do you delete ascended mats?

Asgaeroth.6427

I have one full bank tab of it it, one full mule character of it with only basic 12 slot bag upgrades and no extra bag slots, and started a second mule who also has some 12 slotters and the default bag slots. Would rather buy more storage than delete it. My time is precious in game, I’m not disposing of the loot. If they don’t give us something to do with the loot we get before I completely cap my account out on ascended mats then I suppose I’ll just stop playing. Would be happy with a 1 copper vendor price, would feel more reasonable than making us delete, or make it currency for something even if the prices are obscene. Like 3,000 dust for a T6 mat or something.

Is the RNG system truthly random?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

I don’t think there’s an RNG at all. The game is too much based on the economics of certain drops. Everything hinges on precursors being rare, and in RNG the precursors have a chance to drop. The odd patterns I see in my loot paired with the absurd volume of items I’ve seen come and go through my inventory has convinced me that the loot is scripted and precursors get let out manually. Anet is not going to leave their entire economy to chance. Precursors are handed out individually to people who meet certain flags and only when it wont hurt the market price.

Want To Try GW1

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

GW1 is still worth your time. You can pick up Platinum edition on Ebay new in box for about $12-$16. Don’t buy used, the code is likely already burned up. Platinum has the main game and the expansion. There’s 2 other main mission packs besides what’s in plantium but there’s no need to buy them unless you complete prophecies and the expansion and want more zones to play after. Platinum is the minimum you need to earn GW2 titles/AP from GW1.

Gw1 is a little convoluted, there’s 3 stand alone base games and 1 expansion for any one of them or all 3. Platinum includes the first of the three stand alone games and the expansion. If you buy the other two stand alone games you’ll have all 4 parts, but there’s no real reason to get all 4 unless you are really dedicated to 100% GW1 completion. Platinum is enough to get a fulfilling GW1 experience. You can play the same character in all 4 parts, but you only need 1 of the 3 base parts to play the expansion which is the part that is most worth your time.

Skyhammer

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

the big question is not why skyhammer is so bad, so universally hated, so broken, etc. it’s a raging pile of crap that makes no sense. everyone accepted this the day it came out.

the question is why Anet has not taken it out of rotation yet. it has to be an oversight that it’s there to begin with, someone who never played pvp setting up the ui and then someone else notice it’s pictured ui but not in rotation list. no normal brained semi-intelligent human being familiar with the map would intentionally put skyhammer in the competitive pvp. they remove water map because someone at Anet too lazy to program water weaps in the new pvp gear menu, but they can’t take 20 seconds to take skyhammer out of ranked after a hundred thousand requests? more people have probably quit the game entirely over this garbage map than currently play pvp. just fix it already.

but your overall quantity of content isnt enough for such a audience

For the audience you’re describing, there’s no such thing as “enough” content/replayability.

Even if they did release 10 times as much content, there’s still a portion of that group that’ll finish it in 2-3 days and then complain about having nothing to do.

content that can be finished in 2-3 days by the most hardcore would be like a breath of fresh air to someone who’s been trapped in a coal mine for 10 years. they don’t release anything that can’t be finished in 2 hours by the most casual. would be nice to see something else in game that makes gold that isn’t strictly scripted dungeons, is what is being ribbed at.

Not all achievements are doable by every build of every character. It’s not a new concept. If you haven’t already come to terms with this fact you most certainly don’t have enough AP to have a legitimate reason to care about having this one. This is the most illogical thread I’ve seen in minutes.

PRECURSORS

I run the dungeon paths I like, mostly the ones that can be run thru with any random pug 80s without significant delays because no one knows mechanics. You can do a really quick 30 gold a day if you get in a good flow with them. AC P3 and SE P1 are the most fool proof dungeons in the game. I don’t know why Anet allows such easy gold in explorables, they are both considerably easier than the story modes. There’s lots of other dungeons that are good gold per hour without a 5k+ AP zerk group too.

But I can agree precursors as is are pretty much the stupidest concept in gaming history. The game simply doesn’t have enough content to support the length of time needed to beat the RNG on precursors. We shouldn’t be told we have to play the same few dungeons 5000 times per legendary. Honestly dungeon gold should be cut by 3/4 and move the gold gains to WvW and EotM. Get people doing things that wont burn them out so quickly. Dungeons are too small and predictable to be the only method of getting gold.

