They have an extremely tempestuous, on-again-off-again “friendship”. They’re both obsessed with the other. Rytlock is insanely jealous of the queen’s hold on Logan, and Logan’s personality can largely be summed up as “how can I get Rytlock to like me again”.

Wow. You have read a lot into this that simply isn’t there. Rytlock and Logan were friends until Logan chose to defend the queen rather than stay with his group, so a member that everyone loved was killed. This is the source of their fighting; there’s no on-again/off-again thing about it. Obsession is an exaggeration. Rytlock isn’t jealous of Jenna; he’s angry that Logan’s choice resulted in their failing their mission and Snaff dying. Not the same emotions at all.

That’s your interpretation and yours alone. Others have a different view of the situation.

Its not his alone. Logan deserted his comrades in battle. Jenna should have had him executed… Even though he was obeying her, he did so by fleeing his comrades.

Any anger Rytlock feels towards him is more than justified.

Logan is basically why our characters have to go off and fight some dragons, because he is a deserter that doomed the world.

After reading the novels, I pretty much expected this game to launch with Logan as a dungeon boss we had to kill.

Rytlock forgives him the same way Churchill got on with Stalin: There wasn’t any friendship there, there was necessity.

That’s a fine and valid viewpoint. I myself don’t like Logan as a person either, however I may perceive his relationships. Still, that is also only your interpretation.

shrugs It’s not really about what I want or anyone else wants or interpretations/assumptions but about what there’s actual evidence for. That’s what I’m saying.

You sound angry. lol No offense intended. This is just one of those silly, fun discussions about fiction.

Perhaps it’s simply that I have no patience for people who make their personal biases plain, yet declare their opinions unassailable fact and condescendingly dismiss all other views as misguided. Especially when they suggest they can offer compelling “evidence” but then, of course, don’t actually do so.

And no evidence they aren’t.

There’s actually a lot of evidence that they aren’t, but I think we’re a touch off-topic here, so I won’t spell it all out.

Since any “evidence” you might present is clearly animated by your foregone conclusion that it can’t be what you don’t want it to be, that’s certainly the best choice.

People seem to be ignoring that the game’s biggest romance is Rytlock/Logan.

(Also Jennah/Anise is a thing.)

The games biggest romance is actually Me and Trehearne, but Anet has to complete their partnership with Bioware to allows us to seduce our allies before they finally add it to LS. Bioware will also include 1000 new microtranactions in every single crevice of the game along with it so hopefully the nude scenes are extra HQ AAA.

This won’t end well.

I’m not saying they realize it themselves, but I see their attraction to each other as very romance-based. It sure as heck fits the term “bromance” at the very least.

Mesmers speed: Signet of Inspitation

in Mesmer

Arshay Duskbrow.1306

What Ross said…but I think the signet would function better as a flat 25% buff like other similar signet passives as well the extra boon (possibly excluding swiftness, but I would hope not—you always run fast, and sometimes you run really fast).

How is 25% “better” than 33%? Also the fact that as a boon, you’ll be able to spread swiftness onto others if you want. There’s literally only upsides to it being perma-swiftness as opposed to a non-boon 25% increase.

No matter what anyone else says, no matter what positive spin people try to put on it, Thieves are getting even stronger and we will still have no way to deal with them. Short of receiving active stealth-canceling abilities, Mesmer is and will remain a “PvP-centric” profession that can’t PvP because we are effectively deleted from the game by another profession.

I’ve given up PvPing as a Mesmer, solely due to thieves. There is no more completely one-sided profession matchup in the game. Stealth is a broken mechanic we have absolutely no way of dealing with. It’s a joke even to the devs, but they’re sure as heck not doing anything about it.

Arshay Duskbrow.1306

Stop arguing from one extreme or the other. It shouldn’t be a baseline. I don’t care how useful it would be, I’m a control freak and I dislike random clones popping out unless that’s a choice I made. This matters a lot in high-level fractals where maintaining three phantasms is hard enough.

However, nor should it have been a GM. It was already in its correct position, a mid-tier trait. According to their stated criteria for GM traits, it does not “define your build” unless your build is phantasm vs. EVERYTHING ELSE a Mesmer does. If they wanted to make it a GM trait, it should’ve had more effects added onto it.

Actually all three GM Dueling traits seem lackluster to me for that position. Harmonious Mantras is still not enough to make mantras good, and Mistrust is…a tiny AoE of confusion very occasionally.

Meanwhile, all three of the master traits are must-haves…

Correct me if I’m wrong, but creating a clone does not overwrite a phantasm, unless that’s all there is to overwrite. If there’s a clone, it will only replace that clone.

