Why GW2 just isn't working

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Allelya.6830

Allelya.6830

Well isn’t that interesting. See I’m a casual player too, and it’s most definitely geared for me.

Admittedly I don’t like how the trait system was redesigned, I don’t love ascended gear (but you don’t need it to do anything casual anyway) and I think the temporary content was a mistake, but for the rest of it…

I like the collections.
I like the new crafting improvements.
I like the new zone…Dry Top is my favorite zone in the game.
I adore the mega server.
I enjoy Guild Missions (particularly puzzles and rushes)
I love the new living story stuff (which isn’t temporary anymore)
I’m really enjoying the NPE.

Seems not all casual players are going to feel the same about stuff.

This. EXCEPT Dry Top. I don’t really like much of the jumping puzzles because I want fun, not frustration/aggravation.

It originated on release date. It’s not like this train of thought is new. :p

People are always going to complain about “no endgame”, because (for starters) GW2 isn’t a traditional MMO in a lot of ways. Also, the discussion on what constitutes “endgame” itself is HIGHLY debatable. There are tons of “standard” MMO’s where the player base still complains about lack of endgame.

You’re always going to have people complaining like this, because you’re always going to have people that want something better or expect something else. Sadly, people just don’t know how to find a game that suits their tastes. They’d rather have a game they’re familiar with changed and shoehorned into a model they think is “correct” for what they want.

I don’t want end-game anymore, I want more stuff. Two years and now we have dry, tasteless Living Story about two lesbians worrying more about each other than about Tyria.

Can us charrs get some art dept love?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Allelya.6830

Allelya.6830

I don’t know why you think those problems are specific to Charr. They’re not. Most helms make chars bald. My Asura’s toes and ears poke through shoes and helms. Her wings and weapons now float a far distance from her back when wearing the new costume (that I paid good money for). The wings are lopsided on top of that, they tilt to the right.

It’s not just Charr. It’s all char.

Didnt say it was only charr.

Title: Can us charrs get some art dept love?
Subject: There are not many options that look good on charrs, since this game is all about cosmetics, can we get some decent cosmetics?
Here’s an example (top image is original armor fitting, bottom is my version): (picture shown is of a Charr).

Says nothing about other races and I left my mind reading cap off when reading your post so I didn’t know that Charr meant Charr, Asura, human, Sylvari and Norn.

My bad.

Every time I see your posts, Astral, you try to negate anything anyone says; be it opinion or whatnot. You come off as a forum troll to me. Could you stop please?

Suggestion/Idea: Choice Maps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Allelya.6830

Allelya.6830

Would it be difficult to allow us to choose a map to go to? I’m not referring to zone, I’m referring to population maps. For example, I’m seeing a lot of people who choose to farm events that you can fail and get better rewards on second part. There are others who are trying to complete something else in the same map, making the “farmers” upset and telling the person to get out, as well as calling them names.

Since there seems to be no “fix” for the people who choose to fail events to get other items and hate on those who choose to play a different way, would it be difficult to program/make different maps for us to choose to switch to? An example is what I seen in my VERY short time playing Tera.

This is just an idea, wasn’t sure if it would doable by programmers for ANet.

Something I forgot to add yesterday is about the Heart completions. When you’re in an area, it can be hard to tell where the area is that you need for the heart. Someone on Reddit said it best:

“Improve the questing system. I have been playing since beta, and have leveled countless characters to max level, and I still get confused when completing Hearts. I am constantly in and out of the area i’m supposed to be completing the quest in. It seems logical to kill Bandits at the Bandit Camp, but wait! This camp where 90% of the bandits are isn’t in the designated area. Add a border around where we are supposed to be completing quests. You want to help new players and veterans alike, this is a complaint I have heard from both parties for two years now.”

So make some shaded area on the mini-map that shows us where the objective is for the Heart. Too many times, I’ve killed what was seemingly for the Heart completion only to realize I was JUST OUTSIDE the area to get credit for it.

PvE Ranger: So How Are They Now?

Just as the title asks. How are Rangers with the new tweaks? Used to be a mob just looks at my pet and it dies. And dmg was subpar making Ranger the joke of a class (which might have a bit to do with bots too, not sure).

Is Ranger considered the “scrub” class? Can they actually put out damage now? I really don’t care about WvW/PvP. I just want to know what people think of the new changes to Ranger in PvE.

“Points of Interest (level 7)
Gathering Nodes (Level 9) – Nodes may have been removed in areas before this level. No there is no potato famine there is plenty of potato in Metrica Province.
Vista (level 10)”

These help you level. They shouldn’t have been removed at all. This is 2014, most players coming to Guild Wars 2 already have a strong grip on the basics of an MMO (leveling, gathering, professions, etc).

