*cough*prepares hammy dramatic voice* Well the new healing skill with venomshare that “Oh the new thief heal is going to mix some things up for sure!!!” is all you are going to get unfortunately when it comes to support. I mean seriously who do you think you are to want to have such perfectly reasonable demands satisfied? Do you think you are a warrior or guard so you can be heard? Who do you think you areeeeeeeeeee (shameless gurren lagann reference)
Now on a more serious note the new venomshare heal skill will be touted for a long time as an incredible new buff to the support capabilities of the thief so at least in their minds, all it’s great on that part. Don’t hold your breath for anything other than that for the next few months, unless some truly dramatic action on the part of the players happens (like a significant drop in the number of thief players).

Here’s the in-game code: [&BxJVAAA=]
4 hits, 1.3k heal. kitten CD.
You have got to be kidding me……..i can’t…well….this at least proves that it’s a good thing i jumped classes.
We were speculating the other day that they made them this ugly on purpose, in order to stimulate more transmutation crystal purchases. :P
Is it still a speculation at this point? :P
Sure when all these other events give loot appropriate to the amount of effort they require. Until then i’m sorry i’m too busy making money (on the fgs train at least)

Also:
what: the thief class
why: because the fact this class still exists it’s quite OP
What: Sanduskel’s Thief
Why: Too stronk
Oh no, what have you done, you have summoned “he who should not be named”. He’ll be here in a few minutes telling you how decent thieves don’t use permastealth at least 50 times in the same thread now.
A friend of mine said that Jon Peters said “The new heal skill for thieves is going to change the meta.”
This is unsubstantiated though. Just word of mouth. He could have been joking.
I guess we are supposed to be venomshare now?
No, he definitely said, “The new heal skill for thieves is going to shake things up”
Yup he did, and it proved to be as another ini regen "masssssssive buff " quote rolls eyes
I was hoping so much for a heal that would heal over time while evading incoming attacks. Preferably that would also let us maintain control over our character so we could still do damage :/ Instead we got the worst kitten ever. Im happy my mesmer almost is as complete as my thief now gearwise.
Something like flashing blades:
evade attacks for 2 or 3 seconds; damage people around you when you evade attacks (range 130). Gain health when you evade attacks.
(my mesmer is almost completely geared as well and I will probably use the new signet if these are accurate)
Except, we don’t get it but warriors do!
Ofc they get it because they’re warriors and not thieves, duh.
I was joking about how the new healing skill would be called Healing Venom (or Healing trap) and that i’d uninstall the game after it was shown to be true.
A heal that heals for kitten, that CAN MISS and requires 30 points to be somewhat decent? Really? I just can’t believe it.
Yup your nightmares are true!
1500 hp + 1 condi clear on dodge = New hard to catch acobatics grandmaster trait revamp
I would take this forever. It would also be a nice compromise for the whole vigor nerf.
Wait that would actually be good but it’s certainly too pricey as a grandmaster trait and especially with the vigor nerfs “iceberg” which is gonna hit the prow soon. sigh Problem is it’s kinda futile to come up with suggestions since the devs are just gonna do their thing despite their lack of knowledge when it comes to this class. Hell, when i finally saw the new heal skill……yeah i’m quite underwhelmed to be honest.
The problem is that very few non-light armors look good AND work with our proportions. The cultural armors are some of the only armors that properly fit us.
unless you have the biggest male body type……then oversized shoulderpads and overblown buttcapes (see the skirt effect thread) will be your dearest friends. Hell this is the reason i forgone buttcapes completely for my mesmer and got the AC light pants instead (i had only 2 options for buttcapeless pants anyways)
9/10 This is one of the few instances that i’ve seen the female face with thorns to actually work so well, elegant but dangerous looking. I also love the color scheme used with the contrast between pale icy blue (giving of a very ethereal, ghostly look) and the blood red (especially the red color around the hands for pretty self explanatory reasons). My only gripe with the design is the armor. Sylvari cultural armor really doesn’t mix too well with normal armor in my opinion, but you can chalk up this to my peculiar aesthethic preferences.
As for my sylvari, you’ll have to excuse the quality of my screencaps since i have some issues with them (they tend to be way darker than actual ingame). Here’s my mesmer, Durthwe. I really wanted a very simple, sleek design for him ( I never imagined how few options a male sylvari light armor user has for actual no frills attached pants). Also i tried to base his skin color and glow of the colors of an almost ending sunset since he belongs to the cycle of dusk (very cliche, i know). Also i’ll get to double wield Bonneti’s rapier once i get the money ;P

Hey, please tell us what you’re even talking about? You just rush and say bad bad bad bad bad bad and does not even say the name of the thing you talk about…
He’s talking about the fact thieves lack any ranged weapon with a range over 900 and all the problems that come up with this fact.
