Nerf blurr, not aclarity!

i didn’t know they updated precog and distortion, i’ve been out for a bit. i stand by my belief that aclarity shouldn’t be nerfed due to pve utility though

for clarity, when i said blurr, i meant the entire corpus of mainstream mesmer evasion: sword 2, distortion, well of precognition, shield 4. i think these should prevent point capture contribution or something. if they nerf aclarity, they should at least make it easier to share with other teammates, because at the moment it is just a selfish way to reduce CD on utilities and elite skills

[Suggestions] Future Elite Specializations

Mesmer ideas:

1. The Dreamweaver: specializes in invisibility and soft CC, as well as confusion damage.

2. The Nullifier: specializes in removing boons and conditions on the battlefield, and cancelling AOE effects like wells, traps, or anything else “magical”

for godsakes, why is aclarity getting shafted and not blurr? now mesmers will be still overpowered in pvp and be able to do even less in pve

i think it’s a little steep for max armor. in GW1 the policy was reward max armor early on so that content was equalized, which i really thought set it apart from other mmos.

Best DPS besides Elementalist?

Alex Shatter.7956

mesmer is a low DPS class (decent with full phantasms doing work) but can make it up with extreme utility and is easily the best tank in the game.

Since when did mesmers have low DPS and high tanking ability? since when was HoT elementalist good at anything other than aura spam? did I walk into a parallel universe?

Mesmer always have one of the lowest dps in PVE, on par with Guardian.
It’s fact.

High burst =/= high dps. It’s totally different thing.

Mesmer sword/greatsword with perma quickness and aclarity has higher DPS than most other professions, regardless of phantasms. they hit for 2000 every half second, sustained. I’ve been playing GW since 2008 and I have a level 80 mesmer, engineer, necromancer, and elementalist. If i had to rate their DPS it would be engineer > mesmer > necromancer >> elementalist. also, guardian has MASSIVE dps from what I understand with the bows

Try other classes. Comparatively this damage is still lower than other classes.

Tesmpest/ Herald / Warrior/condition engi still deal way more dps than that.

People use certain classes in raid for a reason. They’re not idiots.
If they know Phatasm is going to outdamage Herald/ War/ Engi, they’d use it.
But people only ask Chrono for high quickness up-time and alacrity. At least Mesmer is one of the best support classes in game right now thanks to these unique buffs.

forgetting about the mesmer, why would anyone take elementalist over engineer or reaper or warrior? elementalist and thief are bottom tier atm, idk why everyone on this forum is lauding them. i dont have a thief but my ele can’t do kitten ever since HoT came out

Please buff Rev and DH

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Alex Shatter.7956

Ideas to buff Rev:

1. more blocks.
2. Unrelenting Assault cannot hit people in stealth and that leaves the profession weak against pretty much everyone.
3. Reduce recharge on Facet of Light and Unrelenting assault
4. Make the mallyx resistance from 2 seconds to 10 seconds on switching

Ideas to buff DH:

1. traps dont do enough damage. make them poison as well as burn
2. True shot has too long of a recharge. cut 4 seconds to 2 seconds
3. increase the duration of dragons maw from 6 seconds to 25 seconds

Mass invisibility seems outdated

in Mesmer

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

i kinda feel like mass invisibility was created at the start of guild wars to be a unique, cool thing to be used in dungeons, etc, but now with all the stealth and stuff floating around, it isn’t really unique or interesting anymore. stealth gyro esp makes it look kinda awkward or old fashioned.

proposed updates:

-lengthen the time

OR

-ignore reveal

AND

cut down on that cast time. instantaneous would be really fun and not that OP

Tempest replacement idea: The Prodigy

in Elementalist

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

Hey guys:

I’d like to propose a simple fix to Tempest to make elementalists unique again: The Prodigy.

The concept is simple: Prodigies lose the ability to switch attunements in combat, but gain the ability to weapon swap.

The Prodigy would play a lot more like the GW1 elementalist: being able to choose between being a fire mage, water mage, air mage, or earth mage.

The Prodigy trait line would be specific to whatever attunement you are in when it is assigned. Water Mages would be excellent healers, fire mages would have prodigal DPS and air mages would have traits that gave them more evasion, or precision.

Tell me what your thoughts are

Separate PVP queues for elite spec play

in PvP

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

Could we make a separate queue for “standard” sPVP and “elite” sPVP, one where you can’t use elite specializations ad one where you can?

I think it’s rather immature that we are all expected to go guns blazing into conquest where everyone has the keys to the kingdom in terms of firepower. any body can pick up the game and charge in as a chronomancer or reaper. It’s like playing pokemon with an Action Replay and using teams of only deoxys and arceus.

elite specs are great in pve where you have to earn them, and they have uses in specific things like raids, but giving unlimited access in sPvP takes the fun out of it and makes most other playstyles obsolete.

Making an “elite” queue that only unlocks once you have the elite specialization would be good flow control. experienced players could duke it out while new players could learn the basics in standard spvp. or, if experienced players wanted to play standard they could of course enjoy basic gameplay without all the flashiness.

PvP Magic Find Rebalance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

I think it’s a tad silly that I can make a level 2 necromancer, doink around on conquest for a weekend, and get an ascended chest, a set of dungeon armor, 20 tomes of knowledge and 15 transmutation charges, as well as many ectos from rares, whereas my level 80 can do dungeons all week and only get a bunch of masterwork hats and some spoons.

Is it too much to ask to make high level dungeon chests scale with magic find and PvP rewards to scale with rank?

