Same’s happening for me as well from the UK. I don’t really want to buy anything in another currency because even though the conversion rate might be in my favour, additional taxes and crap wouldn’t be IF they applied, which I can’t even tell from this. I’ll be incredibly annoyed if I miss out on any of these sale offers because of this bug.

A Selfish Request from a Roleplayer

Since you’re at it, how about a new chat for roleplayers. Maybe a /rp so people do not have to turn off their emotes. I sadly block any one spamming emotes and that includes people who enjoy role-playing. It’s quite annoying and I’m sure most are great people, it’s just one of those things.

It’s a shame that last time I remember that being discussed, a couple of vocal EU RPers and Gaile herself told us all to simply change our chat settings so we don’t see emotes when we’re in cities. Even though the suggestion explained how such a thing would help with RPer integration and the RP community itself.

Granted the discussion was 4 months ago (you can read it here if you missed it or you’re curious), but it ultimately went nowhere despite most people seemingly being in favour of it. By the end of the thread I think we’d all pretty much given any hope for RPers to be further integrated or for non-RPers to filter out their chat. But hey, we tried with sensible, logical and reasoned arguments for the proposal at least!

As for sittable chairs, I’d like em for in the guild hall at least as would others. Some of us like to make our own little corners of the hall personal and I know a few people have said that it’d be nice if we could actually sit at the tables and on the chairs given how bloody expensive some of them are to craft! Charrs and Norn sitting on Asura sized chairs may look weird but it’s also entertaining. Heck, off the top of my head I’m thinking of RP scenarios where that in itself could feature.

[NA][PvX][All Timezones] RIOT is Recruiting!

in Looking for...

Posted by: Bellatrixa.3546

Bellatrixa.3546

After a post-Wintersday hangover from all those drinks, our doors are open again!

Righteous Idiots Order Tacos [RIOT] has been around since 2005 and has players in multiple games including GW1. We’re a PvX focused guild that teaches PvE content as well as playing for fun (and profit!). We have a good number of people who PvP too so there’s a good chance of getting a partner during league seasons. In terms of WvW, we have people on various servers but quite a lot of us are based on Dragonbrand and are looking to expand into WvW activity as well.

Most of our players are in NA itself but we’re looking to increase our activity in other timezones with a healthy number of EU members already. The more of you guys we have, the more we can schedule events in other timezones as we have more people to host them for! Members are always encouraged to lead groups themselves as well or to ask others to help them form groups. Pro-active members are our favourite kind of members as they give back to the guild as well as helping themselves! At the moment we have the most activity in the EST timezone and our current weekly schedule reflects that, and although we want more players in certain timezones, we’ll still let you join no matter where you are as we have people from all over the world.

We run weekly HoT hero point trains with raffles every Saturday at reset, which we advertise in game. You’re more than welcome to bring alts, friends, assist with portals on a Mesmer/Chrono, or just chill out with us on TS.

As a guild, we have cleared all raid wings multiple times and own all gold raid statues but Xera in our Lv 69 fully upgraded guild hall (Gilded Hollow).

We use TS3 and although speaking isn’t mandatory, we require presence on TS for raids. Listening in on missions, especially if it’s your first time doing them as we explain what to do over voice comms, is incredibly useful and also you get a heads up on when we’re about to hold a raffle! From time to time we also hold guild karaoke nights on TS! Guild meetings are weekly with missions an hour after reset (Tuesday) with lotteries. We don’t require that you sign up to our site and forums, but often information is posted there as reminders/announcements as well as guides to help out our players. If you want to raid with us, we do ask you to read a single post on the forums which explains how we conduct raids, how we will help you and what we expect from you. Due to the number of people who want to join our raid runs, we do have a sign up sheet system but you do not need an account on anything other than GW2 in order to use it.

Our current GW2 member base is ~375+ but I know from experience that we will fill up quickly post roster clean. We have no rep requirements other than when you’re doing content with us, you rep us. We understand that different guilds cater to different aspects of the game so we have no issues with you being in multiple guilds.

We strive to remain as drama free as possible but we don’t heavily police guild chat. We’re unofficially an 18+ guild for the most part and as such, we expect people not to get offended by the odd swear or mature topics. The only stipulation we have is ’don’t be a kitten’ (actual felines are fine though) which has worked pretty well for the last decade and all our officers are approachable about any issues or questions you might have. Our Code of Conduct may look and sound long-winded, but the majority of it is common sense with a few things like inactivity period set down in words for easy reference for all.

What we look for in members:

  • Active
  • Friendly
  • Willing to learn/be patient with those learning
  • Able to listen
  • Respectful of others
  • Any level of experience
  • Sense of humour

We are also looking for people who would like to lead content as pro-activity is highly encouraged to supplement what we already host as a guild. We value and reward those who are willing to contribute to guild activities as they are one of the reasons we have lasted as a community for so long.