It’s too late for that, he has fed so much that he became autonomous.
Personally, out of the 7 thief players i know and play with, 6 ppl are going to keep their thieves on standby waiting for a better balance update in the future (me included) and the unfortunate one odd man out of the group is waiting to see how bad the balance update is gonna hit before considering a reroll (his thief is his only lvl 80, plus he has his char all geared up with asc. items, weapons plus legendaries so it’s understandably hard to just jump over to another char after all that work).
So basically out of my tiny group of friends only one will keep playing thief and that’s more to do with circumstances.
Yup it’s working now.
Too many ppl are affected by this for them to sweep it under the rug, i mean over 70% of the ppl i talked to around my server have this bug and that’s a lot of ppl.
Also bump
on gunnars hold it seems to be a server wide issue, almost everyone i talk to has this problem
Same problem here and considering all the ppl i found in LA with the same problem over on my server (Gunnars hold) this seems to be quite the bug.
Considering the upcoming balance patch i would avoid this class. As mentioned before try out a mesmer, it has a pretty ok skill cap and it’s generally much more reliable and useful in all gamemodes than the thief.
Still, even if the rifle is just a medium armor class, the one holding the hammer could be a light armor class, since the headpiece seems fairly similar to the cabalist’s set one (http://www.gw2armorgallery.com/human-light.htm#standard).
Sadly, I don’t recognize the rest of the set the character is wearing, so I’m not quite sure if it could actually be a light-armor class holding a hammer.
Ps. This is just me running my mouth, but a hammer mesmer could be fun, maybe more dazes and a 2h melee weapon.
The hammer guy is the cultist boss you fight in the colossus fractal :P
You must be kidding. More like, sample size of the entire Warrior population. You can’t swing a cat around by its tail without hitting a Healing Signet Warrior of some type.
You have done a great mistake here by starting a discussion with Sandy here. I warn you that it’ll be a pointless endeavour arguing further so value your sanity and stop.
But, I mean thieves are totally OP, I hope Anet nerfs them more._
(they should increase the gathering time when the thief mines/cuts/picks nodes, I can’t stand how thieves are able to do that (faster in stealth too). Also lengthen their crafting times (again, they craft faster in stealth)).
Dear god, don’t give them ideas now :O
After seeing the balance update i would say don’t bother for now, try another class until the balance fiasco is gone.
On the first and second level the mobs and events are manageable and quite fun but the third floor is basically pre nerf Orr on steroids, the amount of cc and conditions flying around is outstanding plus the corrupted debuff as the cherry on top. Otherwise there’s a fair amount of work put into this one so kudos to that at least.
Thaumanova fractal for sure
Sorry, the red names only post enough to make us think that they care – just enough to be able to say “We asked for feedback didn’t we?”.
The patch was already decided before they came in and “got feedback”. Just try to reimagine your builds, as it’s all that’s left for us to do.
Or just reroll. Don’t forget that they base much of their balancing on metrics. If the number of thief players drops enough it may force them to actually do something about this whole balance mess.
You are arguing with people whose argument is “thieves have no stability”. Why even bother?
Because thieves have very little in the way of mitigating CC since our stunbreakers are pretty lackluster and with the current condi/cc overkill meta, a stunned thief is an easy kill, that’s why. Also add in our lack of effective condi removal outside stealth and lack of damage mitigation, blocks, etc to spice up things.
it’s dagger OH 4# for cripples and 5# for stealth :P
The exact opposite is true. Opportunity builds might see a reduction in burst but most builds will see more attacks over time. The change actually encourages pacing over burst.
Question: what other builds are we talking here? i would love to hear some examples
If a skill doesn’t have timed activation cost, it blows right through a stun. The reason we see most times on thief skills is because they want them to be effected by stuns. Most of the longer duration skills are because they have multiple attacks or parts that use the duration to balance the different parts of the attack.
The big problem with that is that a locked down thief in the current state is a dead thief. Another glaring problem is that they nerfed our evasion but gave us nothing in return. Oh wait, not exactly nothing; they buffed a rather lackluster trait into a shinier version of irrelevance and another one that increases our chances of getting killed.
I would suggest to hold back the thief balancing till they have something more viable and only implement the infusion of shadow change
I agree with this, i’d rather have only the infusion fix than any of the proposed changes, especially if it means the balance team will take their time to actually familiarize themselves with the class and thus produce a quality update at a later date.
I really appreciate all the input and posts you have put in here Jon but right now i really want to ask you: do you really think you are creating more build diversity or helping thief players in general by nerfing the few builds that actually work and giving us so little in return?
