How you prevent players from buying gold to goldsellers ?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

SO you say that people who have legendaries didnt buy gold from goldsellers or exploit? I dont believe that for one sec. And from what I have seen the mystic forge removes a ton of gold and items from the economy every sec of every day. I am not privy to your information mind you.
I am curious tho

1.) What exploit? Throwing the word “exploit” around is like how ancient civilizations explained simple things by calling them “magic”. Sun rises? Magic. Fire caused from sparks? Magic. People have legendary weapons? Exploit.

2.) I’m going for a Legendary myself and I’ve talked with a number of people who have Legendaries. It seems most of them made loads of money early in the game by farming certain materials people didn’t know how to get, or by buying many items early that rose exponentially in price.

Stat Reset Item

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

It’s apparently one of the new items in the Black Lion Trading Post.

http://www.gw2db.com/items/21484-stat-reset

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/74262-new-items-on-the-trading-post/

Anyone know what this may be/can any developer clarify this for us?

It specifically says attributes, not traits. In alpha development (possibly closed beta?) you were able to set your own attributes instead of the current system where they are a set 916 at lv 80 with your traits adding to them. In the old system, this item would make perfect sense.

However, in the current system I don’t see how it could work.

Commander Status

in WvW

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

The overwhelming majority of Commanders exist for their guilds. Nearly every suggestion related to Commanders does not acknowledge this.

Our guild has a number of Commanders that we use for individual squad chats, designating leaders, and for a clear icon on the map. We also use them interchangeably with other guilds.

We don’t have them as a prestige item.

Changing them to an elected position basically destroys the current use of them. This makes it into a popularity contest and makes guild Commanders essentially impossible. This forces the Commander icon into being a prestige item. The changes suggested above basically attempts to make Commander icons a major focus in WvW instead of just a useful tool.

The current implementation is simple and works. No need to fix what isn’t broken.

Just have their use limited to OUTSIDE the keeps and castles. It’s a cheeseball move to have to scan your entire keep just because there could be one mesmer /sleeping on the floor or in some wall structure.

Say what you want it’s cheese.

What if you lose your keep because 20 people stacked in one place instead of just 1 Mesmer? You have the same exact chance of noticing them.

From your perspective, both scenarios would be 100% the same. It would take the exact same amount of effort to locate those 20.

Arguing that it’s too much work to find one Mesmer is essentially arguing that it’s too much work to find 20 people standing in one place, that even making portals work outside of keeps wouldn’t prevent.

Hammers look terrible, Please fix

in Guardian

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

Depending on your race, it will vary due to the scaling.

As a Human, I find most of the Hammers to be completely unrealistic AND unappealing.

The only 3 Hammer skins I’ve liked are:

1.) Orrian Traveler’s. It’s the tallest Hammer in the game. The ratio of the head size to the length of the handle is actually visually appealing. It’s not just a sledgehammer with a head the size of my torso.

2.) Seraph Hammer. It’s realistic and also has a nice head size to lenge of handle ratio. It’s not that tall, but the size of the head actually matches the length of the handle.

3.) The Juggernaut. No explanation needed.

Edit: I now use The Punisher, so make that 4.

How is letting an enemy force take your locations then farm captures more fun?

You can’t have fun unless both forces are putting up a fight. The winning server backing off doesn’t make it more fun for anyone.

Plus, this is also asking people to purposefully do worse so that another server can gain control of a keep without earning it.

Sea of Sorrows--Henge of Denravi--Isle of Janthir--Update

Alarox.4590

Looks like an exciting tight match.

The balancing of servers is working amazingly.

HoD and IoJ are moving down (IoJ might be stable), SoS is moving up.

Makes sense actually. The ranking system is based on trends over time. When you start winning your ranking score goes up. When you lose, you get passed by those who won because their ranking score is higher.

The more you lose/win and the extent to which you lose/win accurately measures how far you go down/up in ranks.

The current t1 servers replaced IoJ and HoD while SoS is moving up, this week’s match is a necessary evil.

Get over the Mesmer Portal Clipping

in WvW

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

they already said it’s not working as intended…a fix is coming.

the mesmer portal was only meant to transfer the players party or up to 5 players, it was never meant to transfer an entire zerg of 40+ including seige.

it works and it should stay but not in the form it has, every spell or ability should have it’s limits the mesmer portal is no different.

it should always be allowed to be used in the fashion it is used now just not for the same number of players.

