I stand by my opinion.
I was going to try to make it a little pithier. Something like “12/7 Cry-neng / Zerguson’s Crossing / Devona’s Kitten” but I couldn’t really think of a good playfully disparaging name for DR.
Edit: A surprising display of restraint anony-mod.

Since the last topic got locked I’ll start this one off.
I’ve had sex with 37 chicks
How many of them did you rescue from dragons and such with your boffer sword?
Seven. Two of them threw out their long blond hair so I could climb up and defeat the evil in the tower before the happy ending.
You’re slacking man.
I’ve had sex with 37 chicks
How many of them did you rescue from dragons and such with your boffer sword?
hit a nerve? no. not at all. I come here while I’m at work to play. My post is free of crying. I’m mockingly pointing out what you and so many others sound like. I’m sure you would enjoy if I were mad or crying, but i’m not. I’m far to awesome A human being to let a stranger with a chip on their shoulder upset me. I am also better looking than you. I am willing to bet I have no less than a quarter inch more than you, and I am way better at not blowing my own horn than you. and if you actually played with females who are hott, cause I know you don’t, my accent would make them all start filling a river. I am modest and awesomely awesome at being modest.
next?
You forgot to ask if I even lift.
I like this guy. sense of humor and has this strange ability to step outside his circle of influence and continue to see objectively. Your Logic is going to make a lot of people who only are able to see in extremes get upset.
Just thought I’d point out that this man with the “ability to step outside his circle of influence and continue to see objectively” is also the same guy who, back on page 7, couldn’t tell the difference between someone using position hacks and a thief using shortbow teleport.
Death shroud
The balance of death shroud has been talked to death since before release, from its hilariously powerful times in BWE1, to its more demure post release state, some (Anet supposedly among them) saying that it’s powerful enough as is, and that it merely needs to be used better by the players, to those that say it is lacking compared to the class mechanics of other classes, for one reason or another. Personally I don’t think it can be compared to other class mechanics simply because it’s so crucially important to all necromancers, regardless of build (I guess elementalists’ class mechanic is even more tied into the way they play, but that’s completely different). Necromancers are forced to rely on death shroud in a variety of situations, where other classes usually use conventional methods to deal with (death shroud being our principal way of taking damage, where other classes have invulnerability, evades, blocks, stealth and more), so I think that overall it could be improved upon, in a couple of ways.First of all, Death shroud needs to be treated more like conventional transformations, allowing us to see our conditions and boons, as opposed to our current 4 button UI setup we get currently. That would also open up space for a fifth skill, although whether we need one is debatable, it always struck me as slightly odd that we don’t have a skill to expend our life force for some gain (damage, movement, conditions, what it is isn’t relevant to this post), as that would be more in line with other mechanics, most notably the adrenaline of warriors. The two ideas for a 5th skill that I like most however is either to have a weapon based skill (which would give us some nice variety), or a merging of the land and underwater skills, where we would have life transfer and gather plague on land and underwater.
Considering the slow ROF, and its life force dependant damage and they fact we passively and actively lose life force all the time, I find life blast is a little underwhelming, and think it would just be easier if it did a flat amount of damage, so you don’t feel like you’re wasting your time firing at low life force. Whether it needs to fire faster, or do more damage is a discussion for another day. Alternatively, part of the suggestion someone made about combining land and water DS, was to make life blast transfer one condition like the current plague blast, and to have this shared on land and underwater; this would require no dps improvement, and would help cement our condition control ability.
Honestly, I would call Death Shroud fixed if they would give it normal UI and open up a 5th slot (my favorite nomination for a 5th skill is Epidemic, because DS lacks anything for condition builds as is and Epidemic has some decent use even for non-condition specced necros). I also think it would be pretty cool if Lich Form was a DS specific Elite, but that might be asking too much
You can easily have perma-swiftness without the warhorn trait by using the signet cd reduction trait instead, a much better bargain because it also buys you significant fury and might uptime in addition to an extra 10 points to sling around. Condition removal while leveling can pretty much be exclusively handled by Mending in the very few places where it’s an issue at all.
