Well the Golden Phoenix Blade I think . . .

Beautiful blade but so tiny.
Huge potential to make it bigger and more intricate in GW2. Good one!

I know it was tiny but I was thinking of a nice one handed sword. If two-handed swords are more your style?

- Gothic Sword
- Colossal Scimitar
- Elemental Sword
- Turai’s Sword

Try these.

Oh I am familiar with GW1’s militia.
Mine would probably be the Eternal Blade.
Good option for particle effects, IDK why Lord Taeres Shadow is freaking purple.

I found that MF does nothing because the probability of an item dropping is soley dependent upon how much it costs in the TP.

And this is coming from a guy who has never gotten anything worth more than 1g.

Actually if you reverse that you’d be correct.
How much something is worth on the TP is directly related to the item’s probability of dropping.

Guardian hands down. Look closely at their consecration flame details in highest settings.
The flames are actually moving symbols designed to look like fire and not actually fire at all.
Also the effects projectiles cause when they’re absorbed by shields and walls. The ATD is incredible. If only the dev team we’re as good as the art team. Sigh.

Why can't I take my Guild Bank too?

I dunno, I see a Guild Bank as more of a safe and the guild hall as the building, when I move countries I will take the safe with me.
To transport said safe will require hiring people to transport it. The bigger he vault, the bigger the fee.
If an entire guild were to change servers I think Anet would be more interested in the amount of money they are getting through gems and gem exchange, than they would that this entire guild is getting to keep their 100k influence.
To me giving players the option to take the bank with them is even more of an incentive for whole guilds to migrate and thus spend gems.

Because they want you to grind another 500 hours to rebuild it. They want your time, your time, your time in the game.

No they don’t. They want my money. If I don’t log on I’m not consuming server resources.
If they charged another 200gems for e.g I would honestly pay that for my guild bank.

I second the notion of a legendary splitter.
But I would suggest making everything remain soul or account bound, including the precursor.
It would render 1/2 of the components unusable for the next legendary but give you a head start for it too.
It would give people a more realistic chance at completing that title because let’s face it, that legendary achievement is a bit over the top.

If I am paying (and I will pay it) 1800gems, roughly $20 to swap servers, why can’t I take my guild bank with me?
I am the leader of my guild, it was by my authority and my money alone to create the guild bank and I shouldn’t be penalized further for wanting to swap servers.
I can take my guild over servers but I have to upgrade everything again?
This hardly seems fair at all.
From what I understand once I change servers I can’t even guest back to the one I was originally on and have access to the bank I made there either.
Can I get an amen?

I bought full clerics for my guard today and facetanked the HotW 1 Endboss. I used not even 1 dogderoll, no aegis nothing. I only walked out of his whirl not more.

And i was the only cleriv/defensive player.

Not even one fight gets easier with zerkers gear. Yes some are so easy that i could cry…but if u stack enough defensive gear/traits u can doing every dungeon (proably except Lupicus/40+ fotm and alphard) by just pushing 1.
That´s far more easier. Slow but easy.

THAT is exactly why Berserker/Assassin is better. Using defensive stats trivialises and makes it so you don’t actually have to dodge or even be mobile at all. How is that fun?

And as stated, it takes longer going full defensive.
Time is money therefore zerker is more bang for buck in comparison.

Bagel.4598

Actually I didn’t ask what qualified you.

And this is why you are not a game developer.

That is some impressive selective memory.

So maybe as a developer your first task should be correctly interpret things (That’s a high school taught skill).

I did, your response to my interpretation was, as quoted above, a jeer about how I’m not a game designer, which I admittedly am not, but I am at least, for example, actually able to state and defend my stance (and reasons behind that stance) on how the game should be designed instead of attacking credentials I don’t know whether you do or do not have.

Secondly if you’ll read the above information, I have provided you with enough information including definitions to prove that GW1 was an MMO and why it was marketed as a CORPG.
It doesn’t take a qualification to see it’s just silly to argue that.

Not what I was talking about, you still have yet to address my very first point, being my statement that a fully open variable build system cannot work with a continually expanding content pool, and that this design mistake is the reason GW1 was never a very popular title.

