Personally i want megaservers gone back into the dark pit that they’ve spawned from….outside of that some gneral UI streamlining would help, also a template saver, better optimization, and better overall scaling mechanics of the world bosses if we are stuck with the eternal mega-zerg…also add in a better method to discover gathering nodes thanks to their randomization per map shard or having their locations unified over shards. It takes me 1 h 30 just to do a t6 run for malchors, cursed, southsun and fgs sorry but i can’t stop at one :p

Anet always responds, and it’s only been 7 days since the patch, you honestly think they won’t respond at all?

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe they need to gather enough feedback/data/etc to give us a proper answer? Or I guess you just want a “yes we know about it” answer that really doesn’t tell us anything.

It’s also the holidays, so let them gather themselves a little here, and go do something else instead of refreshing the page to see if a dev has responded yet.

You don’ t release such a game changing system and then you go on holiday and barely leave any form of support or backup. This is quite the bad business practice if i ever heard one.

They rolled out the megaserver system in the course of a few days over all the pve maps, instead of rolling them out at a slower pace and studying the systems reaction on low pop maps, world boss encounters, etc and tweaking accordingly. Personally i highly dislike being a guinea pig for the systems they develop for their chinese release and having my open world pve experience so negatively affected.

Gold Sellers

This is because all the gold sellers that were generally contained in each servers instance are now grouped together in shards alongside a now increased population thanks to the megaserver. You might want to get used to this as long as the megaservers are up.

I agree though much of the problems that we have with the megaserver are mirrored in ESO as well, and that for better or for worse (mostly worse) was built with megaservers in mind, GW2 wasn’t.

Megaservers and Temples

Why hello there svarty. Yes, straits of devastation is in megaserver while the temple event is still bound to the old timer. This means that in every version of the map the temple events will be at different points of progression through the meta according to what the players on that shard completed. Basically entering a shard with a temple completed or underway is a game of RNG.

Leveling is the worst it's been

AlexEBT.7240

the trait system is not made for the current game because gw2 is a aged game 90%+ of the game population is 80 already so they have several ways to get their alt to 80 fast with help of their main.and this game still has new comers but their number is not big enough to make anet reconsider.
but the question is why change to trait system now after almost 20 months?
because of the expansion:)
remember all of us are going to be low levels again when expansion hits and they want us to go through expansion content by unlocking traits rather than rushing through content to reach level cap again.
that is why many people are for it. it actually make leveling fun when you play an expansion it is patch preparing you for the future.

Very optimistic but the task for trait aquisition seems to have been selected at a drunk bingo party. They have no flow with each other or the levelling experience, are repetitive, boring or downright impossible to do at the level of unlock, plus they’ve put ALL the traits for unlocking. Even in GW1 you had a core skill pool you could choose from to build up your character at low lvls.

Game Updates: Traits

I respectfully disagree, you state opinions… I used math.
and…

Math trumps opinion any day. And twice on Sunday.

No, the only thing you did was show the amount of combinations you can make in respective to aquiring the traits under the new system. That doesn’t however invalidate the fact that for every trait you want to aquire you have only 2 methods to do so: the task given or buying it.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: AlexEBT.7240

AlexEBT.7240

I took the time to figure out mathematically How many different combinations there are of aquiring traits, for the sake of simplicity and since I am Not a mathematicion, and had to figure it out with pencil, and a few pieces of paper, I calculated How many different ways there are to pay for the 5 NEW grandmaster traits only.

Of course if you add the master and adept traits the number oc combinations increases. If anyone is a mathematician and wishes to do this as a mental exercise we can see exactly how many different combinations there are of paying for all the traits.

I made some assumptions, I assumed that some players may only want one trait, some may want 2, some three, some 4 and some all 5.

I also assumed that not all would pick 100 % of one or 100 % of the other manner to pay for it, but may mix, and match….

maybe Lines 1 and 4 are done as events and maybe 23, and 5 are paid for with cash and skill points etc…

there are 5 traits and 2 different ways to pay for those traits:
I used the following website

http://www.mathsisfun.com/combinatorics/combinations-permutations-calculator.html

which gave me the following formula for figuring how to group n items taken in groups of r:

Number of cominations = n!/[(n-r)!x(r!)]

so I used that to figure out How to group 5 items taken at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 at a time… came up with

5 + 10 + 10 + 5 + 1= 31

then we get complicated, since there are 2 different ways of paying for each combination… and this at this point is beyond my ability to calculate.

all I Know is.."The true Number of combinations of paying for all the NEW grandmaster traits since you can either 1. do events or 2. pay with skillpoints and gold " > 31.

