Your thoughts about Orr

I hope we get another lvl 80 area, less frustrating than Orr and with more variety in monsters. I can’t even get the kill variety achievement since they are all “Risen”.

I’m now taking my time playing other characters and hoping that when I get to level 80 again, the experience will be more worthwhile. It’s really fun to play GW2 PVE until you get to 80 and the personal story is done. Then the toon becomes a PVE chore and a wasteful PVE gold sink to play with.

Giants spawning unlimited waves of grubs is a pretty lame game mechanic. It should’ve been limited in the first place.

That fight was awesome… so no.

I love the complaining about this… it’s just so backward.

And wouldn’t it be nice for rangers to have no cooldown for pets, or Mesmers with clones. As soon as they get killed, spawn them again!

Really nice game mechanic…

Shaolin, I have the same error.

It means that your purchase attempts are not being registered in their system because of an unidentified block. This is happening from at least China and Russia, and the problem seems to be from NCsoft’s side.

This is happening to a small number of players. Please open a ticket about this from “support.guildwars2.com” so that they have more reference points to work with.

I got killed once because of this. Was underwater fighting a krait. Its health was one third down and mine was at half. Then all of the sudden he turns around, gets invulnerable and with health getting quickly to full. Since I kept hitting it, the krait turns again IN FULL HEALTH and finishes me. Silly bug…

Why isn't it free to respec traits?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Amon.5042

What I don’t like is that we have to go to a trainer to get the traits respeced.

We don’t need to go to a mailbox to get mail. So why can’t we respec straight from the trait panel? That’s another gold sink on top of a gold sink. Before we respec, pay for the waypoint (and good luck finding the closest trainer) and then pay for the respec. That. Is. Annoying.

Added security: a white list of where we actually play from

Amon.5042

Players have a good security measure that requires authorization by email whenever there’s a login attempt from a new place.

There could be an extra layer added to this. From ‘My Account’, let players choose from a list of countries where they actually play from. Login attempts from countries excluded from that white list are automatically rejected, and players won’t get bothered by emails warning them of those attempts.

If I play from the US, I only get bothered by an authorization email if there’s a new login attempt from within the US. Everything else gets automatically blocked. If I’m a frequent traveler, then it’s better to assign those countries to the white list.

If a player travels to another country and plans to play GW2 from there, they would need to keep in mind to update the white list. Otherwise they would need to contact support if they’re already in a place excluded from the list.

I play from China and, birth pains aside, I’m very happy that they didn’t just block people playing from here, which would only end up hurting real customers.

The creation of a white list would minimize player concerns and give hackers some extra work (where is this stolen email/password combination from?!?) while preserving entry to legitimate players from anywhere.

Changed to 100 character password, can no longer log in.

If you can login here, go to ‘My Account’ and change the password from there. Maybe something shorter but with equal complexity will suffice.

It’s unfortunate that they were unable to have a rollback feature ready on release day. They finally got that working in GW1 and hopefully they’ll have it ready ASAP for GW2. It’s really frustrating to have all your stuff stolen and not able to get it back. I dread to think if that would happen to me after all the effort I already put into the game.

I had someone from China try to log into my acount, the authorization email tipped me off I change password. Kinda worries me, I wish we could just tag our accounts as NEVER TO BE ACCESSED FROM CHINA….NEVER!!!

I mean I will never be in China and play GW2, this I can swear to you. So if someone is logging in from China just block em everytime.

I’m playing from China.

I work here and I just want to have fun and play the game like every other legitimate player. I share your strong dislike for hackers, wherever they may be. But I’m glad they didn’t automatically block players from accessing the game from here. Otherwise gold sellers would just use a VPN to circumvent a simple IP restriction, and only people like me would get hurt.

It seems that in your case the anti-hack system was successful in warning you of that attempt. I hope your account is protected with a complex password.

Maybe ArenaNet can add a manual feature, allowing the players themselves to create a white list of countries they actually play from, and attempts from every other country gets automatically rejected.

I’d very much like to have a one on one trading system similar to GW1. Main trade would still be done trough the TP but this would be an exceedingly convenient complement. There’s no way I’m going to trust a stranger with the prone-to-scams mailing system.

Waypoint costs have to go.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Amon.5042

Amon.5042

They don’t have to go. There should be a cost for that convenience. However, they are EXPENSIVE, especially at higher levels. It’s annoying when I see my hard earned silver quickly fade away when I need to use them.

- I try to get to a vista, fall, die, and need to use the nearest waypoint 5 to 6 times for 1+ silver each time.