What was incorrect about what I stated, and why? You clearly stated you believe I am incorrect, strongly in fact, but with neither evidence nor argument provided. If you believe I am wrong, I want to know why other than your assumption that I have no design experience, which honestly wouldn’t matter were it true, any casual observer can have an opinion, profundity is not copyrighted by an industries indoctrinate, but opinion is only constructive when the giver can state why and how he or she came to have it.

Do you not see how every reply you’ve given so far has only strengthened my point about misinformation, and a biased opinion?

I didn’t ask for your credentials yet you felt the need to defend yourself with no concrete achievements other than “study”.
After pointing out that you had incorrectly interpreted what I had actually said, you continued to defend yourself, claiming that it was YOUR interpretation rather than the literal message of “This is why you are not a game developer”.
Which upon your reply you only agreed with me.

My contribution of adding more skills was argued you by you that the addition of skills would have a negative impact on GW2, just like it had on GW1, when in actual fact GW1 had a very complex and one of the best rounded skill systems for it’s size in history.
You then proceeded to make claims that GW1 wasn’t a very popular title, although previously you stated that it had sold over 6 million copies.
Now compared to GW2 that may be small, but 6 million copies sure isn’t unpopular.
You stating that a game with continually expanding content could not be successful with a large variable skill pool, was completely disproved by the existence of 2 campaign maps, both with 2 new professions and skills for all classes, and an expansion with additional skills.
Remember the 6million copies sold?
The bias comes in where your opinion that GW1 wasn’t a very good game due to the skill system is exactly that.
From the forum feed back I would say that the favour heavly leans towards GW1’s skills system than GW2’s. Although the reality may be different, we will never know.
My suggestion regarding skills is what I would like to see, and your retaliation was that it would be detrimental to the game, based on your biased opinion of GW1’s successful addition of many skills and content.

You have succeeded in 2 things in this conversation:
1) Proving me right that conversing with you is pointless.
2) Getting me to converse.

You asked what qualified me, I told you, don’t ask what you don’t wish to know or have already decided to dismiss. And even so, the qualifications of a student are far greater than that of a cynical non-contributor.

If I am wrong about my interpretation of GW1s system as compared to GW2s, and the developers reasons for discontinuing that system, then prove it and your qualifications in one stroke. Provide an argument with evidence as I provided mine. If, that is, you are capable of providing anything more than hollow quips.

And GW1 was a CORPG, not an MMORPG. An MMOPRG takes place in a massive world of multiple people playing with each other. GW1 allowed you to create and participate in any PvE content in an instance with a population cap of a few dozen, and even solo it if you liked; no massive world, multiplayer optional. It was not an MMO.

Finally, nearly everything you’ve said disqualifies you from ever having had any training in any field of design, because so far as design goes it doesn’t matter whether it is a CORPG or an MMORPG. The same principles of design have been applied since pen and paper RPGs and board games were the staple of the industry. The principles of design do not change with the tools.

Actually I didn’t ask what qualified you.

Other colours would be great. The design teams seem to get an idea and run with it, sometimes a little too far, greatcoats medium armour and the orange/blue fire effects. Will see over the next year what comes out. They did use white on the armour pieces you get from Achievement chests plus the champ box greatsword cobalt (edit, on screenshots it looks blue, on my computer when I use it it looks white), so white might be the new fashion choice.

Reskins = less time, less effort, less cost, MOAR PROFIT.

Or why not implement for e.g 5 more skills for each weapon per class so we can actually construct more builds by swapping out weapon skills aswell rather than just the weapon.

Because that would be the first step to lead the entire game down the same self-destructive road that made GW1 a D-list title for its entire run?

Any second now somebody is going to come in screaming SIX MILLION PLAYERS, and to that I say, it took them eight years to get that playerbase, GW2 gained more than half that in nine months. And GW1 was released when there was a lot less competition in the MMO market than there is now. It’s about time people admit it was a niche title that didn’t appeal to most people, and justifiably so. Such a build system as it had is rife with problems unaddressable except by limiting the build system.

This post is so full of misinformation and biasing that I care not disect it and continue a pointless conversation.
Especially considering my idea is not based off GW1 or even suggesting to go back to the GW1 skill style. (Although it would be a kitten ton better than the dribble we have now).