Three options:

1.) You work for ArenaNet, and therefore can say this.

2.) You saw an ArenaNet employee say this, in which case you need evidence.

3.) You have no evidence.

Well the good thing about being in 3rd is we get to decide who comes in first and seeing as how Dragon and CD are pretty much working as a team, one of them is gonna get the shaft when we pick who gets to win. So far I’m thinking we should let Dragon win since CD doesn’t seem at all concerned with their lead and is focusing us hardcore. Punish CD for ignoring Dragon and ensure they never make it to 1st.

Yeah, because everyone on Crystal Desert and Dragonbrand had meetings the previous week talking about how we’re going to ignore each other and kill Tarnished Coast, and now we’re all telling our PuGs to ignore each respective server. Not only is it completely logical to double team the weaker server when last time we fought we almost tied, but it’s also obviously realistic to be able to coordinate everyone on both servers.

Simple Mesmer Portal Fix

in WvW

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

1.) A limit on the number of enemies you can hit, is a completely different thing than a limit on how many people a Mesmer portal affects. The cap isn’t on your offensive skill for the sake of putting an arbitrary cap on it. The cap is there to make sure AoE stacking doesn’t become insanely overpowered.

2.) It doesn’t fix the rendering issues. It’s not about people standing near each other VS 20 feet away, it’s about the hardware lacking the capacity to show all of those people quickly enough.

Mesmer Portal Cap

I was there when we did this. All we did was have a Mesmer hide in a corner when we lost the tower, and ten minutes later we came back, killed a group of about 25 players, and our Mesmer jumped down and gave us the portal.

Not really an exploit. All you had to do was look around the tower instead of running off as soon as you took it.

Claiming that we glitched through walls is simply BS. It’s a pretty simple tactic: Mesmer hides, then gives portal.

Wave of Wrath: It’s actually a great skill. It hits fast in a 600 range with a WIDE arc. At lv 80 with my gear, it’s hitting 1000-1200 damage per crit constantly to 5 enemies.

In PvE/WvW I find it to be very useful. That being said, I would much prefer this skill to be thinner and at a 900 range. It would make it overall more useful, effective, and fun to use.

Orb of Light: Hits pretty hard actually. The only issue is that it’s annoying to use and misses easily. The only time I find the detonate to be useful is when I need to double tap it for health or when it’s near the end of a fight and I was an AoE burst. When not in those situations, it’s frustrating because I have to watch the orb slowly float away and fade until I can use it again.

Symbol of Swiftness: Awesome.

Empowering Might: Let me move and maybe.

Line of Warding: Incredibly useful skill unless you’re fighting an enemy with Defiant/Stability. Other than that, it is useful in every scenario.

Renewed Focus vs Endure Pain

in Guardian

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

Just to clarify, I like Renewed Focus. But that doesn’t mean I can’t think it has some serious issues.

Yes, I recognize the fact that if you Virtue spam you can deal significant support if you are traited, but think about what that really means.

It means that to have the supportive element, you have to spam virtues and put them all on long cooldowns. If you want significant support, you need to trait for them. Even then, you either put yourself in danger to deal this support, or you make yourself useless for a period of time (like I said in the OP, 3s minimum, or even more if you move out of harm’s way first).

When comparing Renewed Focus and Endure Pain, many are forgetting that one is an ELITE skill, while another is a UTILITY skill. Even if Rewewed Focus did the same exact thing as Endure Pain, it would be underpowered simply because it takes up an Elite Skill slot.

Is the trait line being reconsidered for a rework?

in Guardian

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

I disagree for the most part, however Zeal seems completely messed up and some traits are a bit random.

Really, you just have to identify which traits are worth your while in each line and make a decision. The Guardian traits have a bit of a learning curve, but you’re asking for them to be simplified for convenience rather than for balance.

For me, I go 0/20/10/30/10.

20 points in Radiance for two Signet traits and 200 Precision; 10 points in Valor for 5% toughness being added to Precision and for the +10% critical damage; 30 points in Honor for increased Symbol duration/size and 2h Mastery for my hammer, with +300 Vitality to make up for my offensive based build; 10 points into Virtues to get the additonal boons from Virtue activation and to get 25% longer Retaliation.

Renewed Focus vs Endure Pain

in Guardian

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

It seems you’re trying to use unrelated aspects of each Profession to justify Endure Pain’s superiority to Renewed Focus.

