What do people refer to when talking about Piken’s general strategy? Because I can see a few zergs here and there when there’s multiple commanders on.. Though the guild I’m in prefers to stay away from large groups and we cap stuff with small 5 man strike forces.

Multiple 5 man strike forces are a lot more effective than a single zerg is, plus you get better rewards since the percentage of damage you need to do in order to get a reward is a lot easier to accomplish.

Just my two cents.

Considering we don’t have as high as a popular as the other two servers, I’d say Piken is doing a marvelous job =) And all things aside, I rarely get killed by a Gandaran – Even with two enemies against me, I’m still able to come out on top.

Only times I get killed is whenever a random zerg runs by and steamrolls the entire vicinity.

Just went to check in the Borderlands, and I’ve got the exact thing myself aswell. Would’ve checked earlier, but wasn’t in game then. And since I’m usually never in the Borderlands, I didn’t notice it any sooner, haha.

Have you tried fixing the client yet? This might solve your issue.
Also make sure that your GFX card is running the latest drivers :-)

If that doesn’t work, it probably isn’t something on your end. But alas, try it anyhoo and if it doesn’t work submit a support ticket ^^;

In order to repair the client use these steps:

If you are having problems running Guild Wars 2, the data archive may have become corrupted. Please follow these steps to verify and repair the archive:

Locate your Gw2.exe file.
Right-click on the file and select Create shortcut.
Rename this new shortcut to Guild Wars 2 Repair.
Right-click on Guild Wars 2 Repair and select Properties.
Locate the Target line and add -repair to the end.
Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\gw2.exe” -repair
Click OK.

Double-clicking Guild Wars 2 Repair will begin the repair process. The game will launch when it is complete.

Note: Keep in mind that the verification and repair process will run each time you double-click the Guild Wars 2 Repair shortcut. If you would like to play the game immediately without repairing the archive, double-click on Gw2.exe or another shortcut without the -repair command.

That’s not true, every attunement has different ranges and uses. You basically have 5 weapon sets.

Herpa derpa. You’re wrong. Each weapon has different ranges. Each attunement has exactly the same range as the other three attunements do on a single weapon. Also, when did Ele’s get that 5th attunement? My Ele doesn’t seem to have it unlocked yet.

I was looking around Southsun Cove a few moments ago, and I could see at least 6 nodes of Passiflora around me waiting to be farmed. So I went up to the first 2, and there I saw the other 4 disappear straight off the map.

Though this might just be a means to prevent overfarming of the Passiflora, it looks a whole lot more like a bug to me. Especially considering how costly the crafting materials are that belong to this resource node. Hence why I’m posting about it.

I’m talking about the Passiflora in Dappled Shores by the way.

I also wonder what happened with Livia. Last we knew she had found the scepter of Orr, but except for a brief mention in the first book, and a point of interest in the last dungeon named Wreckage of “Lady Livia”, we don’t get too much info on this (unless I didn’t pay attention to something, or somehow we found her in that dungeon, I haven’t done it yet…).

Remind me again.. What exactly was said in the first book? It’s been a while since I read it, and I can’t seem to remember anything about Livia being mentioned in there.

Currently there is no “good” reason to upgrade any of your keeps, towers or even supply camps other than “it’s easier to defend”. A single player will be forced to contribute to the larger scale battle by simply adding money to the table. Or a group could team up to collect the same amount of silver or gold necessary for an upgrade. Alas.

Why not reward this system of upgrading a bit more to give players more incentive to want to upgrade? Why not add an experience reward for buying an upgrade at a keep that could turn the tide of battle? This will encourage lower leveled characters to try and play WvW – And will encourage them to save up on gold a bit, instead of randomly cashing it out.

For level 80 characters this does not necessary increase incentive – Unless said person was trying to get more skill points, which are necessary for a multitude of things anyhoo. Regardless, they get higher rewards at higher levels anyway.

So while the XP gives lower players more incentive to play and actually upgrade, it rewards level 80 players just as well in comparison since they require less work to get that extra skill point – While preventing exploitation because although skill points are useful in many areas, they’re of less value to a higher leveled char than they are to a lower leveled char.

Mind you, this all made sense in my head before I posted it here. This idea mostly revolves around getting more people interested in WvW, adding a bit more rewards to the current system to encourage experienced players.. And in term makes it a bit easier to level up an alt in WvW; considering it’s quite a challenge to level a character in its current setting.

Opinions? Thoughts?

New Culling Trial (Ended)

I didn’t notice any changes the other day, because I didn’t really go where the big zergs were. But today the Germans decided to invade our keep with as little as five Alpha golems.. It made the entire server lag so much that our skills had a recharge delay of up to 10 to 15 seconds.

Perhaps this is an unforeseen addition to the game caused by the culling trial?

