Sorry Lanfear but this patch is not the same as same old complaints that the sky is falling.
I agree there has been oodles of those since the game launched.

This patch though?

It destroyed so much, just this once I agree that the feeling in game is pretty much the same as on the forum.
Megaserver is a fail for everyone I know

So what makes this complaint any more valid? Is it because YOU and a group of other players dislike it and now it’s suddenly the RIGHT thing to complain about? Is your complaint suddenly SUPERIOR to the complaints of the other group?

Nothing will please every one, it just sounds like this is your first time being on the other end of a change.

She has a valid complaint Celest, and she does quantify it by stating ‘people she knows.’ It’s no less valid than my assertion that it’s not a complete fail, since for me, and mine it works out quite well. No need to jump on her.

We can all agree that the implementation is not perfect. It has it flaws, but that is to be expected with such things. Honestly, the bigger the component, the more likely you will be to find a bug. Nothing is ever fool proof. That’s just how it goes.

However, I think their biggest issue is their instance selection calculation. Based on what they said about what it was supposed to take into consideration and how it was supposed to work vs a lot of the complaints being voiced, it simply sounds like it’s not functioning properly. It really could be that simple. Of course, it could also require to collect and store data for its aggregation, which could take some time; although I personally would have stuck that in long before the actual patch so it could have a head start on data gathering, but again that’s just how my brain works.

I personally think that the selection criteria is broken somehow because I have not actually seen it in effect at all.

Basically what they said would happen and what is happening is not the same thing at all.

What I am very afraid of is that the Megaserver only aggregates gameplay data after implementation- this says to me it will never be fixed.

Certainly they should have waited and fixed the issues before rolling it out across all maps.
That just feels really shortsighted and not considering of the players at all.

killed or atleast heavily crippled my community, thats for sure. Doesnt seem like they care much, either though. I am just waiting for their usual pat-self-on-shoulder move on social media along with trying to lure new players to the game with 50% sales or whatever. There has been silence for a week, and the “fixes” that came only added further chaos. Not sure if they have a clue where they are stearing this ship at this point.

How in the world did it heavily cripple your community? Please explain, or are you just complaining because you like complaining?

we did daily tequatl/wurm kills all organized over teamspeak, sometimes even with up to 200 people resulting in 2 kills on 2 different servers via guesting. also, weekly guild missions with 30-40 players.
Now we cant even get our players on the same map anymore.
that isnt the only problem though. we are a german community. now we get mixed together with people from spanish, english and french worlds, people we cant even communicate with due to the filter. It makes organisation with those players impossible.
It killed the entire feeling of homeworld identity by doing so.

Yesterday, we did our guild missions with about 20-30 players. All german. most, if not all from the same home world, and in the same guild. we ended up on about 3-4 different megaservers.

From your blog post, it is suggested that the megaserver algorithm should prioritize putting me on the same map as the people i play with. why is this not the case then? Why spread it out onto pretty much every map when it still isnt working right?

I just dont get it, being an IT guy myself, that is, but i am in no position to judge. Though, working in the field, i find that some of those things released shouldnt have made it onto the live servers, atleast the way they currently are. wait, i just judged it. well, my bad.

Can you please fix the megaserver algorithm so that it properly puts me on maps with german people instead of throwing me into the overflow-land? And if you finally do so, please remove or atleast adjust the chat filter, because as of now, it only hinders me even more than it helps, as a player, seeing how i had to change my language settings to german(i am german but use the english client, just pointing that out) so that i can actually communicate with my friends and community, because the filter simpy wouldnt allow me to as it filters by client setting instead of giving me an actual choice. Many players prefer english over their native language when it comes to games, simply because the localized translations tend to be quite bad, synchronization included, and with this filter, you didnt take any of those players, including myself, into consideration.

well, i am glad to see that the Edge of the Mist issue has been solved. However, I am bumping this post once more because this is still a serious and very frustrating issue I want to be considered and possibly fixed as soon as possible.

It simply doesnt allow me, as a player, to play the game how i want to play it, and by that, i mean choose which language i want to play in, and what people i want to communicate with.