Static Tempered Spinal blades (infused) or Beta Fractal Capactor (infused) with ++power +precision + ferocity stat versions

The infused versions let you pick up very cheaply +15 agony or very expensively +30 agony and you may use some of the relatively cheap WvW infusions to pick up some extra (minimal) vit and power for a lot less money than the fine mystic forge infusions, with the added (minimal) benefit of some extra stats against NPCs in WvW areas, while maintaining your 70 agony. The benefits of this setup aren’t extreme even compared to exotics, as is the case with any ascended upgrade, but you do pick up something which is better than nothing if you’re looking for something to work on.

Addressing a misconception about AP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

AP requirements in dungeons is not elitism, it’s gold farming using mathematics.

Yes AP is an inaccurate measure of skill. Is it so inaccurate that it is unhelpful? No. Anyone who runs a full speed ac cof coe clear every day for gold knows how it works.

95% of sub 1k AP players are very inexperienced and slow the whole group.
1k-3k AP players are an unreliable mixed bag
70% of 3k-5k AP players can hold their own
70% of 5k+ players perform excellently

I’ve seen excellent players at 768 AP and I’ve seen bearbows who downed every 5 seconds at 18k AP. But if you follow the formula and watch group statistics over time, you’ll see the absolute best chance of actually getting your gold out of a dungeon you’ve done 300 times without having to waste your whole night, list 5K+ AP ZERKS (no rangers) and kick people who can’t read. Elitism is a myth, it’s just a sad fact of Anet’s economy design. 90% of gold comes from dungeons, 90% of gold farmers are very tired of the old dungeons. Listing an “elitist group” pretty much works out to a 90% success rate, success being a fast run that doesn’t involve explaining the dungeon for the 600th time.

This is all rough numbers but it’s closer to the truth than fiction. I can see the frustration of people who want to farm dungeons with speed groups but get kicked for this reason or that. But you should also try to see from the other side of the fence. If you want change stop complaining about people who look at APs and start demanding better and more varied gold farms. The only option besides explorables is flipping, which is even more boring than 2 year old explorables.

It’s really nice of Anet to take the time to make crystal prisons have more health. I really commend the effort.

Except the problem with crystal prisons isn’t that they didn’t have enough health. The problem is THEY AREN’T PART OF THE EVENT SCRIPT. Shatterer has one achievement, to help people escape from a spell he has never cast once in his miserable life.

What’s the point?

Achievement Points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Asgaeroth.6427

Sadly APs are the most reliable judge as to if someone is either in enough gear to instakill the content or at least has played enough to bind their dodge button somewhere they can use it in short notice. Just from experience I’d say 7/10 people over 3k AP are at least reasonably competent players and 7/10 people under 1k AP are extremely incompetent players. Just how the math works out, there’s not much getting around it.

But what you must understand about dungeons is there’s two schools of thought on them. There’s people who run them socially and people who run then as a gold farm. If someone’s listing for 5k+ AP zerkers it means they’re on a mission for gold. You joining that group as a 600 ap new player in a buncha green soldiers gear is basically being a troll and impeding other people’s farm work. It’s very easy to list a group as “all welcome” and hook up with like minded people. I join with new players all the time and teach fights, calmly mention what went wrong if we’re having trouble. But if I need gold for something I’m working on it’s ZERKS 5K AP OR KICK, because those groups will 98% of the time steamroll anything. It’s not because I have something against new players, it’s because Anet gives us no other way to get gold besides speed runs and buy low sell high menu watching.

Legendaries have gotten significantly more difficult. People who got them last year only had to do about 1/20th of the work that has to be done now. Not saying if that’s a good or bad thing, but the legendaries are as hard as they are right now because they should feel legendary doesn’t hold much weight for me, considering the majority of legendaries floating around were quite easily made compared to what people venturing out to get them now are faced with.

I tackle GW2 more from the perspective of my time in Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot. I also played a lot of EQ2 and WoW. GW2 doesn’t share a lot with those games. In UO and DAoC you weren’t given as much direction or gear treadmill. Once you had a set of gear you like that’s what you wore forever, just like GW2. in UO and DAoC the big draws were economics and becoming a better PVPer. Enriching oneself while learning all you could about classes, builds, the game world and lore. GW2 is more like old school MMOs, as much as it bills itself as a whole new concept it pretty much ends up playing like 3D UO.

I’m not going to defend Anet (this bug should have been fixed, I agree) but you can easily prevent this bug from occurring by standing in the corner (not the middle) until Detha becomes out of combat (only takes 15 seconds max). Then lure her to start the next event.

