I just wish there were a few more cub models.
“Tomorrow I get my first REAL weapon!”
thanks for all the responds, I started another warrior. really looking forward gearing him up at 80, gonna be awesome
thanks again.
Good choice. I think Charr heavies look the best. T1, T3, and Vigil heavy armor are my favs. Remember if you have a decent collection of Fine and Normal Transmutation stones and enough money to buy the armor, you can have any or all of these armor looks slapped on your armor sets at any level. When you upgrade your armor, just keep transmuting the look over!
All the Charr, all the time.
Got 4, myself.
My problem with Charr platforming is that the Charr are so big the camera starts freaking out when I’m anywhere near a tight space. It’s truly annoying.
…I’ve no problem with most jumping puzzles, even the timed ones like the Halloween puzzle … Troll’s End keeps insisting on shoving the camera into some remarkably awkward slanted first-person viewpoints even on a fairly short Charr female.
This is still true—the camera tends to freak out over very minor things, even things like rocks on the ground in an otherwise open field. A claustrophobic place like Troll’s End is havoc. You really just have to know how to do it by heart. It was impossibly frustrating back when there was a bug that got the camera stuck inside objects and it wouldn’t move at all. That was really where I learned Troll’s End.
The person who designed the puzzle seems like a really bad choice of person to test how well other people will be able to handle the puzzle…
The QA team tests them too. Dunno if they try it on max size Charr and Norn and with varying camera axis slider settings though. If not, they should, and they should have people who are awful at jumping puzzles do them too.
I still believe firmly in doing all the JPuzz on my Charr. This kind of content is a reward in-and-of itself to complete and the fact it may be a bit more challenging on Charr makes it that much sweeter for me.
The majority of the Charr guilds I know are med-heavy RP based and centered on the Tarnished Coast server. Mine is there, as are our allies, each catering to different Legions, with their own histories, etc.
So I guess what I’m saying is, if you’re looking for a Charr racial RP guild on Tarnished Coast, your options are bountiful. On other servers, or Charr guilds with non-RP focus, your mileage may vary.
Dustfinger and Isredel gave good resources as far as what I mentioned. They’re out there! Find the one that’s right for you =)

“TAKE HEED! I haven’t taken leave of my senses! …”
Yes you have, woman. Yes you have.
Black Citadel
“…kitten’s got claws…” (and everything said in the Serrated Blade)
“…left the mark of an educated Charr…”
“…what we need is a new Khan-Ur.”
We have jokes about all those NPCs but really, the “Take heed” woman was the worst because all the others are on timers and she speaks every time someone comes within 10 miles of her. Spend 60 seconds on the mercantile platform, hear that line 12 times XD
I’d just like to add that I’ve seen Ash Legion warriors. Ash heavies are pretty few and far between but they’re out there. If you want to see one anytime, use your warband support elite as an Ash Charr.
(Reposting my response to a similar question from another thread.)
As the self-proclaimed resident expert on Ash Legion uniforms, I’ll go ahead and list out the full set:
Dyes:
In many cases, you can get away with using Black dye in place of Abyss, even though it isn’t technically correct. Sometimes you have to go with what’s in your budget
The cases of special colors used can be found with certain NPCs. I’ve seen 2 separate female Ash Legionnaires wearing a muted “lavender” color for the sleeves on the coat (I’ve not taken the time to determine the dye used). Sentinels have the main and secondary panels on just their gloves colored gold (also haven’t taken the time to figure out the exact dye). As such, I take this as a “go ahead” within the lore that sometimes the uniform is slightly customized to the wearer when warranted.
Light Armor set:
Medium:
Heavy:
The nice thing about going with a “canon uniform” is it accounts for tail clipping. The worst culprit is our medium armor, but it is hidden under a secondary flap so it isn’t horribly blatant.
It should also be noted that there are Ash Legion soldiers in full drover (T1 medium), as seen in Fireheart Rise on the “Ash Legion Agent”. He seems to be in standard “Engineer” blue dye colors though.
Nobody believes they are evil. Even the worst of bad guys believe they are doing the right thing from their perspective.