Wasnt one of the blog posts entitled “removing restrictions” ? it feels like quite the opposite is the case, sadly.

hi,

as I understand it, the megaserver system used the language of your home world. So if you are on a, say French home world, like Jade Sea, you will get sorted with other players who are on other French worlds.

yeah, that is the way it SHOULD be. sadly, it isnt that way as of now, and instead you get thrown on a map with people from all servers, which is why we have that sort-of fix of a chat filter right now because it led to people of different languages cursing at each other in their native language, lots of name calling, you know it. So since that happened, its highly unlikely the filtering works as they said it should as of now.

And the filter doesnt solve the issue either because it filters by client language. I however use the english client, but play on a german server, so i cannot communicate with people in my native language because it gets filtered out since the option is turned on by default, hence everyone using the german client cant see what i say, though i can see what they say because i disabled the option.

It’s the weekend, if a critical bug fix wont be pushed out over the weekend, I dont a resolution to this issue would be pushed out either.

Part of the problem may be that you’re getting on maps where it’s essentially an “overflow” of sorts, where there’s not enough people of XYZ languages to put them into their own map copy, so they get put together as a result.

yeah, the thing is its not what they initially promised, of sorts. they pretty much claimed you would be put together with people who speak your language, or your homeworld, friendslist, guild, for that matter. None of that is actually the case. its pretty much just overflows as of now than actual megaservers as they should be, i find.

there are no megaserver filled primarily by english speaking players. all of us are thrown in the same pot. your language detection idea would hardly work at all either because there are plenty of words in german that dont have the letters you suggested in them.
we wouldnt even need the filter that doesnt even work properly if they had just seperated megaservers by language as they initially claimed they would, because the currently solution solves nothing.

This is hilarious to me. And that some people are actually defending it makes it even more funny.

We are being thrown onto the same servers so the servers are fuller again. That’s flawed to begin with, but okay.

Next we’re being thrown onto the same servers with people that don’t understand each other. Okay, getting a bit more ridiculous, how about we look into this first…

Solution: Put in a language filter. Are you kidding me? So the solution to being thrown in with people I can’t understand is to make it so they won’t hear me and I won’t hear them unless we all disable the language filter.

So what was the point in the first place? Now there are a bunch of d00ds running about that I can’t even talk to. They are just there, not contributing to anything that could ever amount to something worthy of being called a “community” because they are not even able to SPEAK with each other.

Do you still not see the problem? Do you still not understand how this is so unbelievably bad that it’s only worthy of laughter at this point in time?

i fully agree with you. all they are doing is covering up the mess they have brought upon and now completely ignore the issue even though it obviously hasnt been solved.

Yeah, people dont seem to get the problem at all.

I, for one, use the english client language but play on a german home world. now, all this filter is doing is making me unable to actually communicate with people from my world because most of them are likely to use the german client language instead.

I suggested a similar solution as yours in my own post, or that they actually seperate the megaservers by the supported languages instead of mashing them together, which is actually what i thought it would do anyways from the blog posts.

I find the current solution is rushed and not very well thought through because it only limits us further than we already are.

would seem that way. otherwise its just a bad design decision i guess. something that should have been predicted knowing how different languages bases clash like this on pretty much every other game aswell. But here is hoping they will actually adress it and not leave it like this :/

This might not help completely, but I noticed that my English language client has the option to turn off English only in the chat. That is on the general chat setting.

that only fixes it for me, though. the issue is that everyone else who has a german client on my server will not see my posts anymore.

uhh, no. not really. Just because you hide it with a fancy chat filter doesnt mean the whole vile name calling will stop happening. all it does is covering it up.

Wouldnt have been a problem at all if they actually valued the Server identity people had before this mess. Meaning that we have to accept that humanity is trash and can’t play in a friendly enviourment in the first place because of racial reasons. It is pathatic.

As of the latest change, I am now unable to communicate with people from my homeworld / language base, because i use the english client rather than the german one for the sole reason that i dislike the german synchronisation and play all games in english to begin with, and the chat is now filtered by what Client language i use, meaning that everyone from my server/language wont see what i say in chat because I get filtered out since the option is activated by default.

I would like for this to be adressed in a different way, or i would like to know if it will only be a temporary fix and will be properly fixed later on, because i am not exactly happy with the way it is handled as of now.

Please take players who use different client languages into consideration when you change something. Thank you.