If you would like more information, please visit our website where you can find details on our raid requirements, guides and more! Alternatively you can either comment on this thread, PM me or contact one of the following accounts in game:

I only took months to figure out because the “journey” was absurd and barring any logic. You had to find in extremly small spots in a specific order and throw the rock in yellow glowing lava (I looked it up, its about 1160°C hot). While finding a rock in a skrit stache which contained a ring still made somewhat sense, at the lava part it stops. We throw the tiny rock into the vulcano and it magically comes out cleaner than before instead of getting damaged further (1160°C is high enough to melt silver and gold, some for some gemstones).

I take it you’re also angry about the fact that we as characters can hop in and out of the same lava and not insta-die? There’s a whole slew of things in game that don’t make scientific sense. Because it’s a video game, not real life. I feel that needs to be emphasised here.

I see you don’t grasp the concept of supply and demand……

Not at all. It’s more pointing out that recipes like that are in no way prestigious and still require Mystic Coins. Those trays of pies come in quite handy on a weekly basis for my guild during guild rushes. It tickles me that single recipe is more expensive than more useful recipes for feasts. If I had the Mystic Coins to spare, I’d be more than happy to stick up a recipe myself for half the price and see how long it takes to sell. Sadly I need them for Mystic weapons and the like. Again, the coins used in creating those recipes could and imo should be substituted for something else.

Oxi the raven is awesome but I’ve resigned myself to that being a goal over a couple of Halloweens: lack of DR in lab now makes it more of a reality than it was a couple of days ago. My Norn Reaper with Nevermore would really look awesome with that. I’ve a soft spot for the new Feline Familiar, especially after bathing my cat last night and her resembling it. Although my cat doesn’t tolerate anything being put on her head; tried in the past with an inflatable unicorn horn and that didn’t go down well…

Before this year’s additions, I had my eye on Gwynefyredd but she’s going to have to take a backseat now. I have Zuzu but I’m not too keen on the obese cat look that so many feline minis have going on.

+1 to bringing back the Black Moa chick as well! I loved that scavenger hunt in GW1 for it (Nevermore journey was highly reminiscent of it) and taking a Black Moa pet to the guy outside the Sunspear Great Hall always gave me a chuckle.

Can we just go to the Underworld next year instead? Make the bosses raid difficulty and I’d love to see the Four Horseman again (plus Dhuum would be hilariously fun now without something like Pain Inverter). Give us something to really scream about; Halloween has seriously lost its darkness since GW1 which makes me sad as it’s been my favourite GW festival for 6 years :/ HoT distracted me last year on my first GW2 Halloween but this year when I’m ready to get into it, I’m just left ‘eh’ about it. As others have stated, DR is a mess in the lab too which causes me to want to participate even less in the festival which is severely lacking in permanent festival quests. I’d be ok with less festivals per year if they were at least on par with GW1’s.

Also if you read the trivia on the GW1 Wiki page, the ears were actually requested by ANet staff, not players and you can go complain to John Stumme for listening and making them.

Something MUST be done about the RP in DR

Bellatrixa.3546

Byou the same notion, role players shouldn’t have to stop role playing just because it’s not 5o your taste either. Neither should they be put in a separate box.

My agreement the RP channel suggestion wasn’t to segregate by putting RPers in a separate box but actually to integrate by giving RPers a dedicated place for what they’re doing which could:
1) let new players to the game who are RPers see that RPing is supported, welcomed and active and encourage them to partake
2) not confuse non-RPing new players who have all chat options active by default who could think that emotes are just for roleplayers (the suggestions that people turn off emotes are essentially saying that their use is only for RPers)
3) facilitate with reporting trolls more easily seeing as you can’t report emotes as you can any other chat option (a lot of people don’t have the time and/or can’t be bothered to run around DR looking for the culprits given the range of emotes and size of the city, plus they could be moving around anyway)
4) help CS recognise when people are trolling RPers by the trolling taking place directly in the RP channel
5) have the more limited range that Donari was on about like Say chat already does so’s not to interfere with other RPers
6) actually encourage current/future non-RPers to get into RPing by seeing that it’s another facet of the game’s community other than the LFG section

I know plenty of people in my guild who like to use emotes when we’re standing around waiting to start content. While sure, people can re-organise their chat tabs/options, I feel an actual channel for RPing would help tackle some of the issues with RPers being accepted as part of the player base.

Or ANet could offer everyone with terrace passes an exchange for another pass, but that would simply be a temporary band-aid.

If I’m RPing a stealthy roguish meeting at an ice cream cart in the Pavilion I don’t want to have to weave my lines through those of someone doing a murder investigation in Rurikton or a Charr tourist grumbling about the foolishness of the menagerie.

Isn’t that what happens now in emotes which have a larger range than Say? It’s read that way to me at times which actually turns me off the RPing more than the walls of text. Even if you do want to follow what RPers are doing while standing at the terrace, you have random people emoting on top of people trying to RP as well as people’s stories all being mixed up. At least from my own personal observations.