The concept of retaliation, warring, scorched earth policy, torture, etc. being wrong is seen from a perspective that may not necessarily apply in Tyria and most certainly doesn’t apply as the Charr see it. Besides that, the world isn’t really pressuring them to change and is actually seeking to end war with them, rather than saying outright “They are evil and wrong and we need to stop them from it.”
The Charr warred with the Forgotten before the humans arrived, but it is not clear if/when they took over the lands known as Ascalon. The Forgotten used to cover the entire world as an apex race, but eventually were pushed out and back to the Crystal Desert, in part due to humans as well. So whose claim to Ascalon is “right” still, and always will remain a matter of perspective.
As for all the strife and destruction that the humans sustained in the past, that was largely the work of Abaddon. He used humans and Charr alike to manipulate events leading up to his (almost) freedom.
There’s also a point at which you can actually begin the process of falling, but still jump. It’s a point at which you must learn well if you want to make every jump without swiftness because it essentially allows you to jump after the platform you’re on.
I’m not sure if the same is true for other races—I’d guess so, but if I’m going to be honest, I’ve never done a single jumping puzzle on any other race than Charr. It just comes down to what you’re accustomed to and that only comes through practice. Treat the entire world as your jumping puzzle and you’ll get the hang of it in no time
I agree. I would say show/hide tickboxes for everything…
except pants. That would just be weird.
Asura dance is best dance.
But
None can deny the power of 15+ Charr all perfectly starting a sync’d Haka while in formation. I, too wish for the angry chanting to accompany it.
I swear they’ve gone and cut holes for certain armors (some cultural and dungeon pants) in an update, or I just forgot that those slots were ever there to begin with in the infrequent number of times I’ve looked. In either case, they looked pretty bad. It was pretty clear that it was a transparency trick as the left and right sides of the “flaps” moved with each other as the tail sways—they’re clearly attached as one contiguous unit, despite there being a transparent gap.
Clipping is abound with the head and tail, but I would really prefer to see the “tail flaps” on everything Charr, rather than holes. Look at T3 and T2 heavy pants and town clothes pants, that is how it should be done! Heck even the medium armor Duelist coat was designed to work right.
They had everything I wanted.
There was no choice, really.
I don’t like the guy. Nobody I knows likes the guy. They can all come up with better explanations than I can. Know why? I haven’t really felt a “hook” or really anything to draw me into caring. I can’t come up with any reason better to hate or like him than has already been brought up but I just don’t care enough to like him and he doesn’t help me along to.
I was having way more fun just doing oddjobs for the Tribune as a Legionnaire in the PS.
You know who I’d follow in to kill the Elder Dragons happily? Commander Shepard—oh wait, that was me.
Definitely T3 cultural. Start saving up!
The other cultural helms aren’t bad either but the 2-piece “dragon look” of T3 is my fav. Some of the dungeon helms look all right, and the Vigil helmet is ok if you want a more “Roman” look.
For medium armor, I am a fan of the Drover (Cultural T1) mask and the Thief Anonymity hood that Gwalchgwn mentioned. The “goggles” are easy to come by and actually come in a couple different styles.
Light armor, ~shrug~ I don’t have any scholar Charr, but I’ve seen both the hoods and cultural masks on others looking decent.
I keep waiting for a helmet like this (one on the right):
We’ve got tons. There’s a very nice mix of male/female Charr on Tarnished Coast, and of all sizes, shapes, coats, you name it. Rarely do you see any two that look super similar, with maybe the exception of the “white tiger look” that seems to be popular around here. The diversity in Charr is wonderfully alive and apparent, and it is a good thing.
Even many of the players who DO make female charr, follow gender roles. They make their female very slim, and choose one of the cuter or more delicate faces, because the female=pretty & sexy ideal is so strong in society. The concept of huge, muscular females or mean/scary/war-torn females still seems out-of-place to most gamers.
The “hotness” point is certainly valid—I’ve got friends who refused to play Charr because they wanted to play something “sexy.” Of course, even the smallest Charr you can make is still pretty dang big and strong compared to the “human standard.”
Charr have their own following, and I for one feel the strong, independent, and socially equal females of the race are quite appealing. My own female Charr characters are designed to fit their roles: my Blood Legion is huge, bulky, boisterous, and overbearing. My Ash Legion one is more average sized, light-footed and quiet.
