I love roaming around the desert map. My only issue was the sheer size of them, and that darn oasis. The size can easily be helped by granting a permanent movement speed bonus to each and every player. As soon with Alpine, the centre of the map can easily be rearranged into something that’s more fun than the oasis.

I’d much rather see the map be changed over slightly, than be thrown away altogether. Wasted resources on a game mode that barely gets any resources.. Bad call for future updates.

So like, I bought a secondary account last year because the game was on sale and it was cheaper to do this than it was to buy a new bank tab or a character slot.. But today’s been my first time logging in since forever.

Now I’m wondering.. I have tons of items on my second account and I don’t actually use it anymore.. Would it somehow be possible to transfer these items and terminate the secondary account? Or is it possible to merge the two accounts?

I figured I’d ask here instead of filing a support ticket since I’m mostly just curious whether or not it’s even a possibility to get this done. Thanks in advance <3

A friend of mine has been experiencing this issue for 4 months now and still no one from support has been able to help him. He’s tried a clean install, tried cleaning the cache thing, etc. but to no avail.

Are there any other (possible) fixes that people have discovered over time?

I made a simple video testing the buff at full – being that my server took every power node.

What do you guys think?

You attack two dolyaks, the quartermaster and a nearly dead Veteran Lord.. Nothing special. On the player vs. player part you show survivability.. And then how a few of your enemies run away, while several allies of yours show up. You then kill 2 enemy players with , I believe, 3 or possibly even 4 allies. Again nothing special.

You haven’t shown skill, nor have you shown that the buff is overpowered or underpowered. You have however shown skill in ganking, while under the effects of the buffs.

I wouldnt be shocked, they need some positive publicity. They aint get that much of it so could make fake accounts to make it seem enough people love it so they arent forced to admit they were clueless in the design, had no idea what they were doing and have to fix it.

You make me giggle. Been a long time member of these forums. Been playing since the open beta’s. And on top of that: I’m not even American.

If you read the title of the post, it says “the strong get stronger”. I think you may have missed the point…

To me that mostly just says “The stupid stay stupid”. Your enemy needs to capture 9 areas to get the buff. They need to hold these areas for 2 minutes before it gets activated. It takes more than 2 minutes to capture these points.

If you can’t stand up to them, you need to change your tactics and communicate better with your allies.

And now finding people to duel, one of the things I enjoyed, is completely ruined.

You really think this is because of the orb buff? You’re just aiming the blame elsewhere if you ask me. Instead okittennowledging that your server is weaker than the leading server, you come up with the silly idea that the game is doing something wrong.

Without the orb buffs, chances are pretty high that you’d still be getting slaughtered. Only difference now is that you’ve got a new feature to blame, instead of lack of server coverage, lower server population, possibly even lower player skill. Maybe your server is focussing too much on zerging – Neglecting small group play, etc. etc.

Evaluate the orb buff for a few weeks. Evaluate your server’s behaviour. Don’t judge badly because you’re losing. Be constructive.

Stat bonuses mean:

Solo Roaming is dead
Small group roaming is dead
GvG is dead
Actually fun and competitive ZvZ is dead

I (and probably many others) will instantly quit the game.

That’s not an overreaction either. Stat bonuses would ruin everything that’s good about WvW. Thee only bonuses that orbs should provide are non-combat bonuses.

Considering how you’re already talking about leaving the game without even knowing how anything is going to work.. Wouldn’t it be best if you just packed your bags and left immediately? I’m sure there’s plenty of people who’d love to give the new orbs a spin without being in a long queue first =)

Even if the orbs return with a stat boost, who’s to say that the boost will be a permanent one? Maybe Arenanet actually learned their lesson after tons of thieves and mesmers were sky surfing into keeps to steal the orbs. (I mean let’s be realistic here.. I doubt they’d be stupid enough to retry that one)

All I’m saying is.. Wait before you judge. Quit being such a downer and ride along on the wave of positivity =)

ANET Fix Your Towers

Some things aren’t as easily fixed as some of you would like to think. If they didn’t get around to fixing it in the previous update, maybe it’ll happen during the next – Or the one two weeks after that.