Biasing? Even bias wouldn’t be applicable in this situation but biasing, what exactly am I biasing against? Make your own point, don’t rely on buzz words, but if you must, use one that is applicable and use it correctly.

You’re suggestion is that we be able to switch every skill on our bar correct? That was one of the major problems with GW1 and many other games similar to it. You cannot have a build system which allows for 100% build variance and an expanding skill pool, it doesn’t work, it hasn’t ever worked, it never will work. MTG proved this a decade before GW1 was even a twinkle in the design teams eye. You have to limit either the build system or not expand the skill pool. In an MMO, where progression is very important to a lot of the playerbase, never expanding the skill pool was likely never an option, hence the limits on building.

And this is why you are not a game developer.

Thats not what I am suggesting to address.

My idea is to add more to making builds around weapons. Not for additional weapon skills for weapon slot.
That wouldnt address what I am trying to do.

Weapon Utility skills, allow for players to make builds around a certain weapon and play style at the sacrifice of dual weapon.

In GW1, a Warrior for example, could make builds for hammer only, or Sword only, ect.
Or the Warrior could simply make a Melee build with general melee attacks. But I notice skills like those have weapon requirements. Hammer skills required Hammer, same with Swords, and Melee attacks were general, but required a melee weapon.

I would like something like that for Utility.

For example, on my Guardian, I may like playing with my Hammer, but my Utility skills may not match what I am looking for in a Hammer melee fighter build, so I swap in some Hammer Guardian utility skills (these are not the same as the weapon skills. They are Utility skills with Hammer requirement to use). And now I have 8 total Hammer skills like old GW1, but with 1 Heal and 1 Elite skill to go with it. Also I can have my off weapon, for 5 more skills, but lose out on my Utility slots in which I put Hammer skills in.

You opened up a discussion thread and then slammed my idea because it’s not what you want, rather than discuss.
I am discussing.
I would hate to spec in to hammer utilities, swap mid fight to my staff and then have my hammer utilites sit idle while I used staff skills.

Perfect way to introduce New World Bosses

I don’t think the original bosses with the same mechanics should be kept around. The Shatterer and SB are ridiculous right now – just stand in one place and spam 1. They both need to be upgraded and made less boring.

Isn’t that exactly what 90% of the people in the zerg fighting Tequatl do?

You can debate the difficulty of this encounter now people have learned how to do it, but I seriously doubt you can defeat tequatl with a full Sparkfly Fen map at his feet if 90% of them just autoattack, even disregarding required positioning and jumping in order to stay alive. I have only done it with my ele since I feel I contribute the most with it, but with my other classes just standing and autoattacking would probably still be incredibly ineffective.

If you really do it this way you just leech off of the others who ARE trying to put a dent in that health bar.

To OP, while it would be a nice way to introduce some new world bosses, I think the new tequatl was a step in the right direction and I hope to see some more open world encounters like this, even in lower level zones if neccesary. I don’t see the use of locking them in an instance. What difference does it make if a newbie gets into trouble on a hard world event or if he gets into trouble in the optional superboss instance after a ridiculously simple hp-bag encounter? I would still wander in out of curiosity anyway, newbie or not.

I also agree with the notion of others that the autoattack spam fests like the Shadow Behemoth or Shatterer are an insult to what this game’s can produce in terms of mechanics, and should be made more challenging (not neccesarily to the level of revamped Tequatl, something like the new fire elemental is already better).

Why would you debate it when that’s exactly how the boss fight is?
The mass of people serve only as a pool of constantly renewable spamming minions,
you die? You res at a waypoint, or you stay there and get res’d by the living who outnumber the dead.
With enough guardians regeneration and people’s health, you can sit there all hitting 1 while the 6 people on turrets are the only ones impacting survivability.
When there is a zerg there is no difficulty, and you arguing that teq was an improvement because it’s not a big zergfest like other bosses is totally inaccurate, because that is precisely what it is, for the majority.

Or they can just nerf the new tequatil so that the open world content is there for everyone who wants to participate in it and doesn’t require specialized guilds and VOIP.

