HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

New players have a lot of restrictions we didn’t have. They have less character slots. They can’t buy whatever they want on the trading post. They can’t send money or items in the mail.
The game, the whole game, was on sale for $10 three times anyway. I played this game for 3 years and got 3 years worth of entertainment out of it. I experienced things new players never got to see. By logging in during the Living Story Season 2 I got that for free.
You’re not out money by getting in 3 years early. You’re far far ahead of new people just starting out.
I honestly don’t get these posts.
I finally decided to buy the game about a week before it went free to play. The logical options I had were to either buy the base game or pre-purchase the expansion for $30 more… ended up buying the expansion for $50 to try the game for the first time and it goes F2P a week later.. bad luck or I got screwed. Either way I feel like I was ripped off.
See, I’d planned to buy the game for my birthday seeing as it came out on my birthday 3 years ago and it’s been in my sights for a long time. Seeing I could pre-order HoT was a bonus. When it went f2p a couple of days after I’d bought it, I initially felt ticked off but thought ‘Well, I’d have bought the expansion anyway’. Plus for all the years of enjoyment I got out of the first game, I don’t mind giving ANet my money (within reason!). Even if I end up not enjoying GW2 as much as the first game. I can understand some misgivings if you didn’t enjoy/play the first game but seeing as the price of HoT has stayed the same, won’t be accessible to anyone who doesn’t own the expansion and the f2p accounts are limited in what they can do… There’s been a few f2pers who’ve joined my guild not long after myself and honestly, the complaints I hear about how restricted they are and how they’re intending to buy full copies of the game make me realise that I don’t have anything to be mad about. I feel the price I paid is fair for the content I’ve gotten and will be getting in a couple of weeks.

One thing I’m curious about OP is if you’ve tried to build up your guild with other players who are like-minded. You’re not the only person I’ve seen post complaining about guild drama/rep requirements/time requirements and the like, and as you say you’re not a casual player, it sounds as if you have time to develop a guild past just you and your wife. Not wanting to sound rude, but it sounds as if you have a very insular life in game if it’s just the two of you. I’ve met many married couples over the years and although they might do the majority of content together, they’ve still been happy to group up with and talk to other people in a guild.
You said that you’ve tried making your own LFGs and they don’t get filled… I started the game about 5 weeks ago and decided last week that I was finally going to get my Daily fractal done; a daily I’d always avoided because I didn’t want to run with pugs and be yelled at for my lack of experience. So, after I sat watching LFG for about 30 minutes seeing meta group after meta group form up and one party disintergrate before my eyes, I advertised in LFG. Ended up with a party of 3 guildies and 2 pugs, the pugs being the more experienced out of us. And you know what? No one got mad, we were faced with what I was told were the most difficult/annoying fractals and we had a great laugh. No one asked about what gear, what builds, what specs… We laughed at each other’s kitten-ups and congratulated each other when we finished. I realised that while yes, there are kittenheads out there who will curse you out for deviating slightly from what they see as the correct path, a lot of people are more patient than you realise. It’s all about attitude.
Thing is, Guild Wars is a multiplayer game. Heroes turned GW1 into more of a solo playing game but quite honestly, I know only a handful of people who could complete DoA/Underworld HM with heroes and certainly not without cons up the jacksie. To experience all the content at its fullest, you needed to party up at some point. I love doing my own thing in PvE but I recognise that sometimes you’re going to need to get together with others to do the content. That’s why I’ve stuck with my NA-based guild from GW1 – they’re people who I know and trust not to be kittenwipes if I don’t understand something right away or need to learn something. Most of them have played from launch if not soon after, and the members who I hadn’t met prior to GW2 have fitted into the guild’s way of life just fine.
I realise guilds have drama (people = drama!), but that’s controlled by you as a guild leader. Kick people you don’t like, keep the ones you do. Much like a more interactive friend list.
The only problem I’m seeing is that you’re stubbornly refusing to listen to any constructive criticism in this thread and simply making excuses when people are giving you sound ideas for how to improve your game experience. The thing is, the game doesn’t revolve around one person. It could be that this is no longer the ‘right’ game for you if you have as many issues as you say you do. Games evolve over time, nothing stays static.

