it in such a calm and matter-of-fact way like “The answer will always be no, you are not worthy of my ‘things’ go away mr. troll” and it cracked me up every time I was in there

Useless NPCs in LA Bank should be removed.

Posted by: Ageia.5843

Ageia.5843

Yep. The new Lion’s Arch is beautiful but its layout is already (for me at least) so counter intuitive…add in the fact that 9 chances out of 10 hitting F gets me some random npc who then stands on the banker so that its even harder to click on the banker… ugh.

I fairly regularly avoid LA and go to Divinity’s Reach where the bank and the trading post are right next to each other along with a waypoint and a merchant within about 10 steps.

Thats what I was hoping. I’m sure they’ll be able to get her original account up and running as we have all the information including the ‘welcome’ email from when they received payment for core game, but there’s always the possibility that something could go wrong and I was planning to get her HoT for her birthday on the beginning of July anyway. Thanks for your quick reply

My daughter’s account was hacked while she was away for about a year and a half. We have all the original account information and I’m sure it will eventually get all squared away, but in the event that it doesn’t…

My question is, if I buy her Heart of Thorns with the core game included, does she have to wait to play the core game until HoT launches or does she get to play it straight away? (the core game I mean, obviously she can’t play HoT til its live)

Name an MMORPG better than Guild Wars 2

People always say that Guild Wars 2 sucks and is terrible and stuff.
Please name an MMORPG better than GW2.

Irrelevant. MMORPGs are very mediocre games. Saying something is better than other MMOs is the same as saying that something is better than having your face eaten by kittens – why would you want that anyway?

This topic is useful, though, to highlight the MMO hopping scenario. It’s funny to see how many people here keep have played almost all big MMOs released in the last half decade, without ever finding what they are looking for.

Its not really about not finding what you are looking for though in my opinion. I wouldn’t eat bran flakes every single day of my entire life. Sometimes maybe I want bacon or fruit or cottage cheese or something right? Why wouldn’t it be the same with games?

I loved Everquest for years but why in the world would I want to be entertained by only that one game forever? So I came to GW2 and its a great game, but so are a lot of others. Variety! (And plenty of out of game, real life stuff in between or I’d be nuts by now…probably am anyway)

This question really doesn’t have a right answer. It almost feels like people are saying the people who answer are wrong, but its really a matter of opinion isn’t it?

I love Guild Wars 2 but happen to prefer Everquest, Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, Rift, Vanguard, DC Universe Online (which, granted is more brawler than rpg but has some really fun rpg elements to it).

That said, just because I prefer those others most of the time doesn’t mean I won’t play this one. Its f2p. You lose nothing by not logging in for a week…

Something about Necromancers' Warhorn...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

My Necromancer summons a void inside the warhorn, creating a gate into the Locust realm. Then he uses sound magic to mess with their senses and make the enemy look like corn to lure them out and into our world to feast. Unfortunately they can’t survive in our atmosphere very long and eventually disintegrate.

I found this hysterical for some reason. Still giggling

Double tap dodging?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ageia.5843

Ageia.5843

I use double tap. It seems more intuitive for me because I use my mouse to move and to turn. I can then use my left hand to hit the keybinds on the keyboard that I need while moving. Maybe it doesn’t work well for others, but for me its the most handy to be able to keep moving while I fight.
I can’t say it ever really causes me unintentional issues with double tapping.

Do any of you ever buy black lion keys?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ageia.5843

Ageia.5843

They should set the price for keys to 10 gems each, that would satisfy everyone. But at the same time, the rewards in the chests would still be the same, meaning less price on keys = not so rewarding items but still acceptable for the price. And then add some real nice items in the shop more expensive.

I completely agree. I’d pay for more different armor and weapon skins instead. I’m sure I’m not the only one either.

To be honest, I’d rather see new professions than races. The race is just a story and a different look while a profession is a story, a slightly different look and a new play style. I haven’t heard anything but hope they will add a profession before they add a race.

Original Poster, I understand your frustrations. That said, I am a casual player too and don’t find myself at a disadvantage from the hardcore players. If you get a good casual guild, I’ll bet you can even do dungeons sometimes too.

Mystic Coins...

Just keep them in your bank. GW2 is still very young and you never know what they will be used for in the future.

No sense selling them. You might change your mind some day about a Legendary.

But save them. You just never know.