Updates have picked up a lot of momentum lately. I’m sure they’ll get around to fixing it eventually ^^

Really? That’s the only thing you could possibly come up with? Piken has plenty of roamers in EB, which is where I go usually. Don’t be fooled by the herd running behind the commanders. There are still people on Piken who like to PvP in WvW, instead of just steam-rolling enemy zergs.

WvW walls eating up Grenades

Most destructible walls in WvW seem to be eating up Engineer grenades and mortar fire whenever there is siege equipment on top of them. I’ve seen it happen with superior arrowcarts and with normal ones. Instead of exploding upon contact, the grenades/mortar will launch “into” the wall and go off once they’re on the inside of them.

I’d get printscreens of this, but it’s rather hard for me to aim the grenades and take a printscreen at the same time :P So I’m hoping that other people were able to report this in-game, or managed to take printscreens.

I’ve personally witnessed this in both Quentin Lake and Mendon’s. But I’m pretty confident that this bug is something that has to do with all of the destructible walls (Only thing blocking me from testing this is line of sight, which is hard to get by at most towers)

Another thing that should be noted is that the parts of the walls that are eating up the explosions, is not in front of the towers. I’m chucking the grenades/mortar fire on top of the AC’s from the cliffside of the above mentioned towers (or the inside of the walls, if that’s any clearer).

This is the build that I’m using while suffering from this bug.

Trinkets don’t seem to affect this, as I’ve tried several different ones. Traits in Tools don’t make a difference either, as I’ve recently changed them from Inventions over to Tools.

august 6 reducing skill lag?

It’ll speed up the rendering of fights, meaning that theoretically, it could indeed be a fix for skill lag. If not a complete fix, at least a partial fix.

I just tried making a printscreen, without the bug reporting interface.. And this too causes it to crash. There’s no issues within my own hardware, since every other videogame I play has no issues. Games such as SimCity, the Sims 3 and Mass Effect 3 show no issues or crashes and they require just as much/more physical memory than GW2 does.

Lately I’ve been getting all sorts of textures crashes whilst playing in World vs. World. Something like part of the textures on the Flame Ram would disappear, revealing the lava that’s underneath the iron textures (the layer beneath the top layer)..

Or siege golems completely losing their textures and just have the models walking around with the sky filling up the places where their armour should be.

It’s also happened with the wooden tile on the floor at a supply depot (where all the supply boxes stand on top of, next to the Quartermaster).

Whenever this happens and I try to use the in-game bug report, the game just full on crashes for me. Which makes me think that the glitches texture issue is related to the bug report interface in sort of way. Or perhaps a part of the bug report interface is suffering from the same texture issue and thus brings the game to a full stop.

Do I need to repair my game? Redownload the whole thing? Or is this an issue that multiple people have suffered from and lays within the client instead of my client being corrupted?

Is it bad to ask for if there is a Mez in JP?

I find it rather hysterical that people claim that WvW is a PvP map. It’s not. WvW was designed to function as PvE meets PvP, get over it. Another thing; the JP is a WvW feature to allow your team free siege materials. These materials have no function outside of WvW, so it would be useless for people to collect them and not use them.

The reason why people don’t wanna get kicked for inactivity is the long queues.. The fact that they themselves and people like them are causing the queues doesn’t even occur to them.

I myself have occasionally used the auto cast to idle when having to leave unexpectedly, whilst hoping to get back again after 15 to 20 minutes tops. However I’m at least aware of the situation.

People need to decide what’s more important to them; a shorter queue with more active people, or longer queues with people being useless to the team. Guess which one makes more sense to your allies who aren’t idling constantly.

A bunch of ways were previously available that allowed people to enter keeps, with walls and gates still intact. Was this a legit way to enter? No. Just because a bug or exploit managed to stay undiscovered, doesn’t mean it’s a legit thing to do.

Hence my doubts, heh. There’s a fine line between something innocent and something that could potentially ruin the fun for other players (In this case by forcing them to stay in a queue that potentially has no end).

They can set the rule so that it doesn’t apply to auto casts. Press a skill button manually, or make any character movement and you’re “active”.

