How hard would extra maps be?

in WvW

Asgaeroth.6427

It has come to the point that as WvW has not received real updates since launch that we ourselves would not mind doing the testing.

I can appreciate that many people don’t like EotM, but don’t conflate a lack of updates that you personally like with a lack of updates. WvW has added a great deal of content and rewards over just the last calendar year.

Hopefully you will find more you like in future updates and we’ll continue to add to the game.

It seems like a lot more people like eotm than dislike it. Also seems like a lot more people like eotm than borderlands. Seems like there’s at least a few packed eotm instances 24/7 while borderlands even in t1 feels like a ghost town 90% of the day. It even feels like people who prefer organized wvw over champ farming are in eotm more often now. I seem to be following commanders who are setting up AC defense points and trying to jump enemy groups just as often as champ farming lately.

Eotm has a lot of interesting design elements and actually has the loot and xp gains to keep a stable playing population even at off hours. There’s so many little disparities between eotm and borderlands that don’t help. In borderlands most of the objectives only offer one loot chest while in eotm they all offer two except generators and and guard posts which offer one and zero. The borderlands achievements are patently impossible to complete, there isn’t even a point trying. The numbers are set so high that it should be considered a game bug. You guys say there’s technical issues and you don’t want to wipe everyone’s current credit. But how hard can it really be to write a script that harvests the current AP data from an account and applies it towards a new achievement? Rubbish if you ask me.

There’s a lot going wrong with borderlands and it’s not just map design, which isn’t even that bad if you ask me. You’re not going to draw in long term wvw players with DAoC nostalgia alone. The loot, XP, and APs need to be there too even if that’s not what the most hardcore WvWers care about. If all you want in borderlands is the most hardcore 2% of players then mission is already accomplished and we can we can stop talking about it anyway.

Solution to all the Zerk hating peeps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

I’ve cleared every dungeon and every scale of fractal with pretty much every random setup you could think of. For the majority content the zerker mentality is mostly in player’s minds. There’s actually a lot more fights in game that benefit from having stat hybrids in group than are better off full zerk. There’s plenty of stuff that can’t just be whacked in 10 seconds by a zerk group and you actually get more damage over time from a semi tank group healing eachother to keep sustained damage instead of having zerkers dodging on cooldown and switching to ranged to kite.

But despite the fact there’s actually plenty of fights that are not designed with zerker stacking in mind, the really farmable stuff is best with zerkers because you get that daily bonus chest 3 minutes sooner and there’s really hard stuff that’s gonna OHK a tank anyway and the health pools are so high that without 5x good zerkers it’ll take 20 minutes to kill each boss.

What I’m getting at is if you really want to worry about this dungeoning thing, instead of complaining about what people want to run any particular content with, farm and learn more than one spec. There’s times when I put on my PVT stuff and go shout heals and there’s times (albeit more often than not) when I go full zojja’s and all DPS traits. The game isn’t really one spec fits all and the game isn’t all spec fits all either, never will be. The devs could balance fights til they’re blue in the face and they’d never stop players from finding the most popular builds and the easiest to farm paths. If you absolutely will never consider making a zerk set and learning a zerk spec, you just want to sit in your one spec you like to play, join or list groups without the word zerker in the title. That’s really the solution to the whole complaint, because the complaint is about people not the game in 99.5% of situations.

1. You can get along with the free bag slots and 1 bank tab. Be a little more discerning with what you keep, it’s not very difficult. And even so, buy the gems for gold if you can’t think of any reason why this game would be worth paying for.

2. Revive orbs and repair canisters are 35 gems each, that’s between 2 and 3 gold of gems depending on the time of day. You can buy 35 gems for gold and then buy the rez orb in the shop and get it out of your mail all while laying there dead, you don’t even need to carry this stuff around with you. This the the most baseless of all your complaints. These are rarely needed emergency items with a small gold sink attached to them. Calling them pay to win is laughable, and frankly you shouldn’t be doing fractal 40s if you can’t afford the 2.5g for an on the fly repair.

3. Complaining about being able buy to run your own PVP server, especially when you can do it without ever having to pay a penny unlike other games? Who’s twisting your arm to buy one anyway?