This does not always work. The event script needs to be rewritten, there’s nothing else to say about it. Why Anet refuses to put someone on the task of writing a working script for Detha in AC P2 after 2 years is beyond me, they can’t be that destitute.

Another Rune Rework?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

Runes could definitely use another look. I know we just got a bit of a retouch on them, but there’s still a lot of glaring issues. One of the big themes seems to be that a lot of runes are thematically and in base concept good, but then they have a wasted slot that summons a useless and often detrimental minion. Stuff like Ogre and Privateer for example. They could be stat balance alternatives to Str and Scholar, but they both only have 5 bonuses instead of 6. Why not replace the broken minion with something like 5% damage to weakened foes or 3% damage to bleeding foes? There’s so much room to have more than a couple useful rune sets. The game doesn’t need a dozen sets that summons minions, considering the near universal loathing for minion summoning items, and especially in sets that would otherwise appeal mostly to classes that have no minions.

The solution for rebreathers is always the same. Make the rebreather a cosmetic and take all the stats from the helmet. It’s much better than asking every player to grinding out more ascended components and more runes. That’s just get to the same capability underwater as they have on land, which is all players actually want.

Don’t really agree. You run out of stuff to work on really fast around here. If you don’t bother completing things you’re fine using the cheapo PVT one from Teqatl, which isn’t really an adequate best in slot item in my opinion. I think they should do more with aqua helms. Maybe make it take a crap ton of bloodstone and empyreals and make it tradable, so it’ll solve some of the issues with ascended mat bloat and be fairly cheap for the people who don’t like crafting.

I’m not really happy with the Mai Trin changes. She was already the fight everyone seemed to struggle on, now at scale 10 and 11 she’s dealing as much damage as she was dealing in the mid 40s. Doesn’t really make sense. Now you have a 33% chance of having a 2 hour run or a fail run in low scales. It’s getting hard to even fill a group there already. Her difficulty is so far and above every other thing in every other fractal at lower scales, there’s nothing to prepare you for her. If you’re going to make her into a hydrogen bomb on scale 11 make the rest of the fractals that hard so we stop hitting bricks walls. I just had around a 35 attempt Mai Trin on scale 10, we had to have the entire group swap to some kind of heal spec and we still had trouble keeping up witht her damage output. No one even got hit by a mechanic up to that point. No one was dying to cannons, it was just her and horek near OHKing everyone. I’m not one to say make things easy just for the sake of things being easy, but come on, the power curve could at least be stable. If you put mai trin on a line graph for damage output happening from every other fractal sub 34 and her, it would make almost a 90 degree angle.

We need on screen consumable bar

Asgaeroth.6427

We need a consumable bar where we can drag our item from the inv into empty slot on our screen so we don’t have to look through our inventory everytime we want to use it.

I would actually like an item that is a “Consumable Auto-dispenser.” It could reside in the inventory and hold a stack of consumables that it would automatically dispense as needed each time the previous one runs out. It could be a gem store item similar to the Metabolic Primer, except permanent and better. I am forgetful and my consumables often seem to run out exactly when I don’t want them to. Others may want something like the consumable bar you mention because they want to be able to switch foods during fights and such, which this obviously would not help.

This is how EQ2 does it, food is equipped like gear and just auto eats it when the timer runs out. Love how that works. Can right click on it and toggle auto consume on and off. I think a concept like that would transition to GW2 really well. Have a slot for food and a slot for oil/stone in the gear panel, stick your consumables in there, toggle auto consume on when yer ready to fight, toggle it off when yer chillin’ in town.

One side of the argument demands hard fights and more than once a year, the other side says they don’t want their map dotted with unkillable fights unless they mess with /ip and try to hunt down guild groups. A console port of GW2 would take so much development from game menu reworks to how movement and casting, especially GTAOE, works that it would be easier to just make a new game. They’d have to slow everything down too, GW2 moves really fast for most people to enjoy playing it with a controller. Why do you think everything is so sluggish and slow in ESO and FFXIV? They designed the games to be playable with a controller.