What does healing, buffing, debuffing, snaring, blinding, rooting, throwing up bubbles, bubble knockbacks, focus skills, shield skills, or shouts have to do with Endure Pain and Renewed Focus?

This is not a discussion on the overall strengths and weaknesses, functions and issues of each Profession, it’s about the fact that one of our Elite Skills is clearly inferior to a Utility Skill.

I fail to see why making our ELITE SKILL a stun breaker or allow movement is wrong to ask for, when a UTILITY SKILL can do both with the same cooldown for an even longer longer duration.

Less Battlefield, more RvR

in WvW

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

1.) If you have every single person on one map, it’s going to be a massive mess. Splitting the maps automatically does what you normally would have to do in a giant map: split your forces and assign different leaders. Splitting the maps does both automatically. It also means the chat system is actually usable and isn’t a colossal spam fest.

I agree it would be nice to have one huge battlefield, but from a practical standpoint this is superior. However, there is normally 2 fronts in each battle, and you have smaller groups going out, so it does still maintain that feeling you’re talking about.

2.) This depends on the map and situation. In some cases you do have plenty of warning, in others you don’t. However, defenders normally have the advantage in almost every way. This gives the attackers one advantage: initiative. If you want to know the enemy’s movement, you have to make informed assumptions or have people scout.

3.) I agree this could be improved.

4.) If you don’t defend a keep, it should fall relatively quickly. That being said, most matches thus far have been VERY short. In the last week-long match, things changed. Most structures had the time taken to be built up and fortified, essentially doubling the time it takes to sieze them.

The fundamental aspect of defense in Guild Wars 2 is building it up, and actually having players there to defend. It seems your complaint is that the basic defenses are too low, but Guild Wars 2 is designed that way on purpose. The basic defenses are relatively low, but when you have fortification and player defense they can last for hours, and hours.

Have you all forgotten why you have to pay cash for broken armor? It’s a gold sink and an attrition mechanic.

Being able to teleport just by temporarily avoiding the enemy (when you would likely still die) is basically negating the intended attrition mechanic.

Plus, the risk vs reward is eliminated in many cases.

For example: You push hard north to take a tower, the enemy flanks your southern tower. Instead of them being able to take advantage of your movement and having your actions actually have a consequence, you can instantly waypoint back to your spawn and get to the tower in a minute.

in WvW

Posted by: Alarox.4590

believe it or not, Arena net wants to keep the focus on things that matter in WvW.

currently, the reward for escorting and defending yaks is what they give you…. supply!!!!

and the reward for killing yaks,,,,,starving them of supply!

if you feel like you need rewards back just to help your team win, then you dont need to be in WvW because you are probably one of those worthless dolyak farmers that took WvW spots, caused huge problems in the rankings because of queues being taken by PvE farmers.

Arena net took away the reward because it was easily the biggest problem at the time, people would gather in groups of 40 or so just to farm dolyak exp in safe areas, ignoring the actual game around them. it was affecting the gameplay of others, so it was changed.

and i love it how it is, no reward except the WvW reward of supply or lack of supply. the way it should be

When commanders are good, it’s great. When they suck, it’s worse than horrible. Because then you have a large group of people following someone who has no idea what to do, in which case the people who actually DO know what to do are basically ignored.

Today I saw a commander who didn’t say a word to anyone, and did horribly stupid things. The people who were new to WvW simply followed him around.

There was a time when we could flank the enemy siege since we happened to be in the perfect spot. If we destroyed their siege, we would have allowed the rest of our force to push forward, meaning we would outnumber the enemy 2-1. Instead, he leads these people into the enemy zerg and they all die, instead of just destroying their seige and allowing us to win.

Renewed Focus vs Endure Pain

in Guardian

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

First off, they both have 90s cooldowns and grant immunity from enemy attacks, while still taking damage from conditions. Here are the advantages of both side by side:

Endure Pain:
-Takes up a Utility slot rather than an Elite slot.
-Allows movement
-Allows skill usage
-Breaks stun
-Lasts 5 seconds (rather than 3)

Renewed Focus:
-Recharges Virtues.

I myself use Virtues and have them traited for Might/Regeneration/Protection, and I use this elite in most game modes. However, I fail to see how Renewed Focus is superior to, let alone equal to Endure Pain.

In many cases, using Renewed Focus is actually more dangerous than not using it. If you’re low on health, you don’t want to use this skill because it makes you a sitting duck. Endure Pain however, is flat out superior to Renewed Focus in every way except for the Virtue recharge, and is basically a “get out of jail free” card, while Renewed Focus is “put yourself into a metal box on train tracks 3s before the train gets there” card.