I’ve seen 14k AP rangers still using their ridiculous knockback to whack things 30 yards out of the aoe stack on cooldown and terrorizing the group with poor pet management. I don’t think Anet intended rangers to ever be seen as a viable PVE class because they gave them so many abilities that make group PVE overly frustrating just by having a ranger in the vicinity.

It seems really difficult to find a weapon that really makes me happy in this game. Right now I’m kinda digging Entropy with Heavy apocalypse on my Warrior. But there just isn’t that many combos that look good to me. This is mainly because of the fact that there are so many color schemes to play with for armor and so few color schemes for weapons. Also the fact that a lot of weapons suffer badly from odd sizing and positioning that make otherwise nice weapons look really funky. Wish they’d release a lot more recolors of current weapon models. The colors of the Mistforged weapons are just hideous, I don’t think I’d ever use any of them. like 80% of the weapons I own are brown, white and gold, or some bombastic array of colors that are hard to dye around.

Arah explorable, Fractal 40-50, Tequatl, Triple Trouble, Living Stories, TPvP, WvW, and economics/crafting/collecting is the intended end game content. If you can’t find anything in that list to get your hooks into or it all feels beneath you, you’re probably just burned out on the game and nothing will make you happy.

They probably could do more to extend end game. What are you really asking for, though? New 8 man raid style instances along the lines of Ulduar, ICC, or Firelands from WoW? More attention paid to WvW to make it feel more like the endless and meaningful wars of DAoC? A new tier of fractals with another set of instability mechanics to learn and a reason to be at 100 AR? Is this just a poorly worded request to make the loot in Arah and at world dragons match the time investment? Challenging and rewarding is so subjective. Let’s hear some solid specifics on what’s actually wrong and what needs to be added/changed.

Adding a few bags to the end chest for bronze is not enough. Anet seems to have some idea in their head that putting absurdly bad loot in the living world areas will keep inflation down or something. All this does is make the zones very unpopular and boring. People aren’t playing Pavillion because there’s nothing there. You can get 40 times the loot for your time anywhere else in the game. Make Pavillion comparable to the rest of the game, your living world shouldn’t be a sub par joke of content. Bring back normal loot to the mobs and champ chests for the bosses with the event completion chests back to their original state. The first time I tried Liadri I just hopped in with vigor shout build and a hammer. Was pretty crap for that fight. I didn’t come here and rage about it. What is the highest DPS class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

Theorycrafting possible max DPS doesn’t really mean anything. Of course Ele can do more damage just standing there bursting on a dummy compared to a warrior. But executing that in a dungeon? The best pubbie runs in dungeons and fractals are always 3x war 2x guard. Build doesn’t even matter, all zerk, all tanks, 3/2 zerk/tank mix, it all works up to a certain point like arah explorable and fractal 50, where group comps matter.

It depends on what you want to do. If you are desperate to just see the biggest numbers possible in game, get with a regular group who plays together and practice mechanics as ele to the point where you can nail bosses without having to be revived 10+ times a run like pub eles. If you want to be an effective and versatile damage dealer who can work together with any random setup and get the job done quick and clean, roll war or guard. 98% of this game just isn’t tuned to demand some specific comp, the community just likes to think it is because they’ll have an aneurysm if their 2,245th run of CoF is 12 minutes long instead of 10.

People might come here looking for that next big MMORPG fix they’ve been looking for after being bored of WoW, EQ2, and other traditional MMORPGs. They won’t really get it here because it’s designed as an ARPG at it’s core with MMORPG mechanics tacked on. That’s not a bad thing, it’s really fun if you understand what they’re trying to do. It’s just not WoW HD.

My Build: Common, Crap, Both, or Neither?

This is what I’m wearing and using in WvW and fractal 40s right now and have been for about a month:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQJASTjMdU5ZnHuewJaAtgAbQhu20dZfA-TRCBABGqrRLlBVqqyZKBxSp3U7PAwTKwS1KC4SKEA4AY4hT4hT4hHe4P/8zP/8zN8wPP8zDXGA8tA-e

I’ve been playing GW2 about 3 months or so, I been playing MMORPGs 6+ hours a day since 1999 and I felt right at home here on day one. I hit 80 within hours of buying the game with a combo of SPVPing and blowing the glory on tomes and chaining events in escape from LA. I literally sat down in front of GW2 for the first time and was 80 8 hours later. The first 2 months I played nothing but zerker GS meta. Personally I found it super boring and limited. When I got together enough gold to do my ascended crafting I decided to build complete nonsense that I hadn’t seen people talking about. I wanted a build where I felt effective in high level fractals but also never got downed in WvW. I played around with a lot of different setups in exotics until I found quite a lot of success and enjoyment in this setup. So I built it in ascended and so far I’m happy.

