I haven’t found anything better than a helm from a karma vendor and it’s seriously outdated. Where do we get these things?
Give players one silver for each successfully reported and banned bot they have reported. It will encourage more players to actively report bots and will curb idiots trying to report their friends or real players by giving you the silver only after they are banned, as well as give back money to players to survive the incoming inflation of prices. if you think one silver is too low, keep in mind there are so many bots in Queensdale on my server I always get sent to an overflow channel when going there, and there are still at least 100 bots found on that map!
No Quaggan! Quaggan no!
Oh hush. Quaggan get the best elite in the game- the ability to turn into a demon fish and rampage through the mobs with Unshakeable and permanent might stacks.
Don’t raise the amount of gold given for gems because then this game will be a cash shop game.
- One of the purposes of the Gems to coin option is to help stop illegal gold sellers which also reduces the number of bots in game.
yeah, how’s that working out? I’ve seen more bots than players at this point. There’s so many bots you don’t even have to do events, the bots do it for you. I can’t get into Queensdale’s normal channel because of all the bots, and even in the overflow channel they run rampant. They’ve set up FORTS with overclocked turrets and an army of ranger bots circling the area. This is the worst botting epidemic I’ve seen since Joymax with their sheer apathy to bots in Silk Road being so bad you couldn’t even log in because 80% of the population was automated.
Better idea, don’t do gem-for-coin. Half the items we need are bought with karma or dungeon tokens anyway, and if we get rid of buying gems with gold or trading gold for gems people won’t buy gold for that reason. Granted they’ll buy it to get better stuff, but there’s only so much you can purchase before you have to start using non-tradeable currencies.
What’s that? Can’t afford gems? Make all items found in the cash shop obtainable in some way via ingame, albeit more difficultly. Make clothing options expensive, or require a currency rarely found off mobs. make them tradeable in the trading post or worth karma. Cash shops should be about convenience. More inventory space, more bank space, fancier clothes, it’s all about how fast people get these things. Not everyone’s patient enough to hunt for what we need to get those fancy top hats or extra transmutation stones, and that’s what the cash shop is for. So far I’m not seeing anything that would suggest this is a buy-to-win game (i.e. anything that gives an upperhand to someone who bought things as opposed to someone who hasn’t) but it’s a fine line, and I firmly believe cash shop items should be strictly appearance and convenience-based, and all cash shop items should be obtainable in some way via ingame methods, just a lot more slowly or more difficultly.

This is something I’ve always been whining about. I never understood why the device specifically made for blocking does not have a block while the cowbell/electric horseshoe gets three.
would +250 toughness really make a difference? In that same vain, would +250 vitality make a difference? Although I agree with all of this we have to ask if they’ll actually have an impact on what we do. The sigil that raises precision theoretically adds 11% crit rate and bloodlust gives us +250 damage. That extra 250 makes a big difference in our attack power and with 11% crit you could hit 100% crit rate for your build. Would having 250 more defense really help at level 80? Or in a dungeon? the protection one is definitely needed, but considering every class can use it it’ll make some even more overpowered. The thief can already avoid attacks by staying invisible and disappear as you’re about to finish them, and can permanently blind you if more than four of them attack you at once. Now they take 1/3 less damage on top of that?
I’ve been looking at my build for a while now, trying to figure out the best sigil combination. I have my traits, abilities, runes, even armor and trinkets all laid out- the only thing left is my weapon sigils. Assuming I am primarily toughness/vitality/healing, and assuming I am using this build:
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#cmcczV0MzMvaGmMvaGm0axx0VMVqMok8khM7kiU7kii707kii7kNc70V7owX70m
What do you think is a good sigil to replace the sigil of restoration on my mace? I was thinking sigil of purity, to remove another condition 60% of the time when I crit, but I am thinking my crit rate will be too low for that to be effective. Any suggestions?
oh and to answer your other query – if you are level 80 with exotics in a 15 zone you will be like a demigod despite the drop in base stats
I was about to say. Although I haven’t had problems with champions closer to my level, in areas for level 15s and under the only thing that’s given me trouble are bosses specifically designed to be horribly overpowered. Equipment affects gameplay in this game a lot more than the developers would care to admit….
The only change I would want is to switch Focus skills with Shield skills. It makes no sense that a device specifically made for blocking can’t block, while a cowbell/electric horseshoe can get 3.
I hate the way empower looks on my norn female. To me it’s way too suggestive for my taste, and that noise she makes during doesn’t help either. >.>;
Why would you pass on the stat that is probably rated one of the highest.
because everyone’s doing it. Do we want to be original or be like everyone else?