RNG in this game is a little outside of reason. I have thousands of play hours. I never played low level content, ever. I bought the game got in a good karma train and just sat in it and ate XP boosters the whole time, 1-80 in a sitting on my first character. If I’m in game I’m farming something that has ascended and precursor drop chance. It’s just how I like to play. Problem is for all my effort, nothing. My sister bought the game 2 weeks ago and I helped PL her to 80 very fast and she got ascended staff as a drop in a scale 1 fractal on her second attempt. And I see that constantly, people get nice stuff with little effort all around me. Every other fractal someone’s getting this or that. I’m pretty sure Anet has adaptive RNG that gives people who play a lot garbage loot and people who play 4 hours a week get the good stuff. For it to actually be possible for me to never have seen a drop of any kind but also have realistcally 20% of groups I run have at least 1 decent drop, either there’s some very broken code that bars certain accounts from getting items or there’s very malicious code on Anet’s end towards farmers. There’s no way in hell this game has actual RNG. It’s more likely for Stalin to come back from the dead and show up in a twerking club in Brazil wearing short shorts than what I’ve seen is actual RNG.

Golds from dungeon is killing the economy

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

Maybe the other person’s pocket was lined with Dungeon gold! Lol.

Really, all gold comes from ‘nowhere’ with the exception of Gem to Gold exchange. And really, that gold comes from the same place, as well….the developers of the game. We, as players, get ‘paid’ in gold for what we do, whether it be running dungeons, gathering mats, completing DEs or Renown Hearts….

It’s all Gold ‘created’ out of thin air. Or, if you prefer, you ‘buy’ the Gold you earn by paying ArenaNet the price of the edition of the game you bought. There! It’s not out of thin air now. =)

Gold is generated out of air, but to combat this you put gold sinks in the game that delete gold from the economy. Right now the biggest gold sink is from item flippers. They have to pay big TP fees to list items. Say they put in a buy order for an item at 600 gold and then try to list it for 900 gold. That listing and that buy order both take a fee that goes nowhere, just into thin air. The hard part of an MMO economy is making gold sinks that people will actually use and not be furious about. It’s a problem that’s plagued all MMOs with an exchangeable currency. GW2 has done fairly well with it compared to a lot of games.

I kind of think it would be cool to play an MMO that had a fixed amount of gold in the economy. Like say there’s only 500,000,000 gold coins on the whole planet. Some are in the hands of NPC businesses, some are hidden in caches around the world, some are in the hands of evil armies. The NPC shop owners will buy and sell things to try and keep a balance of the coinage, the evil NPC armies will commit raids to try and get loot from banks cities, and the players will try to play both for their own cut. What if you had to buy insurance to protect your gold from bank robberies, and if you didn’t you were at risk?

Spam filter is too strict [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

Spam filters in this game are completely uncalled for. Beyond the fact they constantly interfere with normal gameplay and non spam, they are 100% ineffective against actual spam.

When the group commander has to take time to ask other people to talk in chat because he thinks he’s near chat suppression, something is not right with your game. I can’t even send 4 mails of items to my sister if I craft her a set of armor and weaps for her alt. I get spam filtered after 2 or 3 mails. Guild leaders can’t use mail to do guild functions because it takes them 6 hours.

The spam filter should only be kicking in for serious offenders, people who are getting reported. There’s ignore for short term offenders. At the very least the suppression should be significantly loosened and put on a progressive timer. Example: in Planetside 2 if you hit team mates too much you get weapon locked. First time, yea maybe it was accidental. The lockout is like 30 seconds to get your attention. Hey, be more careful kinda thing. If you keep doing it the next one is longer and longer. To just flat out lock people out of chat and mail for like 15 minutes for doing benign obviously not spam things is absurd.

Best and Worst of GW2 -- An Opinion

I like where GW2 is in a lot of ways. It doesn’t feel like WoW Plus like so many other MMOs that just take that formula and try to spin it. It feels more like Ultima Online or Dark Age of Camelot, my MMO roots. There isn’t some nonstop stat inflating gear train to be on, or a constant parade of contrived bosses. When DAoC started to get really low on players I went over to WoW for awhile and raided tier 10 to tier 16. To me it never really felt like an MMORPG. It feels almost more like something along the lines of Candy Crush. Just give you this never ending chain of higher and higher stats to go for without ever actually making you more powerful, then charge you $15 a month to do it plus client and expansion fees. There just isn’t an enjoyable world there, everything is so static and dead. All the development focus is on instanced loot pinatas that barely anyone even seems to like. All the open world content is a 2 hour static quest chain that eventually unlocks a few repeatable fetch quests. GW2 scoffs at all of these concepts like the generation before WoW.

lol.. you really need to stop holding back, and tell us How you REALLY feel about World of Warcraft.

