Run disk defragmenter since you might be in need to do so. Turn off your security software while you re-attempt a repair. That might be getting in the way.
They have been allowing players to buy a legitimate serial number from the official online store and then add it to the banned game account.
Ask for this in your support ticket.

I’m afraid you’ll need to work on the tokens again. This has happened to others too. In places like the TP it’s also easy to do a mistake on what you’re getting.
GW1 has a filter that only allows you to see the armor you can wear. I hope they implement something like this quickly.
Since you’re waiting for an answer for three days now, post your ticket number in the following thread:
Gaile will be able to take a look at the ticket during work hours.

Hi Reinth.
ArenaNet/NCsoft won’t ban you just because you’re playing from China. Not all gold sellers are in China but admittedly there’s a bad rep from this part of the globe when it comes to this. Your tone comes out a little discriminative towards Chinese citizens. I work in China, I’m not Chinese, but netizens who play online games that were born and live here are surely not all doing RMT.
I’m with ArenaNet for more than 7 years now, and most of that time I’ve been playing from China. I was inadvertently banned some times but I’ve always been able to get my account back. Bans usually happened to me when there was a big change in staff policing NCsoft games (I keep asking them to add a field in their database so that there’s a mention about specific players to new staff). I haven’t been banned in GW2 so far (it wasn’t that frequent in GW1 anyway) and I hope it continues that way.
Here’s what I do to keep myself out of trouble:
- Be careful with third-party software you may use.
- Don’t place your characters in auto-attack while you’re afk.
- Don’t create a macro in your gaming keyboard that would allow many different skills to be activated in one go.
- Don’t keep changing proxy servers too much and too fast.
- Don’t join a farming crowd that might be made out of bots (same profession, with names like “jkjkj”, and doing the same area over and over again).
- Don’t obsessively farm the same area for a long period of time since you might be mistaken as a bot.
- Don’t trade with gold sellers, don’t contact them for any reason, and report any mail you get from them.
- Don’t take advantage of exploits and report any you may find.
- Don’t grief other players.
- Don’t swear or type inappropriate remarks.
- Don’t create characters with inappropriate names.
- Don’t keep ignoring a whisper or a direct communication to you.
- Join a good guild.
- Be polite to support if you actually get banned.
Cheers.

Glad you got your account back!
“At your own risk” is just a way for them to protect themselves in case the player has problems with the third-party program they’re using. If GW2 crashes because of the third-party software or if your game account got hacked by using a third-party software, they can’t be held responsible.
I got pleasantly surprised with the GM response since it’s not usually that simple for them to give us a straight answer. Just don’t keep changing proxy servers too quickly and you should be ok.
Gaile Gray is the support liaison and she’s usually the one providing further assistance with these issues. I believe she doesn’t work on weekends but she does respond quickly during work hours.
The keys are just waiting at the store for us to stupidly buy them at a ridiculous price. Have you read the horrid stories of players spending hundred of dollars in keys looking to get permanent items or rare skins? What they got was a lot of “junk” that’s not even account bound, occupying space at the bank.
I detested the concept from the get go. I came to the point of deleting a BLC every time I get one. It’s a ridiculous cash grab and I want nothing to do with it.

Wow. Really bad karma. How long does a chargeback usually take to clear up? :/
Oh, I know. It’s just that forums are always limited with communication. Just wanted to make sure. Cheers.
Glad I could help.
The address helps establish that you are the correct owner since that’s something they already have in their database.
By the way, they only need the last 4 digits of your credit card if you had purchased with them. In the future, and for your own safety, don’t post all the numbers of your credit card.
I’m sorry for what happened. I understand your distress as I have been under similar circumstances.
Here are instructions on how to submit a ticket to support:

Here’s a thread with players in the same situation as you:

If after three working days you haven’t got an answer, post your support ticket in this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Tickets-for-Review-3-days-and-older-merged/page/47#post682483
Try to communicate with support in a calm manner. I’m sure you’ll get your account back.
Well, they probably have other ways to establish that you are the correct game owner.
If you haven’t done so, explain that you formatted the hard drive to make sure you didn’t have a keylogger or trojan and because of that the email with the serial code in now gone.
Add to your ticket:
- The address, email and phone number you used when registering.
- Your correspondence with Paypal since that is connected with you current problem.
- All the character names, profession and levels you have in the account (from what you can remember).
Good luck!
They’re likely asking for your serial number to establish that you are the correct owner of the game.
In similar cases they have allowed the player to buy a new serial number from their online shop and then add the legal serial number to the game account. I suggest you to ask the same.
Also, since German is your mother tongue, there’s a German version of this forum as well.
Either Singapore and Panama access the game through the US data center. That shouldn’t be a problem but you never know. They really should have a “gift to friend” option in their online shop.
I think it’s best for you to open a ticket with support. You’re sure to get an official answer there.
Try to login. There has been reports of players being unbanned without notice.
The best place for your grievance is through support. Open a ticket there: support.guildwars2.com and ask for a name change.
Hi. There might’ve been a misunderstanding there. Moderators have to read through a lot of threads and a misread now and then is possible.
I bought a second copy of the game to my wife from the official shop. The process is the same so you should be able to buy another copy to your friend here:
https://buy.guildwars2.com/en/
From your other thread, follow Zaken’s 3 steps to get your friend the game and to help setting it up in a secure way.
However, why not invite your friend to try the game? The invite-a-friend promotion is coming soon and that would benefit both of you.