I really want to scuse myself for the incoming rant and negativity but the simple answer is no. Do you think thieves will stay and fight more if you nerf their acces to vigor, ini generation rewarded to them if they stick to fight and only give them a very lackluster healing on ini consumption trait that is bugged and another trait that has the potential to kill the thief rather help?
Again the answer is no. This entire balance update you have only contradicted yourselves in your stated goals and the actual changes you made. If anything you pidgeonholed us even more by significantly nerfing s/d and taking a hit at perma evade builds which were the only things that were keeping thieves afloat in spvp.
Also the gigantic, masssssive ini regen buff, which ultimately helps only the few already unviable builds which don’t heavily use ini regen traits (see d/d) and nerfed all the other builds which rely on said ini regen traits to mantain their ini generation rate and you know not die horribly and maintain their damage (See s/d trickery builds or the now long buried s/p).
And to add insult to injury you not also mistaken the shadowstep stomp with the sword 2# but listed it as one of the reasons you nerfed sword2# and s/x builds into the ground.
But my biggest problem right now is the mentality you have when it comes to balancing. Personally i’m sick and utterly tired of forcing us to come up with builds by nerfing the ones that work and giving very little or nothing in return. It’s the same mentality with which you created the elementalist update debacle (remember the june update and how wonderful it worked out, so wonderful that ele was the only class not represented in the tournament you made later) and the mesmer one before. You wants us to use venoms or condibuilds? Then rework venoms and condi acces to make them appealing or at least usable, don’t force us into these builds by nerfing everything else. Rework the traits that don’t work, buff the lackluster ones, create synergy between them don’t nerf the few ones who do work (outside clearly broken ones like d/p permastealth)and expect us to come up with miracles and still be effective when we have lackluster tools at our disposal.
Anyways as far as i’m concerned i’m relegating my thief to gathering duty until this debacle blows over and that’s only because i have the inifinite tools bought on him and don’t have the money to buy new ones for my other chars. I really hope you won’t nerf my gathering rate as well.
Again i scuse myself for the caustic tone used but going through this again (used to main an ele) is quite fustrating.

Please read the very first post, where I placed “The Death of D/P permastealth” in the “Good” section.
If you can’t be bothered to read before you comment, don’t post.
If you’ve been on this forums for any period of time you would know by now that Sandy has only one train of thought he expresses here regardless of the topic at hand: that permastealth is the devil and perma evade or whatever build he’s using is the best thing ever compared to the filthy permastealth…..wait that makes it 2 thoughts.
Perma stealth was an abuse of mechanics. it needed a shearing.
Dear god, you really do have only one note to play………but then again i agree, permastealth needed a fix. Which they did and they’ve also managed to shave of the rest of the tree with it (keeping in with the shear/gardening theme).
Oh Sandy, at least you managed to make me laugh from once in a while……..anyways for the rest, if i learned anything from the Ele and Mesmer nerf horror season is that they nerf a class for a few updates consecutively (usually nerfing the same builds even if the meta changed or they managed to destroy those builds) so at least one nerf update is still in the making and with that one the camels back will be truly broken. Thieves may not be broken yet and can still limp away but with the next one they will be dead.
To be honest i understand you, Zacchary. It’s pretty horrible having to hope patch after patch after patch that Anet didn’t/won’t nerf your class into ground and nullify all the effort and time you put into learning your class, getting your ascended gear, etc. Tbh i’m quite tired of it considering i’ve been through this with my ele and now with the same history repeating with the thief, i’ll just go and hop along on the warr and guard train fulltime, at least that way i’ll be sure i won’t be at mercy of the balance guys.
^ still too Op, we need a bigger nerf
Lookin good. What build are you using?
It would be nice but unfortunately that will not be the case! I would love to play nice but there are some ppl who really get on my nerves regardless of my patience and understanding. The ppl who go on with “learn to play n00b (directed at ppl that complain about the nerfs), thief is so eazy, facerolling permastealth, need challenge lolz, perma stealth scrub, etc” because i’ve been through the same situation twice already with the ele and to a lesser extent with the mesmer balance patches.
The history repeats itself exactly, eles got nerfed into oblivion patch after patch after patch, all the while a rather vocal minority flooding the forums and telling everyone to learn to play better cause eles are okay, etkittenil the june update hit and we all know how that ended. It ended with the last tournament not having a single team using an elementalist in the end.
And guess what? Thief is next in line since there’s just too much qq about them and their stealth.