The only thing I change between fractals and WvW is the 3rd utility slot, which can be "on my mark, “fear me” or a utility banner as needed. I can output damage quite effectively with this setup, so much so that I can barely see a difference in the numbers versus wearing my zerker/scholar GS exotics which are collecting dust in my bank. Biggest difference is I’m healing the crap out of myself with the shout heals, defense 3rd trait (I have full adrenaline 24/7 even while spamming burst), and healing signet and AOE healing. And I have a bit of vit/tough between the uncommon runes and a few soldier’s pieces in the mix. The 3 second combat swap alone is enough to keep me thinking Warrior runes is best runes, Might Blast Ahoy!

Problem is I’ve been told repeatedly it’s complete laughable subhuman garbage even though I’ve had immense success in this build in everything from solo BL roaming, champ soloing, explorable speed runs, high level fractals, and coordinated WvW. Just wondering what I can change or if I should change anything to keep the zerker purists happy without significantly changing the synergy of the setup. I can’t seem to tweak anything from where it is without noticing my character power going down in some aspect. Maybe my view is just too narrow and I’m not seeing the bigger picture of what class building is supposed to be in GW2. I need lessons!

Anet's stance regarding to WvW spying ?

in WvW

spies are part of real war too. what you gonna do about pixel spies? you’re supposed to have your leaders make plans in secret. that way the spies can’t do anything that the enemy scouts cant do. neutralize the risk instead of complaining about it, because spies aren’t exactly a new concept.

What started the WvW decline

in WvW

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

I stopped WvW after I listened into some discussions on planning who was getting what place this season in tier 1 on TC mumble. Tier 1 season 2 was staged from start to finish. It wasn’t a fight, it was just trying to maximize how much prize tickets Anet had to pay out. Literally nothing else to it. Shocking twist: the plan I heard proposed on week 1 is exactly how the season played out. Not exactly interesting unless you’re more entertained by middle school math texts than The Silmarillion.

Guess it’s not really shocking since Anet’s long game for keeping WvW alive was adding virtually (or literally) impossible to earn achievements. Don’t think WvW will ever really work in GW2 until they take a closer look at the system they took so much inspiration from. If Anet wanted an arcade shooter on rails version of world PVP they should have designed their own system. There’s a lot of things they chose to ignore from RvR that really hurts the experience and is keeping any actual fighting from ever happening. Here’s just a few things that stand out to me:

In DAoC RvR levels much more meaningful, you actually gained a bit of character power instead of being able to carry 5 more boards and set doors on fire.

Structures and sieges had considerably more health. In DAoC they were literally hundreds of time higher than they are in GW2. This made sieging a structure feel like sieging a structure, and not knocking on a door for 45 seconds to get 20 silver of salvage.

Really my biggest problem with WvW is how realm match ups work and how they are so easily influenced by the players. There’s no war when the enemy is usually just the loot pinata you picked. Take away the player influence in match ups and you take away the reason to collude with the enemy to fix match ups. Fluid realm match ups just sours the whole pot, shows that Anet will never consider WvW serious content. They seem afraid their players couldn’t handle real pixel wars. In their design the real conflict is trying to game the system, not trying to game the enemy.

The only thing I think they got spot on was EotM, reminds me a lot of Darkness Falls from DAoC except no one loses access so there’s a lot more chance of running into big old zerg fights of PVErs vs PVErs, which is endlessly amusing.

If adding interruptable heals was the solution then they wouldn’t need an Ai consultant. What needs fixing is enemies just path to an aggressor by the shortest means possible to the range they are set to fight at and spam 1 or two attacks in place until they die. There currently is almost no AI in GW2 right now, it’s all just very simple scripts. Enemies feel about as robust as pet rocks, including most bosses. Maybe they’re trying to fix that.