That was just my opinion on the issue. It doesn’t mean it’s always like that.
I’m sorry to hear you haven’t got an answer yet. Have you posted your ticket number in the thread of tickets longer than 3 days?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Tickets-for-Review-3-days-and-older-merged
You should be getting an answer soon. Good luck!
What… i thought you got into a Queue.. how did you get helped so fast
I’d say it depends on the complexity of a case. Some tickets take longer than others depending on how much they have to investigate. There’s also the human factor to take into consideration. If you write a ticket in anger, the person on the receiving end might not be so inclined to prioritize your ticket.
It is ok to use a proxy like Battleping.
Got an answer from support about this via GM Xionaque.
“*It is not against the rules to use a proxy server to connect to the game*. But doing so is at your own risk. Team speak is also ok but we do not support it on any level. These rules could change at any time, depending on what the proxy server host does or what Team speak does. At this time it is ok to use them.”
I’m more relieved after getting this answer. The proxy server in question is a legally registered company from Australia. That was one of the reasons why I chose Battleping. It wouldn’t be in their interest to do anything that could damage their reputation with players, game companies, and aussie law.
I’d advise anyone to stay clear from a VPN since this kind of service uses strong encryption tools which makes the connection slower. It’s ideal to establish a safe connection for business or to circumvent censorship. But it’s really not recommended for a game because it slows down speed.
A proxy server like Battleping, and others like it, worries only about getting the best route to the game’s data centers and at the lowest latency possible. It’s not perfect. Nearly every day I have to check which server is offering me the lowest ping. That in turn activates the security authentication because I’m tunneling through a different server. From GM Xionaque’s statement, it doesn’t seem that ArenaNet will ban someone for doing this but I wouldn’t want to activate the security authentication too much in a single day since that could raise the alarm.
I hope this helps dispel concerns over the issue.

What the Security Team Coordinator indicated to Gaile is correct when it comes to users already close to the datacenter. It’s also correct that a connection optimizer doesn’t always work for everyone from afar.
However, it’s rather dismissive to state that the “illusion” of improvement is an universal truth and that players who’ve seen an incredible improvement are therefore deluded. I’m sure that Mike Lewis is an awesome expert in game security and overall networking but with IT it’s not that simple to overlook empirical evidence from others if you never experienced it yourself.
If ArenaNet doesn’t like players to use a connection optimizer then that’s really a problem for people like me. I’ve done all I could on my end to optimize my connection but I eventually had to resort to this practice. Maybe ArenaNet should look into data from people who indicate that this service is helping so that they can make statements with solid evidence instead of an opinion.
Given the tremendous boost I’ve got, a connection optimizer is something that ArenaNet should really consider adding as a service. I don’t care who I should be paying 15 USD every 3 months as long as it works. And from other services I looked into, Battleping offers the best well-coded and user-friendly experience.
Anyway, I’ve opened a ticket with support about the use of third-party software such as this one [Incident: 121109-000129]. I’ve already been caught enough times as collateral damage in GW1 and wouldn’t like to repeat the cycle here.
Gaile, it was impossible for me to play WvW or even PVE in high concurrency. I kept getting heavy lag and disconnects. Playing was starting to be an exercise in frustration. Playing GW2 was fine in the beginning but latency has sharply started to increase in more recent times.
Battleping made those problems disappear. That’s not an impression in improvement but a fact in my case. It certainly won’t help players who are already close but it can do a lot to those from far away. I’m in the Middle Kingdom and there are other cases, such as the following, which illustrates similar findings by oceanic players: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/57693-oceanicasian-players-reduce-your-latency-now/
Your statement seems to imply that this service is mostly an illusion and is in the same group as a fully-fledged VPN (though it shouldn’t be); and it’s not desirable because RMT companies use them too. All I can say is that I hope not to get penalized by using a service that has proven to be effective. I don’t want to go back to that feeling of pain rather than fun because of latency.
It works fine for me.
Do you select the option to ‘remember this network’ when you’re in the verification page?
I’m from FA and with [PRO]. I’ve been in some pretty epic fights against YB. Just yesterday we held Stonemist against successive portal bomb attacks from Yak’s. The walls were breached and the inner keep was all that remained. We kept rebuilding our defences after each attack. Portal bombing lasted for about an hour but we held our ground. It’s been great fun.
I really like the concept of multi guilds but there’s definitely the need for more in game options for guilds to organize and manage their members.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the ban hammer is in full force for bots and gold sellers at the moment. You’re likely collateral damage. :/
I know how annoying it can be. Just be patient and answer whatever questions they may ask of you. Post your ticket here too so that Anet staff can take a look at it.
Good luck!
As mentioned before, your problem might not be related with Battleping as many people use this solution with GW2 and many other MMOs.
As for what you should add to your ticket, the sticky already provides good information on what you need:
You can expedite the help that you receive by providing certain details when you contact the team, such as the following:
Your GW2 Username
Your serial code
A character name, if any
A detailed description of the issue that you’re experiencing
Any error code that you are getting
Go to your ticket at support.guildwars2.com and select ’I no longer require an answer".
You’ll be able to get your account back as long as you’re proven to be a legitimate user. I got perma banned once because a gold seller happened to be using the same IP range as me.
After contacting support and providing them with information I got my account back.
I use Batlleping and that’s an excellent solution that optimizes access to game servers from afar. I couldn’t play a good chunk of the game without it. I didn’t get banned so far and I trust it won’t happen.
A VPN is different from services like Battleping as they minimize latency without the encryption methods of a VPN provider.