I agree completely. I thought like the Original poster for a long time, then I realized, I’m sort of collecting random parts for the legendaries just by playing. If I get close without trying, why not give it a shot later in the future? I don’t have any plans to devote the time, effort and money to one now, but might someday and I’ll have the coins and parts I’ve already collected by accident to help.

Do any of you ever buy black lion keys?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ageia.5843

Ageia.5843

I’m curious.

As it stands it seems to me that the average stuff you get from a black lion chest is no where near worth the price of keys from the gem store.

The only real incentive is the chance of getting one of the permanent contracts or the endless tonic. However the chance of getting these seems so small that I’m not even tempted to dish out loads of gold for a gamble; I can’t help but feel I will be very disappointed.

At the moment the whole black lion key system is pretty unsatisfying. I know ArenaNet need to sell gems to keep the game running, but do many people actually spend them on keys? Would they not sell more gems if keys were at a reasonable price?

I’ve never bought any. It seems to me with the contents of the chest, plenty of the keys drop for my taste. There’s hardly ever anything useful in them anyway so I’ll save my hard earned dollars and golds for something better.

I got hundreds of chests sitting in my bank unopened because I wouldn’t pay for keys. They are far too expensive. If I do wan’t a booster I simply buy one directly so I’m guaranteed one I need but honestly I rather play a couple extra hours to have the same result you get from a booster than fork out lots of money for them and sometimes I’ll get one rarely from the game itself which is enough for me.

Exactly how I feel!

Cantha was my favorite GW1 region to work on. And I worked on every GW release. I know a lot of the dev team loved it and would love to revisit it. I kinda agree with critickitten about the negative aspect of tight corridors. Most of that came from hitting technological limits while trying to keep the epic quality of the concept art. I think we could do some really amazing things with those themes in our new engine. Certainly nothing is ruled out. I certainly encourage anyone to express your desire for a Cantha region in GW2 in a positive and friendly way. It could be years away, but it’s worth asking for.

This would be great! I love that GW and GW2 have made the human race an interesting race to play. Every other mmo I’ve played, they are boring because there’s just no interesting stories and cultures represented for them. As an American, I always feel cheated when the only real representation for humans is typical American culture. I’d love to see more of the Canthan region as well as more story from the other regions! GW gave such flavor to a race we all take for granted in the gamers world as boring and non-inventive. Please give us Cantha!

More often than not I get nothing at all from Vets and Champs, and typically whites and blues from Chests. Would love to feel like those more ‘epic’ battles were worth while. Right now, I skip them unless its a dynamic event or someone is fighting and needs help.

I agree with this. Its an mmo. There’s no such thing as a “win” as the game is designed to go on infinitely. (Or at least til the game developers decide they don’t want to make it anymore.) So I figure if I’m having fun, I win.

I have to agree with the OP. Logically, if it really was ‘player dependent’, an increase in players converting gems into gold should lower the over all cost of converting gold into gems and visa versa. Instead, conversion both directions has gone up drastically in the last two months. When I first began playing, you could convert 1g into 300+ gems and 100gems into 10-15gold. Now 1 gold will not even get you 50 gems and 50 gems will not net you any conversion. At least, when I checked yesterday that’s how it was.

Feels like a market manipulation to me…

Ageia.5843

When entering the Black Citadel for the first time, I became quite curious about the race. Their city looks like a gigantic, crashed space craft and it got me wondering if they were ‘created’ on Tyria or if they came from some other place. Of course, this lead me on an internet hunt which only told me that they were here before humans but possibly not before Jotun and Norn, Titans, Seers, Mursaat, etc.

So I guess my question is, did they crash land on Tyria? Probably a dumb question, but the Ship-like home of the Black Citadel really has me wondering from where they hail? Who created them? Why do they look like cat-bulls and how in the world did their mother’s give birth if they are a cross breed of cats and bovine?

So, that was a lot of questions and if the info is here in the forum or in GW in general, please let me know because my searching didn’t uncover it. Anyone happen to know anything about their origins or where I can read more about them? All I’m really finding is history of Tyria, but in general not for the races.

once again, you want the reward without the work

For me its not about not wanting to ‘work’ as you say. Its about not wanting to buy my way into them. So far, Anet only seems to reward players who buy gold or know how to exploit the system to amass a fortune. That makes me sad. I wouldn’t mind having to run the fractals if it wasn’t also going to cost me 100’s of golds to get them.