We need more guilds like mine offering help to new players in exploration and other things that GW2 offers that you don’t find in other MMOs.

Talk about a storm in a tea cup. We’re talking about the first ten levels, which you now pass in about an hour. I think people need a bit more perspective.

Even if it’s two hours, in the life of your character, is should represent pretty much nothing.

Are we really complaining that we can’t get some potatos at low levels now?

Post your opinion that a game mechanic shouldn’t have been removed (regardless of WHAT LEVEL) and suddenly everyone wants to attack you over it. It’s my opinion. I’m entitled to it. I don’t give a rat’s kitten if you don’t agree with it.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Allelya.6830

Allelya.6830

OK, looks like paragraphs are too hard to understand. I’m going to demonstrate this trait unlock nonsense into simple conversation between veteran player and new player. New player is very casual, and play only on weekend for 3 hours each. He currently has 20g in his wallet.

Vet player: Hey what build are you running?

New player: oh, it’s 6/6/1/0/0

Vet: oh that old (blah) build. You should try the new 0/0/1/6/6 meta build. It’s really good!!

New: Ah ok, brb unlocking traits.

(ONE MONTH LATER)

New: yay, I finally got the traits for new meta!

Vet: Hey, long time no see. We are now playing 0/6/6/1/0. It’s newest meta build. You should try it! It’s amazing!

New: ………..How long did it took for you to unlock all traits T_T?

Vet: Oh, all of them were available and free to swap as we level before the feature pack.

New: ………..Sorry, I gotta go now cya later.

(New player uninstalls GW2)

I hope you can understand how bad all these are. The part that truly demolished the new player is knowing that he got ripped off by this change because he did not join the game earlier.

Yeah, while I enjoy the game I don’t know if I could recommend it to any of my friends in its current state. New players just have so much grinding to do now before they can reasonably keep up with vets.

One thing I don’t think arenanet considered is how this affects new players going into wvw and dungeons. The trait changes seriously weaken low level players and its painful to try WvW pre80 now. Or to hop into dungeons at 35. These changes make it much harder to group up with my friends and have them fairly contribute.

Hop into dungeons at 35? Who does that? No one. Since I started playing this game, it’s level 80 or get out of my party. The trait system and dungeon mechanics relating to the traits and class abilities available at individual dungeon levels all needs a serious fix.

Allelya.6830

I would like to revise my original post here on the new 1-15 leveling experience. I have leveled three characters in two zones to level 15+ now, with personal story to see the changes.

For human zone, it doesn’t appear any faster.
Original version: I’m just into level 4 before I hit the level 5 Heart area.
New version: I’m maybe halfway through level 4 when I hit the level 5 Heart area. Needs to be bumped up a bit.

For Sylvari and Asuran zones, much faster.
The Hearts and layout is much more simplified, which is a good thing. Heart completion and even Personal Story are more guided; as someone who likes things more linear than not, I like this. I actually felt like I was helping out the people of the area, rather than just doing stuff to get the heart filled. The hearts filled faster which is a very nice change, imo.

I wouldn’t have removed nodes or collection tool vendors, nor Trading Post vendors. Since farming nodes contributes to experience, they should have that option available to them at level 1 so they can see the benefit. When they’ve collected a lot of stuff, maybe guide them to a Trading Post window to buy more bags.

I would like to see more encouragement to new players to level their characters traditionally by completing hearts/zones. Crafting makes things fast, yes but you don’t learn much that way about your class. Weapon skills, traits, combo fields- all that needs to be learned as you level, one step at a time.

I like the new simplified, guided version and would like to see it implemented to other zones past level 15. I also like that the leveling is faster (more exp) and I think that should be implemented too. I still think traits should be brought back to level 10/11, if but a little at a time.

Kicked from low population map?

Draknar, and what about every single event on Cursed Shore? The whole zone is packed to the brim. Every single event is filled with players as soon as it’s up. Much more players than it’s needed to finish it.

Yes Cursed Shore events are a different story, but it is level 80, the majority of players are level 80, you would expect to see a congregation of level 80 players there versus the other zones.

See, the OP and many others who posted were not specific in what they were unhappy about. All I read was “we hate zerg”. Bosses need to be up more often and we need more maps, period.

Kicked from low population map?

Allelya.6830

Again, I apologise for the rant, but that was/is the result of a feeling that’s been crepping in me more and more as this changes have been added to the game.