Something MUST be done about the RP in DR

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bellatrixa.3546

Bellatrixa.3546

I was never bothered by the content, just that I couldn’t read any /guild or /map chat due to the volumes of text spewing from a small fraction of the RPers.

This is the issue for me over what I see being said. I appreciate Penelope clarifying that not all RPers are inappropriate with what they say but boy, on NA we have some doozies who are; including some who don’t actually become explicit, but are… discomforting without being graphic. On my years on the internet, I have come across people who are serious about some incredibly explicit/inappropriate roleplaying and some who will do it in public, not just to troll. Whether the people I’ve seen doing it in NA DR are trolling or not is not for me to judge and the only people who will truly know are those people. Such is the nature of RPing, as I’m sure a lot of people are aware.

I’ve played my fair share of D&D over the years so honestly, I have no issue with roleplaying. Just having to change my chat options (which due to personal health reasons I can’t always remember to change back immediately) because of walls of text that are currently not supported properly by the game which interfere with what I and others are doing. The walls of text are where I think the ‘spam’ definition has some weight.

No one’s honestly saying RPers should gtho of DR (well, some people might really feel that way), just that we’d like ANet to give RPers proper integration into the game so they’re not so heavily ostracised or seen as a nuisance. The RP section being added to LFG was a great start but I think everyone can agree that there’s more that could and should be done for everyone to co-exist more harmoniously.

As for RP chat range, maybe that could be the same radius as Say chat? Also if people trolled RP chat, it’d be easier for GMs to understand the context of a report as it would be clear it was targeted harassment towards a group of players as they’d have to be typing in RP chat to do so, instead of trying to claim that they’re responding to someone else in the channels we have now. I don’t know, I don’t get why a channel dedicated to RP would be a bad thing as in my eyes it would actually give RPing more legitimacy than the current form of co-opting emotes with large walls of text, and could by extension clear up a lot of issues that people have with RPers.

I’ve got no issue with roleplayers but I do agree that the emote walls of text in DR when I’m using my terrace pass do my head in. I like emotes (especially in WvW when they can be used to show that you’re non-hostile when on an opposing team) and it bugs me to have to turn them on and off because of the spam in one map. I understand people RPing in cities because that’s often part of the RP, but I agree a separate chat channel would be the best option and also make non-RPers less hostile towards those who RP.

Freedom, which a lot are using to argue about. Individuals have their freedom to choose what guilds to join, the people that runs those guilds have their freedom to decide their expectations for their guilds. Did those guilds take away their freedom to choose? Nope, the people who join decided that is best for them. Just because they (the guilds) are different from the so-called mainstream, do they deserved to be bullied? And yes, those who keep calling out others for not confining to certain way of doing things is really no different from school’s bullies and not only that, behaving in a way thinking it is heroic and right to do so, it is disgusting.

I’m someone who has repeatedly voiced their dislike of 100% rep guilds but I’ll re-iterate what I said:

As for this 100% rep thing, I’ve never been a fan of it. People should rep a guild because they want to, not because they feel forced to. However, that argument’s been done to death many times and my opinion is you can do what you like with your guild and if people don’t like 100% repping, they can join one of the many guilds out there with no rep requirements who understand that niche guilds exist and aren’t some great evil to be competitive with.

In the light of this particular suggestion, I wanted to voice my opinion that it would be a retrograde move, as others have stated, after rep no longer became rewarding and that requiring 100% rep isn’t the only way to build loyalty – the word ‘loyalty’ being first said by OP. Given that rep is no longer linked to upgrading/running a guild, I find it hard to fathom that ANet would want to go back on that and essentially take us back to stricter/more prevalent rep requirements, let alone give people less incentive to do missions because they could simply max out favour by demanding that a certain percentage of their roster repped instead of them doing activities together as a guild to reward favour. Yes, you could be doing stuff with your guild and earning the favour by doing content together, but you could equally do those thing with pugs or solo for the same reward. The smaller the guild, the harder it would hit them, and they already have guild mission member requirements as an obstacle.

For the noun denoting a person who plays the flute, Americans usually use flutist. In varieties of English from outside North America, flautist is more common. The web-searchable Canadian-English sample size is too small to be useful, but both words are used to some degree by Canadian writers.

Flutist, from the French flûtiste, is by far the older word in English, and it is not American in origin. The OED lists an example from 1603, though the word remained rare in any form until the early 18th century. It was the preferred form in all varieties of English until the late 19th century, when flautist, which came to English from the Italian flautista early that century, was fully adopted in British English.