But assume there are only 32, even though we KNOW it is gonna be a Lot more than 32. if anyone would Like to work up the math i would appreciate a math lesson in IM :P

That means there are at LEAST 32 Possible combinations on how to aquire one, any or all the new grandmaster traits…..

then add in the master, and the adept… and I have to wonder…

FORCE = lack of Options.

This seems to be plenty of options.

Ok, the mental acrobatics are getting silly.
In the case of each trait you only have 2 options: you either do the task given which is in some cases is completely inappropiate in respective to the level of the player (WvW, higher lvl content then the moment of aquistion) or too time consuming (map completion on 12 maps…maybe more don’t qoute me on this) or you pay for it (new players haven’t got much in the way of funds). That’s it.

This is completely wrong…it’s not like the megaserver puts you in the same zone as with the other members by first priority or anything… And please leave if something so good for the rest of the game can make you ragequit.

Well it doesn’t put you in the same shard with your guild or your server as first priority. Case in point our last bounty mission when all 3 full parties got into 5 different version of the map. This sytem doesn’t even take in account parties sometimes.

The megaserver is a cross-server permanent overflow system so no surprises there.

The game is better than it was, not worse. Yes there are downsides, but these downsides are largely overstated.

You can’t get the wurm and tequatl. I wonder what percentage of the game’s players even care about those things. Certainly more people care about having people in dead zones. At least I’m pretty sure that’s the case.

There’s a certain type of person that does Teq and the Wurm and loves that. And if that’s all they log on for, they probably wouldnt’ stay around that long anyway.

This is best for the health of the game, over all. And yes, some demographics will be shafted. But I really do believe more people will play with and stay with the game this way than if they left Tequatl, the Wurm and the Karka Queen alone.

I do wonder how long will the players get sick of the constant zerging, world bsoses lagfests, the inability to do temples, guild missions, organzied teq or wurm runs and basically all the activites outside prancing in the wildflower fields in the open world…which mind you i can barely do anyways thanks to the overcrowded maps and the casual racism, xenophobia, homophobia, sexism and all kinds of wonderful things clogging up my chat log log lately…. that’s if it is at least in a language i can understand.

I had a great community in Gunnars Hold, we had mining runs, temple runs, world boss runs, teq runs, karka trains and so much more. We all knew the commanders running them and personally i was friends with most of them and the people running with them. We had fun without crossing lines and trolling was a very extreme occurance. All that wonderful social aspect for me is gone and instead i have faceless zergs killling things within seconds of spawning taking away all the little challenge that was left out of them talking about how queers should die and women should be in the kitchen all the while if i actually have time to do the bosses thanks to the schedule.

As for the health of the game, THIS GAME WAS NOT DESIGNED WITH MEGASERVER IN MIND, they are trying to fit a round peg in a square shape and it’s showing, and no matter how much they hammer it in it won’t work.

I ran the string of boss events again and all were well populated. However, Teq and Wurm are still ghost towns, so why do we need this again?

They’re not megaserver. I was running the world boss train today and that was the general thought. Tequatl would be worth doing if it was on the megaserver, but not without it. Didn’t stop us from trying and failing though.

Do you really think you can pug Teq with the megaserver system? Without TS organization it’s a very difficult encounter just sayin.

Well I mean, it’s an MMO.

Personally, I like it. I’m also continually impressed by whoever is marketing these things to us, because they’ve turned server merges (typically a sign of a game in decline) into a new features that outside of threads like this generally seems to be well received.

Well recieved by whom exactly? Everywhere the megaserver creates gigantic amounts of problems for players. I can’t even do my guild bounty thanks ot the fact all my guildies arrive in whole different map shards, we loose 5 mins just taxiing them for one bounty.