A good progression I feel is to aim for is 0/10/0/010 at 30, then work your way up to to the 15 point minor trait in Defense. At 60 ditch the points in Arms for 20/0/15/0/15 so you can have Berserker’s Power, Slashing Power, Adrenal Health, Signet Mastery, and Fast Hands. After that you can put points anywhere really, but it’s a very respectable base to start from.
This all assumes that you’re using greatsword or dual axes for your damage of course.
" The general disposition towards dev and pro is reminiscent of the allies towards the axis powers of ww2."
Wow, really?
Not sure anyone on our side even thinks about you guys. Strange to note the different perspectives. It also seems Kain felt the same way towards you since in 9 pages of this thread not one person said they were sad you left. That’s weird huh.
Two things: A) learn to recognize blatant trolling and B) develop a thicker skin you don’t feel the overpowering need to respond to blatant trolling with prissy passive aggressiveness.
Edit: I hate emoticons.
(edited by Attic.1562)
@frickers I believe he’s talking about how DR, being the T8 server with the most points, will eventually move up to T7 when ED and HoD have finished their headlong dive into oblivion.
And you are?
As always, I am myself.
The gears within the war machine of Fergussons Crossing are beginning to turn. As alliances form between the true blood thirsty war sworn warriors of FC, our enemies will begin to feel the borderlands they inhabit shrink around them as our grip tightens like an ogres hand grasping his mace.
The time has come for us to put the women and children to bed, and go out hunting for kitten dinner. Soon you will forget the comforting feel of warm castle stone beneath your feet, as your homes become our forward bases, your women our entertainment, and your children our slaves.
Prepare yourselves, the red fires of the Ferguson armies are approaching, and we hunger for Devonian blood.
Your asian shtick was more amusing.
And I’m surprised you haven’t gone for the Glorious People’s Republic of Ferguson’s Crossing joke yet.
(edited by Attic.1562)
Fair enough, and you are right it is none of my business. Believe it or not though, there are many of us, even on the “evil” DR server, that hate to see what is happening on Kain. We only see the outside ,and know nothing of the issues. (as well we shouldn’t) From the outside it is just a server imploding, which is sad.
Anyways, good luck to you all. I hope everyone can find some fun again in WvW.
Never said anything about DR being ‘evil’ either.
And the reason it looks like the server is collapsing in on itself is because it is.
What part makes me the idiot?
First page of the thread…a guild stated:
The reason we moved to Ferg was to fight new faces. I stated a fact about that.
Your post from this page:
We moved because WAR and iSPY left… unless they announced to the server a day earlier than on the forums, that was a fact too.
Not sure where the part is that I made up…
I never said you were making anything up. Just that you were acting the fool for no discernible reason.
Really not sure why people can’t just come out and say what they mean instead of fabricating things.
“We love Kain but moved to Ferg to fight new faces” LOL Guess what Kain, they were already fighting DR so the only new faces are yours, the ones they “Love”
“We only left because WAR and iSPY left” Well a few of them had ESP or something because they were already on Ferg Sunday morning running with LARP.
WAR and iSPY had their issues and left, but they at least left the bracket so they didn’t continue to fight against you. I can respect that.
None of my business just saying you don’t need a degree in Rocket Appliances to see that there is awhole lot of “we will stick it to them” going on.
Lord knows DR has our own issues to worry about, so back to me worrying about those and not other servers.
Are you always this idiotic or are you making a special effort today?
Stylii – did noQQ transfer to FC or was that some kind of protest hop/collective hallucination? I am pretty sure I have seen your folk in red since Sunday.
I’ll field this so I don’t have to suffer another one of Stylii’s emote-laden & far too nice posts.
The choice to move to FC was made in light of iSpy and War transferring off server. Without their combined muscle on the field our chances of getting the kind of good fights we crave is vastly diminished and our chances of getting utterly overrun by 5 times our numbers increases quite drastically.
Speaking frankly, Kaineng WvW is effectively dead in the water at this juncture and sticking around to fight it out would likely only cause a lot of negative morale and participation issues.
By moving to FC we limit ourselves to only having to compete with the DR zerg and have more allies (or at least ‘people who can’t attack us’) that we can play off of. No guild is an island after all.
It’s not an ideal solution, but it’s what was available to us.
All the karma pieces from the level ~20 to ~40 zones should have the same skins. So if there’s a vendor selling heavy armor gloves they should look like that. Sure you didn’t preview the light or medium armors instead?
