The WvW section of this forum is listed under PvP. So having a pvp type progression is a great idea. Making it a pve type of progression is bogus.
Ranks should be account wide. Perks can be character based.

And I will admit, WvW tokens (or whatever they are called) maybe should be character bound, but the rank title should not IMHO.
If you’re a good warrior and you kill a ton of people, so many that you get a nice shiny (meaningless) title…then you switch to your ranger and completely suck at playing it, do you really think you’re worthy of displaying that nice, shiny (meaningless) title?

Yeah and that’s completely stupid that you can do that (of course “dungeon master” is kind of an embarrassing title to begin with).
And I can hop into PvP on a profession I’ve never played and still be the same PvP rank.
WvW skill is more so based on WvW knowledge, not which profession you have.

On a personal note, I don’t mean to sound as if I’m attacking you, or just whining for the sake of whining.
I do honestly love alts and the ability to re roll when the need arises, and I a lot of mechanics seem to just make it harder and harder to be able to do this (dungeon story mode and fractals being two others). I do appreciate your feedback, thank you.

Badges are account bound too. Why shouldn’t my thief get exp and karma for pve events that are done on my necro?
XP and karma have always been soulbound. Titles never have. Don’t argue just for the sake of it. The only comparable currency that you could argue from, would be traits. Traits are soulbound for customization. But even with that comparison on your side, I still don’t agree with wvw ranks and wvw points being character bound (if they even are) for reasons already stated.
At a minimal, ranks should be account, and wvw tokens soulbound. Which it very well may be.

No, I would prefer that while you play in WvW, all characters have the same rank and just make the points account bound. So no matter what toon I’m on, all the points are stored so any other toon can use them.
Based on the picture we have seen however it is not possible to refund spent points. Which would bring forth the issue I stated in my post.
Unless you can get max rank in all abilities you would most likely want to have different abilities on different characters.

It’s the WvW version of ascended gear. Might not make a huge difference, but every little bit helps.
Also, IIRC devs said they have more perks planned, but aren’t putting them in initially to see how things go. Personally it would be great if they add:
+ power while attacking invader keeps/towers/supply
+ vitality while defending your keep
stuff like that would be nice.

Well, that’s a valid question…
The thread is about ranks. So the answer to his question is that they already do this for PvE AND PvP. That’s why it was not well thought out.
And if his necro runs a dungeon, then yes his thief gets the rewards. Gold, loot drops, tokens, achievement points…all account bound.

Not all characters are used for the same things after all, so they will most likely be upgraded in different ways.

If it is, why? It seems like more alt hate.
I leveled alts so they could be utilized as needed for WvW situations. So if I play more WvW across more professions vs someone who plays less WvW on one profession, that person could still have a higher ranking and more perks.

Thanks guys this is helpful. Sounds like I won’t be using the mystic forge. I’ve already got toon slots, bank slots, cultural armor, almost level 80s of all professions, and my guild doesn’t need anything cause its huge.
A legendary for my main is my next goal and ive been trying to hold out for the scavenger hunt, but I have done everything else and it’s still not ready (nor does it seem even close to coming out).

Just take the 700g and invest it into the TP… of course there is risk and you may need to get another account or two but if you have that amount to invest the sky is the limit for return.
I suck at TP and pretty much refuse to spend my time doing it. It is not even close to fun, nor a tolerable way for me to spend my gaming time. Thank you though for you feed back
People that work the TP shouldn’t be the only ones that can get a legendary either.

When you transfer servers you lose all WvW bonuses until the next reset. If it has reset since you transferred and you are still not getting bonuses then it’s a bug.

The client has always periodically crashed for me. But recently I’ve started commanding in WvW and my game is crashing every several minutes. It’s pretty much impossible to command or play WvW now.
Is the extra stress from WvW causing my computer to crash the game, or is it the client. I play on a 2011 27" iMac with 12 gigs of ram.

You seem to think you jest, but I’ve been seeing this lately and I think it’s a boost. The more general principle applies also to having your own siege available. Yes, it’s ridiculously expensive at times. However, if you’re serious about winning, making sure that everyone in your zerg has a food buff up is an extra advantage.
Yes, this seemed like a good idea and easy to implement. I’m definitely planning on always doing this from now on.

Wow! All of this feedback is great. Thank you. I will definitely check out the TC forums and get on our server mumble. I recently joined a large WvW guild and will start learning from them as much as possible. I’ll also check out that book.

So planning ahead for success and keeping the zerg in a concentrated and focused formation is extremely important and a more common downfall of new/bad commanders.
Basically, learning how to properly utilize and lead a zerg is what I’m hearing you say.
Within that mindset, what is the proper way to take a keep or defend a keep with a zerg?
My initial assumptions: Taking a keep 1) get zerg to ball up on commander 2) Take a supply camp and fill up on supply 3) get to keep 4) take out oil/canons/aoe the walls. 5) if safe, drop rams > hammer in > cap.
Defending a keep 1) set up siege inside to defend against attackers (AC, ballistas, cata for gate if needed) 2) Have some folks run supply to keep repairs up if able 3) Portal bomb your zerg behind enemy lines to take them out. (I have to admit I’m really more clueless about successfully defending a keep against a large group of invaders.)