- Monsters kill me and the waypoint that’s a few meters from me needs 1+ silver to be used.

- I’m in the middle of nowhere and get killed, so I need to spend money in armor repair PLUS minimum 1+ silver for waypoint travel.

- A friend needs my help in a far away waypoint which takes me about 6 silver for a round trip. That’s not much of an incentive to help out a friend.

- I want to try dungeons. I travel to the first one and no one is there, then try another to see if there’s ppl, and the next… and the next… 8 silver later, what a flipping waste of time and money.

- I need to use the bank or the trade post. I see the map and there’s none in my area. Main cities are too far away but I also have no idea where the nearest one is. There we go… wasting time and money in waypoints figuring out where they are. And if I need to use both? Travel to bank waypont KA-CHING! Travel to trade post waypoint. KA-CHING!

Nope, don’t like the current setup at all. But I’d like it improved, not removed.

I facepalmed when I first saw this stat on the live build of the game. Why would you even put this in a game? It’s clear that everyone’s gonna take it instead of the stats that they should be taking. I’m very disappointed, Anet.

Except there’s no real stats you ‘should’ be taking. All stats work for all specs, 95% of the time.

MF gear / upgrades is considerably weaker in attack and defense bonuses, making the player less effective. That can be the difference between a successful dungeon run, or with other difficult tasks that require a cohesive group.

Thank you for the information you just gave me. I’m taking your word for it. This is another game decision I did not know about. I thought that this was just something to be implemented in the future.

I’m actually not playing their game much at the moment. But I’m hopeful that they can balance player choice with the overprotective stance they’re taking atm. I believe they’re overthinking some of the gameplay features. Players know how to take care of themselves; we don’t need the developer to hold our hands at all times.

Cheers.

That is exactly the reason that ANet did not, and likely will not, include an option to inspect people.

Is GW2 the most politically correct MMO ever? That’s a pretty boring premise. Some choices should simply be up to players without having a kindness and politeness rulebook shoved down our throats.

Adding an inspect feature to view armor and weapons is just common sense. If I’m organizing a PUG, I NEED to have a basis to determine likelihood of success. If I’m a noob, I’d LIKE to know what others are using so that I can get some reference on how to play the game. If I’m told by another player that I’m using the wrong gear for reason A and B, I’d appreciate that because that’s something I learned.

Don’t allow traits to be seen; don’t allow skills to be seen unless the player wishes to. But removing the inspect feature all together because it may hurt players feelings? That’s hilarious.

That is up to the player.

I have an invisible 15-slot bag with my main gear to use it when the occasion arises. I appreciate the extra return with MF in a (so far) restrictive game world with gold sinks nearly outweighing rewards at level 80.

They just need to add an inspect feature so you can kick a player if he refuses to change to a more appropriate gear.

GW2 is Fun-Centric, not Reward-Centric

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Amon.5042

For some people getting rewards is an important part of their fun.

It’s difficult to have fun with little reward. Thinking otherwise is counterproductive, in my view. I’m astonished to realize that this has become my main gripe in GW2 from what seemed so normal from all the games I’ve played until now.

I like to be fairly rewarded for my effort and the time I have available. It’s as simple as that. I don’t know if that’s even what ArenaNet intended (rewards are intentionally crap; have fun with doing other stuff we’re throwing at you) but the end result is just that.

I find this puzzling since it doesn’t foster long term success for a game that wants to have mass appeal.

Then if he’s not willing to put in effort to play the game the way its creators intended and intricately designed it to be played, maybe it’s just not his kind of game.

It’s either to play how they want us to play or go somewhere else? How can this be a good thing?

pretty much. That’s how a lot of MMO’s do their thing. And it’s a good thing for the people that play it the way it was meant to be played, so that the experience is preserved.

I’m not a player who has amassed a lot of gold exploiting game mechanics. I don’t obsessively farms dungeons – I have no patience nor time for that. I like to take time doing stuff but I also like to get rewarded when I’m doing so and for the time I have available.

- After researching Magical Find, I decided to invest in that in order to try and farm some yellow gear. I spent most of the few gold I had accumulated in the process. It was nice to have in fact gotten some rare gear on occasion, which I then salvaged to get ectos. But after the absolute nerfing patch, I don’t seem to get even greens anymore. It seems that my investment was nullified.

- I finished my personal story and I got some very underwhelming rewards. All that effort for little return.

- I finished a lower level dynamic event and got some xp, some karma, and 1 copper as a reward.

- I finished exploring an area and got 1 copper as a reward.

- I try to do a dungeon after the patch and see that I spend more money repairing my gear than what the reward gets me.