I don’t know where the heck ‘floutist’ (Google gives me nothing at all) came from but it sounds like someone who repeatedly flouts rules, not plays the flute. It’s always been ‘flautist’ to me, but I’m a British woodwind instrumentalist so… -shrugs-

Hm, I think this would actually disincentivise some guilds from doing missions. 1 commendation isn’t much, but 50 favour per member? So, a guild has a 6k favour cap, 120 members repping for a week as per the plans would max out the favour from 0 to 6k. Let’s say that a 400+ member guild already has 3k favour from previously doing guild missions: that would take us to 60 members repping in a week to maintain 6k favour.

I don’t know about other guilds, but I know mine will pop missions on request for members if they can’t make our weekly mission slot and has a poll up currently asking when members would like the second slot should they miss the first or are unable to make the current time.

I certainly don’t believe that everyone should feel compelled to be ‘loyal’ because they get something out of it. This coming from someone who reps one guild 99% of the time.

If you’re having problems with guild members being loyal, talk to them, talk to other guild leaders/officers. Just don’t call for something to be introduced that would damage the way most people run their guilds because of a handful of ‘super’ guilds who demand 100% rep or gtfo.

I’ve lost count of how much I’ve donated to my guild, however I’ve been with them for 5 years, led the GW1 guild for a while and am co-leader in GW2 so… I actually enjoy building up the guild hall so I donate what I can afford. Put both my Legendaries on hold to do some of it, but it really wasn’t a huge deal as I can easily farm more. Quite honestly we have about 5-6 people who consistently help out with guild upgrades and a lot of members chip in small amounts for various decorations they’d like to see (even if it’s just the world boss trophies, it’s something). Quite honestly any donations are welcomed so give as much as you personally feel comfortable with.

Quite honestly that only really applies to pug raid groups. Most guilds that teach raids are the absolute opposite in my experience and from what I’ve heard from others. You’ve said raids don’t interest you though so I doubt you’d want to join a guild that teaches them though it’s worth pointing out that not all guilds that teach raids specialise in them. As for the speed aspect, that’s all down to the enrage timers for the most part which isn’t the fault of players but ANet for putting them in. I doubt many pug groups are trying to go for speed/record runs.

I don’t know if this works in GW2 but in GW1 I found the simple solution to the problem was to make up a name for my build.

In that game the skills you chose were the main aspect of your build and groups would often ask you to share your skill bar in chat so they could decide whether they thought it looked good or not.

Honestly 9 times out of 10 the people making the call had no real idea what they were doing. If I told them I made the build up myself, I’ve used it in this dungeon/mission/whatever many times before and it works they’d kick me. If I told them I can’t remember what site I got it from but it’s called [whatever I felt like calling it at the time] (‘DOT + Profession name’ was a common form, or AoE + profession name) they’d accept it, no questions asked.

(Or if they were particularly observant I’d have to explain one detail, like I had a fiery bow string to go with Mark of Rodgort or yes, Dervishes do have AoE skills.)

Heh, I used to be in a speed clearing alliance and I remember we used to get people from time to time who would run a metabuild and not actually know how it worked. Was a more prevalent problem with pugs and drilled it into me not to attempt high-end content with random people. In the alliance we didn’t mind teaching people, it was more of an issue when someone would grab a build off PvX, claim they knew what they were doing and then kitten up. There’s no shame in admitting you’re new to content and these days there are plenty of Youtube videos and the like to help you understand what you’re meant to be doing before you get into things in game. When you’re not honest or lie, that’s when the problems start.

Interestingly enough, GW1 also taught me that public metabuilds aren’t the be all and end all; a lot of speed clearing guilds would use builds that weren’t public meta and get better results – a couple of guildies and I tinkered with MTSC builds to include more professions and subbed an EMo for a monk which helped when people wanted to get a feel for EMo before going into an elite area. However said players running those guild/alliance specific builds were often those who weren’t experiencing content for the first time. I remember one of my guilds starting to teach Domain of Anguish speed clear and having a set up which I think was based on LoD’s builds at the time, different to PvXWiki’s advertised meta, but we had great teachers who would talk us through how to use the builds as we went through the areas and these were specified as teaching runs. Likewise other guilds had specific team set ups for other areas like Urgoz and Underworld. Heck, I even did a 17 minute FoW with mesmer spikers which was extremely fun and a break from the HB/VoS+MoP meta.

Metabuilds are what the general populace will expect you to run, guilds and groups may have their own variations which could be ‘safer’ or faster than meta and may or may not depend on the experience of individual players and party composition. It pays to be familiar with the meta if you decide to pug or start out in an organised group as a starting point at the very least. Raids are still relatively new and I imagine in the next couple of years the meta options will expand further with new stats/elite specs coming out. While there will always be optimal builds, the number of viable builds will increase.