Consider yourself corrected. A clone created by anything will overwrite a third phantasm if there are three out.

That’s not correct. All former profession-specific traitline bonuses are going to be made half baseline, half trait. In other words, the base recharges will go down 15% from current (yes that’s another buff), the other 15% will come from the Illusions trait.

Proposed Changes for Engineer Turrets

in PvP

Posted by: Arshay Duskbrow.1306

Arshay Duskbrow.1306

A “solution” that as usual fails to address the main problem: for all that Anet loves to talk about “active play”, this is one of the most passive, leave-it-to-the-AI builds in the game. Turrets need reduced uptime, reduced life. They should have the same (lack of) durability as a Mesmer’s phantasms. If an Engineer wants to upkeep 2-3 turrets, they should have to work for it with constant, active refreshes.

Also, this does nothing to address placing turrets in inaccessible locations, as mentioned above.

Fiery Dragon Sword sfx issues since patch.

Since the patch, the Fiery Dragon Sword’s formerly almost unnoticeable flaming sound effect has two issues:

1. It has become extremely loud relative to audio settings, as if you were standing right next to a roaring inferno. Actually quite annoying.

2. If you swap away to a weapon set which does not have an FDS, the sound effect will persist in the location you last had it out. You can even walk away from the spot, at which point you’ll cease hearing it, and then walk right back to the same place and the sound will still be playing at that location.

Anyone else with the same issue?

According to Colin Johanson, Guild Wars 2 Game Director, Super Adventure Box will be back in the future. We don’t have a timeframe for the return of the SAB, but we will be bringing back this popular content.

I know you would like more details, more info, a date, etc., but that’s not available right now. I hope the above comment reassures you, though, because at the core, the important answer is that yes, SAB will be back in the future.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I don’t quite understand your train of thought. You don’t want it, so therefore it shouldn’t return, however no one is forcing you to play the SAB. So instead of letting the people who want to play it, play it, you decide to rally against something that would have literally no effect on you or your life. I don’t understand. Anyone against the SAB, please, tell me why. You have zero obligation to play the SAB, and it has zero effect on you. I can’t think of a single good reason anyone would be against bringing it back permanently.

Maybe because we would prefer the developers to spend their time, money, and resources on something else, such as, say, actually continuing to flesh out the real game, instead of on an unrelated game-within-a-game.

Feedback/Questions: Town clothes, Costumes, & Combat

Arshay Duskbrow.1306

Since there’s a lot of negativity in this thread, I’d just like to say I appreciate the effort the devs are making. Contrary to what the forum warriors demanding to get their way believe, ArenaNet does not have unlimited time, resources, and personnel to spend on completely reworking large parts of the game’s already-entrenched structure. They are probably just as frustrated at the imperfect solution as a lot of people here, so keep that in mind.

Having said that, I want to thank you for finally making town clothes useable in combat. That’s something I stridently demanded in my turn, back during the beta, and was disappointed. So thank you for finally making that possible. Also I am very much looking forward to having my mesmer wear glasses or a top hat with her normal armor, so thank you as well for making at least those pieces mixable.

The only request I would like to make is that the all-in-one outfit system should ideally function just as GW1’s costume system did, which did allow mixing and matching of head and body costume pieces – and with the additional ability to display them in tandem with body and head armor pieces, respectively. (As an example, imagine displaying the Pirate outfit as your body piece with the Magnus’ Eyepatch armor piece, or conversely, displaying the Chef Hat outfit headgear with your normal armor.)

That would be good enough for me – and as that was also a system that was implemented later in the game’s life (actually very late in the game’s life), I’ll continue to hope this will be made possible. Even so, I’m very grateful for the changes you are making, and I hope you won’t be discouraged by the people shouting here, who are apparently so fixated on keeping what they had in the past that they overlook the fact these changes are creating new channels through which to deliver future cosmetic releases, and thus hopefully making outfit and clothing options as the game moves forward much more dynamic. Thanks again.

You misread. Only the promotional items (things you got when you visited PAX or something along those lines) will be turned into endless tonics. The other non-outfit items will become armor skins you can trasnmute onto your in-combat armor.

Source: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/45944258-Town-Clothes

You misread. "Some promotional town clothing, such as the Dragon Emblem T-shirt and retired town clothes such as the hoodies, will become endless tonics which allow you to continue to wear the clothing in non-combat situations. "

“Retired town clothes” means anything not currently in the gem store, and includes all of the following:

Chest clothing

Casual Hoodie
Cherry Blossom Shirt
Country Lace Gathered Shirt
Designer Hoodie
Fitted Casual Shirt
Layered Vest
Leather Hoodie
Ornate Ruched Shirt
Silk Brocade Vest with Shirt
Striped Silk Vest with Shirt

Hand clothing

Boxing Gloves

Leg clothing

Khaki Cargo Shorts

…or in other words, everything that is NOT a)headgear or b)an all-in-one set.