That said, I’m pretty sure I got the gauntlets in Fields of Ruin. Know that I got the chest piece and boot from Kessex though.
I just found it silly KAIN threw away what could have been their win.
And I find it silly that you think we care about points at all. Maybe guys like Chaster or Xiir do, but there’s plenty of people who just want to kill indiscriminately.
Personally, I think the points can go hang. Maybe I would care if winning the match up was tied into power advancement, but it would be the opposite way. I’d quit over stupid nonsense like that.
If norns had a racial toolbelt to make them immune to damage for an extra two seconds I would start considering remaking my engineer.
Jokes on you man, one of the cabbage elf racial toolbelt skills is a 2s block.
Fair enough, but they really have diminished the race to a very one dimensional stereotype which is pretty disappointing to say the least. It’s as if they took the entirety of Chinese culture and made them the chinese food restaurant guy on south park. They went from a compelling and complex race to… a joke.
I only played the original GW for about 8 hours, but from what I’ve seen in several hundred hours of GW2 is that “a joke” is probably the best way to describe the games lore in general.
don’t the charr already fill the furrybait position?
Pretty much. Thus I fail to see why we should force anyone else to endure such a cursed existence every time they dip below half HP. Especially when they look as as bloody terrible as say the raven form does.
There are good ways to handle the transformation skills, but judging by the sad state of the majority of environmental weapons, I don’t believe ANet has the skills/resources to come up with and implement any of them.
which part of shapeshift into an even larger werebear says sensitive native american to you?
Nothing, but you were complaining about the lack of “a shamanistic reverence for the rough, icy wasteland they lived in who could invoke the powers of the creatures living there” and that turn of phrase only makes me think of this picture.
I still feel like they should have made it entirely cosmetic. Have the player automatically shapeshift when they reach half health into the animal form they chose at character creation. This gets rid of the terrible elite skills and allows them to shapeshift without paying an elite skill tax.
Ew. No. The forms not only play poorly but they look bloody awful too. I’d need a free race change token for my characters if they did that nonsense. Else I’d be mighty annoyed. Bad enough we have all these sodding terrible cabbage elves running about without adding furries to the mix.
Screw the whole ‘sensitive native american’ thing and give me bloody cimmerians all day long by Crom.
This makes me wonder, what selling point does a lower tier server have anymore to WvW guilds? No queues, come to us, doesn’t work anymore. I can only imagine if any large amounts of people transferred to lower tier servers, they would be wanting to be Top Dog and act like they own the server which most servers won’t enjoy.
We’re still a reasonably competitive tier for the foreseeable future. People who are bored stiff of blowouts on places like Crystal Desert and Borlis pass might be interested in that. Nor do we have enough people to really worry about some of the cheesy tactics that the upper tiers can pull off, that’s something everyone can potentially enjoy.
But frankly, I like our tier as is. I don’t see a bloody point in trying to attract more people. It’s too likely to backfire and upset what precious balance we currently have instead of affecting any positive change. And I’m not willing to sacrifice the fun environment we currently enjoy just so people can feel better about the worthless bloody scoreboard.
I want the old female greatsword running animation back. Holding it sideways just looks silly.
Holding it the way idiot weeaboos think katanas are supposed to be held was even stupider though.
For additional suggestions I can rattle of a few.
- Norn dudes should be able to hide all their armor above the waist. It’s sad to have a bunch of half-giant barbarians walking around without the ability to take their shirts off.
- Additionally, there should be an ‘Oiled’ toggle so we can really get that old Conan the Barbarian look going.
- We need kilts. Every armor type should have access too.
- All norn should be able to use greatswords and hammers no matter the class. I want my massive norn thief man to be a bloody homicidal maniac in a claymore and a kilt!
- Scrap the animal changing thing, it’s lame. Replace them with booze themed group buffs.

[a picture of his horrible cabbage elf]
Those murky textures and the lack of AA hurts my eyes Stylii. Do you play on a bloody PS2 or something?
The wiki has a decent gallery. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gallery_of_Shields
I’m partial to the Shield of the Wing myself.
However, I have to completely disagree with this point, particularly in regards to Chilled. We have absolutely the best access to Chilled of any profession, especially in regards to AoE applications and duration.