Personally I don’t see someone asking for metabuilds to be snobby or elitist. If you want to run non-meta form your own groups. I see threads most weeks from people saying they don’t want to run metabuilds so like-minded people are out there! You just might have a longer wait in forming a group. The worst thing you could do is join a group running meta builds, run your own thing and kitten everyone off in the process – that just hurts those who run metabuilds as well as those who don’t want to and increases the animosity between both sides. Those who do AP/LI checks are more elitist in my eyes (but hey, to each their own) and as a result I don’t join those groups, just as I didn’t in GW1 when people would ask for UW stones (which could be bought in any case) or specific title ranks. Saves my time and theirs.

tl;dr if you want to run non-meta, learn the meta first so you can safely deviate from it or make your own groups. If you want to learn in a non-hostile environment, join a guild that teaches. We have 5 guild slots after all

That’s probably the main reason why I can’t believe most raiders when they say they want a “challenge”. Most of them just want the exclusive loot after the thought-work has been done for them.

For me it’s the challenge of doing more than hitting 1 until something dies as you can do in most content. Probably why I’ve enjoyed getting into WvW and higher tier fractals. Even if you know what happens in a raid encounter, there’s always things that can go wrong and higher stakes if they do.

A couple of guildies and I discussed this when the skin released. I’d like my GW1 style of holding back, please. It was one of my favourite dagger skins then and a large reason why I bought the skin the other week. Also I’d like to point out in Battle Royale, Mitsuko holds one the way we’re asking for it to be changed to so there are examples out there of it.

Please stop nerfing PVE!

Bellatrixa.3546

Hello everyone,

I’d just like to say that PVE has been getting constantly nerfed. When the game first launched, we could actually enjoy mildly difficult PVE content, whether it was the world bosses, the dungeons or the fracatls. But now? Everything is EASY!!! Fire Elemental is one of the most killed World Bosses and now it literally takes 20 seconds to kill!

It sounds to me what you’re complaining about is PvE skills/traits being buffed while the enemies aren’t. You’ve said you raid so I’m going to infer from that you know about elite specs and the new HoT stats. More players with those are obviously going to make old enemies much easier to kill. That’s why FE goes down in 5 seconds, not because of nerfs. Check out the Shatterer for a boss that’s been revamped since HoT and you’ll see he takes far longer to kill now than before. I’d like to see all Central Tyria world bosses updated to fit better with the new stats/traits/skills, but I’d rather have new content first.

Please Remove Daily/Monthly AP Cap

Quite honestly I doubt most players (in game, not on the forums) are aware about the AP Leaderboard, let alone care about it. I’d like to see the question about cap removal put to a poll, like the Destiny’s Edge 2.0 names were. It’s pretty obvious no one’s going to catch up to the top names. Imo if you care enough about being on there, then you’ll care enough to do the dailies for that 10 AP.

I also agree that permanent AP needs to be more rewarding; some of the amounts for HoT/LS3 are ridiculously low for the time and effort involved. If the cap is going to stay as it is, then this really needs to be looked at. No matter what happens, I can’t see anyone catching up to the players on the leaderboard if they’re still active and earning the new AP the rest of us have access to. If someone’s quit the game since who’s on the leaderboard, do they deserve to be on there?

Just to clarify, I have no dog in this fight as I’m a long way off the cap but having thought about it in the past, my motivation to do dailies for AP has already diminished knowing I’ll be capped eventually on top of there being loads of retired AP that I missed out on before I started playing. The ‘people catching up’ argument holds 0 water for me.

is there ever a reason why you would want to vendor ascended stuff though? maybe that should be removed from even showing up on the vendor list completely

I think the only reason people would NPC ascended would be in the case of plain ascended ring drops in fractals as they’re not profitable to salvage. Although you can always attune them and then salvage for better returns, it’s not an option for players without HoT. Not 100% on that after the changes to fractal vendors though, but that’s how it was before the last batch of fractal changes; you needed the relevant fractal mastery to purchase agonised essences.

Personal stories or self-content(single player) is ANTI MMO, don’t do that please, and stop with raid, it is just co-op not MMO

Focus on the core game, wich is a MMO, not a single player game, don’t forget this please

Ok so the personal story which is part of the core game is Schrödinger’s MMO? If raids are co-op, then so are fractals and dungeons as most people do these in groups (albeit half the size of raid squads). Which are core game. You also mention WoW in a positive light which has more raids than we do. Is your definition of ‘core game’ just running around Central Tyria and doing World Bosses/Orr metas/SW? I honestly don’t understand what it is you’re saying the game should be.

Also, Legendary collections require you to do various fractals, most people class those as group content. Doing WvW for a Gift of Battle involves playing with other people, even if you’re solo roaming.

Are they still obtainable from the Black Lion Chests? My understanding was they were removed in the April 19th patch and replaced by the claim tickets. I haven’t had one since that patch and they used to be pretty common (for me anyway).