@OP In my previous post I was generally speaking on what makes me not want to be in a guild.
As long as a guild is dynamic and has a steady flow of activities, multi-guilding shouldn’t be that much of an issue since the player would have little reason to not represent.
However, I personally wouldn’t find comfortable to be in a guild that has too many rules, but that’s really a matter of preference. Guilds should strive to find people that are comfortable to be in them and not take too personally players who decide to leave or simply don’t care.
I feel that multi-guilding is an added bonus for players and an incentive for guilds to be more active. It hasn’t stopped guilds to thrive and get really big. It has also given the opportunity for players to try out smaller guilds and those guilds to benefit from their patronage/representation.
We have a reasonable large guild, with about 150 members… (…) we are not against multi-guilding. Our only request is that when someone is doing something with us, that they keep our guild represented.
But we don’t spam chat channels for new members or things like that. We never worried about numbers. We had a set rule of only accepting people who knew someone from our initial core of players at the beginning or friends of friends of that same core after.
I believe the tool is good, and you can’t blame it for the people who misuse it.
I agree with this. I like the freedom of multi-guilding. It’s reasonable for the player to represent the guild they’re playing with at a given moment but it’s not reasonable in my view for a guild to demand representation at all times from players.
It also depends on guilds to keep players interested. I’m certainly not going to be in a guild that does little communication and activities or one that demands exclusivity.
It’s also good for new players to get to experience having their own guild while being in a bigger one.
Yeah, it only works when you have “Kill Zhaitan” active in your personal story.
Risingashes, this is what I stated: "Strictly considering special activities, jumping puzzles can’t be the only benchmark for this type of high level reward. "
The clock tower has been, for better or worse, the main attraction of this festival. It’s not my type of activity but I was willing to give it a shot. Unfortunately, I can’t do it because I’m too far from the datacenter and my connection lags too much with that many players together in a timed event.
My argument is that I would like to see more variety in puzzles which does not have jumping as the main attraction. It’s unfortunate that they didn’t deem the personal story adequate for an exotic but looking at the future, I’d like other lag-friendly activities that are special and with high end rewards.
hmm would of been nice if the reward was an exotic with a choice of stats
I agree. That would’ve been excellent. :/
Reaper’s and Lunatic are PVP and Scavenger a PVE activity. I enjoyed doing them and I’m still working on pumpkin carving. They go well with the festival and are additions made from a fairly standard MMO template.
As for the novelty of jumping puzzles, I don’t like them that much. I try to do them because of the rewards they have. It’s more of a chore than fun for me. Are there no other fun novelties they could add to the game?
I’m more concerned on why they are hidden. Titles should be there for everyone to see in the first place. What’s the point in enabling a title if you can’t show them off?
Alice,
I see a lot of work being placed in jumping places. That’s definitely something you don’t see everyday in MMOs and it’s understandable why they’ve been focusing on that; especially when they have designers that can make something like the clock tower. Unfortunately, the execution wasn’t the best. I think I’d be able to do it solo or with less people concurrently connecting to the puzzle but that’s another story.
The point is that jumping puzzles isn’t to everyone’s taste and they shouldn’t be the only novelty that’s cool and challenging being added to the game. That’s the main topic of this thread. You have Xenite in the above post indicating that the goonie ship requires a difficult JP. I think that players less apt at JP would appreciate a break from all of this crazy jumping.
Then there’s this latest upgrade in jumping puzzles giving out a reward more in tune with what I’d like to have gotten in my favorite part of the game. By saying this I’m not feeling like I’m entitled per se. I probably wouldn’t be making this thread if the reward in the clock tower didn’t open a precedent or if we had more cool activities with high end rewards that aren’t jumping puzzles.
Cheers.
Arenanet have made it very clear that their focus is on playing for playings sake. Gear and cosmetic rewards are secondary to that and serve as a complementry system rather than a main gameplay focus in almost every way.