PS: Edited the entire initial post since someone pointed out it might get deleted because of the way it was written.

My fix suggestions:
1. Adding more filter options:
Give people the choice what language they want to filter, say, If my client is english and i want to see the german chat, give me the option to set it to german. This could be extended to support single or multiple language filters, so it could allow me to see the english and german chat because i understand those languages, but i do not understand frensh or spanish, so i want to filter those out.

2. Modify the Megaserver system so it only throws server of the same language base into the same pot. in general; all german servers, all french servers all spanish server and all english/non-specific servers. that way, you can maintain the language based communities that have been formed since release, and also avoid the whole name calling and general vile behaviour between nations that is happening right now.

I will add more if i can think of anything.

During the ready up stream, Colin touched on everything being random (gathering nodes specifically) due to megaservers, and how their original intention was for it to be like this to reward explorers. Every time you enter a zone, it’s supposed to be different and something to explore. If you assume this is the truth and not marketing to make a loss look better, the idea of having a real time event API makes no sense.

rewarding to explorers, a hazzle to everyone else, i guess. I just find it disappointing that they first give us the API to create so many websites and apps with, and now they pretty much break most of those or render them useless entirely. Its a bit of a slap to the face if you consider how many hours went into developing those. The lack of information about what exactly is going to happen with the api makes it seem even more ungrateful, in a way.

The only way they could somehow make this work would me with the OAuth2 Service which is supposed to come with v2, so, technically, instead of checking events by world_id/map_id you could then check what world or map character x is on. But, now that i just thought about that again, that wont quite work either because you wont stay on the same world on all maps… so yeah, guess thats it for the event api. meh.

its kinda sad and annoying considering what i was currently working on doing with it.
No more purpose for the map rendering anymore either it seems. atleast not in relation to events.

Perhaps dont do things last minute for once? I am pretty sure they had plenty of time to get it all working. then again, if i assumed they would do things far from last minute, that delay for the Edge of the Mists Release that turned from 2 hours into 9 hours wouldnt have happened, assuming that testing actually took place, which it should have since they were beta testing it with a fair amount of people. heh. Thanks for having me look forward to this patch all day long just to have that little 7 hours extra weight to be placed onto my back.

Give ANET a break. They push content every 2 weeks, I think they deserve a break for Wintersday.

At the same time, I think we should applaud the programmers for all their hard work!

What if…

Scarlet wasnt actually in the reactor back at that point in time and instead just invaded the Mistlock Observatory and through that the Thaumanova Fractal with her Portal technology which she has used so many times by now?

I mean, it would be a possibility, right? That she caught wind of the Fractal being investigated and decided to use it to her advantage.

Just came to mind as a possibility since we all just seem to assume that, because she is in the fractal, that she actually was there before the reactor blew.

On another person’s note, it would be interesting if she or something disrupted magic flow enough, that our own magic skills are affected. LOL imagine how epic it would be if all of a sudden we couldn’t use certain skills and had to go solve the issue with like literal hack and slash stupidity hahaha that would be pretty …… fun. and innovative imo. feels like we should actually care about what Scarlet is doing because it’s going to affect us rather than be another LS grind.

The Ley Line Theory would actually make alot of sense, since, as they were just mentioned in the Fractal, coincidentally, all those “Do Not Touch” Devices just happened to pop up all over Tyria, potentially placed at such “knot points” like the one the Thaumanova Reactor was apparently located at, atleast thats what i have gathered from what you posted.

Haha! I’ve been thinking this! But I did not want to “reach” in my post without any solid ground. These devices could be litterally anything.

My wild guess with no grounds to them what so ever:

The devices look like some kind of Aetherblade technology to me, already bringing Scarlet into the equation there. Their exact function is anyones guess, but they are found everywhere in the world on seemingly random locations. They don’t appear to be tactical or follow obvious patterns at all.

Assuming that the ley line theory is somewhat correct, and the DO NOT TOUCH devices are in fact tied into this plot, it could explain the locations, but I still have no reasonable idea as to what Scarlet is trying to achieve with them.

It could be anything from tracking/mapping the ley line pattern to trying to disrupt them, causing havoc to the Magic of Tyria somehow.

But even if the devices are tied into the ley line theory, why now? The Reactor meltdown happened more than a year ago. (It was “recent” according to Wiki).