Your gaming background? Love/hate GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ageia.5843

Ageia.5843

My background:
I’ve played quite a few mmo’s. EverQuest, EQ2, WoW, LoTRO, Vanguard, DAoC, Aion, Rift, and probably a few others. Several of the free to plays like both Maple and Asda Story. The longest one I played though was EQ2 followed by WoW. I started playing EQ2 six months after launch and played for too many years. I played WoW from vanilla until just before Pandaria launched. I didn’t quit because of the pandas, I quit because it seems every expansion is the same exact content with a different look and a few new monster skins thrown in. Its always been (and probably always will be): Grind dungeon, get gear, grind dungeon, get better gear, grind raids get gear, lather, rinse repeat. It just got old.

Do I love or hate GW2?
I’ve been playing for nearly two months now and have enjoyed every minute. I was a little disappointed in the legendary grind. The fact that its all about how much gold you can amass makes me sad. I’ve always felt things like that mean more when you’ve ‘worked’ for them and buying my way into a legendary seems so wrong to me. That said, I figured it up and I’ll never have the amount of money required to make a legendary anyway so that point is mute.
I was hoping when the ascended came out it would be basically an aesthetic change or it would depend on questing or finding the items instead of being another money grind. It makes me really sad to see that it is all about the money. Guess Anet has decided to cater to the player who has hundreds of golds. Ah well. I’ll stick with my exotic weapons and gears and have fun anyway.
Some disappointments but over-all, I love the game.

Some of those mechanics are reused in various games because they work.

Most of those games using those mechanics have lost huge amounts of players, not to mention those that simply failed. Other than WoW, very few games using that model have been successful.

I agree with you to an extent. It is an old and boring mechanic, but its still a working mechanic. EverQuest, EQ2, LoTRO, FFO, WoW and quite a few others were quite successful lasting 6+ years each. I’d personally call any game that lasts 6+ years in this ever-changing and evolving world of gaming a success.

But I do agree I’d love to see Anet possibly give equal stats to the Ascended stuff as a normal exotic. I think too often companies think they need to add new stats when all a player really wants is something that says “I did this content” New, unique skins on exotic quality gear would achieve the desired effect without upsetting the players not interested in a grind.

I love this game and have enjoyed each and every zone in it… until I got to the Orr zones. They are dark, depressing and way too crowded with monsters to enjoy the zone. I don’t know if it was a ‘thrown together to get the game out’ situation or just that the people who designed the zone were maybe in a dark mood when they did it, but it doesn’t feel like its consistent with the vibrancy and interest of the rest of the game to me.

2. People obviously wanted to try something different or they would have stuck with GW1 instead of buying GW2 and trying it out.

And if people wanted a gear treadmill, endless grind and etc etc, they would have stuck with WoW or any WoW clone instead of buying GW2 and trying it out.

ArenaNet specifically said Guild Wars 2 was a game for people who didn’t like the outdated mechanics from other MMOs. Now they are adding some of those mechanics in the game. It’s not hard to understand why so many people are upset.

Sorry, but I really just don’t see how adding some new content and a few nice pieces of gear for people who WANT to work towards it is turning the game into a cookie cutter version of WoW… I know those aren’t your words for it… they were mine.

Something being an old idea doesn’t automatically make it outdated. Some of those mechanics are reused in various games because they work. Maybe not you, and obviously not some other people in the forum, but many players WANT something new to work towards.

That said, I’d be every bit as satisfied if they equalized the stats with the current exotics and just gave them different skins. Because to be honest, I notice very little difference in game play regardless if my character is wearing crappy greens or pretty gold exotics.

I tend to agree with Selon on this one. Here’s why:

1. This is not GW1.
2. People obviously wanted to try something different or they would have stuck with GW1 instead of buying GW2 and trying it out.
3. How the heck is a few extra stats a game breaker? In a game where you can take an ungeared level 8 character into WvW and still do quite well, gear should not ever be an issue. Its a luxury item.
4. There will always be complaints for or against because a company can’t please everyone.

I understand frustration, but I guess my issue isn’t with frustrated players voicing their opinions, its with the selfish people who thing their view is the only view and say things like “OMG Anet! I can’t believe you changed things. I quit because now this game sucks! Why isn’t it like GW1???”

Its not like GW1 because it ISN"T GW1.