How do you know Charr don’t look like that from the moment they hatch out of the egg?
Hahahahah! Oh man, that’s the best thing I’ve read all day! XD
And yeah, tiny adult-Charr, standard-issue loincloth or coveralls for the kits, same fur pattern for all cubs.
Inject some diversity into the young’uns! One of the great things I see in the Charr playerbase is how varied everyone looks on the whole.
Huh, I thought I saw something odd on the Sentinels in Blazeridge but I couldn’t quite place it. It was this! They are wearing gold T3 shoulders and I distinctly remember thinking they looked weird for some reason, and now I know why.
That is too bad, because I saw a female Charr player in full T3 not too long ago and thought it looked really good. I wonder when that model change happened?
Also, I really hope “differentiation” in female vs male armor doesn’t happen. The fact armor is the same between both is an enormous plus to me.
Anyone know if there anything that resemble Ash Legion medium armor?. I found some Ash Legion recipes but that was for tailoring. =/

I had no issues with the gladium sire storyline… but then, I chose to execute him. Making a decision that makes sense to a charr just happened to lead to a part of the story that makes sense for the charr.
I did that as well, and it is a much better choice in terms of story cohesion. It doesn’t excuse the very valid opinions expressed above though. Neither does it really change the fact that the “Centurion promotion” is very odd and abrupt, and kind of needless.
Everyone I’ve talked to had a “wait, what??” moment at it.
There are no instant death abilities. All have warnings and can be countered with dodge at the minimum.
Instant death would be getting Death Touched by Cazic-Thule. Big difference. You are correct as far as I have seen. But I think your example is only going to make sense to 2 other people that play this game.
Cazic Thule shouts: Icey!
LOADING: PLEASE WAIT…
I am one of those two. I’ve even played as ridiculously tough bosses in live events for EQ. Mmm /shapechange 30. -Losing all your gear due to falling down the well in befallen. Good times.
I think the AC Lieutenant is a fun fight. It always reminds me to pay the heck attention when I get pulled in and it can be dodged out of even if you get pulled.
I will say it is often harder to tell these kinds of death-moves while underwater due to the lack of warning rings and significantly higher density of effects around the boss.
The ones who actually gave trait advice, gave good advice. At that level, feel it out. When you get your lv40 book, all of your traits reset, allowing you to rebuild them however you want to—same when you get your level 60 book.
I’d also suggest hopping into the Heart of the Mists to test trait and stat builds to see what suits your style. I spend a lot of time there and I never sPvP—I just test for explorable dungeons.
I will say this much: after level 40, give traps a try with their related trait(s). I feel like traps put the other utility lines to shame (I’m looking at you, spirits and signets!).
I like this idea for a future expansion.
Whips and guns? Now if I can just make a human that looks exactly like Indiana Jones….

Any likeness or similarities to certain Vigil Generals is purely coincidental.
In all fairness, it isn’t really the most intuitive thing to enter so many instances (5!) to get a 100% map completion there—especially when you have never been there and are completely foreign to Charr design (one may not even think those big red things are even doors!).
That said, It is clearly the best city ever. Once you “get it,” it all makes sense.
This isn’t a problem isolated to Medium armor only. My hope is they eventually hack away at fixing this over time. Fix the bugs and broken stuff first, but someday I would just love to look back at today and say “Remember when tails and horns used to clip really badly on the armor? I’m so glad they changed all that!”
EQ2 certainly does do a lot of things nicely. This issue, and housing to name a couple.
Feycat: Look into the Pit Fighter lv70ish chest, it’s probably as close as you can get.
We (an all-Charr guild) all agree with what’s been said here. All the clipping, all the time… makes us sad. Get someone to copy-paste a tail-piece onto the armors if nobody is up to the challenge of making Charr-specific armor fitting on all the armor—at least that would be something!
Won’t help all the weird stretching of a lot of the bottoms though.
- You, and everyone you know now all suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome. It hurts just typing this response!
(true story)
I think the armor system is fine but as far as looks go, I wouldn’t be opposed to there being an “exotic” level Transmutation Stone that could do this, as previously suggested. There’s more than a few of us RPers who would love the option to transmute some of the looks of armor we normally cannot wear on certain characters.