There would have to be some piece in the puzzle she did not have yet. Aetherblade technology could be one factor, but that still does not account for what she has been doing the last few months.

Guess we will have to wait on the Living Story for that one

Oh and the DO NOT TOUCH devices could just as well be a new global clean-up machine, ending littering as we know it.

The Technology of the Molten Alliance and the Aetherblades. The Hallucinogetic Poison of the Toxic Alliance. All 3 have to do with Magic, more or less. You could call them Experiments, in a way. The Clockheart she created in the TA Path is also yet another of her Experiments, same goes for what she did with the Hologram Technology and her messing with the Watchknights is also yet another Experiment of hers.

If we look at it like that, she is still in a testing phase for now and has yet to actually get serious.

You might already know quite a bit if you were to take a look at the bits and pieces they throw infront of our feet rather than giving us a straight up explanation.
If you happen to have played the Thaumanova Fractal, you might have picked up on Scarlet talking about Lines of Magic or Energy flowing throughout the World of Tyria.
Now, coincidentally, these things pop up all over the Continent, very likely placed on key locations on said lines. However, what she is planning to do with it, is still a mystery at this point. But it does kinda imply that there might be a greater plot behind it all after all.

Well to be perfectly fair, in the blog post Scarlet was also mentioned having researched and interest in thaumanovic devices and such, so that does tie her into the reactor if only by description.

Would you mind linking this blog post? Not that I doubt you, I just can’t find it. Only reference I found was a single one in the short-story:

After months of painstaking preparation, Omadd’s experiment was ready. Ceara would enter his isolation module, a vast array of thaumechanical devices wired to a coffin-like chamber. Once activated, she would be unfettered by her physical body and could delve into the metaphysical vortex of reality as no one ever had.

That said, I hope such unmentioned stuff like those Devices wont escalate as quickly as the Tower of Nightmares did. Besides, going by the Next Release picture, Winter is coming…I mean Wintersday.

Also, Hobotron. yes. very much yes. Surely, his sucks-at-singing Companion will make a return aswell.

I just hope Scarlet will stay out of that Release for now, at the very least.

I have to admit i was annoyed by the fact that Scarlet popped up in the Thaumanova Fractal, as many people were by the look of it, but given all those hints, there might actually be a greater picture afterall.

Here is hoping we are in for a treat with what is around the corner and for once not another “Oopsie Daisy, better luck next time buh-bye!” Scenario.

I don’t think a Living Story Content will ever be as difficult to kill as, for an example, Tequatl. Would be challenging though. I would be really excited if we ‘failed’ and then the Living Story would go on with all of the consequences!

I don’t think Tequatl has ANYTHING to do with Scarlet or the Tower of Nightmares.
I’m talking about the Living Story content, not about a normal ingame content which has been revamped through an update.

Most likely it’s the Toxic Hybrid enemy. After killing him, we’ll get the Toxic Hybrid mini.

The blue and greens argument got me thinking though. What can they give you instead? If they gave you rares as often as blue and greens then rares will become basically the new blues and greens.

The only thing they can do is give us unique rewards I guess.

Actually it doesn’t, i understand your point but they don’t need to the the usual chest rewards..
Instead they could make the 3 keys we will need extremely hard to get and account bound aswell and then they can give us a cool reward on the chest
And Btw when i say make the keys extremely hard to get i don’t mean RNG, that would be the same thing as giving us blue and greens with a 0.1% chance at a cool reward, just make 3 Secondary bosses on the new dungeon super hard to kill, that ppl don’t really need to do unless they wanna spend time thinking how to kill these soo they can get the keys.

I hope my idea didn’t get too messy and you guys get the point

How to Kill “hard to kill” Bosses in Open-World/Zerg Content:
1. target Boss
2. position yourself in range and press one
3. Sit back as the braindead zerging and autoattacking will do all the work for you
4. ???
5. two blues and a green

Accpording to one twitter comment the tower interior will not be an instance but there will be small instances within.

Sounds a bit like the Queens Jubilee together with the Queens Gauntlet

Awesome. This makes sense, which makes me happy. Scarlet is a major threat, it would make no sense if just a handfull of adventurers to get in to go after her (that’s what bothered me about the other dungeons). Storming the tower and then splitting in many groups to explore it, wreck it and look for clues makes sense.