I was looking at that link and I saw an armor that gives precision, healing power, vitality, and toughness sold by karma vendors. I think it’s called Mortal. Does it really give all four bonuses, or is it random among the last three?
A small squad of them can keep you blinded for most of the fight and just dash around you like an annoying gnat with a gun. If you do manage to kill one, they just teleport away from your finishing move and get back on their feet. Then they gloat about it. The best argument people have for the cons of thieves is they have low survivability, in a game that totes it doesn’t use the holy trinity and therefore defense and healing is worthless anyway. Thieves have always been the troll class and I hate them for it.
How much damage is retaliation doing that giving the guardian it for 100% of the time in a game where ripping boons off enemies is extremely easy and commonplace is considered “unbalanced”?
Yeah, smart idea. Put one group in charge of everyone else where you can vote on the players, but it won’t make a difference. That group will eventually amass so much wealth they can force the game’s economy to inflate and jack prices up so high only they will be able to buy anything. It’ll eventually become their server and we’re just playing on it because they allow us.
Nope. It’s all power, precision, critical rate/damage. Sorry.
This seems simple enough. Since you’re both in the same area chances are your levels are going to be scaled anyway, so you’d only have to worry about towns. Then again, I’d hope a level 4 would be smart enough not to fight a level 80 in any place other than their starting area….
I absolutely adore the quaggan. Everything about them, from being round and cuddly, to turning into hideous fish demons when you make them mad. The hylek are next, if only because they seem smart enough and have a relatively reasonable god (the sun).
Krait and can suck my shaman mace. Every last one of them is annoying, and I’m not a fan of the slavery thing either.
Asurans are up there too, if only because they’re WAY too arrogant for the kitten they get themselves into on a regular basis. Collecting raptor eggs and injecting them with growth serum? Unleashing the center of the planet in a reactor? If it wasn’t for the kindness of strangers, these little nutjobs would be extinct by now.
Every word Romney utters makes me want to strangle him for one more second.
So the runes will remove an ally’s condition when I pull them onto myself? I guess I’ll use them over Dolyak then.
Seriously this is not necessarly griefing.
It is if the engie did it on purpose.
Oh wow, I saw this in the game I came from, but the game engine’s completely different. Never thought I’d see this here too. 0.o;
Hackers,Bots,Gold Sellers,Mail Spams exist because of ANet's Miscalculation

How about you get rid of the gold/gem exchange and just make all items in the cash shop obtainable ingame either by buying from players or finding them through difficult quests or as a rare drop? Microtransactions should always be about convenience, and never about buying power. Arenanet’s halfway there- I can’t find anything in there that makes a buyer stronger than anyone else.
Just a thought. To be honest, every MMO I’ve ever played is plagued by bots and gold spammers. We’ll never be rid of them until we flat out arrest/kill the people in charge.
I don’t….what? Will the Rune of the Soldier’s sixth tier activate before or after “Safe Yourselves!” pulls conditions from allies?
No, I know exactly what we should get:
Signet of the Champion-
Passive: Guardian has Unshakeable
Active: Allies gain two stacks of defiant.
….Oh come on, it’s not OP at all!
According to the sixth tier of the Superior Rune of The Soldier http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune_of_the_Soldier Shouts remove a condition. If I used “Save yourselves!” and sucked up an ally’s condition, would these runes remove it? Or do the runes kick in before the condition transfer?
Arenanet doesn’t want to add targeting because they don’t want targeted healing? What’s wrong with targeted healing? What’s wrong with healing in general? What, did a doctor attack them as a kid?
Darn you beat me to it. :x Yeah, it’s about what I was expecting from him, I.E. not realizing skill points could be used later on to buy stuff.
The next major update- Quaggans as a playable race. Who doesn’t want to turn into a monster Quaggan and rampage through the undead hordes with a giant glowing sword?
You know, despite the many big flaws with the game, Arenanet’s at least trying. They could’ve been like Nexon or EA and just completely stop giving a kitten about its player base, releasing more things to suck money out of our wallets and ignoring the rampant hacking and botting going on. At least Arenanet’s working on getting rid of bots. :O
Raiding? Oh, you mean WvW.
Yeah, but is there a way to get that high of a damage reduction? Pretty sure we’re stuck at a maximum of 43%.
The point was that damage reduction becomes worth more the more you have of it if it stacks additively like you suggest.
And my point was it doesn’t matter because current mechanics don’t allow us to get that high anyway, otherwise all guardians would do 100% damage reduction. I don’t care if it reduces my damage to 0, I could finally be a tank again. T-T When you have mechanics that are possible (i.e. 100% crit build) people will find ways of getting it. We don’t have that. The most we can do is 40-43%. Still good, though.