There’s so many ppl at world bosses and temples that you can barely tag anything and the bosses become trivial to the insane damage output of around 200 ppl. On the other hand teq and wurm will be nigh impossible to organize and run. events scale up into oblivion making it impossible to do see grenth and lyssa. Let alone the lagfest those areas become.

How about the language problems, or the fact that even when partied up the chance of you and your party members reach the same instance is 50/50.

Hunting for traits is now an exercise in fustration since landing on a map shard that is actually doing the event you need is nothing but rng that is if the temple meta triggers at all thanks to the defense events being done.

Etc, etc seriously those ppl just don’t know how shafted they are yet, give them one week for them to start experiencing the problems and they’ll change their tune. Hell look at what i have to deal with at fire ele.

Well considering that after the patch my reaction can be summed up as: dear God, it’s on fire….

The megaserver system just doesn’t work with the way this game was designed it creates too many problems all the while fixing 1 or two. Doing open world pve content outside levelling in low pop areas is nothing but a chore now :<

Plus i’ll be playing less just by the virtue of my computer not being able to support the way larger population on some maps. Playing at 3 fps is not my definition of fun. Also the particle effects rave party obscuring everything. Or the fact i can’t get in the same instance even with ppl i partied with. Or the language problems. Or the reduced amount of world bosses. Or the fact that organizing tequatl/wurm is very difficult/ near impossible right now. etc etc. Hell look at the second picture to get how my game looks like in order to play with a semblence of fps….7 fps mind you and i have everything on the lowest possible setting, including showing ppl on screen in case you are wondering why there so few ppl on screen.

Personally, some maps were dead so the system would work perfectly once the language and guild things are sorted out.

The main issue is the maps are getting way too populated, it’s physically impossible to me to play like this, not even in WvW I’d get blobs with so many people it made the game completely unusable, and I think others are in my same situation.

Indeed, i neeed to put all my graphical settings on minimum just to be able to have a decent 15 fps with no fighting going on :P

Hey, believe what you want but it’s not like this megaserver system is not throwing quite a few ppl under the bus and those ppl are very unhappy with this. And in my case, yes i did stop playing for an extended period of time and also stopped purchasing from the gemstore will real money over my grievances (the balance team has no clue what they are doing so i just made multiple fully geared chars of the most popular professions aka warr, guard, thief, mesmer, engi, the last one was my old main, and just cycle through them everytime the balance team kittens something up with some of them) back then. The b2p nature of the game makes it easy for ppl to keep playing without supporting the game in any way.

Again. That is the choice of TTS and its members. Your problems should not influence Guild Wars as a whole. I´m being quite blunt here, but I gotta keep it real.

It does influence negatively about 5000 players who are in the guild and their friends and it also kittens all the servers who do server runs on these bosses outside TTS…that brings it quite close to a big chunk of the GW2 playerbase.

AlexEBT.7240

No, they’re not the same thing.

A server merge only affects low population servers. A server merge does nothing for higher population servers.

With this plan, a person playing off hours on ANY server, will have people to play with. With a server merge, that’s not true.

I’m telling you that if the busiest servers NOW have dead zones at certain times, then a server merge won’t help smaller servers. It’ll make them like bigger servers.

Bigger population events WILL be populated….most of the maps will be dead.

Server merges do NOT solve that problem. The meta server does. The megaserver is not another name for server merge.

You are overestimating the number of players you are going to find on dead maps. Plus this megaserver system only treats the symptom (while creating a neverending list of problems) not the cause which is the lack of worthwhile activities on said maps and the dwindling population on some servers.

Is TSS not a huge guild? Why is it out of your reach to get those boss spawn thingies? Please do explain that to me. If anything that specific change should make it even easier for a huge guild to do World Events as they can do them at will.

Well TTS is not one unified guild to begin with, it’s formed out of multiple smaller guilds that span over all the servers.

Secondly ,the guilds are only used for organization, they are not an actual active guild that does other events outside world bosses so they don’t gain much influence to buy the thing.

Thirdly, the new megaserver will make running and organizing tequatl/wurm a living hell, thanks to the megaserver shuffling incoming ppl on different versions on the map in order to accomodate the populations. Taxiing over 50 ppl is quite the chore. Which brings to the fact, the already present population (which is formed out of ill equiped low lvl characters exploring the area) on that version is higher thanks to the new system will make it easier to cap out thus leaving other teq/wurm runners out of the version of the map where it is run.