I recently re-activated my account, and am having a pleasant time playing the game. I enjoy that I can solo farm mats for my tradeskills, and don’t have Blizzard’s hands In My Pocket along each and every stage … I Like that what I craft has value to other players. I Like that it doesn’t cost me 11g to make a bag that then sells for 13g on the ah…if at all..since I might get undercut, and then suddenly..there is zero profit.

I Like that in THAT game, while there may be constant Upwardly upgrading gear dropping, the fact remains that before level cap, I don’t need to spend a single dime on gear. It drops off Mobs, or it is provided as a reward for quests.

Now. we can go back and forth about " My game is awesome, and wow sucks." from your end. But that seems childish to me.

You enjoy gw2 as it is, I enjoyed Gw2 as it used to be. Lately… I do not enjoy it as much, and the irony is… i have come to appreciate a Lot of things that WoW does well. At least well for me… things I enjoy are viable in WoW.

I can understand your enjoyment of Gw2. I can understand your desire to play it. What I fail to Understand is why you have to trash another game, or the people that play it. Especially since the free to play aspects of Gw2 are such, that a person can play BOTH.

Which leads me to the LAST thing I appreciate about World of warcraft, that 2 years On GW2 taught me to appreciate.

It’s community.

PS I cut my teeth on EverQuest. Make of that what you will.

Not really specifically a directed bash on WoW, mainly using it as an example of where I feel MMOs have gone wrong in the last 10 years. When WoW came out I had already playing MMOs seriously for 5 years. WoW gained success and the original MMORPG model fell to the wayside for static questing and shiny instances. Dozens of big budget MMOs have tried to ride those coat tails and it’s created a feeling of stagnation. The best of GW2 to me is getting back to the roots. You don’t think EQ2 would have been a better game if Smed wasn’t watching Blizzard’s every move? :P

The inventory randomly resizing itself is getting really frustrating. Is anyone looking into this?

How much gold do you make?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

some people play 1 hour or 12 hours a day. So that could vary very much.

I can make 50g a day if I farm for 8 hours. I’m sure most people can too.

Nowaday I make maybe 5 gold playing normally.

This.

It reminds me of when I played Ultima Online and I used to be really confused when people would say you could max a skill in a day if you went to the right spot. I couldn’t understand it because in the hour a day I was allowed to play (I was 12) I’d barely make any progress.

Then I found out that when they said ‘in a day’ they literally meant an entire day of doing nothing but that.

It’s the same with getting gold in this game. There isn’t some special method that will make you 50g in a couple of hours (except TP flipping or a lucky drop) but there are people who spend enough time per day to make 50g with their chosen method.

What they really meant was you could max any skill with an EasyUO script that you left going over night. I ran a guild of 400ish people there for 6 years and I never knew one player who didn’t eventually leave a script going over night casting invisibility on themselves for mage gains. EA just didn’t care, so it became a standard thing like DBM for WoW.

How would you change WvW?

in WvW

Make it 3 factions, you pick a faction for your account, and replace server transfers with faction transfers since this would effectively be removing the final item that even makes servers exist.

Instead of instancing WvW under this new megaserver factional system, open and close leagues as population demands. If queues are getting insufferably long, open a new league. If areas become dead, close older leagues. Maybe use this system for monthly tournaments. If July had 3 leagues open and still had long queues at prime time, August should have 4 leagues, etc.

Darkness Falls style mega dungeon with faction controlled access. Nuff said.
http://camelotherald.wikia.com/wiki/Darkness_Falls

Change loot distribution in all WvW zones, anyone in the faction who captures an objective who was within a certain range of the objective gets a loot chest similar to the way you get bonus chests when increasing your world level (or faction level in this new system). No more loot from tagging champs and being inside control rings, make it this way in WvW and EotM. Don’t use this as a way to nerf EotM loot, use this as a way to buff WvW loot.

Give loot chests like this to defenders for completing defense events, make the defense events less stringent. A defense event should be running at all times on an objective you own. Every 5 minutes this event will complete and you’ll get a bronze silver or gold defender chest depending on how many minutes out of the 5 you spent guarding the objective. Scouting and defending should be just as rewarding.

Balance loot and karma so that defending, capturing, or fighting enemy groups all give loot worthy of people’s times, AKA about as much loot as someone could get chaining explorables or low fractals. Playing WvW shouldn’t be widely seen as an absurd waste of time.