A lot of changes makes me feel like I’m being thrown around, and I don’t have a choice anymore. Maybe I liked being on a specific server or location because it was fun to be with people you recognized even if you were not part of their guild or whatever.

Now we’re just being thrown around, by the megaserver and even if you and your friends are having a good time in a map, you’ll be thrown into another map because we’re not filling it to the soft cap.

The lack of choice is what hurts. Not the fact of being with people in itself, but the fact that the system as it is, leaves me and many others with no possibility of doing something in peace.
We have to be with other 50 random strangers or it’s not fun says Anet.
And I can’t help but to disagree with that mentality.

Stop trying to make the game soloable! It’s not a solo game! You can solo your way around World of Warcraft, sure. But this game has many things shared and being with other players to accomplish the same goals/objectives. IT’S AN MMO!

Allelya.6830

I hope they remove this? Just because, you know. Maybe people were doing stuff on that server? Maybe they were just RPing with friends.

Or maybe because the very idea is stupid. The megaservers are already in place, we will be automaticaly place with other players no matter what, even guild or friends list barely matter. We’ll just all go to the kiddy pool. You know, roll over kitten as a massive zerg, hitting people with 1.

BECAUSE THAT’S FUN! Good god, will you just stop? STOP. Stop forcefully mixing players when they don’t want. Stop thinking your way is the only way to enjoy a mmo, stop turning this game in massive, zerg fest, 20 fps.

First the megaservers, the change to the loot, the change to the PS, the changes to the lvl 1-15 zones. And now this?
How more pointless can this game become?

I’m sorry for yet another angry rant, but as Matt Visual said “Maybe some one at Anet should stop making suggestions. And take a long vacations.”

I have never been to a map that was a “zergfest”. Every map I’ve been on has been moderately populated. GW2 has the mechanics to not solo everything you come across. There is supposed to be teamwork; hence why we share in nearly everything (nodes, exp from mobs we hit, etc)

If you would be happier playing all alone on a map, then maybe GW2 isn’t for you.

I like the option of moving to a more populated map as I like having people around to help with events. I don’t know what fostered this desire to fail an event but it seems rather silly.

The only thing I don’t like is 80s throttling everything before you get a chance to get off even one hit on something to get adequate credit for participating.

This post will probably be lost in this thread but at least I can say I got it out there. The biggest problem with this game is that they made level 80 the top level AT RELEASE. They should have made top level at 60 at release, with dungeons and professions ending in that area to match. They should have made more items “right of passage” and “grind dungeon x number of times” to get this item, etc. instead of “GOT CASH?” gem store everything. Then they could have released more zones, more levels and more professions and dungeons as time went by, thereby stretching things out and keeping players working on things AND STILL PLAYING.

Instead, here we are, still at level 80 over 2 years later. Nothing really “new” added except a small new depressing zone with a lame, distasteful story to match.

Anyone notice how many subscriptions Blizzard has lost since not listening to THEIR PLAYERS? Millions upon millions. ANet is headed down the exact same road.

Gaming companies do what they want > players stop playing > game dies.

You have 5 main abilities and other are unlocked every 10 levels or so. That’s not being inundated. Try playing games like World of Warcraft where you have so much ability bloat you can’t tell if you’re coming or going.

The other 5 abilities are passives or cooldowns to be used at your leisure. They did it right with the abilities in this game and I for one like having them at my disposal at a low level.

You might not get a response from Anet, but they do read the forums and will act on genuinely good ideas and valid concerns (the most recent example being the changes made to the new player experience after everyone complained).

For background, I’m a casual/completionist type of gamer. I have played numerous MMOs (ones that were PvE driven and even ones that were PvP driven) for many years, so I have a nice bit of experience to base my opinion/feedback on with GW2. I never played GW1, so I won’t be comparing anything to it. All of this is specifically GW2 related.

Topic: Leveling
Leveling is fundamental to this game. There is so much to explore and do and that to me is a very positive aspect of the game. With the rich, colorful details in graphics, animations of characters who actually use their weapons (i.e. staves don’t just hang on your back!) and the immersive lore you have created, to me this game is top notch.

However, you began this game with player levels ending at 80. That’s a lot of levels to get through, especially since dungeons aren’t available to us until at least 30-35. With the implementation of the new leveling system, I have to say it’s not a good change. Not to me anyway. It’s not any faster to level 15. I feel like too much is being gated away from me.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for “right of passage” content, but if too much is being gated, I’ll lose interest and not want to bother. Especially if it was purposely set to require I either suffer to it or pay real life cash for gems/gold to get to it (ie gold to level crafting to level my char)

Story:
I don’t like that my personal story is withheld till level 10. It was better at level 3. You get to experience right away how much of a hero you are. One of the biggest parts of this game is the story, be it personal or living. We already can’t do the living part till 80, so why keep personal away from us til 10?