I am actually glad that Anet took over. I have dealt with Ncsoft in the past and to say that I was less than pleased with them would be an understatement. Basically, everything that Anet does right Ncsoft does wrong.
They have a history of not listening to thier community and they have now gotten to the point where thier #1 concern is getting people to spend as much money as possible in the cash shop. It has actually gotten to the point that they have events every week and every one is aimed at luring people to the cash shop to spend money.
Every other aspect of the game is almost completely ignored.
And Nexon bought shares in them a couple of years ago which further explains the p2w direction (coughMaplestorycough). I was very worried that the gem store in this game would take on a Nexon vibe.

A proper scythe for Necro would be interesting but would create a new weapon.
I’ve got to admit, a scythe would fit a Necro much better for Reaper. Part of me wonders if they’ll re-appear with Elona in the future…

I’d like a return of the ‘district’ select from a box system from the first game if everyone’s on the same server now.

I have to admit I’ve never heard an American say ‘Cent-arr’ (last syllable sounding like a pirate and being elongated), it’s just a quibble because it’s said so often, tends to grate because of the frequency and breaks my immersion. No, I don’t care about colour not being spelt with a ‘u’ -rolls eyes-. I understand what Americanisms are, I can mostly accept them but this one irritates because of the reasons I mentioned (reasons other people have voiced in other threads). The voice acting for the most part I don’t mind and I was surprised to see who did the voice for human females when I IMDBed it. Wondered why the voice sounded so familiar. I find if I imagine my character as having wandered in off South Park, it makes the pronunciation a bit easier on my ears.
It’s cool though, I’m sure there’s a lot of Americans who don’t care for how Sylvari pronounce things in their British accents. I’ve found no irritations with my Ranger’s voice acting so…
As for actually changing voices, I would think a pitch slider wouldn’t be too difficult to add. I’d imagine it’d be easier to apply to new characters though but that would be true for any voice changes. I’m not familiar with GW2’s coding so I can only speculate on that one.
female human voice is something I admire, some lines have so much enthusiasm compared to other races/gender. “Save yourselves!!” “Retreat!!” “Agh! I will destroy you all!”, etc.
Heh, the other night my Necro yelled out ‘Oh, it’s ON!’ and my boyfriend looked at me worriedly for a second. It’s what I usually yell before a tickle fight with the same vigor

I had frequent crashes when I started playing about a month ago as I had Win 7 x32-bit (didn’t realise my boyfriend had installed it instead of x64). It was really frustrating me until I realised what the issue was and reinstalled Windows.

I’d just be happy if my female human Necro would say ‘centaur’ correctly. Very disappointed when I found out who the voice actress was as well.

I actually find it easier to tell complete from incomplete with this latest change. The incomplete is mostly dark, the complete is mostly gold. Maybe a simple colour change from very dark green to black would help for contrast for those with colour vision problems?

I’ve actually taken to carrying Packets of Salt around with me to mail to people who keep banging on about the oh-so ebil f2pers ruining everything and how they’ll destroy the game. Most of the time this sort of rubbish starts up in chat, it’s because the person doing the complaining couldn’t be bothered to explain something, screwed up themselves or simply has no patience. I started playing a couple of days before the f2pers and you know, I’d have been one of them myself had I not had the money to buy the game (which was a birthday present to myself as I share it with the game). That’s another reason I find this so abhorrent, other than the blatant scapegoating. As other people have said, you’re going to get kittens playing this game whether they pay or not, as can be seen in oh, I don’t know, practically every gaming community ever. All I can say is those bashing f2pers are the real problem.

It has been part of the game since GW1 – it is just one more option for people to choose to use if they do so.
Exactly this. Not to mention people would still offer the services for free if they felt like it. I used to run EotN tours for free but people would tip me regardless. I didn’t ask for it, usually I was running my alt or guildies/allies, but would happily advertise any free spots in Local chat.
Since playing GW2, I’ve seen a lot of people offering free portals to JPs. If you don’t want to pay/charge, don’t. There will always be some people who will offer services for free if you can’t manage. Might take a bit longer but I agree that charging for some services is another way of making money and fair play to those who do it. Beats people standing around in LA begging for free stuff.

Quite honestly, as soon as I heard the reward was 5 blooms a time and how many were required for each item in a 2 day event, I thought ‘Yeah no, I’ll just carry on with map completion.’