Also with the old system, by capping the normal map, you could create a completely clean overflow where you could get in all the teq/wurm runners, making coordination on TS and ingame much easier let alone now you a full population cap in the new overflow to accomodating all the runners. And considering the difficulty of doing Wurm even with a full, well organized, overflow of ppl i can safely say, without breaking the new system like the old one, it will be close to impossible.

1. Seems like these strict timers for WBs defeat the main benefit of the Megaserver system — that if you’re some unfortunate person who can’t play until 10 at night, you can still potentially find enough players, by combining multiple worlds, to complete bosses now. By putting them on timers which may completely fail to overlap with play schedules, you’ve gone from a system where they were likely to fail these encounters to a system where they aren’t allowed to play them at all.

This is actually something i didn’t think about. Basically the system doesn’t even work with the intended goals. Do these ppl even think about what they are doing here?

However with the megaserver, and population increases in the map, you’ll still be able to pull off those events and not have to worry about “dead weight” players in the area.

It’s actually the other way around since more low lvl players will be present on the map versions thanks to the system makeing it easier to cap out plus you have to add the fact that most of the ppl attempting this will not even get in the correct version as the system will try to spread them out to meet the soft and hard cap requirements for each version. Basically if you think taxiing overflows is bad this will be even worse thanks to the larger number of displaced ppl.

GW1 was not a megaserver but was similar to this. People are making mountains out of mole hills.

No the gw1 system was different. You could choose your district instead of being at the mercy of a system all the time you entered a map. Secondly gw1 didn’t have the uninstanced world with group events, world bosses, etc which is affected quite dramatically by the new permanent automated slightly random guesting system they introduced here.

My concern: zerg fest everywhere. Please tell me this won’t be the case… or I need a new game.

That is the case. The new system will draw in players from other servers and arange them in different versions in order to cap out those versions at a nebulous “comfortable number” of players.

Since the megaserver will put people with the same Home on the same instance, it won’t affect rallying calls that much. Yes it will have players from other servers mixed in, if your server doesn’t have a high enough population to support one map but that’s also a problem with the current system.

The megaserver will try to put you in a version of the map populated by other players from your server. Keyword is “try”. If the megaserver system decides enough ppl from your server have reached a “comfortable number” on that version you’ll be basically ported to a version of that map that needs more players in it to reach the cap. You know, they have to take players from somewhere to actually reinforce the numbers in les populated versions. Also since the system is automated you have no control where you’ll end up in.

As an example you have 2 versions:
A- 40-GH players, 10-TC, 10-RoS, 25-Gandara, etc
B- 25-TC, 5-RoS, 5-GH, etc

As a gunnars-hold player if i want to get into the version A of the map for guild missions for example, thanks to the way the number of players scale up in the population algorithm (Also them coming and going from the map) i’ll most likely end up in the lower pop version while other guildies will end up in other lower pop versions all around. If we party up you may end with the same problem but now with parties.
Sure we can start to taxi ppl around into one version but this is a hassle that currently we don’t face with the current system unless we hit an overflow.

Also this system makes it hard to coordinate big events like Teq, especially as a server run, since you loose all your control over who gets in the map and from where, let alone the now increased number of low lvl ppl who were just exploring the map and capping out spots for ppl wanting and being prepared to kill Tequatl.

Basically i was pretty optimistic about the update, sure it had things that miffed me (town clothes) but all in all i could get over the problems and loved some of the new changes….and then the Megaserver blog post came up, and right now i’m basically trying to figure out what other parts of the game i haven’t tried; to experience before leaving the game. kitten shame, i loved this game but if the developers want to dictate at what time i’m supposed to do events and even on what server i’m supossed to play then it’s better to just call it quits.

The worst part of it is that the backlash over this ridiculously bad idea of a system is quite tame here on the forums giving them the illusion that this is just a vocal minority but the reality is most players don’t frequent the forums and considering some of the disscussions i’ve heard from quite a few big end guilds on my server…well let’s just say the population drop will become quite the problem the next few months.