Traits:
I also don’t like that traits are now gated AND not available till level 30. I like the gating of them behind a certain mob kill completion with the option to buy now with gold. However, I think it’d be better if they were still available at level 10/11. With leveling being as slow as it is, I feel like it’s forever before I get my first trait. I don’t feel like I’m working towards anything.

To me, this game is casual. I can leave at any time and I won’t be “behind” in anything. I can pick up where I left off and be right with other players. I have noticed that RNG has become even more RNG and less loot is dropping. I used to get a lot of trash and things to salvage but now it feels like it’s been cut down by more than half.

A gaming company that maintains a F2P game has to make money, I get that, I really do. But if too many things about the game are gated behind buying gems/gold, then I (and I’m sure numerous others) will not want to play and won’t spend any money on the game.

Many say that ArenaNet doesn’t really listen to players; some websites other than these forums are rampant with players not happy with ArenaNet and the changes to GW2. I hope maybe my post will be read and taken into consideration.

I apologize in advance if some of you do not agree with me. That is why this is MY feedback.

As one final thing for me to add, all this negative talk against “gear treadmill” of WoW… at least the RNG in WoW isn’t as bad as this game. @Tanef:
You say that “everyone” wants endgame content.
However, you are not “everyone”, and what you want is not what “everyone” wants.

Guild Wars 2 was designed such that you can play all aspects of the game as early as possible. Attaining maximum level is not some kind of “entry pass” for the “really cool stuff”. No, all the cool stuff was already available to you, and you can keep doing that. Instead, you could go for stretch goals (such as world completion, ascended and legendary gear, PvP achievements, new cosmetic skins).
On top of that, ArenaNet continuously develops and adds to the game world. so that more things to do keep springing up. The Living World Season 2 is a good example.

However, if you want a game where the “fun parts” are only available to those players who have slogged through all the rest of the game (let’s call these the “unfun parts”), then Guild Wars 2 is not for you. Because Guild Wars 2 is not designed to have “unfun parts”.

You cannot play all aspects of the game “as early as possible”. We can’t touch traits till 30 and now we have to either pony up the gold to buy them or go complete some achievement/kill to get them. You can only get one dungeon at level 30 (STORY MODE ONLY) and even then.. NO ONE goes in dungeons AT level. Everyone goes in at 80, in exotic or better gear. Period. If you even ATTEMPT to go into a dungeon for your level, you’ll likely be kicked. Bad design is bad.

Allelya.6830

I’ve been playing for about two years now and I’d agree that there isn’t enough end-game content. Sure they may have stated that this game was meant for casual players but they also stated that they wanted to avoid a grind experience in the game and look how well they stuck to that philosophy. From the GW wiki let’s take a look at a good argument for more content:

April 28, 2005 is when GW Prophecies came out.
April 28, 2006 is when GW Factions came out.
October 27, 2006 is when GW Nightfall came out.
August 31st, 2007 is when GW EotN came out.
August 28, 2012 is when GW2 came out.

It is now August 30, 2014 and we have had hardly any new and exciting content and there is no sure sign of expansions. Guild Wars 2 has a steady player base and the developers have stated that they are always working on new content for the game.

So what is this content? We’re nearing the point at which GW2 has remained fairly unchanged in the time all of GW1 (and all of its expansions)came out. Living Story, in my opinion, is hardly new content as it has released hardly any new map content, simply reused old places and added way too much on cliche npcs written like a fan-fiction novel more than GW lore. Factions and Nightfall brought new and fresh ideas to the GW lore and LS is trying way too hard to sell itself perhaps as an attempt to get players involved.

Maybe they have been working on expansion, which would be understandable if one pairs their lack of consistent new content with their apparent constant content development. Once again in my opinion, I really do feel they should stop releasing stale content and start consistently releasing new things that people could actually agree on as legitimate new content.

It’s not so much a feeling of entitlement as it is expecting the developers to stick to their own standards of content releasing that they set long before GW2 ever came out. GW2 has been amazingly successful and it’s really sad that it’s been relatively stagnant all this time. Agree or disagree, those are my opinions on the matter. OP has some legitimate reason to be upset.

This.

If there’s no need for “end game content” and there’s no progression technically… what does the casual player do with this MMO once he has done everything? This isn’t a single-player, conquerable type game. It’s an MMO, meant to go on and on. The current Living Story is lame and tasteless and I’m not the only one who feels this way. When ANet says they listen to the players, I wish they’d not just listen to the fanboys.

