Lyssa. Stealing, stealth, deception, wealth / lavishness and chaos fall neatly under her umbrella. She is also a patron of society’s underclass and the ugly, if you read her lore. Grenth seems like a better fit for assassins, but thief has expanded on that since the gw1 profession

Portalling between points should not even be a thing you can do.

It stuns me as to why anet still hasn’t just removed Moa and portals.

stunned? is mesmer even relevant anymore? they cut alacrity in half, removed well of precognition, cut moa 40%, got rid of the destroyer amulet, got rid of PU, disabled quickness and slow from affecting rez stomp, and a lot of other minor nerfs over the HoT seasons. Every time mesmer sticks it’s head over the wall, the balance team has had no hesitation bopping it back down with a hammer. Last I heard only EU was running mesmer, and for stubbornness at that

A consistent PVE main profession?

Alex Shatter.7956

Revenant and elementalist are the most universally viable, imo. Necromancer and druid would be the runner ups, as they are the strongest defensively, but i think they are terribly boring. you can get a lot of mileage on a mesmer too if you’re really into it. the only ones i would avoid are engineer and thief. guardian / warrior tend to be pvp professions, as their dps and support is outclassed in higher end game modes, but they are still fine for PvE: General.

People want the rewards and would rather play safe than practice something hard and get better. I personality enjoy fighting for my life in a sense on zerk and feel a sense of pride coming out un-touched.

Saying this, there is alot more to nerco than what people pick up and use just to get the T4 rewards

the after-patch increase in AR availability (through money rather than fractal experience) probably thrust a lot of new players into t4s who don’t know how to hang

Friends- I understand that necromancer has “longevity” and that conditions are good in high toughness environments- but it is ridiculous that people assume a full team of necromancers is “optimal”. I was kicked from a party because the other 4 players decided removing a chronomancer for a 5th necro was the “elite” and “meta”

No use getting upset over stupid, you can’t beat it.

but can it be nipped in the bud? i wouldnt have taken the time to write a post about it if i didnt see it every day in the t4 lfg /sigh

Actually ranged condi dmg is the best way to handle mai trin for many pugs since many can’t melee her. They spend most of their time kiting using ranged weapons while running power builds which makes their dps way lower than a condi necro for most classes.

if you get to the level 100 fractal, i expect you to be able to melee her efficiently and not kite the cannons

And there’s your problem, your expectations don’t match the reality of many pugs. They don’t seek efficiency but efficacy, and when it comes to that, necro is god tier in fractals.

but other professions have the same longevity and damage. Druid and engineer match or surpass necromancers damage output and can either out-survive or peer necromancer. my point is that there are a growing number of teams of “full necromancer only”, which is completely ridiculous and based in opinion- there are far more optimal teams if you want to be “selective”

The necromancer DPS benchmark status is only there because of raids, and very specific boss fights. namely ones where it is easy to bounce epidemics off the main boss, and it is worth it to take the time to do so. In fractals, this is rarely the case.

And yet, I keep seeing parties forming in the lfg only looking for “condi reaper”. At times I join these, ankitten ever surprised at how garbled and slow the team moves through the fractal. I once did a level 100 Mai Tran where I was told to my face that ranged condition damage was the best way to handle it.

I enjoy necromancer as well, but I think there’s a lot of “lord of darkness bias” going on here and would really like it to stop so I can actually get things done

I liked the expansion packs in GW1 because they let you really focus on a whole different story… a lot of the criticism of HoT was that it wasn’t welcoming for new players in the slightest. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I’d like to see something similar to nightfall where the focus is intense story telling

The frustrating thing is pinpointing where they went wrong. The content in HoT wasn’t all that bad and definitely made up for the drought in terms of story / maps. The legendary weapon scandal, elite specs breaking pvp, and focus on raid content for 5% of the player base probably did most of the damage. but you would think, introducing raids and leagues would have at least leveled sales w/ pre-HoT

To be honest, the nerf and buff bat has been swinging so freely this year, I wouldn’t worry about end game potential. If epidemic is nerfed, reaper becomes useless. If alacrity is nerfed, mesmer is useless.

Damage and survivability, Necromancer wins out, but if you are a casual player, you probably won’t notice much difference between any of the professions. Choose which ever appeals to you more

2. Bank and Trading Post in the fractals lobby

Post Patch S4 Class Ranking

Alex Shatter.7956

OP i was gobsmacked when i saw you put warrior as B rank, and then i looked at your account name

I got my wings last season and havn’t bothered with S4 yet. Last season War was High B, Thats why I asked.

Also I don’t know what is S? Special?

Super or Special, whatever you feel like. It’ s usually used to rank things higher than A. And War has been S all season 3 and will be S all season 4 if Anet keeps on trolling pvp.

Lol thought its not higher than A, since its competing with other classes in A that bring much more the the table in terms of team support like Rev, Mes and even thief now with baseline venoms. Warrior brings nothing in terms of team support on their meta builds. So war is Low A if anything.

