I think they just wanted to narrow the really difficult events down to the ones who have their own metas. There’s no denying teq and triple trouble are still of significant difficulty, if not nearly impossible for random megaserver groups. They also both have completely uncapped AOEs.
Those two events are your hard modes, and they are hard modes. I’ve done 2-3 hours of boss schedule every day since megaserver update. Never once gotten triple or teq even half way done. These events have major problems in megaserver. I’ve seen a lot of guilds make very good efforts on these events, but even if they get 30 people doing the events perfectly, the 20 guys who are there scaling up the event and intentionally or unintentionally not doing what they should be guarantees a failure. If that’s what you want out of a champ train then just wait for teq and trip to come up in rotation and just attend those :P
Well since we don’t have actual weights listed we could just assume that what’s sold as gold ore on the TP is just 75 copper of gold ore by weight. Who’s to say that gold ore you’re selling is actually a giant rock of pure gold? Maybe it’s a tiny impure sample :P
Anet has already commented on upcoming content. They’ve been busy with China and they’ll tell us about new content when they have something solid to tell. They’re probably working on stuff but it might still be rough with a lot of undecided details. Some dev teams will tell the players any old thing and feel OK taking it back the next day and some dev teams want to be sure what they say is what will be. Guess which Anet is. ^^
I think a lot of the TP “lag” is actually intentional throttling to annoy/confound people’s TP scripts. It’s way too predictable to be just lags or bugs.
Cleaning up China localization isn’t keeping them so busy they can’t post a word on the forums for a month. They’re cooking up something big methinks :P
Best:
1. DAoC like WvW
2. Animation quality
3. Crafting
4. Tolerable leveling
5. Achievements system
Worst:
1. Price of upgrade remover is absurdly high. 250 gems to save your 5 laurels if you want to upgrade a ring or back in the mystic forge? Not even a remotely fair price.
2. Laurel cost on gear and infusions is absurdly high for WvW merchants. Don’t really agree with putting fairly basic gear behind such a draconian time limited currency. Would really like to see the laurel cost reduced and badge price increased for WvW ascended trinkets and infusions.
3. Teq and Triple Trouble are basically impossible with megaserver, they both scale out of control because of AFK double downs everywhere. Even if you have 30 people doing the fight perfectly there’s 30 more sitting around or outright trolling the fight every single pull now.
4. Can’t really think of any more, but those 3 are driving me batty lately.
I’m on board with this one. This junk drops everywhere from everything. It becomes irrelevant way too fast.
2 tier restriction is absurdly draconian. what extreme damage could bots do at any number above 2 tracks that they can’t do with 2 tracks?
Third time, happened again at 11:15 eastern. Whole event zone is not functioning. This time the boss spawned and he despawned as soon as everyone started shooting. Event end dialogue played and no one got any rewards.
Second time I’ve come to this event and Gamarien has despawned randomly during his escort mission and the event never continued. Playing from TC, event start at 1015 eastern, goes fine til 1018 eastern and Gamarien suddenly disappears without taking any damage and event stalls.
The laurel prices on WvW gear and infusions is just evil. I don’t think it’s right to have honor gear locked behind a currency that you can only gain 7 a week plus 10 a month, and have them cost 20-40 each plus another 5 for infusions. There’s no reasoning to it. I’m not in WvW to be on an artificial gear treadmill. I can just go play WoW for that experience.
Feels like Jormag is way overscaling. He does not award loot worthy of how long and boring his burn is. Usually have like 10 people doing the event as scripted and then 60 people standing around watching. He has the health pool for all 70 people and not the 10 people playing the event.
i’d give anything to be able to do it again, the laurel catch up for us who haven’t played since beta is astronomically brutal.
There weren’t any laurels during beta. Laurels were introduced quite some time after the release.
they’ve been out long enough to put near insurmountable gap between old and new players. don’t really see the design purpose behind putting really basic things like trinkets and infusions behind brick walls like laurels. every time i look at laurels in my currency tab i feel like a baby seal at the end of an anet club lol
i lost 5 laurels to a bad decision like turning my grey colored tempered spinal blades into a red colored tempered spinal blades. didn’t think about having to repurchase the infusion. it crushed my soul so badly i didn’t log in for 4 days. laurels are not a pleasant part of this game.
i’d give anything to be able to do it again, the laurel catch up for us who haven’t played since beta is astronomically brutal.
Not really sure where my collection of PVP items has gone to. The patch notes say they should show up once you go to HotM but I haven’t gotten any. Getting a bit concerned.
In EQ2 it were more like 4 roles, Tank, Healer, DD and Utility/Buffer like Bards. Bards were not needed in 6 player dungeon groups, but were really essential in raids.