Yeah, I should modify that section somehow ‘cause I totally forgot about bloody Chillblains and was directly comparing Well of Darkness vs Frozen Ground; where I believe the advantage lies with the Elementalist, if only because it’s a bloody ice field so incoming projectiles can easily make its Chill effect outdo Well of Darkness.
Thieves and Rangers I threw in ‘cause they’re both pretty kitten good at doing single target Chill and venom sharing builds are nasty, but the major point that I was hoping to make was that Necros don’t do disruption as well as Elementalists. Necros are kitten good at it, but they’re better at supporting a staff Ele than replacing one. At least in WvW (which is all I play).
I’ll rework it later when I have time.
LARP’s thieves aren’t noobs […] doesn’t even HS spam.
Anyone else think these lines are hilarious?
I will be sure to tell Frickers, Tiglie, and RC that I’m glad they don’t even HS spam sometime tonight.
- Death Shroud feels terrible unless you’re using a highly specialized build.
- The unevenness of class mechanics is sort of a universal complaint, but it really feels like Necros got the shortest end of the stick here.
- Initiative is amazing. An absolute godsend to the class, even right out of the box and you can easily trait to make it better. And I’m not even going to mention Steal.
- Adrenaline is pretty good because even if the burst skill on your weapon sucks (Arcing Slice, Flurry), it’s incredibly cheap to get a really nice passive damage increase from Berserker’s Power.
- Shattering is nice because only Mind Wrack really depends on you speccing to make it attractive and while the other 3 are certainly situational they’re nice to have regardless.
- Virtues are basically some free signets and have decent passive and active effects out of the box.
- Attunements & the Tool Belt both give great utility to their respective classes without any need for investment.
- And while Ranger pet’s are kind of a grab bag with the various AI issues and whatnot they’re at least an extra utility skill you can pick up and swap to meet your needs.
- Meanwhile Death Shroud gives you extra HP at the cost of removing all your normal skills and severely limiting your UI. Life Blast is all but useless for people who aren’t speced heavily into power and traited accordingly. Dark Path has extremely limited uses if you aren’t melee. Doom is ok, but suffers from the duration issue that all Necro fears must endure. I don’t have anything bad to say about Life Transfer, except that maybe it’s CD is a tad long.
- Cluttered traits.
- Another somewhat universal issue, but I feel that Necros are at least near the bottom of the barrel.
- As examples, take the staff and dagger CD reduction traits. For every other class that had CD reduction traits that only affected one weapon (except Guardians for some reason) the weapon skill CD reduction traits were combined with other weapon specific traits back in beta to give them more pizazz. Hell, some even got their utility CD reduction traits combined with other traits; see Signet Use, Inspiring Banners, Master of Consecrations, etc. Staff Mastery and Dagger Mastery probably deserve to be combined with Greater Marks and Quickening Thirst respectively. Spiteful Talisman and Axe Training both have this already.
- Speaking of Axe Training, no other weapon skill DC reduction trait is Grandmaster level. I don’t see why it couldn’t be bumped down to Master.
- It’s also sodding annoying having the Well CD reduction trait and the Well ground targeting trait as Master level traits in separate trees. Couldn’t they either be combined or have Wells be ground targeted by default? Or at least move both down to Adept? Hell, maybe combine the CD reduction with the Wells apply Protection trait. The point is that is takes a very large investment of points and traits to use Wells effectively without being in melee, arguably too great an investment.
- Some traits just seem so niche I cannot conceive of them being used in any great capacity. Dark Armor is a good example, given that the only channels the Necro has are Life Transfer, Ghastly Claws, Life Siphon, and Life Leech. Terror’s damage coefficient is staggeringly low for a condition that lasts 2 seconds max. All the leeching traits are dubious because of the pathetic state of life stealing that isn’t gleaned from Leeching Venoms or Superior Sigil of Leeching. Reaper’s Precision feels decisively middling. Fear of Death’s ICD is hilariously long for a 1 second fear on being downed.
- Mobility
- This is coming from a WvW point of view. Contrary to statements of intent the Necro is both very easy to get away from while also being very easy to catch.