I was wondering about this the other day.

I mean, what’s the maximum age of a centaur? Is it not far greater than that of a human being? What happened to Razah? And what about necromancers? Did we ever hear anything from the Master of Whispers? Olias? What happened to Livia after she found the Sceptre of Orr? Could she have used it to potentially prolong her life to make an appearance in GW2?

We already know that Ogden is in the game. And there’s mention of some of the other heroes’ untimely deaths. But there’s quite a few left untouched. Was this done on purpose to allow space for expansion? Or were some of these characters simply left forgotten?

(Also, I’ve checked Wiki to try and figure out as much as I possibly can. But perhaps there’s something I missed and someone else did in fact read it – Or got to talk to a dev recently about anything related to this)

I managed to play with Tirzah Bauer a year or two ago, during Gamescom. Was mad fun!

It’s nice you have some devs playing with you on American servers.

Not a single dev or GM has ever set foot here, on European server soil.

So what you’re pretty much asking for is that not only should devs play 1 vs. 7, but they should also be doing this whilst facing lag from intercontinental connections?

Could you possibly add something about the importance of reviving allies?

As annoying and time-consuming it might seem to some, you actually gain experience from it. And not just that, if you’re about to get struck by enemies you’ll be wanting all the extra manpower you can muster – Regardless of whether you’re in one of the WvW jumping puzzles, in a keep or roaming around a bit.

The enemy can and will be lurking around any and every corner to try and ambush people – With or without culling issues a horde of enemy players can become a real pain if you’re outmatched 2 to 3; or when you’re a lower leveled player going up against a level 80 player/seasoned pro.

You can only do someone’s personal story together if you’re in the same map/zone and are on the same server. Meaning you can’t play together with friends on different servers.

However you can do a single server transfer every 7 days completely free of charge.

Haven’t seen a thread yet for this week, so figured I’d make one. And starting with an offensive statement from the get go:

What’s up with you two teaming up against Piken? We’re lowest in score, yet you’re still humping up our walls. This match is never gonna get exciting if you don’t challenge yourselves.

Also, anyone care to translate this into French/German? Heh.

PS: I’m actually enjoying most of the fights. It’s just a little too obvious that you two are teaming up. The moment we try to push towards an enemy tower, suddenly the other enemy shows up as well. Stalking much?

Could you possibly add the language tags to the servers who are aimed at specific languages? This makes it a bit easier to set them apart from the “English” speaking servers and makes it easier for people to see further or not they’d like to transfer somewhere – Should they feel the need to go to a higher or lower tiered server.

All’s fair in love and war.

They only part that should be modified is the arena, because every other part can be done with invaders present. But if another server stays at the top of the arena, there is no counterplay.

But still, it’s part of the game.

It’s pretty easy to get the arena done. Each profession either has a teleporting skill that allows them to skip half of the content in the JP, or they have a jumping skill which allows them to skip passed the other half of the content. Combine forces with different professions and it’s quite easy to stomp your enemies to the ground.

Examples:

Mesmer has the portal, a blink skill and can use temporal curtain to pull down the enemy. Highly successful.

The thief can use it’s clusterbomb and use the scorpion wire. They can teleport passed half the arena with their shortbow, and use shadow refuge to help stealth others.

The ele has tons of ranged attacks, mostly superior to other professions. They can hit heavy with AoE, have a blink skill that allows skipping of sections in the puzzle and have skills to add stability and swiftness.

Ranger has tons of range and an annoying pet. Their AoE is enough to send most people straight into the downed state if you trait your ranger right.

Warrior has its rifle and longbow to cover range and AoE – They also have a leap skill that allows them to skip portions of the JP. Though mostly melee focussed, this is one of the toughest professions to use whilst trying to stomp through a campsite.

Necro has fear, marks and ranged attacks. Not to mention that it can use its teleporting skill to skip part of the arena, much like the thief, ele and mesmer.

Engineer is pretty much the warrior and ranger combined. Use your grenades and you should be able to kill stuff pretty good and quickly. Use your jumpshot to get to places whilst in combat.

Guardian is pretty much the same as the warrior, with extra stability, better range and the ability to use consecrations on the ground – Sanctuary unto your enemy and it should bounce them right off the cliff, if used properly.

Let me remind you though that these are the things I can think off the top of my head. I haven’t properly played with all professions, such as the ranger, but have tried them before I got rid of them so I know the basics well enough to understand that each profession has it’s own unique way to deal with campers.

I don’t necessarily think WvW is being neglected. Because it’s on such a large scale, things require more thinking and testing than anything else in the game. It’s more complicated to add random stuff whilst keeping balance in mind – You can’t just go about adding stuff and if it doesn’t work, you take it out again. That would eat up way too much resources, that could otherwise be spent on actual content.