Ok…i have a question…..who thought this overbloated, overcomplicated monstrosity of a system was a good ideea in the first place? Not to slide too much in the doomsaying but look just at how many problems you created in order to fix population problems on low pop servers:

1. You scheduled all the events on all servers at specific times. Even with the very short dead times inbetween it still takes 5 hours to make a full time rotation through all of the bosses which means many of your players, who can only play on a very restricted time period, will never get to do the bosses that are out of their play time. Also let’s not forget the added over problem that some of the traits, with the new trait system, need you to defeat specific world bosses in order to gain them. At least with the old system such players could simply hunt the events necessary on other servers, now the only way to get them is for them to organize their life around your timetable, buy the trait, or just forgo it entirely.

2. You’re randomizing each of the map instance’s resource nodes……we on Gunnars Hold had this wonderful thing called the Mining Run. Now it’s dead. Also trying to find all the nodes by yourself will take over 1 hour if you’re lucky. And trying to make map nodes and establishing routes is basically impossible since you have no ideea even if you will hit the version of the region you mapped. Ty very much for kittening with my profits Anet. Love you too.

3. You have no control over what version of the region you enter making organized or playing in a large group even more difficult. See all the complains about Teq and wurm. Also at a smaller scale, with the new system trying to even follow a commander to a region becomes a game of luck if you even going to land in the same map version or wherever this nebulous magical algorithm will put you. Example, on Gunnars we do temple runs in the evening, alongside the problem of getting into the version of the map where the commanders got into we also have to problem of having other commanders from other servers brought into that version, either already running i tor vying for control over the run.

4. Contested waypoints. Outside the fact this means you have to basically play russian roulette if you’ll even get to the wp you wanted, in the dire situation you don’t, hope you like the, basically, doubled loading times (let alone that in between those 2 loading screen you have no ideea on what version of the map you land). Also thanks to the wonderful inability of seeing contested waypoints tracking down open temples, events or trying to enter COF or COE without spending 30 minutes of your life on the preevents (when with the old system it took me 2 minutes to find it open on another server) becomes a question of RNG….also don’t forget to add the lack of control over the version you enter to begin with.

5. Server identity, community and organization. It’s called “server” community for a reason. While my server is open to all newcomers, having ppl added over from other servers at random to reach some nebulous amount of players is gonna create nothing but trouble. I’m going at this one just by the example you gave us on the blog, where you had 30 ppl from one server in a map so the system adds about 30 players randomly from other servers versions of the map. This also makes server organized events like temple runs, mining runs, teq runs etc quite a conundrum to run with all the new ppl who have no clue about how we organize popping up at random.

6. WvW. Don’t think i need to explain this one. Hopefully the next upcoming blog posts will abate my fears. I’m not holding my breath though.

At this point it would have been easier to just merge the low pop servers insted of overhaluing the current system into this monstrosity, let alone that at least we had some form of sure workarounds for the old onw, while with the new one we are left at the mercy of some mystical algorithm. Wrestling our control over our own game experience is not gonna keep many players in this game. Tbh if once it goes live and it is as bad as i make it sound, that population drop problem will become far more acute then before. I know it will be my case.

Don’t be so dramatic. There is no indication you’ll have to do dungeons or whatnot for the traits. In fact there are plenty of powerful monsters/bosses in the open world to add a trait to their defeat.

This might actually be a reason for people to kill a specific spawn or do a specific event chain for a change.

How many times you think ppl are gonna kill them after they get their traits from them? Do you think ppl will be running trait champ farms or that the areas will be just as deserted as before, now with the added necessity for you to kill the mobs, etc by yourself cause you need the trait but nobody is around? I mean, my server barely does the Arah meta chain once in a blue moon and if you look at the ranger trait screenshot they provided, one of the traits is aquired by killing the High risen priest. Yai for guesting i guess. Also double yai for gw2state.com/temples.
But a new player won’t know how the circumvent this or have the resources to buy them off. Eh this sytem may have worked in gw1 (somewhat, it was horribly annoying there as well) but gw2 is a different beast all together and all i’m seeing here is a source of fustration for new players if they don’t balance out the aquisition.