Is Orr the next "update victim"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

Ok, so the way I see it. Developers look at the big picture of how the game economy is balanced around monetary and non-monetary rewards, how much gold goes in through faucets, how much gold goes out through sinks, and what events are too rewarding/not rewarding enough…..on a game wide level. Players have a tendency to think on a much more personal level that makes measures taken to balance the economy (or in this case, game experience) as a whole seem like a slight against each individual player. Yes, you have to consider that the gem store is a part of the in game economy, the devs certainly do. No, the gems store is not, realistically, the only metric they use to determine the cost of time and reward in game. Remember, sometimes the real answer is not one or the other, it’s often many things all at once.

Not really the problem a lot of people are complaining about. I like the idea of balancing the economy. Problem is, you can get loot doing fractals, you can get loot doing explorables, you can get loot doing EotM, hell you can get loot doing hearts and borderlands roaming. The frustration with pavilion is it gives so little loot you actually bleed money in bulk. A bunch of the rewards take tickets plus tons of gold or mats. Not one mob in any of the event areas drops anything more than a ticket, vets, champs, nothing. The “reward” chests for event completion are less profitable than starter zone hearts. It’s extreme overkill almost to the point of just seeing how far they can push loot starvation before they have an angry mob on their dev office grounds. This has nothing to do with economic balance. Maybe the outcry is to try and stop this practice from spreading.

AP = Horrible measure of skill

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Asgaeroth.6427

Asgaeroth.6427

Achievement Points are so easy to get, even my 2 braincell cow can get them, funny to see LFG asking for ppl over 5k AP – as if that means anything.

I remember playing another MMO with a gearscore addon, oh the joy of pugs asking for high gearscore and dying on stupid ways as certainly the score did not make them walk out of nasty stuff automaticly

A lot of MMOs have strict DPS/HPS barriers on fights. Proper mechanics can be practiced, DPS walls are harder to overcome. Gear score tools are often pretty accurate judges of a character’s output capability since in other MMOs gear sets need to be meticulously built by downing bosses for RNG drops. None of that really applies here since you could just drop a bunch of money on gems and run a bit of EOTM zerging for dragonite and have a full set of the best gear. AP is less accurate, but in a game with nothing else at least it’s something. People get sick of spending the whole run reviving someone or replacing people, they grasp for some way to minimize risk.

That said I have 3.2k AP, new to GW2, full ascended zerk and fractal reward level 46. If someone judged me by my AP they’d think I was a fresh 80 in mixed masterworks and trying to queue up for my first fractal in a scale 37 as if I never heard of AR. Also almost the majority of chronic double downers in my hundreds of fractal runs have been 10k+ APers that got it all from dailies and not from trying to better themselves as a player. AP makes zero sense as a scale of ability, it just gives some people a bit of peace of mind.

Why is the loot in pavilion tuned to absolute zero? Anet has gone mad with gem lust now? There’s just no excuse to tune the loot to absolute zero. You can balance loot drop rates without removing loot entirely. Escape from LA was active 24/7, it dropped loot as fast as anywhere else in the game so the content was actually used. People didn’t just zerg down the Escape from LA achieves on day one then never go again. Escape had competitive loot so it became a fun community thing that everyone enjoyed. You have a loot-centric game, if you can’t/wont solve that basic problem then stop trying to bandaid it by starving the loot out of everything. All you’re doing is making the game dishearteningly boring.

I would be happy if they would just add in an option to make a character start at level 80 if you already have one. Sure it defeats the purpose of the rpg aspect of the game to an extent, but it is OPTIONAL… and you would still have to build and gear the character anyways.

As much as I completely agree with this, and I gave you a +1 for it, for some unknown reason a lot of players don’t want us to have options. It’s odd but true.

As to gaining ToK’s with badges, I’m all for that idea. Though I doubt it will happen as we already gain experience in WvW, so we can level that way. Despite the fact that you are virtually useless until you get to the last few levels and have decent gear.

They would probably just add level up scrolls to the cash shop like WoW and EQ2 have long before they gave us a free option.

You boost drop rates too much, and then everyone and their cat end up with fractal skins. Once you get those skins, there really isn’t much incentive to run fractals anymore.

It’s a sad truth, but low RNG encourages business in the long-term. What’s the point of playing a game if you beat it within hours?

Then they need to make fractals actually worth running beyond the rng weaps and ascended boxes. If the rewards are good then people will still run it even after they got their weapons.