Could you possibly add in superior siege weapons? The Alpha golem is the only MELEE mobile siege weapon, whereas the Omega golem falls in a different category as it’s more range based – Which makes it a lot more effective than the former is because it can safely keep its distance from the enemy, whilst still dishing out tons of damage.

Also, superior siege weapons seem to do more damage than casual siege weapons, and from what I’ve seen they appear to have more health as well. Though the latter would need to be confirmed by a dev. The ranged seems to be the same.

Correct me if I’m wrong =)

If someone could improve the graphics on this and make it a bit easier to read, this would be the perfect thread to sticky and help out new people =)

I know tons about photomanipulation, but I suck at creating my own icons and such. So if anyone could be kind enough to upload icons, I could easily add them to the map and make it easier on the eyes.

(Though I suppose I or anyone else for that matter, could try hopping onto GW2 wiki and get some icons from there? Thoughts?)

Fully agreed with OP. And though “secrets” shouldn’t be spilled into the open.. it’s wise for people to know how and where to place trebuchets (though this is more of an in-game issue, since if you ask me there should be a range indicator in the game much like how the AoE circles work).

About the different small group strategies though.. Please don’t bring up specifics on that. GW2 was designed to not revolve around getting a healer, a tank and three DPS. Changing these things into groups asking for Guardians or Thieves specifically would just become an annoyance and a new way of griefing.

This is a group-based game (The entire game, not just WvW).
We should act as such =)

Doesn’t sound like a bug. But it could possibly have to do with the culling issues whenever large amounts of players need to get loaded. However I’m assuming this wasn’t the case for you at the time, so it sounds like an exploit or a hacker =)

The issue with this bug is that it’s probably hard for the team to duplicate it internally – Which means the issue is most likely happening somewhere between their server and your computer. I’ve personally only encountered the bug occasionally. Say, once every 7 days.

What is the Loot Bag despawn timer?

From what I’ve gathered the loot bag is attached to whoever you killed to get it. So if they log off, or switch to a different part of WvW, the bag will disappear with them. This is why people who log out whilst downed don’t drop any loot =)

I might be mistaken, but that’s the kind of info I’ve gathered over time.

I’m all for camping at keeps and defending them properly. However you’d either need more people on a server to be actively cooperating or less keeps that need defending.

Also why the hate against karma and XP? WvW is an extention of both PvE and PvP and blends them together – Why change that?

The fractals are parts of the past, present and future of Tyria so there’s no accurate way of telling when or where it came from. For all we know it’s something that hasn’t occured yet in present time and might be something elaborated upon in future expansions – Should the need for such arise and should the engine allow it, etc.

I’ve personally thought of it to be the predecessor of Abbadon. Or possibly the god of the Underworld before Grenth took over. Or any other god from the past or future really.

New WvWvW Map?

How about a WvW map that also features a large portion underground? They’d be able to add destroyers to the map as enemies, destroyer related events, there could be skritt, dredge, etc.

And of course a multi-layered map featuring two or three different “levels” of height. Bottom of the cave, mid level and above ground section. Would require more tactics and at the same time would give more room for smaller parties to do stuff as its a bit harder to figure out where the damage is being done.

sure make it a map of one of the major cities…. Rata sun would be entertaining.

I’d like a big WvW map in a similar style as Rata Sum and the Fractals of the Mists Asura map. You’d be able to have several layers, rather than just the top layer with the occasional cave or pool of water to swim in.

It’s such a shame that FSP is too PvE focussed during events. Practically everyone runs off to do the new content, WvW will die out and after the event’s done people will be complaining that their server is losing at WvW.

Although I received some Hate-Whispers from Far Shiverpeak and Augury Rock players for Stealth-abusing =(

They’re only hating because they don’t know how to counter such builds. Just ignore them =) There’s plenty of ways to get rid of Stealthy Thieves, people just need to learn how to be more versatile during WvW.

To be honest, I can’t remember them ever being mentioned before. Not even in Guild Wars 1. They probably were never discovered because they’re so far down south – Or perhaps knowledge of their existence got lost when Orr sank.

They might very well be something new that got pushed to the surface because of the Deep Sea Dragon. Chances are we’ll find out a lot more about them on friday and the rest of the weekend :P

I know one of my fave commanders on Far Shiverpeaks left (Burning Arrow), and I know his entire alliance left as well. Not sure if those were Russians or not. But tactically speaking we lost a tonne.

We have a bunch of commanders, active throughout the day. However most people don’t follow them, or even listen to them. Either because the commander has made wrong decisions in the past, or because not everyone speaks proper English – Sometimes even because the commander doesn’t communicate in Team chat.