I understand that Renewed Focus partially meant to be a supportive skill due to Resolve/Courage, but there are two issues with this. First, the supportive nature of this skill depends on your instant use of Courage and Resolve, putting them back onto long cooldowns. Secondly, the supportive nature of this skill depends on you doing nothing for 3s in the middle of battle while standing in a dangerous spot. Unless you take time to get to a safe place, in which case you’ve just been useless for 6+ seconds rather than just 3.

Guardian with longbow

in Guardian

Posted by: Alarox.4590

Alarox.4590

Just want to say:

The Staff is “okay” for ranged. Symbol with 50% uptime when fully traited (6s duration) and a ‘2’ that hits for solid damage with a relatively short time between fires. The issue is that Wave of Wrath is 600 range and can’t even traverse the Y-axis, and the ‘2’ skills moves far too slow.

The Scepter can be good for ranged, but only in PvE or against swarms of enemies. Smite does not pulse, which makes it rather pathetic in many cases, against single targets and multiple. Orb of Wrath is simply too slow for any form of PvP, and even struggles in WvW.

Changes to our current weapons can solve the current issues and should be looked into first. But, the idea of a Longbow is still interesting and workable.

Your problem is that you’re expecting to tank damage. On another forum I just posted this:

“I play offensively but still have about 100% Protection duration. Even so, it doesn’t let me “tank”, it just means I can afford to make slightly more mistakes without death.

Same goes for Toughness or Vitality, it doesn’t let you stand there, hold aggro, and literately “tank” the damage, it just allows you to take more attacks and damage than you normally would.

When looking for someone for a group, the last thing I want to find is someone who tells me they’re built to tank. All that tells me is that they’re less likely to avoid damage when they should and that will deal relatively low damage/support.

If you’re talking about a “survival” build rather than a “tank” build, then the above is perfectly suited. But in any tanking style from any game, you can’t build to be an effective tank here. "

Why the hammer shouldnt be faster

Some damage numbers:

Mighty Blow: 647/4 = 161.75 DPS
Whirling Wrath: 1251/8 = 156.375 DPS

Hammer ‘1’: (296+333+370+740)*.75 = 1304.25 for 2.1s
Greatsword ‘1’: (296+296+443) = 1035 for 2.1s

The standard ‘1’ attack is .7s, while Symbol of Protection is 1.4s, making the Hammer chain .7s longer than the Greatsword (why I multiplied by .75 for a comparison)

HOW TO IMPROVE THE HAMMER CHAIN:

Currently, (assuming you have two-handed mastery) you get a full ‘1’ chain, then a Mighty Blow right after the first ‘1’ of your next chain.

If you change the ‘1’ chain to 2.1 seconds (the standard chain duration), then the traited duration of Symbol of Protection will extend to 3s, 150% that of the chain itself, making the Hammer overpowered with traits. Without the extended trait, you would already have 100% duration of Symbol of Protection as well. Yes you would basically be able to get in 2 chains before Mighty Blow cools down, but the chain would end up broken.

If you change the ‘1’ chain to 2.45 seconds (a slight decrease in length), then it’s in the same boat as the above except worse. For one, you wouldn’t have 100% duration on Protection without the trait, and with the trait it would become overpowered. You don’t get two full ‘1’ chains in before Mighty Blow cools down. In fact, you have to wait .7s after Mighty Blow is off cooldown to be able to make a combo.

To fix either of the above changes to the ‘1’ chain duration, you would have to either:

1.) Significantly reduce the effect of the Honor Trait that increases symbol duration (in the case of the 2.1s change, you would have to make the trait NOT affect the Hammer).

2.) Significantly reduce the normal duration of Symbol of Protection. In the case of the 2.1s chain, that would be reducing the Symbol duration to just 1s.

Conclusion:

Basically, if you want to change the ‘1’ chain while keeping the weapon intact, you would have to reduce the ‘1’ chain to 2.1s, change the Symbol of Protection to a base 1s duration, and then scale the damage of the Symbol down to match it’s current 1304DPS.

I might be in favor of that, but I would have to play with it first.

Ring of Warding and Line of Warding work on friendly NPCs with a set movement path, like the wandering NPCs in cities.

Line of Warding is affected by Symbol traits, such as extended duration.