I completely agree with this. Let’s say that they upped the gold to 1g|2g|3g|4g|5g for the bracket you ran, I would continue to run them after I got the skins. Heck, I wouldn’t have written this post because at least I would be rewarded for time served.

FOTM is basically 4 times as long as any regularly farmed dungeon path. Not sure why it gives less rewards then those dungeon paths. An AC p1/3 speed run gives 4.5g or so in 20 minutes not including mats. An FOTM gives 2 gold in 45 minutes to an hour for a 20-40 scale? The .00004% chance of a skin or ascended item that isn’t a pristine relic freebie isn’t much of a draw. The relic back items aren’t much of a draw since anyone who played escape from LA got enough blade shards to make an account’s worth of ascended backs, which judging by the number of tempered spinal blades floating around was the majority of the current player base. FOTMs seem to be treated like the unwanted step child by Anet. They just wants us running our daily AC speed runs and logging out, makes their economic design work better.

Haven’t had a gear drop ever in fractals ever and haven’t even gotten a mists essence in two months. The kitten thing is just cursed. Progression and loot in there is so slow it might as well be nothing. Can farm multiple legendaries in the time it takes to get a piece of loot out of there.

Wow.
I get a cold feeling looking at those photos.

Definitely creeped out.

Strangest statement I’ve ever seen made about pictures of a launch event. It wasn’t a documentary about Pol Pot, maybe you clicked the wrong link? :P

Are you happy about today's armor skin?

Just thank whatever you believe in that you aren’t suffering through ESO. Compared to ESO, GW2’s armor designs are absolute perfection. It could be much, much worse. It could look like the armor designing was outsourced to a middle school HTML class doing volunteer work AKA how Zenimax does everything.

nerf drop from champions in Edge of the mist

And I wish demanding an EotM nerf on the basis you don’t like EotM gameplay was basis for Anet closing your account permanently. Not going to happen either :P

Demanding an EotM nerf with your reasoning is like saying, I have a ham sandwich and you have a turkey sandwich. I don’t like turkey so I want to rip your sandwich out of your hand and throw it on the ground and stomp on it. EotM is popular because it’s fun to a lot of people.

If you don’t like EotM go to eternal or borderlands. The entire game doesn’t have to be your play style. Live with it or keep torturing yourself, but these threads are hilariously pointless.

"Ktrain" PvErs in EOTM

You can’t learn anything about wvw in eotm since it’s just a spot to put a wvw merchant that isn’t stuck behind a queue’d area and a way to get badges that’s not stuck behind a queue’d area. Nothing in eotm has any effect on your world’s wvw areas. If you want to wvw then go wvw. Eotm is really fun how it is. Run around and smash stuff with a group with the risk of pvp. If you don’t like that there’s plenty of other options. Why try to normalize the whole game bu demanding eotm be turned into a 5th borderland?

Of all the things to complain about, it’s being asked to go hunt a few not that hard to find mobs? Are you guys so desperate to get the absolute maximum copper per second out of GW2 that you slam epinephrine laced coffee and wire your eyes open to zerk plow dungeons from the second you log in to the second you log out? I can’t think of any other reason that you would A) direly need these traits and b) have no ability to get the traits in a reasonable amount of time.

I’ve never had to think about the dailys. I’ve yet to encounter a set that doesn’t just autofinish while doing 20 mins of what little content there is in the game. Sit through boring events or PVP… well I’m sorry to break it to you but if you can’t handle events and PVP then you might not be cut out for MMORPGs because that’s all there is to this game and pretty much every other MMORPG ever made or planned for the near future.

World boss train is very similar to hanging out in town except you’re generating salvage and mats while you spam map chat instead of standing around.

Pre events need better rewards

Most of the time there’s so many people in the event zone you’re either shoved out of a pre or shoving someone else out of a pre to get your tag. I do the event schedule every day several hours, never seen a pre fail because all 60 people weren’t fighting over pre event tags. It’s beneficial as all hell for most of the people to not zerg the pre so the people who want to do them don’t miss credit. It’s unlikely an unattended pre is going to go unnoticed for long anyway. You’re way over thinking the people waiting on tag, just seeing what you want to see without any logic.

GW2 doesn’t really have much gore to begin with, they make up for the lack of dark themes with an abundance of adult themes like most female armor sets just being thongs and bras :P