Of course it is true what the sPvPers argue here in terms of looks but sPvP is already such a PvE-removed system (what with PvP armor/weapons and builds being “saved” separately) that I don’t think it would be hard to simply flag all PvP gear un-transmutable in that manner. In WvW, opposing teams see you in generic armor anyway so no need to make changes there.
There would be no “best” armor to switch to in terms of game mechanics—it would simply be a matter of looks-only. Of course, such a thing is really more appropriate to bring up in the Suggestions Forum.
I’m finding I cannot transmute any equipped armor after having patched today.
Verified as not working:
Procedure:
1- Begin with two pieces of armor you can equip and at least 1 Basic Transmutation Stone.
2- Ensure one piece of armor is equipped on your character.
3- Double-click transmutation stone to open the transmute window.
4- Drag-and-drop the equipped piece of armor to one side, drag the 2nd piece to the other side.
5- Pick the look, stats, and upgrades as-desired.
6- Press “Item Transmutation.”
OBSERVE:
The window vanishes as though successful, but both items return to the inventory unchanged and no transmutation stone is used-up (the counter will remain the same if you have several in a stack).
Prior to the patch, it was possible to transmute armor that was equipped on your person.

I’ll agree with a slight increase. It really doesn’t need that much more to make me happy with it.
I’ll agree that increased size is the main reason I keep that trait on when I’m running a trap build. Sometimes I get a little annoyed that throwing them is more trouble than it’s worth when I’m kiting around 6-7 enemies but that is not a problem with the skill inasmuch as it is a problem with the UI in highly mobile combat.

Guys: Charr J-Puzz’ling is just expert-mode. Challenge: accepted!
If you’re knocking those puzzles out on your Charr, welcome to the club of the elite. You giant Norn can be honorary members too!
This needs to happen.
It does seem steep for an (albeit quite awesome) armor skin. Heck—you gotta pay for the fine transmute stones too, unless you get pretty lucky with map completion rewards.
I suppose you could be buying it for stats, but you can get yourself a full set of exotic armor crafted-to-order with exactly the stats and runes you want for the price of the chest piece alone o.o
7-10g each would be more reasonable, IMO. It wouldn’t address the problem of people having already paid the price for them now though. I highly doubt any refunds would be given if the price was adjusted lower.
Ah indeed. I’m always having to hit that button to counteract that effect. I’d say it’s ok to auto-sheathe after combat, but if you specifically un-sheathe using the keybinding, they should stay out until you put them away again (or enter combat, and thus enable the timer). That would be a good compromise for me, to ensure the non-RPers aren’t always running around with their weapons out =p
Definitely have thought about this, but I don’t think there will be nearly enough clamor for it to happen.
Also: dat Charr greatsword walking anim.
Personally as a player I dislike using pets in general. So one addition I would add is the ability for the ranger to completely turn off pets and just play solo. Especially in groups and dungeons.
One solution I can think of that could be implemented without much difficulty would simply be to make the “stow pet” feature a permanent toggle—the pet would not come back out unless specifically called out. Falling damage, loading another area, taking damage, none of that would affect it anymore.
If that happened though, I would want a keybinding for that button.
I agree. I’ve often found myself wanting to dye one or more parts of a weapon to better coordinate it with my look.
I kind of like the idea of increasing difficulty overall, but in a manner that makes playing tactically a little more necessary. Just upping the armor value and HP of something prolongs the fight, but doesn’t make it more challenging with the throngs of people involved in many boss events.
During off-peak hours, our server does indeed experience zones where many of the events go to full-failure mode. I cannot speak for Queensdale/Kessex or Orr as I avoid going to those places =p
I’ve often felt like the most fun to be had fighting in an event is taking on a Champion group event with just 2 or 3 people. That is absolutely a blast—it always results in many close-calls and going down, and requires playing well. If they could capture that kind of encounter for larger groups, I’d be a really happy camper.
I do not like the idea of playing to lose on purpose, but I understand the desire to experience the variated content that results from certain event failures. The idea that every so often, a “forced-failure” happens to send event chains back the other way might work, provided that everyone going in knows they are playing a “survival mode” type of game in which success is defined by how many waves you can withstand before succumbing to the enemy.
Which is to say, being forced to fail isn’t generally considered fun.