Dark Age of Camelot made bards into a 4th class too. GW2 is very similar to that game. WvW is pretty much a carbon copy of DAoC’s RvR system, more specifically the New Frontiers version. Three borderlands surrounding a central area with capturable keeps and castles. Even the knocking down doors and walls with siege machines to kill a guild claimable NPC boss that controlled ownership of the castle was the same.
Every group needed a bard, they were the only ones who could cast swiftness effectively. Some heal and rdps could cast lesser versions, but you’d be dead in the water against a group with a bard type class because they could move twice as fast as you. I played Skald there for quite a lot of years, the Midgard faction’s bard class.
Any word on progress with this topic? How convoluted is your achievements database that it can’t handle some tweaks to a few values? Have you explored the option of moving the current broken WvW achieves to historical and releasing ones that work? What’s the real harm in that anyway, they’re as good as a gangrenous limb in their current state.
How much is know about what’s happening to these? I can’t seem to find much hunting around. I have quite a lot of this stuff and I can never seem to get the tokens I want to spend the materials on. Seems pretty rude to just straight up delete these mats with no compensation as the related article would seem to suggest.
I’m a Gw1 vet… still here. Have been since Pre-launch. Anyway that out of the way. I have to admit, I was hoping for similar expansions as in Gw1. I Hoped for Cantha…. I wanted assassins. No..Thieves are not assassins. I hoped for Ritualists. I would have been happy with either.
I also hoped for an Elona expansion. Defenitely wanted to see Dervishes in some form.
What i hoped for out of the way. What we will never get, I hope.
Mounts of any form. Every day we seem to get " hey here’s a new topic, can we get mounts?" " MMO bla bla bla has mounts…. if we don’t get Mounts ….people will leave!!!!!! ESO … bla bla bla…"
DPS Meters. No no no no no no no no no and no!
" Maybe in the next expasion they can lift the cap to 90??? why not? MMO bla bla bla raised it to 90…. they are way ahead of us!!! they have it, we should have it, if we don’t get it… ….people will leave!!!" " ESO Bla Bla bla!!!"
For some reason it seems that there are many players that go from MMO to MMO trying to turn the MMO’s they play into a clone of " that game which shall not be named." And then when it does turn into a clone of " that game which shall not be named…" they complain …" hey this is a clone of .." that game which shall not be named." "
I hope the dev team stays strong. There may be things they still have to do to get the game better polished…but…. making gw2 into either a Clone of " That game which shall not be named…" Introducing any of the previous three…. or trying to make this seem more Like TESO, are not steps we would want them to make here.
" Make mine gw2"
Thanks for your contribution :o
I’m personally doubting whether or not they’ll ever add another region (to the size of Cantha or Elona at least.) I really gave up hope when they announced that they had no plans at all for any expansions. I’m even starting to doubt if they’ll add any races or professions. Really worried that this is all due to business on NcSoft’s part. They’ve scrubbed projects in the past and I’m concerned that theyre adopting a “we can make plenty of money with things as is, why invest in expansion-size changes?” policy towards gw2. In that case, the dev’s could only work within the limits set by the corporation. In the end, Ncsoft makes the rules of the game (literally and figuratively.)I Like gw2. But I Kind of started souring on NCSoft when they closed down City of Heroes. That decision never made sense to me. it seemed to be a wildly popular game.
I Know i enjoyed the crap out of both CoH and CoV. but i giess i digress.
I think NCSoft rather pour their Money into making a LOT of different titles, hoping to find a Niche for each…than to invest too heavilly into any. The main problem there is…players Kind of have gotten used to playing a couple years….get an expansion…. play a couple more… get an expansion.
Even in Monthly subscription gam,es we are used to paying for an expansion. Anmd as good as the QoL changes coming on the 15th are. They are not the same as adding cantha was when Cnatha was added to gw1.
New Maps… New stories…. New skills…. new skins on Old skills.. and yes those DO matter when they make a whole new area have a distinct flavor. New Music…
Elona I loved for one feature…. Dervish!!!!
I really Hopedfor a dervish type player… or a ritualist. I reently tried to go back to gw1. But found for some reason My account was locked…. again. And it was linked to an email i am no longer able to access…. my loss.
I had hopes for TESO, that seems to be a scrub. There is EQ Next coming but that’s a year away, World of Darkness Online seems to always be delayed , delayed… Oh well…I Guess i can hold out and hope.