Theoretically they should be able to set an exception to auto cast skills, or manually activated skills. Only issue could be whether or not the current code allows for an expansion of that.

For instance changing siege weapons to go from soulbound to account bound sounds simple on paper, but from what I’ve gathered it’s not possible currently because of how the founding coding was set in stone. They might encounter a similar issue with this.

Hence me wondering whether or not it’s legit to prevent the inactivity kick from occuring by using auto cast skills.

What if I’m on a treb/ac/ballista for 45 minutes-1 hour? I get kicked? Bad proposal is bad.

You’d actually be contributing to the server’s effort to win in the week’s match. However idling for many a hour does not. Also I’m not proposing anything, which you’d have known had you taken the time to properly read the first post.

From what I can tell the game is very kind with the kicked for inactivity. I was in the bathroom for 6 minutes, came out, and came back to the computer without seeing a message warning me or anything. If you’re getting kicked for inactivity, then you’re truly inactive. It’s fine how it is right now.

The issue is that you can be inactive permanently with your heal skill on auto cast; thus the inactivity system is no longer effective at what it’s supposed to do: ie. to kick those who idle for too long.

If you use a utility skill or healing skill with auto cast, this allows one to not go inactive according to the server’s knowledge. However, is this considered an exploit or is it a legit way to prevent getting kicked for inactivity?

This basically allows one to stay in WvW as long as the server isn’t down, or otherwise not accessible. However with the amount of idling people increasing and queues getting longer.. Should this really be tolerated? Remaining idle in WvW will result in a weaker team, though you get the advantage of skipping queues that can sometimes be as lengthy as an hour; or worse.

There are pro’s and con’s to this. However does one outweigh the other? Or are these auto-casters selfish for not allowing others to play in their stead?

PS: Could/Should one get banned for avoiding the kick of inactivity?

The joys of skill lag

Mind you, this is not a thread meant to discuss how annoying it is, or how reversing back to culling could fix it, etc. etc. What I’d like to know is whether or not this thing can be fixed in some sort of manner without reverting back to older settings?

Would increasing server capacity fix this issue? Or is it more complicated than just adding a few more machines to spread the pressure more evenly?

I’m pretty sure a lot of people on here and elsewhere would love to know whether or not the skill lag was implemented whilst the team knew about it, or whether it was something that showed its face after the culling fix got launched. Unforeseen or written off as not life threatening? Fixable in the near future? Or something we’ll need to live with?

If anyone other than a dev knows anything about this, feel free to add your two cents and maybe I and a few others will become a bit wiser after all of this is done and dealt with.

PS: I’ve seen plenty of people discuss this subject, but only in terms of how annoying it is, or how culling should be brought back to fix it. I also know it’s an issue that’s serverside and has nothing to do with our computer. Anything else and I’m clueless however.

Lost Serial

Dear Gaile, whom I’m hoping shall read this,

After a recent break up, I’ve lost the serial code that’s connected to my GW2 account. This is because of a stupid mistake I made a while ago, agreed – That mistake being me not taking my stuff along when I moved out of my ex’s apartment.

Now he’s being a total well.. Y’know. And refusing to give me back any of the things I used to own back in the old appartment. Amongst these things are my Starcraft 2 serial, my Guild Wars 2 serial and a bunch of other videogames that I managed to gather throughout the years. Even GW1, though I no longer play said game.

With the risk of him trying to get my account blocked or given to him, how am I going to protect what’s rightfully mine even though I’m no longer capable of providing the serial code that’s linked to my account?

PS: I’ve sent this message to you elsewhere, with the hopes of giving enough confirmation that this is not a scam in any sort of way.

If there are any other questions or suggestions, I’d love to hear them. I’d really like to keep playing with my account without someone being able to brutally take it away from me.

Dolyak to rally

Is it common for dolyaks to not allow you to rally even though you clearly killed them before getting killed yourself? ‘Cause this just happened to me. And if I remember it happened to me once more, but I didn’t think much of it back then.. However second time is a bit.. suspicious.

Are dolyaks like bunnies and other such critters? Anyone else have any issues with these fella’s not allowing you to rally? Does Arenanet have a statement as to why you can’t rally off them if the former question is answered with a yes?