Wrong and wrong. S1 and S2 warrrior was completely useless, so they buffed it to death in S3, and pushed it into god tier, and refused to nerf it for S4. Also, warrior’s access to resistance, adrenal health, and stability means they don’t need support- they hard counter thieves and mesmers. the only thing they couldn’t kill reliably in S3 was elementalist / scrapper, and now that barrier is gone

Feedback Thread: Summer Update (26 July 2016)

Alex Shatter.7956

  • Amazing PvE balance changes. I like the idea of having damage more normalized in PvE, it was getting out of hand with tempests, regardless of how upset people seem in this moment. I can finally play my engineer, ranger, and mesmer in PvE without feeling totally useless. It got to the point where I would only play my elementalist. That being said, I think ranger and mesmer could use a little PvE damage bump up, they are as far behind in damage as tempest was ahead.
  • Not sure how PvP will turn out, I stopped playing ranked after I got enough tickets for the wings- but elementalist is probably a little too behind now that the heal bunker is nerfed, and warrrior’s 10% adrenal health might not be enough to make it not God mode.
  • I can finally use bloodstone dust for something Can the gliding bonuses hit open world outside of the Fen? Also, would love to see similar things for dragonstone ore and empyreal fragments
  • Only thing I don’t like: the amulet enrichment. I lost my 150 AR and it is very expensive to buy infusions to get it back. Can amulets have both an enrichment and a versatile infusion?

Mesmer viable as solo player?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

Mesmer’s burst is so high you won’t really notice the DPS difference in casual play. In situations like open world, where you have to apply your own vulnerability and boons, mesmer puts things down pretty quickly. The only times those “high DPS” professions really start outdoing mesmer is in high level content like raids, when all the boons and alacrity is permanently on them (likely from a mesmer), and can hit 9 – 13k per hit. In those scenarios, you will be humbled. But yeah as others have said, mesmer works great in open world and was actually my first character in GW2

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Alex Shatter.7956

Elementalist and thief didn’t get damage nerfed, they are still in the #1 and #2 spot respectively. Since the bracket didn’t budge, I find it hard to declare them as “nerfed”. But the gap with other professions (ranger, engineer, mesmer, guardian, warrior) was closed, so other professions with less DPS got indirectly buffed

Meta and Balance doubts

Alex Shatter.7956

Myth: zerker is meta because speed runs and perfect optimization are the only way high profile / veteran players have fun, and use it to keep out n00bs

Fact: zerker is meta because toughness and vitality investment is functionally useless. the way damage works in high end PvE, a zerker investment means enemies will kill you in two hits. A tanky invested character dies in three hits. Even support characters (revenant, mesmer, druid, healer ele) often run full zerker because investing in different stats just doesnt go anywhere. Also if you raid, investing in a lot of toughness makes it awkward for doing VG, because it messes up the party dynamic

IIRC from Guild Wars we had a couple missions played right on top of a fabled elder dragon (Jormag) buried under the ice. While in Guild Wars 2 this area appeaser to be the Far Shiverpeaks. Those that took notice saw Scarlet’s Energy Probes were placed in that area. Drakkar Lake: “Frozen within the lake itself is a large creature. It is a champion of Jormag, one of the Elder Dragons to be featured in Guild Wars 2.”

Rock vs water, well in that video it was a rather large explosion reaching into the air given the pact gunship depicted. The dragon buried under Drakkar Lake is surrounded by Rocks, trees, ice & snow. While the face can be seen the wings extend below the icey surface into the rocky mountains.

Can’t wait!!!

I think that was technically Jormag’s champion or something (as you mentioned)- not Jormag his / herself. Also I’d be surprised and disappointed if we didn’t go to the desert next / continue with the glint egg story

Assuming each line’s an average of 15 words, that’s 1500 lines, 40 repetitions, for a total of just under a million words. Assuming a modest conversational speed of 1wps, that’s still 250 hours of recording to be done. Even at a pace of 4 hours a day of perfect takes, that’s over 2 months of voice recording if done as a single session per day. In order for them to finish in a week (5 days), it’s going to take 13 recording sessions per day for them to finish the voice recording alone. Text stuff would likely take 1/5th as much effort, so add one more day. Integration and testing will likely take AT LEAST as long as that, so we’re looking at the end of July in a best case “a wizard did it” scenario. Mid-August is probably more reasonable.

I think they can record multiple lines concurrently, I don’t expect all the voice actors to be in the studio taking turns

T4 fractals

in Elementalist

Posted by: Alex Shatter.7956

Alex Shatter.7956

If elementalist is bad at t4 fractals, what’s good at them? DD has even less survivability and damage, all other power specs basically don’t count, druid is unnecessary outside of raids, so that leaves condi, revenant, and chronomancer. The only relevant condi is necro and engi, and with the nerfs to fractal toughness they definitely don’t out DPS ele. Proof by contradiction, ele is viable