Even though CoH alone was technically profitable, the studio running it was performing very poorly. NCsoft made numerous attempts to transition it to other studios but could never could broker a deal that would sort the whole mess out. CoH died from mismanagement outside of NCsoft’s control for the most part. Paragon Studios is who you should be sour on, I really doubt anyone at NCsoft was happy to be in such a jam that they had to close a popular title.
Try taking your champ train to edge of the mists if you’re worried about loot quality. It’s very stable there, like 95% salvage and raw mats.
Heh, Hamm ran with us in TC EotM with tag on a few days ago for quite some hours. He drummed up some really funny conversation. I think it’s just because the community gets a kick out of seeing the tag and no other reason. To me all it shows is that the people designing the systems are actually seeing them in action in a live setting from a player’s perspective. I’ve played MMOs that were run by dev teams who didn’t play the game. It’s not a good feeling. cough Ultima Online Circa 2003-2014 cough
Haven’t made any yet. I tend to be careful when crafting or buying anything. I dig on wikis until I’m an expert on any particular item or topic before making a decision that could cost me any amount of gold or materials I deem significant, which is basically anything that would take more more than an hour to farm. It’s worked out for the best. Now making bad decisions in the borderlands that cost me repair silver, those are a daily happening. Doesn’t bother me though, that’s the fun of it.
WoW started to die 10 years ago too.
3.5 years ago is more accurate. Maybe you’re referring to the first time you heard someone ask if WoW was dying, but in reality it had explosive player expansion pretty much steadily until late 2010 when Cata beta drama and the wind down of ICC jump started it’s inevitable decline. Up to ICC the general consensus was that WoW was continually improving, and from Cata launch on the general consensus seemed to be that WoW was headed in a very bad direction. Even if the numbers were different, the change in community morale in that period felt like a death knell.

This game has too many players for mystery patch notes to be that much of an issue. It’s highly unlikely any change will go unnoticed for any length of time, even if it is extremely obscure. It’ll be up on a wiki within days, hours, probably minutes.
The dungeons in this game are really terrible. Not really because of the dungeons themselves, but the community that plays them. Most dungeon groups have all cap titles that say something along the lines of “IF YOU AREN’T A GS WAR IN FULL ZERK KILL YOURSELF YOU PIECE OF S**T”. Dungeons would be better if they were playable by more than one build of one class. Also if every single boss strategy wasn’t stack in a pile butted up in a corner and burnt he boss, then sprint to the next boss and do the same thing. There should be mechanics on most bosses that make stacking extremely nonviable and unleash all trash mobs so they don’t stop chasing you so you could actually play the dungeons instead of basically skipping to the end in 2 minutes and getting a loot chest. The loot isn’t that interesting, you can get just as much kitten ing around eotm. Program the dungeons around the elitist loot hungry zerk noobs, then you’ll have a game.
It’s ‘funny’ how the word exciting is used for the introduction of a system that makes the most interesting and beautiful monsters in the game as boring and predictable as your average public tv programme. Oh look, the fire elemental is going to spontaneously explode in 5 minutes, better grab mah tea. Bleh.
That’s how it is already. The megaserver boss schedule is a minor tweak compared to all the other system updates coming. How would the boss spawning randomly be any more exciting? You’d either miss it or have to camp it for hours to get your salvage green and pink rock. What great game design you pine for
What about a simple fix like giving us a reasonable way to gain badges that doesn’t involve mindlessly aoeing in a zerg trying to get as much loot tag credit as possible? There’s almost no incentive to roam solo or small since badge gain is entirely dependent on getting as many loot credits as possible. Give dolyaks and sentries a chance to drop a badge or two and maybe less people would be addicted to aoe gangbangs.

I got a yellow staff, a couple skill point scrolls, and a couple piles of luck consumables out of my meta achieve chest. Seemed really really crappy. Was kind of expecting a decent loot pile, but it looked more like an alliance supply bag.
How exactly is Anet’s communication on the topic obscure? All the official word I’ve seen on the topic has been fairly specific, and is only obscure if you read every 5th word while flapping your arms in the air while screaming “Wub wub wub wub wub wub wub”.
Several knight runs today in LA have resulted in the knights way over scaling above the 50 person cap. We have good splits and good damage output on all 3 knights and no group can seem to get theirs under 40% during the entire duration. This seems to be occurring more and more lately. If they are hard capped at 50 person per knight they shouldn’t be scaling up to have health pools similar to what a 150 person group should be able to do.

What was the point in making these drastic sweeping changes to an event while it’s in progress? I really enjoyed how it was before, now it’s just a nightmare. Every run since the latest patch has been a complete failure for me, it seems unwinnable now. Still not getting loot either, so every aspect of this patch is pretty distressing.
I have yet to get any loot from an assault knight. They seem really stingy.