The rewards within the Black Lion Chest have been refreshed.
Instant Repair Canisters have been removed.
Boxes o’ Fun have been removed.
Mystery Tonics that aren’t endless have been removed.
Increased the amount of Revive Orbs awarded to 2.
Rare stand-alone miniatures have been removed and replaced with a new Black Lion Miniature Claim Ticket containing new miniatures to choose from.
The current exclusive dye packs have been swapped out for Winter Chimes, the Toxic Dye Kit, the Metallurgic Dye Kit, Taimi’s Dye Kit, and the Mad King Dye Kit.
All common individual combat boosters have been combined into a single Enchanted Combat Boost that allows players to choose their combat boost.
Drop rates of Black Lion Claim Ticket Scraps have been slightly increased.
The Endless Repair Canister item has been added as a very rare reward.
Zodiac, Chaos, and Balthazar weapon skins have been added as very rare rewards.

But yeah I agree it’d be nice if those minis were tradeable. My Norn Necro looks awesome with the raven mini and mail carrier alongside Nevermore.

Sayeh al'Rajihd and the Largos during HoT?

in Lore

Posted by: Bellatrixa.3546

Bellatrixa.3546

Largos we did meet were there for more personal reasons (owing a favor to Trehearne or basically being bored and looking for a challenging thing to kill) I suspect it will still be a while before we see Largos in any great numbers.

I don’t think we ever found out what the favour Trahearne did was outside of some vague details, did we? Unless there was stuff that I’m not seeing on Sayeh’s wiki page. Given that the Largos seem to value honouring their debts, I was curious from the first time I played the PS about what had transpired for a Largos to be indebted to a Sylvari.

Leading on from that… I think my only gripe about LS3’s story so far is that we've not really had much happen surrounding what happened with Trahearne at the end of HoT, outside of Almorra's dialogue in Research in Rata Novus, which simply states that the Marshal spot's vacant. I was totally expecting to be off to The Grove as well as Hoelbrek but it would have been repetitive to have two such similar scenarios so close together. I understand he wasn't a fan favourite but there's been pretty much zero reaction which seems incredibly... strange and disproportionate given what happened during the PS. Then again, I have to keep reminding myself that this is still just the first part of LS3 and that there's a lot of information we could still get from Caithe now our characters aren't as angry at her. I'm discounting Canach as he seems more focused on what's happening with the Shining Blade. Given their history with the Mantle, I can see this resulting in him getting even greater redemption arc and the SB becoming more prominent in the story. I'm waiting on this with baited breath given there's a lot of lore tied to them which was integral to GW1 such as the Scepter of Orr's whereabouts and Livia's aiding of Gadd in Sparkfly Swamp (now Fen ofc) with bloodstone research there. I'm honestly surprised we've not seen any White Mantle in Sparkfly up to this point but again, there's plenty yet to happen.
(Chucked in a spoiler as it’s not the Lore subforum)

Sorry, this became much more generally lore speculative than I intended as I’ve spent quite a bit of time lately chatting about lore with my guild who mostly haven’t played GW1 that much… Back on topic!

Part of me’s hoping for a chance to see the Largos to tell them about Trahearne’s fate in the Ring of Fire or on our journey there. They like challenging enemies and the White Mantle are certainly a cut above the mobs in the areas we’ve seen them thus far. However the realistic part of me says that it’ll be the Deep Sea Dragon before they’re really remembered or interacted with again :/

I do agree with Tachenon that there was a bit of a lost opportunity with that underwater area in TD though I wonder how much of that was due to lack of time over lack of thought. Although those saying we weren’t near the water or in too inhabited areas forget that we’ve encountered them in Brisban Wildlands which is landlocked unless there’s a small underwater tunnel leading from Kessex Hills that we don’t have access to which is entirely possible I guess given the location of that particular event. However, it does show that they’re willing to come that far into the societies of the rest of Tyria if a hunt leads them there so their turning up in HoT would only have lacked motivation for me, seeing as Sayeh paid her debt to Trahearne.

A few players have noticed that new items can be obtained in the Mystic Forge since last week’s update. We added a number of new items to the possible rewards for combining rare weapons in the mystic forge, including Bloodbound weapons, Aetherized weapons, Shadow of the Mad King weapons, and some orphaned skins from Living World season 1.

This was a part of a bigger update to the mystic forge which wasn’t quite ready for this patch, so we pulled most of the changes as well as the release notes. However, since this change did go into the build, I wanted to let everyone know about it.

Taken from this 4 month old thread

Have to say I thought this was coming in the last QoL update but I guess bugs are still being ironed out? -shrugs- I’m hoping said Mystic Forge update hasn’t been forgotten and includes mass forging/taking items from your bank instead of just inventory.

You remind me of the people in GW1 who complained when they introduced tokens so you could obtain past festival hats. Maybe you were one of them. I know I wasn’t because other people wearing something I have doesn’t bother me, particularly when I’ve had it for a couple of years already.

While new content and skins are nice, it’s also nice to have staples that’re accessible. Last year when I started, HoT dropping at the same time as one of my favourite GW festivals was overwhelming and I had no idea what to prioritise first. I loved the Mad King lore so if the content’s going to make it into this year’s Halloween, I’ll be over the moon (pun not intended).