Perhaps there is cause to request being able to join an overflow instance of a map that has a low population so that content can be played sans the zerg?
I used to whine about travel costs but I don’t anymore.
A high average of 2s is reasonable for level 80 travel, especially when used sparingly. Since I’m a cheapskate, I run everywhere on foot and I find that those places that seem so far away, really aren’t that far away once you just start running it.
Combine that with the fact a gold DE completion earns you a little over 1s at 80, and that events often chain into more events, I almost always come away with a net gain vs the travel cost.
This isn’t even mentioning that level 60+ drops vendor for between 40c and greater than 1s for greens or better. If you’re hard-up for travel money get some +Magic Find and sell your loot, people—that’s what it’s for!
All of the armor crafters in my guild have complained of this at one point or another—especially the lower tier runes which, if you tend to level your crafting tiers to match your level tiers, seem unreasonably priced.
You know, I don’t mind dropping 3-5g at once for some nice things, but I have a block in my brain that prevents me from spending 10g on a rune—I’d rather use it to get cultural armor or gems.
Tarnished Coast is considered an unofficial North American RP server. I see RP everywhere I go there. Yes, certainly in the bars and cities, but also all over the world. I love to randomly run little RP-PvE events with the guild out in the world.
Playing a homeless drunk in LA now THAT’S living. I often take a break from the grind to preform this in LA overflow to the enjoyment and annoyance of many.
My character is dressed up as a pirate. I plan to hangout in Bloodtide Coast and just /say Yarr! to anyone who pass me by. I also plan to just mumble to myself (still as /say) saying, “Now, where did I bury that treasure…”
You two are awesome. I wish more people would have just little “flavour” characters like that. It’s a lot like meeting a performer in a theme park!
No it’s not ALL tavern RP!
I’ve done SO much RP out in the wilds on Tarnished Coast, my friendlist is filling up with awesome people who love RP and do a great job, well outside of a tavern! Try talking in /say for a bit and see who pops up to join you! It’s pretty funny – I met one pair of RPers, and while I was talking to them, we collected 3 or 4 more, like moths to a lamp!
This is pretty much my experience on TC exactly. I will nab a couple of guildies and start walking out into the wilds. Before long, we’ve picked up several more into a little impromptu RP entourage
<3 you TC!
I’ve been using sword/dagger or sword/torch since about 35 when in solo or basic overworld gameplay. I always carry a full complement of weapons with me and tailor what I do to what is needed, but I always find myself gravitating back to this combo.
Primary skill chain
Hornet Sting
Serpent’s Strike
Overall, I think only a little adjustment is needed to give more consistent results with the sword without having to go through the guesswork or the workarounds to the stickiness. It is both a highly mobile, and highly immobile weapon depending on how you use it.
I cannot speak for necros but running condition/precision builds on both my ranger and warrior, I’ll have to agree to the suggestion that bleeds should be per-person and your UI should reflect only the bleeds you are applying.
If monster difficulty/HP needs to be tuned (boosted) to keep fights a fun challenge, then so be it—at least everyone running condition dmg builds will be putting in their part.
I actually would also prefer these not show up anywhere outside of WvW—there’s no point to it. One could argue the icon for large PvE meta event chains and bosses but I’m just going to reject that argument on the basis that it’s never been necessary thus far.
Keep it to WvW where it belongs.
I agree on the following points:
I’d like to add:
I haven’t had much trouble with camera motion, although I am a camera spaz and I’m constantly swinging it wildly all over the place—I guess that makes me used to its motion. But I hate the collision currently, and I can’t stand not having 1st person as an option for taking screenshots!
I have to agree that I’d like to see the ingame BWE-style event and story surveys return. Maybe you could even put in a checkbox option to “Participate in surveys.”
We didn’t have access to much of the content now available, and I’ve found myself wishing I could’ve left feedback on certain events ingame in the manner I did during the beta events.
I’ve thought about this myself. It could be something earned through the influence system—heck it could even be a temporary guild buff like “Guild members have (% money) directly deposited into the (guild bank/trove) for completing (events/dungeons/etc) for 24 hours.”
I agree with this. Seems like something that should have a dialogue box confirmation:
“Are you sure you want to kick <playername> from the guild?”