Also ppl forget that when Anet starts nerfing a profession they continously nerf it in the next subsequent patches regardless if the overall meta changed or not since the last one. This still happens with the ele d/d bunker which was starting to loose viability even before the june patch, let alone the fact it’s trash now. Guess what? It got nerfed even in the current update after 5 months of continous nerfs to it and not being viable anyways.
In the upcoming balance patches they’ll continously nerf the thief until they manage to break the class just like they did with eles and i would really love to see all those high end players “looking for a challenge” how they’ll react when they’ll be kittened into the ground as well. Maybe then they’ll get some perspective then and we all will get along in our communal misery.
My problem with what you just said though…is that you have a problem with the community response and not necessarily with the players involved. It just seems your upset with some of the forum warriors responses here, which I would guess these developers have long since tuned us out
To be honest i have a problem with all of them:
-the a-net dev has behaved unprofessionally with his badge on and obstructed the GvG match on purpose.
-the players were in the right to ask him to leave or kill him off directly but instead they opted to be complete XXXXXXXX from the get go
- and yes the forum warriors who defend the culprits as if they are innocent saints and ask for sacking the dev
If that wasn’t the case, I can assure you that people everywhere would be tooling on kitten customers….but you just can’t, if you do….you’re gonna get in trouble. That’s it…even if the customer deserves it.
Ofc “customer is always right” until they start to be verbally abusive and harass the employee, that’s the moment when you call security and remove the costumer or in this case ban them. However the dev did the wrong thing and tried to talk back (the amount of offense, considering his talk back consisted of “you are violating my game mode” is up for debate) and having an unprofessional conduct while wearing the badge thus both parties were in the wrong.
The reason i’m siding up more on the side of the dev is the exagerate response from the community who seems to want this dev fired and then lynched for this. He should be reprimanded? Sure but so should be the players since they were in the wrong as well.
LOL, it’s ok if developers troll….but if they get my coffee wrong at the coffee shop I’m gonna flip my lid…people are so niave.
I said both parties handled this wrong and made mistakes, some bigger than the others but i don’t see A-net making threads all over here, reddit, etc asking for those players to loose their jobs, or harassing them ingame (just speculation on this one but considering the response we got here in these forums and the fact his account name has been published this may very well be true) over this.
Here let me go put on my work shirt and come back and yell at the customer’s….that always fixes everything…..
Where did he yell? The silly little “you violate my game mode” part? Cause that’s the only thing he said that can be taken as offensive to anyone. Outside of that he was far more respectful than the players, who btw broke the TOS with some of those replies and they didn’t get banned for that.
26 pages and we have seen the response and apology from ANET in regards to this incident. When are we going to see a similar response from those people involved for their language and treatment of the ANET person? Apologies should go both ways in this case but I have yet to see the opposing side man up and do so. All I see is “he kittened up and should be lynched, tarred and feathered and run out of town”. Since such language is against the TOS should those involved be punished accordingly which would constitute a ban? Fair is fair! Both sides were wrong.
I’m sorry but you seem to have a balanced and rational view of this situation and as such i must remind you of the official version of this event:
“cough” the poor poor players, who are innocent and perfect and didn’t do anything wrong were just having a GvG and a mean and evil troll came to spoil their fun. And as such they fought with him valiantly day and night but the troll used his A-net badge thus it was revealed that he was no mere troll but the trolliest of the trolls. Shocked and dismayed at the true power of their enemy, they bravely fought and managed to vanquish him in game in the end, but the crusade carries on in real life and on many other forums for this evil must be purged from the world.
Well this is quite the entertaining tempest in a teapot.
So let’s see if i got this: we have a group of players who really love to do GvG and getting by how they can, given the feauture is not implementated, thus using WvW. At one point time they acted completely out of line using verbal abuse and harrasement (all of those being bannable offenses from the get go) over a player (who turned out to be a dev) that was ruining their match, later on running him away. The dev returns , he gets harrassed again when he points out that the improptu gvg actually is against WvW rules. At this point he whips up his anet badge trying to police ppl and starting acting in a rather unproffesional and dare i say childish manner and thus we are here.
OK, now the dev might have acted unproffesionaly but nothing he said warranted such an extreme reaction, even moreso considering the way how the players acted. Those players should have got a little break (called a ban for a few days) considering the language and harrasement policies a-net has in the TOS, from the get go.
Not only that but said players are now drumming up the flames of war, rage and tears on several other sites alongside a request to get the a-net dev fired, because a-net has been mean to them.
Wow, seriously wow
Compared with the other bugs which came up with this LS, this one seems insignificant but did anyone else had this problem with the Whispers chest armor? Basically i lost one of the dyeable locations on my chest (3 instead of 4), and trying to use a newly bought chest piece gets me the same problem.
Really minor thing but annoying nonetheless.
