Ok… so here it is. DAoC started to die upon EA buying out DAoC, and releasing that absolutely terrible ToA expansion

EA didn’t buy out Mythic until 2006. ToA was released 2003.

Warhammer was bad, so everyone came back to DAoC, then WoW came out, it was pve, so most didn’t like that either, and came back.

Warhammer came out in 2008. WoW was launched 2004.

Yeah. Got it backwards. Same thing though, just switch the names around, lol.

Runeblade you really seems to an issue with Anvil Rock. You seems to know a lot about us, do you play with us? Because to say such thing, you have to be with us right?

I have no issues. I made an observation analyzing by the scoreboard and using my first hand experiences, and then suddenly Fergy and Anvil people get defensive and speaks, “Do you have an issue with us?”. I have no issue with both of them.

My server steamrolled both of them combined, they pose no challenge against us. I quit WvW because they bored me to death. It shows that WvW is nothing more but a running simulation and whack a mole.

If you really want to regain your pride, tell your server to get better a WvW. If either server beat Darkhaven, my opinion will change.

Should prolly remind ya…. The first day, on Ferg we were rolling both ur servers at the same time till u guys made both orbs instantly disappear at the same time… Then finally started winning from 150 stats and 15% health to ur entire server. Get over urself man. On equal ground, we owned u even with ur larger numbers.

Yeah… So I actually played DAoC for many yrs… and both ur stories r right, just in different ways, lol.
Ok… so here it is. DAoC started to die upon EA buying out DAoC, and releasing that absolutely terrible ToA expansion… ‘but’ they left 3 ‘classic’ servers. On the classic servers, it was the original game without the ToA expansion. These 3 servers easily made up 10x (no exaggeration, honestly) of the entire DAoC gaming community, because ToA was horrible. When warhammer came out, people were already looking for a new game, because there was talk of taking out the classic servers, bacause EA wanted to be ‘right.’ Warhammer was bad, so everyone came back to DAoC, then WoW came out, it was pve, so most didn’t like that either, and came back. About 3 weeks after the release of WoW, EA finally decided they would mix all the servers in to 1 server, and they did, and even though classic had 10x the population… they made the 1 and only server a ToA one, and the game died completely.

The original core mechanics of DAoC, are all that matters. They were the good parts… but it doesn’t matter, cuz this is GW2, it’s a little different, and different things will prolly workj better. Long story short…. we need pvp type char progression of sort to make us wanna stay and have something to look forward to. The DAoC RR idea, is a good starting point.

Just realized my OP is really long, lol. Here is the important part without the long reasoning.

Anyway… now for a solution that’ll make everyone happy.
Make it so the orbs only affect the borderland that it’s kept in. Why? because 50 stats to all players in a server is still a big buff, and worth fighting for. Also… it makes it so if you own 2, you don’t just automatically win everything. Your server actually needs to tactically consider holding all areas to win (the way it should be) On top of all that, it will make the Eternal Battlegrounds a place worth fighting over, if you own no orbs, EB would now be the tactical place to attack. A server can still win without EB, so it’s not necessary, yet it creates challenge. Not to mention… there’s allot of us that only enjoy fighting on equal ground (and don’t reply with sPvP, there’s no siege, randomness and fun there, so it’s not the same, most my guild’s quit the game already cuz the orbs r so OP its lame as hell).
So, all n all, that makes the people who need an advantage happy, still maintains the importance of orbs attack/defense. But without making it absolute insanity, and game breakingly no fun.

I know what you’re saying Tzash, but RA’s arn’t game breaking advantages. They’re just little things like…. +3% to crit dmg :/ +40 power… etc… Little things that take a long time to get.

Yes… it’s complete madness that +150 to every single stat, to every single player on an entire server could exist. Almost forgot… to their npcs as well.
At first, I really didn’t think they were that big of a deal, reason being, my server isn’t very good at getting the jump on the orbs, so we’re always losing. I honestly assumed it was cuz we were just bad on my server. That being said… This week, at the beginning, all 3 sides had an orb. Skill wise, we were owning both the other servers at the same time, literally. Not gonna say the servers, not here to call people out, but after a little while of us destroying both them at the same time on equal ground… One server decides to ‘ninja’ both the other orbs at the same time (lets just say it didn’t look legit in any way, lol). As soon as their server got the +150 bonus to all stats… Game changed, and these scrubs turned around, and have owned the whole map all week.

The insanity, has literally gotten tot he point where most don’t even log on. I actually have barely logged on in the past 2 weeks due to the orbs. Last week, we owned all 3 orbs, and it was such a slaughter of us owning the map, it wasn’t even fun anymore. Then this week…. they’re honestly so established, we can’t hold a single supply for more than 2 minutes, let alone do anything else.

Now… I know what people are gonna come on here and say, so I’m gonna answer it before they’re even bothered. gonna say… “Well people shouldn’t give up, and that wouldn’t be as big an issue.” well… guess what? people r gonna give up weather anyone likes it or not, and they r, and have. ya can’t change that, so the reason making them log off has to change. Not to mention…. it’s boring as all hell once any server gets all 3 orbs.

You know what WvWvW needs? The ability to read an invader’s name. Make things personal!

I’d settle for being able to actually see the enemy invaders at the moment

In sPvP they already have kill spam and names. Couldn’t be that hard to add to WvW. Yeah… killin 4 people solo and having no one know about it is really lame

but yeah… on the main subject here… I don’t care if it’s DAoC’s system, or whatever it may be. but it ‘has’ to be something, and not gear. There needs to be some form of character progression that gives people reason to grow their character.

Also, wanted to point to correct what someone about said about RA system making it ‘kill’ based. It’s not, you’d get alot of points for healing, defending, attacking…. etc etc. And u couldnt mop up a buncha points from zerging either, because if u out numbered them and won, u got diminished returns on realm points. Vice Versa, if the out numbered side came out on top from skill/tactics, they’d get more.

If GW2 had a similiar system, I’d imagine you could get points for nearly anything, dropping siege… using supply… killing… healing, etc…

Please help with Guardian builds

I don’t know your play style, but long of the short is. If you’re not good at dodging attacks, moving, and staying alive. Play the Guardian. It’s easiest to stay alive, good support as well, decent dmg output depends on your spec and play style. Good class for standing in the open, soakin up dmg and removing conditions.. healing… etc.

Guardians might do less dmg, but you’ll stay alive long enough to actually do the dmg.