It’s not a big thing, sure. But it’s annoying to have to run all the way to the other side of the map, because of a single kill not counting towards any sort of rally bug.

Serious bug - wvw ability lag

WvW was designed with such large battles in mind. Naturally it would require the game engine to cope with the expected. However it does not and shows a peculiar delay in the recharge of skills. This is exactly what a bug does. Something unexpected. Something that’s not supposed to happen.

If everyone just stands still and accepts it for what it is, it’ll never get fixed. Stand up for the game you like to play, and maybe we’ll be able to see a fix in the future. Or an expansion on the servers’ capabilities, which seems to be the bigger part of the problem.

Why would you want to discourage large scale combat in a large scale zone. If WvW was meant to be 5v5 or 10 v 10 why did they cap the zones at 100 or so each server per map.

So are parties limited to 5 people? How come even a squad has a max of 50 people? Why does AoE cap at 5 people? The 100 people cap per server per map was to ensure more people could get into WvW, not so they could all blob up and turn into le monobus, as the French like to call a zerg.

5 teams of ten people can be a lot more effective at WvW than a single 50 man zerg can. Yes, they’ll melt doors, blahblahblah. But in comparison, the zerg will get less rewards, because they do less damage in comparison to the enemy. Not to mention that two or three flame rams is the most a zerg puts down; something a 10 man team can do just as easily.

The major difference is that those 5 smaller teams can spread out across the map and attack several towers at the same time, forcing the enemy to choose which tower they’d like to lose and which one they’d like to keep. And considering that zergs usually keep towers with paper doors..

After a 40 vs 40 zerg fight in our garrison we beat the invaders. 10 of us spent 15 minutes looking for the T&M. We know they are somewhere but we cannot kill them. Then BAM the T&M portal their 40 men zerg back into the keep. We got our zerg back quick enough to defend, but it was close. The inner gate was down and we just barely held them off at the lord’s room.

The process was repeated many times that night. Once they even tried to portal straight into lords (maybe they got 2 T&Ms not sure). Basically if we do not pay attention for 2 minutes we would lose garrison.

So with that many people around.. None of you were smart enough to look for the tiny little animations that both the mesmer and thief use in order to obtain stealth? Not to mention “the inner gate was down” – That’s just plain not paying attention.

If you want to counter stealth, try using AoE knockback/knockdown. Try dazing, pulling, etc. etc. These are the mechanics designed to temporarily disable your enemy. If you see a thief use Shadow Refuge, counter it with a Mesmer’s temporal curtain pull, AoE hammer knock back from a Warrior, a Guardian with ring of warding or binding blade. The list of skills is endless. Use them.

Yes a keep is big, and yes there is plenty of opportunity to hide. But every skill in the game has a cooldown, and every skill in the game requires a certain animation before being activated.

PS: Before you try and say my main character is a thief.. Think again.

I’ve killed my fair share of thieves and mesmers in the past.. Even killed them while paired up. The thing people need to get through to their heads is that you’ll need beat a thief/mesmer while stuck in the warrior mindset. Learn what your enemy is capable of, figure out what animation does what.. And practice.

Come back after you’ve tried the above. If not tried, your opinion is invalid to begin with.

Do you people even realize you can get FREE SIEGE MATERIALS from the puzzle? I mean.. You could save up to a 100 badges of honour, or 1g on a Golem.. Just by doing the puzzle once. And wanna know what’s even more fun? You get BADGES for doing the puzzle! Wow!

This thing was designed to be a game changer. If your team camps the puzzle, they get access to free siege materials for their team; therefore allowing them more resources to upgrade their keeps/towers/camps, without losing siege prowess on the battlefield.

Next time you decide to complain about people being in the JP consider this; Would you really prefer to spend more money on WvW? Even while you’re hardly getting anything back from it? That one person in the JP gets 2 siege materials for doing it, plus badges. The more often they do the puzzle, the more siege becomes available for YOUR team.