So after just buying the Bloodstone Fen Portal Scroll, I realised that even with all possible shared inventory slots, I’m starting to run short on space. I get that ANet want to make money out of Terrace/Airship/Folly passes so there’s two possible options to my issue that I’d like to see added:

1. Portal Device Compendium – Basically a bag within a bag that can store all portal scrolls and devices. Teleport to Friend could also go in here; mine just sit in my bank and rot for the most part. Home city portal scrolls, Bloodstone Fen Scroll, Twisted Watchwork Portal Devices and Hall of Monuments stones could go in here as well. I would pay ~1k gems for the compendium if it was a permanent inventory upgrade for additional space. Could also be a quest reward for collecting certain existing teleportation devices (preferable).

2. New portal locations added to the Asura gate on the terrace (and in the other pass areas) that will take us to Bloodstone Fen/Hall of Monuments and return us to where we were on leaving. When new portal scroll/stone locations become available, they get added to the gates.

Why not roll the game back to day one and see how many would not complain then.

That’s not even comparable given that any company that went 4 years without making a single database backup would be incompetent beyond all belief. In this case there was a backup made not only within 24 hours of the downtime, but 2 hours from what I’ve been hearing. Many more people would have logged in that 4 year period and created accounts than in the window of yesterday.

Some of you seem to be ignorant (willfully or otherwise) of how rarely this sort of thing happens to ANet and that their games have always had amazing uptime compared to others who need to take servers offline for updates/maintenance on a regular basis instead of a simple restart like we experience here.

I’m not white knighting here but this is one area that you really can’t attack ANet on. They made a mistake? They’re human, just like you. There was complete and utter transparency and the game was up again the same day. Sure it sucks that you lost play time, we all did. But unless you’ve never made a single mistake in your life, there’s really no legitimate position to attack them here. And if you’ve never made a single mistake in your life, you best be handing yourself into a museum as an example of complete and utter perfection.

Don’t worry, I’m sure the raiders and all the people screaming for ‘harder challenging content’ will bankroll the game. Right?

I’m one that does -shrugs- In my case because I started with GW1 in 2010 and want to support ANet as and when I want to rather than being tied to a set subscription every month which would make me feel obliged to spend more time on the game to get my money’s worth.

Thing is, I don’t think the salt about raids would have been so great had other stuff been coming out at the same time for those not interested in them. I can understand that people felt they weren’t being catered towards but please let’s not act like this is the first time ever that ANet has attempted more difficult content for players: there was a Hard Mode in GW1 and that didn’t drive people away from the game. Nor did the elite areas like UW/DoA/FoW/Urgoz/Deep.
Raids have their issues and the implementation came in a period of time where not a whole lot else was going on, so people got mad and/or left as a result which I can understand. The April patch helped cure some of the damage and it seems the recent update has helped some more. I highly doubt the game will close as a result or that GW3 will start development soon as someone else claimed, that’s just scaremongering and exaggeration. Tbh though I think that the people who dropped the ball on Legendaries should be the first to go should there be redundancies but that’s just my opinion.

There was a time, long long ago, when you could use the bottom portion of a costume with your own helmet, or use the helm of a costume with your own armor…

Standing around waiting for something to spawn is not what I would call “things to do”.

Why stand around when you can gather from nodes in the map while you wait? Or talk to your guild? I guess TT waits have made me somewhat immune to being bored while waiting for an event. I can usually find ways to keep myself occupied. Part of me wonders if why the spawn times are headed in this direction is because they want us to pace ourselves.

As excited as I was to see there were new events, I figured it’d be a ballache to try and do them on the same night as the patch when there were likely to be new builds for bug fixes/server crashes, on top of my guild having missions on a Tuesday night (well from 2am-4am Weds morning for me). By the time we were done, I went and grabbed the detector, waited for the Wyvern for a while but sleep took over. Given we still have the original events up, I felt I didn’t have to rush to get these done in one night.

Gold selling out of hand again?

many of those gold seller use name made only of letter example: xyzcvbbbnnn could you not put a character name needs to have some kind of real name when creating them not just some chaotic letter or number. just doing that would remove a lot of this. since those seams to be generated by a program. since when you block one you receive another you block again you receive another one. seams to be a spam program that send spam and modify is name when it is block to spam it self again under another name. it is very often chaotic letter account. the problem is that each time you block one, another name is created with another set of letter and it spam the message again.

so even if it remove the immediate one another one is sent then another then another.

there must be a way to spot those or to put a filter for name that are not a name.