I can’t wait!

if anything, i would find it reasonable to complain about the prices, seeing how they want you to dish out 400 gems for ONE skin while you would get a WHOLE ARMOR SET of skin for 800 gems aswell. overpricing at its best.

Plot Twist: The Name of the Kraitboss, to fit the whole batman theme, will be Killer Krait.
He will be accompanied by the Quagguin(Penguin), Skritt Woman and Maklain the Minstril simply because he has a similar fashion sense like the riddler. there could also be another Quaggan based on Twoface by the name of Qooface.

I suppose Marjory will become a Mary Sue when it becomes public knowledge that her parents were killed by a grizwhirled Thief in a shady backalley in Divinity’s Reach when she was 8 years old. She then got training in all martial arts and fighting styles known to Man, Charr and Skritt and studied hard to become the CEO of Uzolan Corp. and uses its technologies to act out her role as the best detective in the World, while also being a billionaire playgirl, industrialist, and philanthropist.

Also, lets not forget about Kasmeer whose parents died in a circus accident, who was than taken in by Marjory who trained her to become her side kick.

Tequatl bug

Instead of pushing out half baked content every two weeks, I would prefer it if you would go back to your 4 week schedule and actually take some time to fix the massive amounts of bugs you keep adding into the game and never fix.
It is simply outrageous to announce tequatl as one of the biweekly updates and then add it to the game completely and utterly bugged.

The Timers are almost always asyncronous and most of the time with the worst timing ever. I honestly have no idea why you havent fixed this yet, because its a game breaking problem and shouldnt exist in the game to begin with.

You cant expect players to navigate such a huge event with broken timers. We usually defend the batteries and the laser and most of the time everyone retreats back to the frontline at about 15-20seconds left on the timer. Lately, roughly after you added the halloween update, it happens alot that everyone is going back and the timer goes down to 0 and as they run back the timer suddenly jumps back to 10-15 seconds and the batteries are destroyed in roughly 5 seconds.

this is the major problem apart from the jump pads not properly working and the laser sometimes spawning with random amounts of damage to it already.

Please fix this as soon as possible.

A Cutscene Book just like the one you got about Marjory would have been perfect to get the job done.
A Scavenger hunt would have made perfect sense as well since you could have gotten the information from Dribbins ghost or either of the scribes. Hell, even the 600 people eddie killed could have given you bits and pieces.

So far, this release is a disappointment compared to last year. And by the look of it, the next release later this month might not even connect to it and actually might not have anything to do with halloween to begin with (you might want to check out a particular lake in kessex hills for that matter), so that doesnt exactly get my hopes up either. The Last couple Living Story updates have hardly contained anything of value, story wise atleast. there have been nice features, of course, but thats not what the living story should be focused on. It majorly lacks in the “Story” department. Even worse considering that they apparently arent planning any proper updates and this might be all we are getting, which isnt exactly much since you usually are done with it in the first couple days and then are left with 2 to 4 weeks of free time. I would rather have no updates of the like if they continue to diminish in terms of quality and content.
There is so much story potential, even dating back to the loose ends Gw1 left behind, and they arent using any of it. Its a real shame.

Here is hoping things will improve in that aspect in the near future.

Whatever happened to having fun and properly being rewarded for it? so, for instance, you change a boss fight to such an extend that it requires to be coordinated over Teamspeak or other VOIP software and also requires about 100+ people to actually pull off, and for what? a bunch of blue and green junk and if i am lucky, a few yellow drops.
That isnt exactly rewarding, you know?
Same goes for all the Living Story related item rewards. And boy am i seeing plenty of those Queens Pavillion torches because people feel so rewarded with them. /sarcasm
Do you yourselves consider these “rewards” rewarding? if so, at what point did you conclude that a mask that most likely only looks good on light armor classes while looking completely rediculous on heavy and medium armor classes, would be a good reward? To be quite honest, I would feel more rewarded with a title than most of this junk, to be blunt. And those achievements you have to do for that tend to include more boring grind aswell, apart from the boring grind you have to do to mass up the gold to avoid the other boring grind that you would have to go through otherwise to get that one thing you actually desire, since just about everything else thrown at you doesnt quite cut it?