- A group of monsters kills me and the waypoint that’s about 3 meters from me needs 1+ silver to be used.

- I try to get to a vista, fall and die, and need to use the nearest waypoint about 5 to 6 times, each time being 1+ silver.

- A friend asks me to help in a far away waypoint which takes about 6 silver for a round trip.

- I have a stockpile of black lion chests which would need me to spend 80USD to get keys in order to open them. I used to get keys as loot on occasion, but not anymore.

I’m getting a pattern of too little reward for the effort and I’m far from being a super savvy MMO gamer. I had a great deal of fun with GW1 but suddenly, and unfortunately, the feeling started to be quite different in this new project.

I’m not interested in playing GW2 as it is at this moment.

What am I exactly expected to do? Where’s the rulebook on how to play in order to have “fun”? Where’s the sense of freedom to play how I want to play? Are gold sinks, diminishing returns, and end game grind rewarding? Really?

How can an open world seem so closed down?

I’ve seen these exact same type of threads in every recent MMO released.
And every one of them end up being a ghost town.

I enjoy the game, but I’m worried about the population of players doing a mass exodus in the end.

Telling people to leave is not the answer.

Agreed.

I’m taking a break from GW2 for the time being. I’m going back to play GW1, which I’ve been playing since 2006, as well as other fun games out there. I don’t like where they are headed with the all-around nerfing, cumulative high cost of travel and armor repair, or even collecting a useless boatload of black lion chests I can’t open.

Maybe Anet can live off with the self proclaimed “mature” and intellectually superior type of players that are left after the dust is settled. Or maybe the fun meter can be broaden and improved – which I hope it will.

Cheers.

Here’s a trick to skip at least some of the fees. You can go to the Heart of the Mists and port to Lion’s Arch for free. From Lion’s Arch, heading south a short distance will bring you to Whispers Sanctuary which can port you to Fort Trinity for free as well. From there you can go to any of the Pact headquarters.

From Lion’s Arch you can also reach any starting city for free, which in turn means access to Ebonhawke from Divinity’s Reach.

And that’s all of the free ports I know of, but using this I never have to pay over 1.5s for any port at lvl 80.

I wish you wouldn’t have been so helpful. Anet has been very keen to nerf player “discoveries”.

And yes, I agree that waypoint travel is expensive and should be more travel friendly.

Man I am rich.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Amon.5042

Too much effort for too little reward in end game… which is still quite bugged… I don’t like the direction they’re going with this. I find quite discouraging and disappointing to see 1 copper as part of a reward, getting underwhelming loot when the personal story is done, losing money with armor repair in dungeons (which loot now hardly compensates), and successive patches tailored to increase end game grind.

I like to play a game to have fun in a reasonable way, not to have grind increased and gameplay nerfed whenever a more rewarding way to achieve things is found.

I think that like this, GW2 will not be the next WOW. It will be the next SWTOR.

In a way, it’s good to know that this is happening to a lot more players. Hopefully the anti-fraud mechanism is being reworked as we speak. They could even maintain the system, as long as they get a more permanent fix for legitimate players. This 24-hour window is ridiculous in a customer’s POV since it makes us feel like we’re asking for a favor to actually spend money with them. This “favor” will unavoidably make players far less eager to buy from them.

I had my credit card getting red flagged in GW1 some months before the launch of GW2. I had previously used my CC in GW1, in two accounts, for nearly 6 years before they’ve implemented this system.

My current problem is another one, as my purchase attempts are not even being registered. But when they fix this problem, I’m more than likely to fall into the same silly conundrum.

There may be a pattern of trying to add too much info with getting the word out. Or in other words, they seem to be having a hard time expressing their labor of love in a very limited medium. Maybe they should strive for “aweingly” simple and straightforward.

Greetings,

I’m unable to buy gems from China due to some kind of routing block. That’s what I was able to determine from the communication in the following support ticket: 120825-002056

I’m a network administrator and it seems that there’s no blocks from the Great Firewall in China to access ArenaNet/NCsoft services. AFAIK there is an active block from NCsoft to users trying to access the master account from China: secure.gtm.ncsoft.com [64.25.35.201]

I would be able to buy gems if I use a VPN, but my purchase requests aren’t even registered if I try from mainland China. I just get an error message (screenshots of the error are attached in the support ticket). I’m told by NCsoft support that this service should be open to customers in China. I’m glad to hear that and I’m doing the best I can to help solve this issue. It seems that it’s now up to ArenaNet to do something about this.

I’m hoping that this can get resolved, unless you don’t want my money anymore…