It stacks linearly. It will end up as 43% damage reduction.
Linearly in the sense that if you have 33% damage reduction from protection and you have another source with 10% damage reduction, you are taking 10% less damage from the 67% of damage that you were taking with protection.
Pretty sure it’s multiplicative. Going from 33% reduction to 40% reduction is still 10% less damage taken.
Disclaimer: I could be wrong, but that makes the most sense to me. Rarely are mechanics like this additive in any game. That would mean that the more damage reduction you have, the more new damage reduction is worth. Additive stacking also allows for 100% reduction assuming there is no artificial cap.
Consider an edge case. Say I have 98% damage reduction. I go from 98 to 99% damage reduction. In reality, that increase causes me to take 50% less damage than I did before.
Yeah, but is there a way to get that high of a damage reduction? Pretty sure we’re stuck at a maximum of 43%.
It’s pretty random how aggro works, but I don’t think you’ll have to worry about people luring mobs onto you. If they’re normal mobs you should be able to handle it assuming you’re not afk (and why would you afk in a danger zone?). Plus they only have a certain range they’ll follow a player before giving up and going back. Be thankful that’s there, otherwise you’ll have trolls collecting all the enemies on a map and luring them into towns and safe zones.
Three words:
Baby Quaggan Plushie.
When the bots are able to create a fort using gun turrets and 15 rangers circling the area, killing everything in sight, you know you have problems. The reason Ragnarok fell wasn’t because the developers focused too much on bots, it was the bots themselves. They are a disease. They ruin the economy, lag down the lesser players in areas, and in general annoy us with their pointless spamming. They undermine us by teleport hacking and insulting us by reviving themselves with another character on their own account, ruining any chance of us luring mobs on top of them. Some of my favorite games were destroyed by bots. One in particular had an economy so messed up the equivalent of a level 80 masterwork item would cost you 150 gold. The community being elitist didn’t help either, and in combination the game just collapsed. People are already pretty arrogant in this game, who knows how long it’ll be before prices are so high you’ll have to use gems to buy ingame gear. I say make it illegal to use these programs and locate/arrest the botters. If 4chan can get every piece of personal information on you based on one post on their hate-filled boards, then we should be able to locate these cheating kittens via their hundreds of accounts.
Here’s an idea that might give players an incentive to report bots- every account they report (not the bot, but the account the bots are on) and is successfully dealt with the players kittenported it get one silver coin. 15 bots running around, that’s 15 silver just for right clicking some program’s name. And I say successful reports, meaning after the account’s been looked into and banned, to keep people from reporting their friends for free money.

I agree with you totally, I would love to have a female with meat on her bones. I’m actually surprised people think these characters are “fat”. You have seen fat girls before, right? Even the largest option on the largest character is average weight.
I know Arenanet’s working on this, and I know you’re all sick of us complaining about bots, BUT COME ON!
They have permanently overloaded rocket turrets set up on the rocks with ranger bots circling them. If anything spawns nearby it’s immediately killed by an onslaught of homing attacks from various sources. They’re not even farming, they’re just circling the same rock over and over. I don’t know if some event spawns there, I literally stepped foot in the region 15 minutes ago, but they’re deliberately insulting your intelligence by doing this! It’s like some child in the back of the bus mooning you while you’re stuck in traffic, and the bus driver knows he’s doing it because the other kids are cheering him on but he can’t do anything about it because he’s busy driving the kitten thing. This is really going too far!
And yes, those are all bots. A couple are players coming by to see what I’m blabbing about, and I’m betting the engies are hacked accounts, but you can clearly see the ranger bots with unnamed pets, identical color schemes, and Chinese names. you want to see for yourself? Kaneing, Harathi Hinterlands, near the southern part of the map at shorebluff camp, northwest of shieldbluff waypoint.

Being someone who’s always played a tank, or the closest thing to it in this game, I’d actually prefer it if the mob focused on me instead of others. What I find funny is how random the aggro is- I could be standing nearby, not even doing anything (maybe looking at my map to find the next POI), and the mob will ignore the group and beeline for me. Enemies in this game really do not like pink armor. :x
Basically, we’re shuckle after a few acupressures.
I mean besides the sandwhichmancer. overpowered piece of….what kind of trait gives you an 85% chance to turn people into a sammich?
The only armor I can see with power/toughness/vitality is norn’s cultural armor, but I don’t know how good it is compared to end game loot and it’ll cost 119 gold for the level 80’s set. I’d kill for a healing power/toughness/vitality armor set and matching mace/focus/staff/jewelry. ;~;
Will more classes ever be released? I’m not complaining, just curious. You could have a contest for a new class where players submit an idea along with weapons they feel the class could use (new and old) and their abilities, traits, and unique attribute (i.e. virtues for guardians, tool kit for Engineers, life force for necromancers, etc.)