I just know that Blacktide is becoming increasingly more interesting to join =) Not because I’m a sore loser. But because I like good tactics and strategic thinking – Something that’s definitely missing on FSP, who mostly rely on brute force and little thinking.

Well, I suppose legendary npc’s could be added as an upgrade to towers or keeps as a secondary line of defense.

Not quite sure how you’d be able to add them to the game for offensive purposes though, as that relies on a whole new level of coding and the pathing required for the AI would require immense amounts of work – Since obviously you wouldn’t want such an npc out in the open, escorting a dolyak.

I’ve been experiencing some stealth issues with my mesmer as well – In the sense that it’s not always possible to go from one stealth skill into the other; inspite of appearing as visible for a second or two.

So perhaps they added a cooldown period for stealth?

I find this to be more of a fun thing than it is an annoying thing. I’ve encountered it countless times already, and it still makes me giggle every time my character enters a sort of trance -like state while hovering across the ground without moving his legs.

They’re a European server as far as the server tag suggests. However they might very well have South American guilds on their server, as there is no rule that prohibits those from crossing over to a European server.

Then again, keep in mind that there’s a lot of financial issues in Spain right – Especially since a larger part of the populace seems to be without a job. This in turn allows them to be more active than anyone else =)

WvW is the heart of GW2 - How to reward it?

Arenanet’s usual policy is that they don’t discuss anything until things have been finalized to be implemented into the game. Now, the fact that WvW is a lot more complicated than the rest of the game shows that a lot more time is necessary to consider all the possible outcomes of a random update.

Balance is the key here.

They initially wanted to release a total of three different maps for WvW – Which would then rotate around after every match ended. A completely new map for use every two weeks. In the end that seemed a little less possible than they first thought, so we ended up with just a single map (I’m assuming they meant different Borderlands as well the Eternal Battle, FYI).

I agree that rewards are meager though. Most likely because my server isn’t in the top 3, so capping locations can be a little more time consuming than when one would be occupying a more crowded server. In all honest though, I think there’s just too many things that can drop as a reward; I mean really. There’s unidentified dyes, there’s materials for crafting, there’s armor pieces, there’s random trophy items, etc. etc. And if you’re hoping for that single drop to occur, I imagine it can get pretty annoying to wait for that to happen.

I personally hope they’ll soon release information about a second map. Or how they’re planning on adding an alternative to the Eternal Battlegrounds – A 5th zone added to the current map, with a castle just as important as SM, or perhaps even larger. Or perhaps they’ll explore underwater keeps, or keeps that are entirely underground. I mean, who wouldn’t love to further explore the caves underneath the Eternal Battlegrounds instead of only playing above ground?

There’s plenty of things to be added, and still plenty of things to be perfected. The main issue is.. Do you prefer bugs to get fixed? Or would you prefer new content which could potentially introduce new bugs down the line?

Patience is the key. Time will tell what we’ll be gaining, and I’m sure the wait won’t be long from now =)

From what I’ve gathered from the Soesbenator during conventions is that Kuunavang is in a whole other league of dragon than the Elder Dragons and Glint are. But I’m sure we’ll get more information regarding Kuunie in the future =)

Stuck at loading screen in WvW

I was pretty sure that the loading screen stuck up got fixed in a previous patch, but for some reason I keep getting stuck at the loading screen again if I occasionally enter the Jumping Puzzle in the Eternal Battlegrounds.

Now, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you’re on a low pop server with short queues. But I can imagine this being terribly annoying if you’ve been in a queue for anything more than an hour, you go and try to jump around in the puzzle and instead have to go through the entire queue again before being able to get there.

If it helps any, I’d have already been actively killing enemies in WvW for about 2 to 3 hours already, so it’s not like the bug occurs within the first few minutes after joining.

If any further info is needed, I’ll do my best to help.

(I’m on the Far Shiverpeaks server, btw)

Instead of having your complaints at the ready, let’s try and see what this change actually does to the game before we come up with conclusions based on nothing.

So what if a quest is bugged? Make a bug report and eventually they’ll get to it. The more complaints, the higher of a priority the quest will get. For example, people complained tons about this thing in WvW – And voila, free server transfers are becoming more limited. Is this a good permanent solution? Perhaps. Is it a good temporary solution? Without a doubt, yes.

No longer will people find it interesting to join another server – Because you can’t base a server’s success of a single day. Even if you transfer to the winning server every friday, there’s no guarantee that your new server will win in the upcoming week. Not to mention that spies will now think twice about whether or not they’ll switch servers; after all, who’d love to play a multiplayer videogame with all of their friends on a different server?

PS: The moment guesting is resolved, PvE players will have no more complaints about this either. And I’m pretty sure they recently had a blogpost in which they stated we could expect the first major additions to the game in November.