A good commander is able to take in information from a load of sources (voice com, team chat, whisper) and process it quickly.
A good commander understand that they can’t help everyone screaming in map chat for help and makes strategic decisions (based on morale, viable targets, etc) without apology.

Warriors are to prone to getting the sniffles, which quickly escalate into tuberculosis ending in certain death situations. All of them should come pre equipped with a vaccine IMO.

After 8 months of PvE, I am now starting to focus on WvW and I want to know what makes a commander good?
I want to become a good commander, but I refuse to display commander status until I’m ready to successfully lead a group.
From the non commanders, what types of commanders do you love and you would follow?
From good commanders, what is your goal when you go to WvW, how do you prioritize objectives, do you focus on unguarded objectives, or do you go after what is most heavily contested? How much do you rely on mumble/ts3 to give orders? Do you have rely a lot on having scouts keep you informed?
From commanders, what is your tactical background, do you study/read up on real life war tactics, have any military background. Is understanding warfare tactics just as important as understanding game mechanics? I have no formal military training, so I feel this is currently my weakness.

I’m currently leveling my Ranger in PvE. Would be nice to know if there are any good FotM builds for Rangers. I’ve hear that pets dont have AR and are useless in FotM, I hope this isn’t the case.

This is typical of new players, and warriors in general IMO. Most ppl that play warrior just want to charge in and hit stuff. Warriors can do that and are one of the hardest hitters in the game. But Warriors are not naturally defensive, so you have to learn to dodge, heal, move, and swap between ranged and melee as needed. With all of the classes, it’s not so much about being able to absorb damage, it’s more about not getting hit at all, or mitigating it.
If you like charging in and being able to take a beating, then I’d suggest the guardian.

I have all professions. Thief is super fun in wvw, stealthing makes it so easy to troll invaders and take objectives. Guardian bc it is loved by everyone. Parties will love you and you can carry folks without getting downed. They also have great DMG. Good front liners.

Else’s have more versatility because of the four attunements. Mesmers are sought after more for group play because of Time Warp spike DMG and portal.
I love my level 80 Mesmer. I like clones and all of the utility skills.
Else are more dangerous in wvw fights, mesmers are better for wvw tactical play.
Mesmers are awesome if you like jumping puzzles. I usually take my Mesmer to the wvw JP. You have portal to get ppl up, and your focus to pull foes down. It’s a ton of fun.

I hope you guys are able to complete it. Many haven’t. This event is bugged. Most of the time it will never trigger, and when it does, half of the players get gold medal and chest, but no achievement. Check the ‘dynamic events’ section of this forum. I’ve been trying to get this achievement for a long time.

No, there’s a good reason they don’t reset at the same time everything else does, people could grab double rewards if they were to do a puzzle at midnight.
This is dumb, who cares if people grab double rewards, they are still limited to once every 24hrs. I agree with OP.
Everyone already grabs double rewards. I do my daily, farm CoF, FotM, meta event chests right before server resets, then I do them again once it does reset! Everyone does, JP’s shouldn’t be any different.

The current living story contains very little content to DO imo. We are in part 2 of 4. It should be picking up at the end of March.
Currently for finishing you get some achievement points. Most living stories have had a titled attached to it as well, but seeing as we are only in part 2 of 4 that might not come for another 2 months.

I love my guardian. I run a lot of dungeons, and guardian will hands down be preferred. Better durability and ability to carry a team through. Also good damage with hammer or GS.
I don’t have an ele, but my friends that do say they are a lot of fun.

War and Guardian were my first two I maxed to 80 and are both still ‘main’ toons I play all the time.
Guardian has great defensive team support, durability and melee damage. Lacks solid range dmg.
Warrior has superior damage both melee and ranged. Good offensive team support, but lacks the survivability that the Guardian has.
Because I have both, I play both and consider them equal, but situational. War can pwn through PvE, while a Guardian can carry a small team through PvE.
My Guardian is specced glass canon and does solid dmg while maintaining durability. Warrior must be specced at least 50/50 offensive defensive and still will get downed more often then Guardian.

Elementalist all the way.
I have alts of every profession. Our play styles are different, but it’s pretty obvious that ele is for you.
Ele has strong range and can melee with dagger/dagger build. You also have water attunement for group support at all times. Also great DPS. Ele is great in WvW, PvE, PvP and dungeons.
Mesmer is also a good option, but if you go Mesmer it will be all about spamming clones and shattering them (which is fine, I love playing my mes more than ele). Mesmer also has elite skill Time Warp which is great for dungeons, and portal which is great for WvW.