While I can see where you’re coming from, I’m reminded of a legitimate player who was in a GW1 guild who liked to name his characters things like Asdf Of Zxcv (you can check that IGN on the Hall of Monuments calculator as it happens!) because he couldn’t think of a name at the time and liked the novelty of gibberish names. I knew a few people who named storage/PvP characters that way, and I’m pretty sure I saw someone say on these forums a day or two ago that they deliberately give some of their characters short gibberish names so they’re less visible in PvP, which makes perfect sense to me. Lore-influenced Asuran names could also run into problems with such a system given the unusual letter combinations, likewise those who add extra letters to existing names that’re already taken. That’s before you settle on what actually constitutes a ‘name’, because a lot of people have different ideas (and languages which could look like gold seller/bot names to someone non-English speaking).

When I hear stripped down I think of other MMOs with F2P versions that are more like trials with limit access to classes with gold and level caps. And that’s on top of similar chat restrictions.

“Sripped down” is yet another example of forum hyperbole in an attempt to bolster a position that isn’t defendable from the get go.

When you hear it. Doesn’t mean that was the meaning designated by the person who said it or that other people interpret it in the same manner.

stripped-down
adjective
reduced to essentials.

Now, what other than those two words did you object to in my posts? Because right now it seems like you’re trying to argue about nothing based on one phrase that you’ve decided to give a more exaggerated personal meaning.
Also please bear in mind that you took on a f2p account as an already established and experienced player of GW2; your items and gold might not have been transferable to EU but your knowledge was. You already knew how to make those restrictions not matter as much. Newer players (using my boyfriend and f2pers that’ve been recruited to my guild) don’t have that advantage and in my personal observational experience have run into quite a few of the walls that don’t bother you as an already knowledgeable player. The TP restrictions are what seem to catch a lot of people but again, I understand why they’re there.

Considering expansions are generally required to stay current and progress in a game, just compare what HoT gives you that f2p doesn’t. The gap between f2p and core isn’t huge in terms of content (I’d say the restrictions affect how you go about things more than content itself), but when you factor in that HoT is required to progress the story to now, I’d say that part of the game is most certainly ‘stripped down’, whether you like it or not (using my definition, not your hyperbolic one). It’s like being able to read the first few pages of a book on Amazon before you buy it, which is perfectly fine in my eyes.

There’s not so many/harsh restrictions that it’d put most people off playing f2p, but the hand of ANet is firmly encouraging you to pay if you want to do more than just the basics, which is a good thing.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to pick a fight over other than personal definitions of a phrase; I’m pro f2p and I feel it’s been implemented fairly but whatever gets you through the day I guess -shrugs-

I think perhaps a lot of the salt mainly comes from people who’ve already bought the core game and think that the F2Pers are getting a free meal that they had to pay for in the past, even if the free meal they’re getting is just bread and some soup. That and/or there’s some regular ol’ classism going on here. XP

Regarding the first point, I think it’s true to some degree. The common assumption is that the core game is entirely free now which isn’t strictly true. A heavily stripped down and restricted version of the core game is free. Most people on having this explained generally tend to calm down. F2P came out not long after I’d pre-ordered HoT and started playing. Initially I felt a bit ticked off until I saw what f2p accounts would actually be able to do, realised that I’d have bought the full game anyway and got on with playing.

I don’t know if I’d call it classism exactly, but I get what you mean. Some people just like to look down on others who they feel are ‘lesser’ than them because it makes them feel better about themselves. It just bugs me when people try to claim that certain things are caused by f2pers when they have no actual way of doing what they’re accused of (no offence). Or when people assume that because someone was a bit of an idiot that they’re instantly a f2per.

I think free users can’t even glide.

Correct. Gliding is a HoT mastery so you need HoT to do it.

My boyfriend’s never really been into MMOs and it was actually the introduction of f2p that got him to try the game out. 2 days later he was in love and I bought him HoT. As someone who doesn’t have a whole lot of money to toss around, I appreciated the fact that he could get a feel of the game and form an opinion before I blew cash on it. Given ANet not exactly liking people sharing accounts (and all the details would have been in his name), I didn’t want to risk buying it, him not liking it and then me either getting banned for taking on the account he ended up not wanting or being out of pocket.

There’s a lot of salt about f2pers but they usually seem to be accused of doing things that they’re not actually able to do due to account restrictions. Says to me the problem’s not with f2p but something else…

And I bet they’ll now complain they’re bored with nothing to do

You’d probably be better off posting this in the Bug subforum otherwise people will just discuss the update in general. Those responsible for fixing bugs are unlikely to look in this section or at a thread of this title. Not trying to be mean, just trying to help.

and china isnt a race

No, it’s a country. However Han Chinese is a race and 92% of China’s population; what I would imagine most people think of when they hear someone described as Chinese. I think it’s possibly time to drop that part of the discussion though so’s not to prevent derailing the thread or something being said that will get it locked ¬_¬

But yeah I agree with Seera’s point that a filter would just be bypassed by them as -shock horror- they’ll have access to it and immediately find a work-around. At least with the ads being blatant and the punishment for RMTing being well advertised, if you fall for the bait you get what you deserve with no excuses. Also it’s much less punishing on the eyes than having leetspeak spammed in chat to bypass a filter…