World Map Completion/WvW

I think it’s unfair how this game is set up. It makes no sense! [/sarcasm]

WvW is PvE and PvP mixed. Separating it from World Discovery would make it lean more towards PvP, though it was clear from the start that it would contain a mixture of both worlds. World Completion is optional. Achievements are optional.

If you feel like discovering the entire world isn’t your cup of tea, then don’t do it. It’s as simple as that.

Extremely unbalanced profession

The only thing I could mildly see being redone about the Thief is the length of the stealth. But not necessarily the length of the stealth itself, but the time that you’re immune to stealth that follows after. Half a second or a whole second added to that timer should keep stealth under better control.

But in all honesty.. If you can’t kill a glass canon thief.. You should try to learn your profession a bit better. Each profession has their own way of countering things. Don’t get stuck using a single build. Experiment and try stuff out. Don’t be afraid to do something new :-)

PS: My main character is a mesmer; and I can kill way too many professions with way too much ease. Because stealth is awesome if you use it properly.

What's your favourite Jumping Puzzle?

Out of sheer curiosity, did you do the jumping puzzle in the Eternal Battlegrounds as well? Because the size of that is just magnificent. It’s the one and only jumping puzzle that I do regularly – Even if my chest hasn’t reset yet.

Are you considering doing something similar in the future? Either for WvW, or a PvE version – With automated traps, of course.

Also, I’m not a big fan of the timed jumping puzzles. I won’t say I’m terrible at the platforming stuff, but I’m far from the best at it. So getting a wee bit of extra time before getting blown to smithereens would be useful.

WvWvW Culling is ruining fights

The current issue with culling isn’t worse. It’s a LOT better.
And I’ll gladly explain to you why:

Previously there was a set number of players that could appear on your screen. This set of numbers included both allies AND enemies; meaning that if you were in a large group of allies, you’d be facing more invisible enemies unless you suddenly moved too far into the enemy zerg. This was annoying as you couldn’t even see the enemy.

What we now have is that there is still a set numbers of players that can be visible on your screen; however enemies and allies now each have a seperate pool. This effectively means that regardless of how many allies are around you, it won’t interfere with how you perceive your enemy (either temp char model, actual char model or invisible during large zergs)

This means that although you won’t see their entire zerg, or your own.. You’ll at least be able to tell you’re running into a group of enemies. Allies can easily be recognized on the minimap; both alive, and dead ones. The only issue right now is; how big is that enemy zerg really?

Yes that is still a significant piece of information. But at least now you’re not running in like a blind chicken anymore. You’ll actually be able to see SOME enemies. Whether or not you’re willing to stay and fight is now fully up to you – Are you willing to risk there being a partially zerg? Or will you try to think something through before running in like a headless chicken?

So more than 3 months have passed since the first report.. And yet the bug is still present in the game.

And since this is apparently the rune doing all the hard work.. Don’t the hounds have a despawn timer? Since the one I was fighting didn’t seem to disappear at all. Not even when the enemy player killed me and got out of combat.

He was using a Brown Bear and a Krytan Drakehound. Pretty sure there are no ways to summon either of those with the help of a rune or anything. The fight lasted for several minutes, and neither of the pets disappeared – Not even after I died and he continued on his way.

I have recently encountered this bug whilst in World vs. World. Sadly it wasn’t me who discovered said bug, so I’m not allowed to distribute any printscreens of it.. However my question is: Has anyone else encountered this bug/exploit before?

I’d like to know whether or not this is a common thing to come across, or if it’s something that’s been abused as of late. Not to mention that it would be nice for Arenanet to know if it’s a one time glitch, or something that people actively try to replicate.

What are some of these so called weaker builds that were discussed? And are you guys referring to some of the weaker Utility skills as well as weapon skills? Or just the latter?

Because there’s a number of Utility skills that are practically unused and it sucks to have to waste skill points on them. Especially in WvW were skill points are hard to come by.

We don't want PVE in WvW.

Just here to get one thing through to everyone saying “Boohoo, added no more PvE to WvW!!!111 It’s PvP!1!11”:

You Sir, are terribly mistaken. WvW was designed to be a PvE meets PvP part of the game. This means that you can go about doing PvE stuff and not fight a single other player, or you can choose to only focus on PvP – Or the third and most prefered option by everyone; kill whatever the hell you run in to.