- The Necro has zero access to Vigor. No access to permanent Swiftness without specialized runes. And no movement skills apart from the Flesh Wurm and Spectral Walk teleports, and even those only take you back to places you’ve already been before.
- Necros can have decent access to both Chill and Cripple, but they’re outclassed in both by similarly prepared Elementalists, Thieves, and Rangers.
- While not dead last, Necros are pretty much on par with, or slightly below, bloody Guardians of all things when it comes to Immobilize. My mind boggles.
- On paper Necros do have a nice pull in Spectral Grasp. However, due to the bloody slow projectile speed making it easy to avoid, in practice they’re once again outdone by Thieves, Mesmers, Engineers, and Elementalists.
- Accessibility of gear.
- While not a huge deal, it is really bloody awful that the only way to get a full set of Condition Damage/Toughness/Precision armor is from running dungeons or getting Khilbron’s random drops from the AH. And there seem to be ZERO options for upgrades or exotic jewelry with that stat distribution. So aggravating.
Did you notice their legs? They look like humpty dumpty with those short skinny legs. Way too top heavy.
The short legs on the guys makes their running animation look good though. Compare this to the norn women. since they only use an upscaled human model their long legs make their running animation look really floaty. Kinda like they’re skipping everywhere. That’s one of the main reasons I can’t take any norn chick character I try to make seriously.
Well that and they all look terrible disappointing compared to the bloody concept art.
I say let the human women look like plastic sex dolls imported straight from japan, I don’t care about that anymore. But please, I want a norn chick who looks like she could tear a wild boar in half and then use the blood & fat to style her hair; not a WBNA player.
You could attach pictures of kittens to you post.
The mods would have to be even more opposed to fun than I figured to object to a bunch of kitten pictures.
But last night around 10pm EST there were around 30 or so Kains between wood and garrison. DR had about that many as well.
Kain had taken Wood (and most of the rest of DR BL) and was attacking our Garrison as well.
Not saying you were there, but there were several NOQQ there. It was an awesome 30 minute battle. We had the advantage and probably won because we spawned much closer to the battle.
Assuming we’re talking about the same fight, which we might not be because I cannot be arsed to remember the proper name of every bloody objective when they all look the same, NoQQ had 18 for that. Granted there were like 5-7 non-NoQQ people there as well, but they got wiped out pretty quickly and didn’t even try to come back.
Out of curiosity, did you come down to Bluebriar afterwards? Now that was some fun stuff.
As for top 10 on 10, I would not qualify, but you tell your number 41 ranked player I am waiting any time
Can’t. We don’t have that many members.
(edited by Attic.1562)
An interesting idea. I’d written off Melandru runes after the nerf they took back in beta, but I forgot there were condition duration reduction foods.
Whats your typical spec? I’ve mostly been mucking around with 20/0/30/0/20 because it’s fairly effective with a wide variety of weapons.
- AoE is fine
- Rendering is a big issue but will ultimately get fixed
- Not really understanding what you mean by no bodyguard/guard system
- Dedicated healing classes are for kittens and that other game which shall not be named
- (assuming you meant 40+ zergs)
- 2-3 well placed sieges can wipe a zerg (happened last night in EB to Kain AND to DR). My team of 4 flanked the Kain zerg in EB and we were able to eliminate 3 catas 1 flame cart and 3-4 ballistas before the zerg could locate us.
It’s fun to roll both in the zerg at times and as a small coordinated hit team. You have to realize there are ALOT of people in WvWvW not fully leveled or geared. They have to zerg or man siege, both tactics yield exp, karma, loot badges etc. This game is what you make it to be for yourself. If total score matters for you then by all means transfer to a stacked server and wait in the ques.
Just ask NoQQ about a small man group versus a ball of kittens and low level players. I’d like to know the # of badges they collect on any given night. Please don’t take this as a personal attack as it’s not meant to be just merely stating it boils down to finding your own fun in WvWvW. I wasn’t having fun in CD because of the ques hence why I transferred. I think alot of people came into this game without ever playing GW1 and expected this to be a clone of another game we all know very well…..it isn’t and I hope it never will be
I placed some breaks in there to save my sanity whilst replying.
First off I’ll reply to the outlined bullet points with some bullet points of my own more clearly explaining my original intent.