Because while fixing bugs does help, changing things about peoples characters makes them look at their character and thus keeps them playing.

Oh my bad! Here I thought it was the useless outfits they keep putting in the gem store and the lame living story they keep adding every few weeks.

Things that get your character killed repeatedly for no reason I guess is just NO BIG DEAL

Bad Priority List ANet?

All these class changes, some of which players are cheering, yet no bug fixes?

I still die just running down a normal hill… a bug that’s been in the game since…. TOO LONG.

So what’s your priority list, ANet? Why can’t you fix these bugs but you can change classes?

Wait.. is this Blizzard? Only making class changes that suit PvP and not PvE? Oh, it’s ANet… please don’t go down that road.

That’s what happens when Anet tries to shoehorn instanced content into an open world setting.

Uh… dungeons say hi. This happens in instanced content as well.

Make it instanced, requiring 15-25 people. Problem solved.

The “solution” is to not have open-world bosses anymore?

If it makes it harder because of other players inhabiting the zone doing other activities, then yes. ANet isn’t going to want to change the mechanics of the fight.

This game’s directed toward casuals and the best way to make the most of it is to play it casually.

I mostly agree with this but I feel the OP still have a valid point with the RNG of drops… it’s not rewarding. What will casuals like me do once we’ve done a full map completion, all achievement boxes, etc? Because I also am not entertained by the new Living Story.

There was a thread on this but I cannot locate it.

Is this considered an exploit if you purposely fail an event to get champs?

So why do people keep saying CLAN?

We aren’t trolls or orcs…

We aren’t playing Clan Wars…

We’re in guilds.

Who started this clan stuff? I wanna bonk them on the nose.

I believe someone said it best when they said GW2 is more for the leisurely/casual player. Not really for someone who hardcore/no-life games all day every day. (not saying that to be negative).

As a casual and farmer myself, I admire the work put into every zone on landscape, random NPC commentary, and events.

However, I’m not to keen on the Living Story though. I find it boring and am tired of seeing the kissy-facing commentary. I also don’t like the new zones/quests in it- they feel dismal and empty.

End-game content for me would be to add more zones similar to what the game started with (in terms of graphics, events, etc) and a couple of dungeons and a few more levels. I think that just adding a tiny piece of nothing with a boring story isn’t really enough. Not for me anyway.

When Marjory/Kasmeer are talking to eachother

in Living World

it just breaks the tension of the game, we are hunting down a deadly murderer and these two are just going on about how much they love each other. Anet sure know how to turn two potentially interesting characters into two obnoxious characters.

Except what you are saying simply isn’t true.

If you look at the dialogue from Cornered, the story instance where we are chasing the murderer you will see not a single piece of their dialogue is directed towards each other. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cornered#Dialogues

And from the other story instances we are looking at one brief conversation in Fallen Hopes which amounts to Marjory saying “I’m okay now so no need to worry about me” and a couple of lines of dialogue in the first instance where Kasmeer is being overly protective and offering to take Marjory’s watch. The word Love isn’t mentioned once that I can recall.

This is why a lot of people criticizing the Marjory/Kasmeer relationship are called homophobic because they rely on blatant misrepresentations of the storyline to prove their points, which is usually the tactics of those with ulterior motives.

Kasmeer “Listen. I’m sorry about how I’ve been acting. I just can’t stand the thought of you getting hurt again. That scared the fluff out of me.”
Marjory “I know, honey. I’ve felt the same way about you. But you convinced me that you can handle yourself. Now, let me convince you.”

Its that kind of stuff I find nauseating. I thinking, omg lets just keep going shall we, you can both apologize about each others mood swings later.

This x1000. Please stop THROWING it in my face that they are in love. WE GET IT. Progress the story without the mush.

Wasn’t sure how to word the title. So I’ll explain it here. Is there something in the works to make it so no matter what server you are on, you’ll be able to benefit from guild perks? (banners, influence, etc)

As it stands, we can only benefit from the influence we build in a guild on our own server, if we’re not on the server the guild is hosted. Someone told me that there was a change in the works for this.

Anyone know if it’s true?

LF Guild on Gate of Madness-UPDATED

Allelya.6830

Wanted to update my post to add that I’d like to join a guild that does PvE casual stuff.

Zone completions
Events (within zones, not just Boss Blitz)
Casual Dungeon Runs (not speed/run through)
I would like to see a dungeon on story mode to experience the conversations, and such. I wonder if there is a way to down bosses without stacking/hiding in corners to where all you see if the silhouette of your character’s face graphics.