If Arenanet finds a suitable way to allow people in WvW to summon dragons from inside their keep to assist during an assault on Stonemist, whether defensive or offense, I’d love to see it happen. Hell, I’d even support them if they added an option for people to purchase a flying pink hippo to upgrade your tower defenses.

This game is all about fun, if you can’t appreciate that, you shouldn’t be playing.

Will we be getting more skill points in WvW to make up for not having to step into PvE in order to unlock Utility Skills without having to wait forever as you level up? Like for instance skill points that could rotate every few days, or possibly even once a week. Or is this too hard to code?

In the jumping puzzle in the Eternal Battlegrounds.. certain professions can teleport and skip pieces of the puzzle. Was this intentional? Or is it a bug that’s really hard to fix because of how pathing and map design works?

Just a friendly note to everyone out there.. If you see someone hacking or exploiting to get into keeps or towers, report them. Ignoring the people who do these kinds of things is just as bad as doing them yourself.

Other then that.. Have tons of fun! I’m enjoying the good fights a lot so far! :-)

Upload limit for support ticket

I just recorded a video of someone hacking, glitching and exploiting in some secretive part of the game, which isn’t secretive at all but yet it is. However when I tried to upload the file, it kept crashing for some reason. Gave me a pop up that something went wrong, but it didn’t specifically say what was wrong.

Alas, I tried a total of 4 times before giving in and just choosing to upload the video to YouTube instead – Unlisted, of course. And I attached the link to said support ticket.

The file was around 200MB.
Any idea if that was the issue?

If yes, then perhaps a limit should be specified to the website.

PS: I hope the report is still valid, even though I couldn’t upload the video to the support section myself.

WvW queue bugged

About an hour ago I tried to join WvWvW on the server Piken Square. A few seconds before me a friend of mine also queued up, and entered five minutes later. Another friend queued up half an hour after me, and entered the Eternal Battlegrounds within three minutes.

We all queued up for the same thing. Yet for some reason I keep getting skipped over, while others get to cut in line and enter the fight.

I’ve pretty much explored the entire Bloodtide Coast zone, even though I’m only level 52 – Zone level ranges from 45 – 55. This should give a clear indication as to how hard to clear this zone must be for someone below that level, who is soloing stuff. Not to mention that it also goes to show it takes a lot of time to get it done.

Now it might seem like I’m just rambling, but I’m trying to mention everything off the top of my head that could potentially reset me back to the start of the queue. To sum a few things up though, I’ll make a list below:

Level 52 Thief
Sylvari origin
Queued up in Lion’s Arch, zoned to Bloodtide Coast to explore while waiting
Only used a waypoint once whilst there
Was actively gathering resources from nodes
Did the skill points and vista’s in the zone
I’m wearing level 50 Noble Armor, 4 Major Runes of the Afflicted, 2 Minor Runes of the Krait

If anything else is necessary, feel free to ask.

After having been in a queue for an hour and a half, I have finally entered the Eternal Battlegrounds.

As far as being able to play just in WvW and never have to leave if they don’t want to, that most definitely is our goal, and I think we’ve done a fairly good job at that so far. We do need to make sure ascended gear is obtainable in WvW, but other than that I think we’ve mostly made it so you never have to leave WvW if you just want to play there forever. Feel free to point out why I’m wrong about that

The most impossible thing I’ve run into whilst playing WvW, is having to run over to PvE in order to get enough skill points to unlock Utility skills. There’s several skills points in the WvW section already, but that’s hardly enough to steadily gain more skills available to you.

Yes, you could just level up and unlock skills as you go.. But this is very bothersome and annoying, as leveling up in general feels a bit more sluggish in WvW than anywhere else in the world – Whether or not this is because of the lacking personal story, I do not know; however while playing the PS the leveling curve definitely feels as if it’s less steep.

Now for an actual question.

Were the catapults ever meant to be mobile? The wheels seem to indicate they were. If the answer to that is yes, why aren’t they mobile anymore? Was it a coding issue? Or were you already able to tell people could potentially abuse this way of moving around such powerful equipment?