The trait hunting sounds like nothing more than a giant incovenience tbh. “Hey mesmer you want to make a PU based build for WvW roaming well i hope your server does the Arah meta event cause otherwise you are not getting it” Hey do you want all these build/ profession defining traits that without the profession is basically unplayable?
Well i hope you compiled your to do list from dulfy cause it may takes a few weeks to get them, more or less, depends on how active your community is, and how many metas they run, if they run them at all, and how much personal story, missions, wvw and dungeons you can stomach (let alone finding a competent group for all that), so you can actually play your profession.

Oh yeah also don’t forget you’ll have to run dungeons, fractals, etc using underpowered or unworkable builds because you are missing the traits you are doing the dungeons for, in the first place.
Also thanks to the new level cap trait aquisition, levelling up becomes even more of a chore.

PS: Whatever class gets their gm behind Arah p4 i’ll weep for you

PSS: but wait… you can avoid all the bullkitten by just straight up buying them. Gee this will not push players, especially new players, who don’t have the funds (or are unwilling to play circus pets and jump through all these hoops) to farm for gold even more, amirite. Viva le champ farms, running Queensdale 24/7

The trait hunting sounds annoying as hell tbh, just like it was in gw1. Hey, mesmer player you want to make a PU based build for WvW roaming? Sounds great? Super well i hope your server does the Arah meta event cause otherwise you are not getting it. Hey do you want all these build defining traits? Well i hope you compiled your “to do” list from dulfy and corresponding to the population of your server, it may take a few weeks to get them. What do you say there in the back: you want to do wvw only? well i hope they introduced some way for you to aquire them just by wvw….hopefully

Ps: Whatever class gets their gm behind Arah p4 i’ll weep for you.

Pss: But oh wait why would you bother with all these complications and bullkitten, just farm up some dungeons, do a mining run and then buy them up. Plus all the gold earned is universal, you always need more gold so that’s great.

Why must people keep shouting expansion?

- new races
- new classes
- a fair amount of new skills (what did we get, 1 generic heal that is good for nothing , and one heal for each class, that is in regards to the GW history underwhelming)

Considering how hard it is for them to balance up the game (just take a look at the profession balance forum) as it is they would willingly pile up more problems for themselves?

There is no balance now, be it in PvP, PvE or WvW. What difference would a new class make then? Or some new skills. If you are worried about eSports ambitions, just make all new skills PvE/WvW only.

eSports, best joke ever.

It’s not about e-sports. Let them, actually, get a grip on how to make the current system work before adding more fuel to the fire so to speak.

Braham is a bit flat as a character. Plus I don’t think he is convincing as a Norn (more like a big human). What happened to the Norn from GW1?

They got retconned when Arena Net took aboard new writers for Guild Wars 2. Braham is a fine example of the new writers at work in the Living Story.

Anyway to those that want him removed, if he was then we men have no representation in Destiny’s edge 2.0 any more!

Hey we don’t know if they’ll add other male chars later in season 2.

I’m okay with Kasmeer and Marjory. I hope Braham dies. I can’t stand a thought that new Destiny’s Edge will have such member.

What’s wrong with Braham?

Guys, can we please go back to discussing as to why these two characters are dislikable/bland? Before statements like “If only Jory were a man” or “I hate LGBT content being milled out more than heterosexual content” were made, this thread was civil with its discussion, as what the OP wanted it to be.

Yes, you are right, i did get carried away in the end but let’s be honest sooner or later we would have gotten to that point anyways.
As for them being bland, my beef is with Marjory. While she is explored as a character she just doesn’t get the growth or dynamics the other ones do, especially in contrast to Kasmeer who really evolved throughout the story (from cute, clueless bimbo to an actual fighter), Roxs and Brahams relationship or even the entertainment of the interactions between Taimi and Braham.
Basically put she’s just kinda there and has very few moments when she shines, and when she does it’s more about her proffesional expertise (tower of nightmares, the investigation mission) rather than her personality.

His statement is completely fine. He is allowed to disagree with you and the entirety of the LGBT community. He has just as much right to his opinion as you to yours.

He is entitled to his opinion. However his opinion is not immune to criticism or challenge or should have any importance in a civilized world the same way racism, sexism have no place either.

Disagreeing with that life style on a forum is not oppressing your life style.