And i take it, Reading Glasses can now be used as armor skin for headgear?

Because it’s a single item it will become a tonic.

I thought they said that PROMOTIONAL items would become tonics? The glasses count as that? I hope not, because I was really looking forward to being able to wear glasses in combat. =/

PEOPLE WHO WORE TOWN CLOTHES DID NOT CARE THEY ARE NOT USABLE INCOMBAT

Is that really that difficult to understand? We care a lot more about mixing and matching that giving a crap about them being usable in combat. Come on. That’s just dense.

Let me go ahead and correct you, since you don’t seem to understand you’re not speaking for everyone: A lot of people hated that town clothes couldn’t be used in combat. This is something I’ve been frustrated about since beta, and I’m supremely happy they are finally fixing it.

It is a perfect solution? No. I also wish that mixing and matching were still possible, but I understand and accept why it isn’t. I recommend you try to do the same, instead of ranting futilely about it and pretending you’re a spokesperson for the rest of us, which you aren’t.

Braham’s guilt and Taimi having to learn to live with her condition would have been excellent character building opportunities.

Romance Repetition

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Arshay Duskbrow.1306

Arshay Duskbrow.1306

The reason why I feel it’s wrong to accuse it is because heterosexual relationships, being the usual norm as they are, are represented in more then 90% of every stories, including books, movies, video games, comics, etc. Most*stories don’t even touch the subject of homosexuality, or anything that is out of the norm.

We, as heterosexuals, are represented more then enough, to the point where it has become so stale, boring and overdone, that we’re expecting such things to happen in every major story we come across. And all of sudden, you don’t feel “represented enough” because once in 100 years your “privileged right”, and what is natural to YOU has been taken away from you. We live in age where everybody has gone lazy and we go through life with a sense of entitlement like everything belongs to us even though we don’t deserve it.

And for once, I think that something that is less commonly seen deserves to be represented more. They’re not pushing a social agenda on you, me or anyone else – if you have a problem with it, you create your own agenda behind it.

It is alright if you don’t like it, or can’t even relate to it, but demanding to be represented more, when you’re clearly over-represented in almost every form of media (often in a really forced and annoying fashion where the woman will end up with a man no matter what) would be the same as me complaining there isn’t enough white people featured in leading roles in movies.

Thank you, CharrGirl, for saving me the trouble of writing just such a post. I couldn’t have put it better – although the number is more like 99.9%. Heterosexuality is trumpeted from the rooftops all day, every day. It is a never-ending party celebrating how awesome guy-on-girl/girl-on-guy is supposed to be. It is everywhere, a ceaseless blaring media inundation of self-congratulation, and non-heterosexual individuals are expected and forced to put up with it every moment of their lives.

But the moment WE get some representation that is beyond the very occasional token single example, oh no! How threatening! How dare someone spoil the party! Heterosexuality is suddenly so downtrodden and underrepresented!

Does it not occur to you how irrational and petty that sounds?

Well, I’ll stop here. I know I’m wasting my time, and as I pointed out, CharrGirl said it all perfectly anyway, but it’s just too ridiculous to hear heterosexuals whine that there’s not enough het in their media.

Thank you for making a healthy, happy, functioning, and non-obsessive lesbian relationship. Caithe/Faolain is most certainly none of those things, and I find people trying to draw any parallel between the two couples to be very foolish.

I enjoy Kasmeer and Marjory, both for their own selves and for their fun and cute interactions together. It doesn’t feel “forced” at all. On the contrary, their relationship and care for each other seems very natural and well-written – much better written than a lot of the stuff in this game, I have to add, which is doubtless one big reason why they’ve become so popular.

That’s all I wanted to say. There’s a lot of negativity and needless, endless circular debates about the motives of the writers, and I simply wanted to counterbalance that with some appreciative words. These characters and their relationship have increased my enjoyment of the game. Thank you for making them.

The above poster is a scholar and a gentleman and he is absolutely right about the music.

Lady, not gentleman. She, not he.

Where is the 8-bit logon music?

Excuse me, but the 8-bit version of the GW2 theme that played on the character select screen when SAB first debuted in April does not seem to have reappeared. This is a very serious issue, and I hope and request that it be addressed in an expeditious manner. Thank you.