Chromomancer Interrupts

in Mesmer

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

Also with the grandmaster that gives quickness on shatter (screw chronophantasma), and signet of illusions, one could chain the AoE pull skill from focus, and AoE pull from gravity well a total of 6 times with lightning speed. You could throw a team off point 6 times with perma-quickness. Six interrupts that remove people from a point. Six.

Chromomancer Interrupts

in Mesmer

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

I think chronomancer finally gives enough wiggle room for a gw2 mesmer interrupt set. In addition to access to things like quickness, which makes interrupting 11 times easier, we also get two aoe interrupts: the shield thing and gravity well.

Coupled with aclarity and continuum shift giving you fabulous manipulation of your recharge times, i am seeing a very annoying chaotic interruption condition damage build on the horizon. The slow interrupt trait looks K but i think id still rather take the clone-refunding skill and just live with chaotic interruption.

Rabid, Carrion or Settlers

Alex Shatter.7956

What do you guys run for condition (shatter)? I’m crafting ascended gear and not sure what to use.

Rabid has the advantage of toughness, which syncs better with healing and improves clone survivability. Precision is supposedly more useful than power.

Carrion gives shatters that extra damage boosts and will probably sync well with Chronomancer wells. Vitality defends against incoming condition damage.

Settlers is for full cancer set, but with PU getting a nerf I don’t see mesmer tanks getting any stronger with HoT.

Behind-the-scenes dueling fight clubs

in PvP

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

There’s this crazy fight club scene in the game browser mode for dueling. I’ve seen entire guilds based off of 1 v. 1 dueling. People create private arenas and just hang out and duel, it’s really chill and everyone’s welcome.

It like, has it’s own etiquette and everything. like, no stomping, no moa bird, etc.

It’s also great practice. I just wish anet would kind of formalize it a little (As in, make it so spectators can watch without autoattacks contaminating matches, have health regen after fights, etc. Culture is there, just needs some sprucing up in the maps)

I hope to see more people in it I’ve met some great players there already. And Anet, it would be a really cool feature in the pvp menu

Can't figure out power dps

in Mesmer

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

Longtime mesmer player here, since Gw1. I can’t seem to figure out all of this sword/greatsword/pistol hype. (In PvP of course, PvE is a joke)

I tend to do well for myself in PvP (usually top player in unranked, 50% top player in ranked), but i don’t use PU or any of that DPS. I use staff scepter/torch with illusion, inspiration and dueling. Rabid amulet, undead runes, sigils of earth and energy. Signet of inspiration, illusions; null field. Im fond of dancing around and applying conditions while being hard to take down. The only class i have trouble with is necromancers. I eat DPS mesmers and thieves for breakfast.

Sometimes i feel like warrior ADHD types have crept over into the mesmer zone and taken over the mesmer meta with flashy, spammy DPS. Either that, or i wasnt born with the reflexes to use a shatter build. Anyone else in this situation?

I look forward to chronomancer when we can finally have some AoE

Should gem store skins be free to apply?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Alex Shatter.7956

Hey everyone,

It makes sense that my heritage gear and zenith gear are free-to-apply skins. In addition to hellfire and pinnacle skins, they’re essentially event gear acquired by special methods that reward players for commitment to the game, either by achievements or playing Guild Wars 1.

I was wondering, then, why my Black Wings and Ringmaster hat were not free to apply skins. Seeing as they’re gem store skins, I thought that they, too, would qualify as specially obtained gear.

Cheers,

An otherwise satisfied player

Elementalist Weapon Swap- Here me out

in Elementalist

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

There’s a very good argument as to why elementalists do not get the weapon swap. Yes, 4 elements vs 2 weapons = elementalists already have twice as much in-combat variety.

However, this is facetious.

Because of the 3 choice trait system, elementalists can only really choose up to 3 elements to swap from in combat, bringing the amount of skill sets down to 50% of a non-elementalist player. In addition, many players choose to focus in “Arcane”, bringing the amount of skill-swaps-in-combat down to 2 different sets, which is the same as every other class.

In addition, though the different elements (air, fire, earth, water) have different skills, they all rhyme with each other based on what weapon you are holding. For instance, all of the elemental dagger skills focus on close combat with some condition damage. The staff is long range AoE.

So whereas a mesmer or something can choose two weapons that say “hey, ill swap between a sword and a staff because one is close range one is long range”, elementalists have no versatility. They are either all close range-single target or all long range, making them very predictable.

I think that keeping them from weapon swaps makes them very predictable and inflexible, contrary to the advertisement of the elementalist as the “jack of all trades”. I think this is why my elementalist will never shine the same way that my other characters will.

Canthan Erasure

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Alex Shatter.7956

Yeah… a total erasing. that’s why we have a major character who is Canthan as part of one of the major adventuring teams ATM.

GW can include Cantha as a sub-lore without adding “Asian themed content”. I mean a removal of the continent and characters themselves, which they have already casually begun.

Canthan Erasure

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

I’m beginning to doubt that we will ever get to explore Cantha again.

I understand that there are reasons for Arenanet’s silence on this issue, but is anyone with a foot in the development team comfortable discussing it? Is NCSoft so intent on removing any Asian themed content from Guild Wars that we will slowly see the complete erasure of the Canthan continent and lore, because it is considered a “big mistake”, starting with the Canthan Quarter in Lions Arch?

As a Guild Wars player for the past 7 years, this wounds me. The diversity and culture of the continent, in conjunction with the African themed Elona and the Vaabi, added so much to the gameplay and community, and would truly be a loss worth mourning. If there is a way to adapt Cantha and Elona to an increasingly sensitive definition of “politically correct”, I believe those adaptations would be preferable under any circumstances to sinking the entire ship.

I hope these comments will not be brushed off as noisy, unfocused criticism and anxiety. I’m aware many other players have made similar comments.

Regards,

Alex