- AoE is not fine currently. The 5 man cap on all non-siege AoE attacks severely hurts the ability for small groups to fight vastly larger groups in anything but an extending fight. This is help that large groups frankly do not need since their large numbers inherently give them greater firepower and ability to withstand attrition.
- True, I’m sure ANet is not so stupid as to be unaware of the issue. But, nevertheless, it is still a massive Quality of Life issue. Last night when I was manning a ballista inside that one northeastern supply camp in EB that I cannot be arsed to remember the name of with NoQQ we mainly lost so quickly to Devona’s because there was 10+ people on our siege before we really knew you guys were there. An issue we never had with the 20+-ish Fergs who kept showing up.
- You must have never played DAoC, Warhammer, or SWTOR then. Basically they amounted to ways for beefy, tanky classes to take hits for squishier ones. It’s something I greatly miss, they were always my favorite classes to play. GW2’s “everyone is dps so people don’t complain about being unable to find support classes to do content with!” is boring and shallow to me.
- Just because WoW has something doesn’t make it bad. Being able to spec for dedicated heals is a massive boon for organized premade groups. My 6 man in Warhammer regularly ran roughshod over 24+ people because we had good healers, good tanks, and our dps could focus people into the ground.
- I was actually talking about how hard it is for smaller groups to do ANYTHING to large zergs when the zerg can easily let several people rez anyone who goes down because they so vastly outstrip the smaller group in combined firepower. This is only exacerbated by the low AoE caps. Small groups don’t have the luxury of that because it cuts too deeply into their available damage.
- Yes, well placed siege can be a great boon. However, given the immobility of siege weapons such fights are almost inevitably wars of attrition, which as I stated earlier is something zergs are much better equipped to deal with thanks to their greater numbers.
All of these things exacerbate each other and pile up strongly in favor of massive zergs. Which, contrary to your opinion, aren’t fun at all for people like me. I want to play small man, open field zergbusting and pre-made vs pre-made. That’s what the majority of people in NoQQ are looking for as I recall.
We don’t care about score. We only care about killing people in fun and interesting ways. That’s why we don’t merge with WAR or iSpy. They don’t play the way we like to.
We don’t even want the zerg to go away entirely, zergbusting is hilariously fun when the games mechanics allow it. And they regularly allowed it even just last week, maybe not as well as I ‘d liked, but 15 vs ~30 was still fairly doable and fun. But the infusion of refugees from the upper tiers who care not one bloody iota about how they’ve completely ruined the fun balance we’ve enjoyed for the past month or so boils my blood.
I may have drifted somewhat there near the end, but I’m leaving it in ’cause it was cathartic.
I dropped my warrior ages ago because the mesmer is just so much better at engaging in hit and run tactics in WvW (which is the only thing I care about).
But I’m really bored with that class and don’t have the cash available to craft my guardian, thief, ele, or engi to 80 and exotic them out so I’m looking towards my warrior once again.
Here is the question I posit to you, gentle forumites: what are some specs that specialize in running into enemy zergs, AoE bombing, and then getting the hell out of Dodge before they get ganked?
Currently I’m using a hammer & sword/shield build, but it doesn’t feel like it does enough significant AoE to justify the slow attack speed. But I can’t tell if that’s due to the crappy AH greens or not.
What does it need?
New maps.
@Ender
It’s just sad to see our once reasonably competitive tier threatened by something as dumb as thoughtless server transfers. It’s something I’ve had to deal with far too many times over the years.
Especially since between the tiny AoE cap, the rendering issue, no bodyguard/guard system, no dedicated healing classes, and how quickly you can rez someone with 4+ people zergs are hugely overbalanced vs smaller groups.
@SpaceLord
A totally reasonable and understandable post. However, it’s also reasonable and understandable for people to get annoyed with a guy who consistently spews hysteric hyperbole all around the thread.
Grossly over exaggerating the number of opponents you faced while severely understating your own numbers, saying that certain fights “don’t count” because they don’t satisfy some bizarre and no doubt constantly shifting criteria, and whining accusations of abusing bugs that have a very low chance of even WORKING with the small numbers of players we deal with here in T8; these things are the hallmark of poor sportsmanship and they ALL appear in just one of Dread’s post on page 7.