Voice comms and specialized guilds aren’t needed to beat Teq. Once you know who needs to be where, any large group of people can do it via map chat.

I like killing Teq, so I did join TTS because my server doesn’t do it very often. However, I’ve ended up in unorganized overflows several times and still seen it accomplished.

I don’t think the original bosses with the same mechanics should be kept around. The Shatterer and SB are ridiculous right now – just stand in one place and spam 1. They both need to be upgraded and made less boring.

I do think when they make changes for future bosses, they need to make the first phase easier. I know it can be demoralizing for new people trying it out to fail without even passing the first part.

Isn’t that exactly what 90% of the people in the zerg fighting Tequatl do?

What happened to the manifesto?

Bagel.4598

I guess my biggest problem is the huge deviation from what worked in Guild Wars 1. End game, BiS gear was easily aquired, after that it was all just prestige skins. The game was fun enough that people put in lots of time for those prestige items, but because they had no stat difference they were in no way required. Your reward for getting them was having them. The manifesto led many of us to believe that that philosophy was going to be continued in Guild Wars 2, and it hasn’t.

If you didn’t invest years playing GW1, and if that wasn’t one of the things that really stood out about it for you, then it probably doesn’t have the same impact.

What happened to the manifesto?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bagel.4598

Bagel.4598

People are taking the word need and using it in a sense of being physical unable to play the content.
This is not the point that people are trying to convey.
What was said in the manifesto was that by level 80 everyone should have the maximum statistical gear, which for the longest time were exotics.
Now, if exotics were the same grind as ascended is now, people would be in an uproar.
Because it was implemented afterwards people seem to think that just because we’ve gotten by with exotics, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be striving to have the BiS gear still.

Your arguments of “well you don’t need ascended equipment” can be backed up by saying sure, you’re right but you don’t need exotics, and you don’t need rares either.
This whole game could even be played through on green items, or even blue, white!
Could. Why aren’t we, those lower tiers are cheaper? Well because we all want to be the best we can be, regardless of how large the stat increase, it’s a stat increase and we want it.
The point is ascended is a stat increase, like exotics, but has a ridiculous acquisition method.
Had ascended been in the game since launch with an ease of acquisition only slightly harder than exotics there wouldn’t be this debate.
The problem is not it’s existence so much as it’s acquisition and it’s timing of introduction.
And that is where I think Anet has done wrong.

Yes this game does force you to acquire ascended gear to participate in Fractals.

I’ll just step in and point out a word that’s being thrown around, in my opinion, a bit too freely:

‘Forced’.

Nobody is ‘forcing’ you to do anything. You’re not ‘forced’ to run Fractals if you don’t want to. You’re not ‘forced’ to hunt for Ascended gear if you feel the effort isn’t worth the reward.

You may want Ascended gear; if you do, you’ll have to run Fractals to get it. That may seem an annoyance, but you are not, at any point, forced to run Fractals — or do anything at all — if you feel that it’s not worth your time.

First of all this is not about being forced to do Fractals FOR ascended gear, this is about being forced to have ascended gear to get higher in to Fractals.
We could all get literal and dissect each others posts in this thread until the cows come home, or we could understand what is meant when someone is using a word in context.
If I want to play an area of the game for a specific reward that I desire and to do that I have to acquire a certain item or items, it becomes a requirement for me to get it.
It’s not a you can get ascended and do a level 49 Fractal and do better, or you can stick entirely with exotics and still do it with less effect.
At level 49, I have to have some sort of ascended item(s) to get the agony resistance needed to physically live.
Hence to play that difficulty and area of the game I am being forced to get ascended gear.
Which is against their own words of “By level 80 everyone should have the highest spec’d gear possible”.
Either implying
A) Everyone should have every piece of Ascended equipment (which is ridiculous expectaion, or
B) Ok we kittened up and put a bit of a vertical stat grind in here that you are actually going to need if you want to progress in your horizontal aesthetic grind of Fractal weapon skins.

It’s the same as the PvP community who rightfully complained that they couldn’t acquire Legendary skins through PvE alone, they are forced to do PvE if they want that exclusive content, and lo behold a update of PvP is on the horizon to fix this issue.
Why? Because it’s not right and Anet are aware of that.