Oh look the “gay lifestyle” term reared it’s head. It may seem harmless, but the implications of referring to a “gay lifestyle” is significant. It ‘Others’ the LGBT community, suggesting that they aren’t like straight people. It doesn’t encourage to relate to people who are gay. It doesn’t encourage to try to sympathise with the challenges that gay people have to face throughout their lives. It allows for a comfortable distance from the discrimination they face and that goes on all around us; after all, who asked them to choose this “lifestyle”?

The idea of the “gay lifestyle” is nothing but a huge, steaming plate of bullkitten served up by people who have made little-to-no effort to understand how their “opinions” harm other ppl. Just look at this entire thread where the very presence of a positive, open lesbian relationship in the forefront (cause those are a dime a dozen nowadays, right?) begets calls for their relationship to be hidden away like a dirty secret, their outright removal, death of one of the characters (cause lgbt couples shouldn’t stay alive), or turning one of them to the opposite gender so we can have a “morally approved” “normal” straight relationship. Basically for many of these ppl the very existance of these characters is an insult, a mistake to be corrected. But don’t forget that their opinions affect their real life behaviour as well, furthering bigotry in real life, causing real harm.

Also gay people don’t live a “gay lifestyle” in the way your son/daughter might suddenly decide to dress as a goth or listen to dubstep or whatever; we’re not talking about a hobby or a whim, we’re talking about very real lives and the people they love and choose to be intimate with, which mind you, is quite a big part of the human experience.

When you stop thinking of it as a “gay lifestyle” and start seeing it for what it is: people who are being unjustly judged and discriminated against based on who they love maybe you’ll understand why some ppl fight against this tooth and nail.

I’m not interested in their preferences, they’re not in mine. They don’t make love in front of us, because who cares? Both of us know our culture and traditions, know how we were raised by parents.
Back to my point. If you’re homosexual, why do you bother informing whole world about that? What’s special in it?
I tolerate homosexuals and have nothing against them, but I won’t stand their preferences being promoted as “cool”. It’s not needed.

Please drop the “i have gay friends” preface. For your problem with the existance of a positive, visible lesbian relationship i’ll qoute mr. David Gaider, senior writer from Bioware who got to answer a few eerilly similar questions on his tumblr:

“It’s at those points I have to remind myself of the truth: there are people out there for whom the presence of any gay content will automatically render it “the gay game”. The presence of two bisexual male followers in Dragon Age 2, only one of whom made advances on a male player without first being flirted with, means “every man in Thedas is gay and wants my man-meat”. These are the same people for whom the mere existence of a gay character, or a plot that deals with gay subject matter, really anything that forces them to acknowledge that homosexuality so much as exists, is going to be a personal insult. I remind myself that it’s not that much to include, and really it’s very little in comparison to the entire rest of the game…and thus, considering what it means to those fans who receive that validation almost nowhere else, it’s not too much to demand a bit of tolerance and compassion from the portion of the audience for whom this content is not even intended.”

“thank you for letting me know how affecting it was for you to have a game where you could be yourself. We make roleplaying games, which means that the character you play doesn’t have to be yourself, but I believe there’s an element where having a game acknowledge that you exist can be validating in a way most people never consider—no doubt because they have no need for validation, and thus no knowledge as to what the lack of it can do to someone”

As for real life, representation matters because in much of the rest of the world being LGBT is a big problem. Because in many parts of the world being LGBT can get you discriminated in the most horiffic ways with no safety blanket in sight. Because by coming out, you become visible, you fight against the dehumanization of the bigotry, you put a face on the discrimination perpetuated, a real face that can be recognized, understood and simpathized with, instead of treated like a difference of opinions or a simple political debate. You don’t allow the harm to be sweeped under the rug.

Also not being tolerat of bigotry is not intolerance (aimed at the rest of the thread). I’m really sorry but i will not be tolerant to “views” and “opinions” that validate discrimination on basis of religion, ethnicity, race, sexuality or gender representaion.

I have a question, why the hell does it matter either way? Would Jory or Kas being male change the story in any way?

For me: yes. I would have never seen the end of the story, cause I would have probably thrown up and put down the game.

When that happens, mail me your items plox.

Let’s hope it won’t.

Speak for yourself dude I’d like to see that.