If you look at the naming rules for example, I think it is pretty clear that Anet is steering very clear of anything that may infringe on any copy right issues.
Also, trust me, you will find a good deal of varying shield aesthetics as the game moves on.
That won’t stop them from hovering their hand over the infringement going “I’m not touching it! I’m no touching it!” in a childish voice. Guardians get a skill called Shield Of The Avenger. It’s passive isn’t special, but it’s active ability throws itself like a boomerang at enemies, Captain America style. I wouldn’t be surprised if they release a skill for a round metal shield with a star on it called General Kryta soon.
I’m kinda wanting to try this build out, it seems fun. I’m not too familiar with engineers, but I need to ask, wouldn’t Elixir S work better than Elixir R or B? not only do you get stun break but according to the description you get to evade attacks. Wouldn’t that be better for trying to stay alive?
The initial post leads me to believe the thread should be about how OP a thief is instead of how we don’t need the trinity. I never played a thief, but after seeing one one-shot a veteran mob I’m willing to listen to arguments about how they’re overpowered.
In terms of the trinity, the trinity hold together more than you think. If one side falls, the other two take over. In this case, two sides are down. Since most players kite or dodge and healing’s terrible, defense has lost its purpose and is essentially useless. That leaves power left. And if there’s only one aspect of the trinity left you get dominate strategies forming- why be anything else if power always works? It’ll be less about having a unique build and having variety and more about who has the bigger numbers. Like in other MMOs
The trinity is a paper-rock-scissors effect that balances the three archetypes: Tanks hold the attention of enemies but have poor damage output, DPS does the damage but won’t be able to take a hit, and healing keeps them alive but could draw attention to themselves if the tank’s not there to protect them. If you got rid of healing all you have left is a tank and DPS. If you make enemies hit so hard or do so much in condition damage that no amount of defense will save you, then no one will play a tank. All that’s left is DPS. The trinity is essential to proper strategy because it gives players purpose. People seem to be under the impression that the trinity forces players to play a certain way- not so. If you give all classes at least two viable options of play (i.e. a DPS warrior vs. a tank warrior vs. a buffer warrior) then players can pick and choose who to play. And if all classes have three forms of gameplay, that’s 24 “advanced” classes you can choose from, each having their own unique form of gameplay. All this would take to come to fruition is a rebalancing to make condition damage (done by the players at least), healing power, toughness, and vitality more potent.
Or you can just click an enemy, press 1, and hold down W all while caring only how big your bow is. Whatever works.
I remember a skill in another game that basically made the player bunker down in one spot. They took at least 50% less damage (maybe even less depending on their defenses), were immune to knock back and stun, and could attack anything in range without worry. The only downside is they couldn’t move from their spot. I feel this would greatly benefit some guardians- the equivalent would be being immobilized for 60 seconds or so, gaining regeneration, stability, and protection (or a more powerful version of protection) for the duration while having access to all your skills. The cool down, naturally, is very high but if used right could save you in a potentially dangerous scenario.
I always hear Warriors say they wish they had gone guardian....
in Guardian
Posted by: Aramanth.1546
I came into this game thinking I could abide by the holy trinity and come out on top. I’ve always played a tank and enjoyed protecting others, so I naturally went with the GUARDian. It wasn’t until later that I learned warriors not only have superior HP and defense but get a legitimate block on their shield skill, and defense/healing is entirely useless in most situations because in the field I was laughed at for not one shotting everything and in the dungeons I get 2 shotted by EVERYTHING anyway. Apparently there’s some sort of infinite endurance combo I’m not aware of because all I hear is dodge, dodge, dodge. Some of those skills are spammed, you can’t dodge every one! The problem with dodge is it undermines the value of 2/3 of the tactics in all MMOs- protecting others and keeping them alive. It’ll eventually come down to who can hit the hardest, which just destroys all strategy if all we care about are numbers. A single build will be considered superior to all others, and everyone will choose it. The variety and diversity Arenanet talked about for this game will disappear as everyone lines up to be a DPS warrior or mage. A part of me wishes I could just jump on the bandwagon early and switch to a thief or something for pure damage, but another part wishes tanking was still viable in every area other than the map 40 levels lower than you.
The only thing I can think of is what if all blocks counted as an aegis? I.e. Shield of Wrath would give you a stack of 3 aegis instead of three blocks. Imagine bonuses from traits….