This is a rather dubious philosophy. You say it’s for playing sake but yet there are different different levels in gear and cosmetic designs. Why are they there? Players like this. Doing an activity with a high end reward that a specific type of player is able to get more immediately is hardly a balanced experience. Other activities could be made to give other types of players a chance in getting a high end gear besides the normal methods.
Grumwulf, I value stats more than cosmetics and could later on use a transmutation stone to have a better skin. It’s also easier to get a skin I like than gear with exotic stats. But that’s a fair POV you make and I wholly agree with your opinion regarding the nature of festivals.
(edited by Amon.5042)
Groonz, I’d think too much of one thing spoils the novelty and can increasingly take away interest of the game from players who dislike it. More variety in novelties, like thinking puzzles would be nice to have too.
Hope there isn’t yet another jumping puzzle waiting for us a the event special in Christmas.
Have you created a ticket with support? That’s your best chance for an explanation and a solution to your problem. You won’t get an answer here.
Did I care that I got an exotic better than anything i got from personal story? No. I just look back on the two experiences and remember the fun I had doing them.
Congrats on finishing that challenge.
I wish I could have a chance in trying but latency doesn’t allow it. It’s not my type of activity anyway. PVE and RPG are areas that I care about the most. I certainly remember the fun I had with the PS when I finished. Now there’s the disappointment in seeing a “cool” reward I’d like to have gotten in the end story that’s being added to an one-time event I’m unable to participate.
I certainly hope that jumping puzzles aren’t the new standard in challenging additions to GW2, where the high end rewards are placed.
Sirevanac, I get what you’re saying.
I just think that the scale of this one activity wouldn’t merit the kind of reward they’re giving. Or if it does merit, then the PS with a much greater scope should’ve had something similar.
The game engine doesn’t seem to be the best for jumping puzzles but it’s doable with vistas, being a matter of time and patience.
This Halloween seem to have brought an escalation in importance for this type of activity. The Clock Tower is a good event for players apt at jumping puzzles but an aggravating one for those who aren’t. A few have been able to do this in a matter of a few hours (or less) while it took a substantial amount of time for others, or not at all. Lag made it not possible for me to do it.
Besides that, what caught my attention in this puzzle was the end reward. It seems unfair that it offers an exotic item after a couple of hours of effort to some players. Whereas the Personal Story, which took a great deal of time and effort to finish, and despite the expectations of some players (me included), offered no exotic item.
With all due respect that ArenaNet developers earned with their fantastic work, I ask this: are the RPG elements of GW2 less important than a puzzle? If the maximum reward at the end of the PS is a rare item, shouldn’t the clock tower puzzle have had the same level of reward?
Strictly considering special activities, jumping puzzles can’t be the only benchmark for this type of high level reward. It would be nice to see a special activity in PVE involving actual thinking puzzles and where players could get a similar prize, given enough time and effort. Something that wouldn’t cross the line from challenging to frustrating (too much).
Note to moderators: If this is not considered relevant to the community, just let me know and I’ll take this subject elsewhere.
Can’t see where I’m jumping and it’s timed. It’s not fun, it’s aggravating. This is the kind of experience that makes me want skip the holiday event altogether.
What token are you guys talking about? I have two characters with the personal story already finished and I got no “token”.
EDIT: Just checked the inbox of those characters and got the tokens.
(edited by Amon.5042)
With store skins, only one use and only one character is a complete and utter waste of money. I’d feel rather stupid if I’d waste my money like that.
When I buy digital in a game I look for usefulness and/or fair price. First thing I did with gems was to get full bank storage. I’m not getting character storage because that isn’t refunded if a char is deleted. Don’t think that’s fair.
Don’t buy dyes since they’re purely cosmetic and therefore a waste of real hard-earned money.
Don’t buy mini pets because they serve no useful purpose. Mounts on the other hand…
Also, the introduction of gambling by way of black lion chests is going too far. That’s a cheap way to add revenue as the house always wins. Not only that but the keys are expensive. Makes me wonder what kind of (gullible) consumer Anet is aiming for.
